See Sharon Van Etten perform live in a radio station…

Sharon Van Etten is my favorite artist right now. I love her so much. She’s a great songwriter and one of the best live performers. Her newest album, “Are We There” is really amazing stuff.

Watch her live performance in the video below. I’d recommend you check out the video. This woman will blow your mind.

I’m dying to see her perform live myself. Her singing voice is so good and I love how she plays different instruments other than guitar. She plays weird and unique instruments we’ve never seen before.

This woman knows what passion and heart is all about when it comes to music. Love her music to death.

New Tom Petty album is out today and it’s recommended listening…

I’ve been a lifelong fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. They’ve always been an incredible band and they still are. Tom Petty have always been my favorite. Tom Petty’s new album, “Hypnotic Eye” just came out today and it’s recommended listening.

You can hear the whole album here:

http://www.npr.org/2014/07/20/331348483/first-listen-tom-petty-the-heartbreakers-hypnotic-eye

This album is Tom’s best in a long time. It’s a pretty tight album. Every song. This album is better than Tom’s previous album, “Mojo” even though that one is real good too. Tom and the boys still got it. They never disappoint like usual. “Hypnotic Eye” is a pretty strong album and one of the best of this year.

I’m gonna get my own copy pretty soon. Probably next week.

Top Ten Bands/Artists I used to love but not anymore…

People go through this all the time when supporting bands in the major label industry. They used to like a band/artist before but not anymore. Fans stop supporting them ’cause of their new direction in music and other reasons. They were not as good as they once were. I am like that too and yes, there are bands and artists in the major label industry that I used to love but stopped liking them.

Here is a top ten in no particular order, enjoy the list, y’all…

  • U2 – I used to fuckin’ love U2. They used to be my favorite band. I used to love all of their music in the 80’s and early 90’s. I still love earlier U2 but their newer stuff is not that great. I think I stopped liking them after their “Zooropa” album. They used to be a great band but I lost my respect to Bono and the boys. “The Joshua Tree”, “Unforgettable Fire”, and “Achtung Baby” will always be my favorite albums of all time, though.
  • Guns N’ Roses – Like most, I was a huge fan of their 80’s stuff when they had all the original members. That was back when GN’R was great. “Appetite For Destruction” and “Use Your Illusion I and II” will always be classic albums, though. “Chinese Democracy” was a huge pile of shit.
  • Alice In Chains – I was only a huge fan of Alice In Chains only when Layne was in the band, of course. I’m not that crazy about their new singer. I still think the band shouldn’t have continued.
  • The Smashing Pumpkins – I don’t know what happened to Billy. He used to be a genius when James Iha and D’arcy was in the band but I don’t really like the band anymore with all the new members and stuff.
  • Sheryl Crow – Used to be a huge fan, she was a genius in her earlier days. Her first couple of records were amazing stuff but her recent stuff? Nah. Don’t really care for the direction she’s going.
  • Jewel – Used to be a huge fan of Jewel Kilcher, the Alaskan folk singer. Her first couple of records were genius but she is also going different directions lately. I miss the old Jewel when she would write powerful and amazing songs. She used to be my huge crush back in the day too.
  • Kid Rock – I liked him better back in his metal and rap days. His music was genius but not how he’s gone all country and southern rock, I can’t stand it. I think I lost my respect for him after he ripped off “Werewolves of London” and “Sweet Home Alabama”.
  • Stone Temple Pilots – Not sure if I’m gonna like this band anymore if they’re gonna treat Scott Weiland like shit and having that Linkin Park guy be the singer. No thank you. For that reason, I lost all respect to STP. Shame. They were a major part of my childhood. I grew up listening to them.
  • The Dave Matthews Band – I used to love DMB but I can’t stand them anymore. Their music is overrated. The guys in the band are talented musicians but Dave is just a shitty singer and songwriter.
  • KISS – I was only a fan of Kiss when Ace Frehley was in the band. I never cared to listen to them with their other members. I’m glad that they finally made the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, though. That was long overdue.

I’m sure there’s more but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head.

Jimmy Page about to announce new album and tour???

Today, Jimmy Page just started hyping up his usual cryptic teasers. The legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist just posted this as his cover photo.

The photo below is Jimmy Page’s new logo:

He also added some new merch for his “Shop” section on his site, new mugs, t-shirts and other clothing:

http://www.jimmypage.com/shop

What is he up to? Is he about to announce a new solo album and tour? I’d say yes that’s what this is all about ’cause notice, he just posted his own logo and none of the other band members logo of Led Zeppelin so that’s a big hint that he’s going solo again.

I wonder what artists will he collaborate with this time??? I wouldn’t be surprised if he teams up with Jack White or Dave Grohl.

Weird Al brings back 80’s stop motion animation with “Lame Claim To Fame”…

So far, out of Al Yankovic’s 8 videos, I think this is his best one. Weird Al Yankovic brings back 80’s styled stop motion animation that is done pretty much in the style of Peter Gabriel videos. The new song, “Lame Claim To Fame” is great and the video is great.

What I loved the most of this video is that he gave Dr. Demento a shoutout. If you don’t know who Dr. Demento is, he is a legendary radio DJ who plays comedy music and novelty songs. Dr. Demento was responsible for launching Al Yankovic’s music career. If there was no Dr. Demento, there would have been no Al Yankovic. Dr. Demento was the one who discovered Weird Al and got him a record contract.

This is video no. 7. Final video will be tomorrow. I hope Al’s final video will be the polka medley on the album.

Metallica plays “St. Anger” live in concert for the first time in a long time…

As part of their Metallica by request thing, fans in Prague have requested the song, “St. Anger”, to be added to their set list by popular vote. Everyone knows that the critical reception for Metallica’s album, “St. Anger” wasn’t well received by fans. It was the band’s most hated album but apparently, Prague happens to love the album. Since not many people liked the album too much, Metallica stayed away from playing songs from that album at their concerts over the years. The band played songs from the album at their concerts when the album first came out, of course but that’s about it. Metallica by request is an opportunity for fans to choose obscure Metallica songs in their sets. “St. Anger” is one of those obscure songs.

Even if “St. Anger” had mostly negative reviews, I thought it was a great album. It was pretty tight and really heavy. It had James’s best rhythm playing in many years. I never saw what was wrong with the album. The band just wanted to do something different since they’ve been doing the speed metal thing for years.

Metallica haven’t played any “St. Anger” stuff on their shows in a long time but they still seem to do a good job. The audience seem to like it and the band themselves even seem to be enjoying playing “St. Anger” again.

In the opening of this video, I love Kirk’s response. He was pissed that “Ride The Lightning” didn’t make the set list but of course, he’s just having fun and joking around.

This was a great performance. I watched this whole video. Metallica kills it like they always do. They should keep playing songs off of “St. Anger”. It’s not a bad album as many made it out to be.

Tim McGraw getting aggressive with fans at concerts is nothing new… this guy is a douchebag…

This news is all over the internet. Tim McGraw, a country star who slapped a woman in the crowd while performing on stage. These things are nothing new with Tim McGraw. He’s been well known to fighting with fans for years. Youtube it. There are all kinds of videos of Tim McGraw fighting with fans at his concerts.

Of course, McGraw’s lawyer claimed that the treason he slapped the woman ’cause she grabbed his leg and wouldn’t let go ’cause he didn’t want his pants to rip apart, lol, seriously??? I watched the TMZ video and it’s hard to see whether the woman touched him or not so there’s really no proof on whether she did or not.

Tim McGraw is a douchebag. There’s a guy who don’t treat his fans well at all. He jerks himself off too much and he thinks he’s that important.

A lot of ladies have the hots for him and this is how he treats them? Shows he’s into music for the money and doesn’t care about the fans. Hitting a woman is never cool. He shouldn’t even have a career in music to begin with ’cause his music is garbage.

Iggy Azalea have pretty much won the internet, I think…

Thanks to Weird Al and Jimmy Fallon, Iggy Azalea is about to become a huge mainstream star. She could be bigger than Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Adele, etc. All week, I’ve been seeing facebook talking about her. Plus, I’ve been seeing a lot of facebook users listening to her on Spotify. I’m sure you’ve seen all that too. You can expect Iggy’s album, “The New Classic” to be a no. 1 record pretty soon here. It should be.

Iggy has become a hit on the internet ’cause she’s real good. I love her myself and I usually hate that kind of music. Weird isn’t it? Iggy is one of those artists you can listen to doesn’t matter the genre that you like. If you like metal and rock n’ roll, you would probably like Iggy. You don’t have to be into strictly rap/pop to like Iggy. Anybody who likes any genre can like her.

Iggy’s music is just a lot of fun and her songs are catchy. Plus her lyrics can be pretty deep and have a lot of meaning. I think she’s one of the best pop & rap artists to come out in a long time. I can’t stop listening to, “The New Classic”. It’s an addicting album. One of my favorite albums of this year.

I’m almost 100% positive that not a lot of people heard of Iggy until Weird Al is gonna parody one of her songs and then Jimmy Fallon covered her song on the Tonight Show. That’s pretty much how I heard of Iggy ’cause of Weird Al, I’ve never heard of her before then. I got curious, looked her up in youtube and started listening to her music and decided that I would like her stuff. As long as Weird Al likes her then she is probably good and she is. One of the things that Weird Al is good at when parodying artists is that he helps gives them more recognition. This is why he parodies a lot of artists ’cause it’s his way of supporting them and helping them.

I got the Deluxe Edition of Iggy’s album “The New Classic” when she put a few extra songs on it. It’s a good record and probably one of the best albums of this year. I really mean that too and I’m not into this kind of music that much.

My main genre of music is rock n’ roll and metal but I like a little bit everything else. Iggy rules and I would see her in concert if she ever came around here.

Yes, I think I changed my mind and will probably end up getting the new Weird Al album.

Honestly, I’m not too thrilled by the new Weird Al parodies, don’t think I’ll get the new album…

I meant what I said in the title of this post.

I realize that a lot of people are just discovering Weird Al since he’s creating a lot of internet buzz but Weird Al have been doing the parody thing for more than a few decades. He’s been doing it since the 80’s. Honestly, I love Al Yankovic’s earlier stuff more.

You should check out his stuff in the 80’s back when he had the curly hair, glasses and mustache. You should especially check out his first self-titled album. Also check out “Polka Party”, “Dare To Be Stupid” and “The UHF Soundtrack” which are his best albums, in my opinion. I also thought “Off the Deep End” was another one of his best albums.

I’ve been listening to Weird Al for years. Ever since I was a child. I remember the first Weird Al album I bought was his first self-titled album and it was on cassette tape.

I still like Weird Al, it’s just that his older stuff is better.

David Bowie hints at new music… new album on the way???

Prior to the release of David Bowie’s latest album, “The Next Day” which came out last year, Bowie forced us to wait for 20 years for that album to come out. There was a lot of speculation over the years that Bowie was done with music. Turns out that he wasn’t. The album “The Next Day” came out… it sold well and got great reviews from critics and fans.

Last Saturday, Bowie held a charity auction event in London and he sent fans a surprising message that he’s planning to release new music soon. So does this mean he’s planning to release another new album???

http://pitchfork.com/news/55917-david-bowie-says-new-music-coming-soon/

I’m glad Bowie is not done making music. He maybe done performing on the stage and touring but nothing’s stopping him from making new songs. It’s pretty obvious that he’s done performing live on the stage. I mean, when his latest album “The Next Day” came out… there were no shows announced for it. Bowie didn’t even perform any songs from that album on late night talk shows either so I guess he is done performing for good.

Ah well, at least he’s still making albums, though. Good for him. I’m a longtime Bowie fan. I’ve loved his music for years and still do. He’s a huge inspiration for my own songwriting as well.
