BREAKING NEWS: Regis Philbin to return as host in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”!!!

In celebration of the game show’s 10th Anniversary, the show is coming back for a limited run with Regis Philbin returning as host for 11 nights!

This was due to the fact that the Oscar award winning movie, “Slumdog Millionaire” inspired ABC to bring the show back for a little while. The show begins Aug. 9th of this year.

Great news! I’ll definitely tune in to watch this!

How much do you want to bet they’re going to try and get Dev Patel as contestant for this for a ratings boost?

BREAKING NEWS: SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE IS “BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR” AT THE OSCARS!!!!

As expected, I always knew that “Slumdog Millionaire” was going to be the big Oscar winner this year, ever since I first saw the movie in theater. It is well deserved. “Slumdog Millionaire” is such an amazing film, I loved it too much. I think the film is still playing in theaters now, so go see it if you haven’t yet.

Sean Penn ended up winning for “Best Actor”, poor Mickey. Even Sean himself seem dissapointed that Mickey wasn’t up there holding the award instead of him, ’cause Sean gave him a shout out at the end of his speech. Sean Penn deserves it though ’cause he is an amazing actor as well as he is an amazing director too. So I would say that Sean Penn getting the win for “Best Actor” is the shocker of the night.

Kate Winslet winning for “Best Actress” was no surprise to me, I never even seen “The Reader” or “Revolutionary Road” yet, but I’ll see them two movies when they come out on DVD.

A.R. Rahman winning for both music categories was also no surprise to me, I knew it was going to happen. He performed real good too. John Legend ended up singing, “Down to Earth” instead of Peter Gabriel.

Heath Ledger winning was great and seeing his family up there was special. Soon that golden statue will go to Matilda.

Penelope Cruz gets the shocking win for “Best Supporting Actress”, I was thinking the winner for that was going to be Viola Davis, but thought wrong.

Hugh Jackman did a great job hosting the Oscars, he was entertaining doing all them musicals as well. He can really sing, he can dance, he can perform well doing theatre, I was impressed.

The Oscars were very different this year. No John Travolta, no Joaquin Phoenix which is understandable. I’m sure those two guys were watching the Oscars on TV at home but I’m sure they couldn’t be there for other reasons.

I really liked this year’s Oscars, really good show, I think it’s one of the bests in a long time. The Oscars should keep this different format every year. Only thing I didn’t like was Queen Latifah singing over the, “In Memoriam” segments. I think that was the only thing that was pretty poorly done. Other than that, it was a good show. Seeing Eddie Murphy tributing Jerry Lewis was awesome. Great job Academy!!!

Cool Video: More on A.R. Rahman, videos of his live performances…

With the Oscars just around the corner, I’ve decided to do more research on A.R. Rahman to learn more about the guy and to hear this guy’s other music. This guy is cool, check him out. If you want to buy A.R. Rahman’s albums, you would probably find him in the “World Music” section in your local record store since he is from India. He’s an electronic and pop musician but still pretty cool. I’m sure A.R. will put on some great live performances at the Oscars this Sunday too. Watch and you’ll see why. Like what you see? Type up his name in youtube and you’ll come across all kinds of live footage from his concerts.

My final and last Oscar Predictions

Well this is it folks. The moment movie fans have been waiting for. The Oscars are this Sunday, Feb. 22nd. Yes, I will be watching.

Here are my final and last predictions. I know I did this once before but I want to do mine all over again. I will only do the top categories.

My Oscar predictions:

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler”

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight”

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Two way tie between Kate Winslet, “The Reader”, or Angelina Jolie, “The Changeling”. If I would pick one, it would probably end up being Kate Winslet.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler”

Best Animated Featured film: “Wall-E”, hands down.

Best Directing: Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Music (Score): Slumdog Millionaire

Music (Song): “Jai Ho” Slumdog Millionaire, this the song played at the end of “Slumdog Millionaire” where Dev Petel and Freida Pinto were dancing with a huge amount of people at a subway station while the credits were rolling. Sorry Peter Gabriel, but I think “Jai Ho” will be the big winner. I’m willing to bet you, Dev and Freida will do a live dance performance on stage at the Oscars for this song as well.

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire…this will hands down win “Best Picture” category no matter what happens. I haven’t seen all the movies nominated for “Best Picture”, Slumdog is the only one I’ve seen and I can easily see this film being the big Oscar winner. Slumdog Millionaire is such an incredible, amazing and phenonemal film that I don’t see how anyone can not like this movie. I will definitely be watching this on DVD a lot when it comes out. I still feel kind of bad for Dev Petel not getting nominated for “Best Actor” or Freida Pinto getting snubbed for “Best Actress”, those two were really great in this film and it’s the best acting I’ve seen in years. Not bad for two actors who has never had an acting role in their lives before. 🙂

Well there you have it, my final and last of the Oscar predictions.

Film Review: Slumdog Millionaire

Starring: Dev Patel, Freida Pinto

Directed by: Danny Boyle

So I did end up going to the mall this afternoon to see “Slumdog Millionaire” today, here is my review…

Plot/synopsis: Story revolves around an 18 year old orphaned Indian boy named, Jamal Malik, who is a contestant on the Indian version of the hit game show “Who Wants to Be Millionaire”. He is a popular contestant of the show because he is able to get every question exactly right. Right before he got the chance to answer the final question of the game, he has been arrested and taken into police custody, he is being accused of cheating.

To prove his innocence that he isn’t cheating, he had to explain his entire life story as a child to what he is now. He is able to answer every question right because those questions can relate to his life. Throughout the film shows flashbacks of his childhood as he tells the story of his life growing up. Each part of his life story has something to do with the questions in the game.

In the past, he has fallen in love with another orphaned Indian girl named Latika, where she and Jamal run into trouble by dangerous Indian gangsters. Those type of gangsters are the ones who kidnap children so they can train them to beg for money. Jamal’s brother Salim becomes part of the gang while Jamal is doing his best to survive and to save the love of his life, Latika.

Does Jamal get the final question right in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”? Do Jamal and Latika ever reunite? You’ll have to see the film for yourself and find out.

My thoughts on the film? Now I can totally see why it’s getting all the buzz. I FUCKING LOVED IT!!!! The film was absolutely amazing and a total masterpiece! It was one of the best foreign films I’ve seen in years! I don’t know why this film gets mixed reviews, I find it to be a perfect film. Acting was beautiful, the story was original and something different. It’s a pretty intense and unpredictable film.

Great acting by Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, which are also deserving of a “Best Leading Actor” and “Best Leading Actress” Oscar nod, which I feel those two were also snubbed of the Oscars.

I’ll take my Oscar winning predictions back and I’ll definitely say that “Slumdog Millionaire” will be the big winners this year. It’s definitely well deserving. I loved the film all the way through. I’m glad I finally got to see it.

Those who didn’t like it why? Didn’t understand what was going on? Didn’t like the whole love story thing? The film was fantastic. I’m definitely rooting this film to get “Best Picture” and “Best Director” win. I’ll definitely be buying this film on DVD too. Definitely one of the best films of 2008. Now that this film expanded to theaters everywhere ’cause of the Oscar nominees, I expect this movie to be no. 1 in the box office this weekend.

I thought the film was wonderful and a masterpiece, I’d definitely go see it again if I wanted. Please go see it, and you would immediately see why the film is getting so much hype.

Score for “Slumdog Millionaire” = **** (4 stars as in excellent)

Thought: I actually plan to see “Slumdog Millionaire” next…

I thought about seeing the film “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” in theater next week, but now that “Slumdog Millionaire” is playing at the theater in the Wilton Mall, I think I’m gonna see “Slumdog” next instead.

I know “Slumdog” is getting mixed reviews, it’s another one of them films you either love or hate. To be honest, I wasn’t that interested in “Slumdog” before, but now I’ve grown some curiosity into seeing it myself. I just want to see what is so special about the film.

I could wait for DVD true, but I kind of want to see “Slumdog” before the Oscars this year, so I can judge if it’s Best Picture worthy or not. So I’ll have to see it in theater. I plan to see “Slumdog” next weekend, not this weekend, but next weekend for sure.

I could either end up loving the film or I could hate it myself, never know. It is very strange how “The Dark Knight” was snubbed from the Best Pic category, when “Slumdog” got the nomination. “Slumdog” is a foreign film made by the UK, it belongs in the “Foreign Film” category.
