Film Review: “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”

Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Josh Holloway

Directed by Brad Bird:

Well today, I decided to hit the mall to see “MI: Ghost Protocol”. Here is my review…

Plot/synopsis: In the 4th installment of the Mission Impossible series, Ethan Hunt and his team are racing against time to track down a dangerous terrorist named Hendricks, who has gained access to Russian nuclear launch codes and is planning a strike on the United States. An attempt by the team to stop him at the Kremlin ends in a disaster, with an explosion causing severe destruction to the Kremlin and the IMF being implicated in the bombing, forcing the President to invoke Ghost Protocol, under which the IMF is disavowed, and will be offered no help or backup in any form. Undaunted, Ethan and his team chase Hendricks to Dubai, and from there to Mumbai, but several spectacular action sequences later, they might still be too late to stop a disaster.

After seeing this new movie, makes me want to re-watch the first three films. I thought “Ghost Protocol”, was a whole lot of fun. It is definitely the best one of the series, and it’s very rare that the later sequels get better than the earlier movies.

I thought the plot was pretty interesting, the story maybe a little predictable, but it kept you watching ’til the very end. Most importantly of all, I was most impressed with the action scenes and the direction style of, Brad Bird. Brad Bird is one talented and unique director. He’s pretty stylish. Brad filmed most of this movie with real stunts, and they filmed on real film locations. Yes, they actually filmed at the Kremlin and that sky tower building in Dubai where Tom did that crazy high flying stunt.

I thought the cast did a decent job on the acting, and Tom was enjoyable, like usual. Josh Holloway who played Sawyer from the show “Lost”, had a real small role, it was pretty much a cameo, but he did real good though. Josh looked different with short hair and clean shaven. You’ll see Josh in the beginning of the film.

The movie was an action packed ride like I expected. Not bad for a PG-13 action movie. I thought Paula Patton who played the film’s female star, was a pretty hot woman. The action scenes were so fun, that it made you want to cheer for Tom, and the scenes did look pretty realistic with him doing his own stunts.

I thought the movie was awesome. Liked it a lot. It just gave me even more respect for Tom. I think there is going to be a 5th “MI”, movie ’cause the ending just left open for another one, of course. I’m all for another “MI”, movie. Definitely check this one out.

Score for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Thought: Why Tom Cruise doing his own stunts in action movies…

So why has Tom Cruise decided to do his own stunts for action movies like “MI IV: Ghost Protocol” (which I plan to see tomorrow afternoon)? Well the man’s obviously got something to prove. Maybe he’s trying to get the public’s respect back after all the negative backlashes he got in the media a few years back. I’m sure that’s not the only reason, there’s more to it then that.

Maybe he just wants it to be realistic, and he just wants to prove he can do everything for real. He doesn’t want to be looked at as a fake actor. All the risky stunts he did for this movie is pretty ballsy, especially for a dude his age. Maybe he’s fed up with all the stunt doubles and want it done for real, ya know?

Plus, he wants to show the world that he can be somebody, not just some Scientoligist idiot, jumping on Oprah’s couch. What ever it is, he’s definitely got something to prove.

I’ve never been this excited for a Mission Impossible movie ’cause I never cared for the first three. I’m actually excited as hell for “Ghost Protocol”. Looks like a great action packed ride. Looks fun.

Like him or not, Tom is a talented actor, he can do just about anything and he can play any role that throws at him. He’s done everything from bad guy to action hero. I like a lot of Tom Cruise flicks. “Risky Business”, “Top Gun”, “Rain Man”, “Legend”,”Collateral”, “Minority Report”, “Eyes Wide Shut”, and “Valkyrie” are some of my favorite movies of his. I hated his last movie, “Knight & Day”, though, that wasn’t a good one.

I’m looking forward to “Ghost Protocol” tomorrow, and of course, I’ll review the film when I get back.

Cool Video: Behind the scenes video proves Tom Cruise building stunt is real…

A behind the scenes video of “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” surfaces the web, showing the scene where Tom Cruise is doing the action scene on a tall building in, Dubai.

It proves the scene was done for real. No green screens, no special effects and no stunt doubles. That’s all Tom. He looks very confident doing that too.

No matter what you think of Tom, love him or hate him, what he did here is pretty ballsy. It gave me a little more respect for him after this. I can’t wait to see the movie, I’m definitely seeing it in theater.

See the video here, at AICN.

Report: Tom Cruise to play Jaxx in “Rock of Ages” musical film…

After the Les Grossman role, prepare for even more dancing Tom Cruise on the big screen. Tom is closing in on a deal to star as Jaxx in the “Rock of Ages” musical. Jaxx is a character who sang Bon Jovi’s “Wanted: Dead or Alive”.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

We all know that Tom can dance good, but the question we all want to know is, can he sing? Yes, he can do that too.  He always had a passion for music.

Daredevil Tom Cruise performs stunt on the tallest building ever!

I know there are a lot of Tom Cruise haters out there, but maybe these pics will help give the man the respect that he deserves. He certainly got mine after seeing these pics. Daredevils would do crazy and dangerous things in big cities over the years. Well, Tom Cruise has become a bit of a daredevil himself. Tom hangs around on the tallest building in the world, the famous Burj Khalifa, in Dubai. You know how high that fucking building is? It is extremely high. You can also see Tom running across the building windows.

Tom is seen here, hanging off that building, using one cable and not using much to help him stay up there. Isn’t that crazy? Check out these pics here, and here.

Well, you can definitely tell that Tom is NOT afraid of heights for sure. Like the dude or not, you gotta give him credit for having some balls and bravery for doing a crazy and risky stunt like this. If any of those cables snapped, he definitely would have been a goner.

Report: Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Maverick for “Top Gun” sequel but for a small role…

At first, Tom Cruise, denied talks that he will be returning as Maverick, for the upcoming, “Top Gun” sequel, but looks like he changed his mind. He actually agreed to return to the sequel, but the only thing is, it will be a cameo.

See the article, here.

Good on Tom! Glad he realized that a Top Gun sequel wouldn’t be right without him at all, a small role is good enough.

Thought: About “Mission Impossible IV” getting the reboot instead of another sequel…

Paramount Pictures announced the shocking news that the new “Mission Impossible” movie won’t actually be the fourth installment to the series, it’s starting all over again, aka a reboot. Jeremy Renner has been signed to star the lead. So that means Tom Cruise will be on as just a supporting role, so Tom won’t be in the movie all that much.

I know the reboot is getting a lot of hate by the fans. Fans would prefer a 4th sequel, but you know what, the Mission Impossible series deserves to start over again ’cause simply put, the first three weren’t that good.

I’m actually looking forward to the reboot and hope they make it a better movie next time around.

Report: Paramount Pictures cuts Tom Cruise’s upfront pay for “MI: 4″…

Due to the box office failure for “Knight and Day”, that gave Paramount Pictures no choice but to cut Tom Cruise’s upfront pay for the upcoming, “Mission Impossible 4”. That means Tom will not be getting paid anything before the movie starts filming. He will have to wait to get paid after the movie is done and released, he’ll get his share of the investment after.

Collider reports:

http://www.collider.com/2010/08/05/tom-cruise-mission-impossible-4-pay-cut-paramount-pictures/

I’m pretty sure Tom is not worried about not getting paid before the movie. Tom is loaded enough to not care about money. “MI: 4” will be a smash hit no matter what happens. So Tom will get plenty of cash when the movie is released. Tom always said he’s into acting ’cause he loves the movies, he’s always said he wasn’t in it for the money.

I have no interest in seeing “Knight and Day” but “MI: 4” is kind of exciting. I hope they make “MI: 4” a great one. Not much of a Mission Impossible fan, but if they make “MI: 4” an action packed ride, I might go to the theaters for this one.

I thought Tom’s best performance in his career was in the Bryan Singer Nazi film, “Valkyrie”, Tom’s acting was phenomenal in that film. He needs to stop doing silly films like “Knight and Day” and go back to do serious stuff like “Valkyrie”. I like Tom in action films too.

Report: Les Grossman will get his own movie to the big screen…

As long as you’re Tom Cruise, you can get whatever you want. Les Grossman is a character from Ben Stiller’s, “Tropic Thunder”. The character was played by Tom Cruise. Even if the character was in the movie for just a small role, the character became a hit. Later on, Tom expressed interest in wanting to play the character more with the permission of Ben Stiller, since Ben is the one that created the character. Well, look like Ben Stiller is cool with Tom playing Les Grossman more, ’cause Paramount made it official that a Les Grossman movie is coming to the big screen.

More on it here:

Very cool. I loved Tropic Thunder and I thought Les Grossman was a cool character. This could be a funny movie if made right.

Although I have a feeling that the Les Grossman movie might possibly be about him dancing on stage or in a nightclub. Tom sure knows how to dance.
