Report: Buck Rogers coming to the big screen…

Nu Image/Millenium has acquired the film rights to “Buck Rodgers” a popular fictional story that got it’s start in the 1920’s in radio, then made it’s way to comics, TV, movies, etc. The TV series had two different actors play Buck Rogers, Gil Gerard and Buster Crabbe.

Nu Image/Millenium’s company owner Avi Lerner won the rights from the suriving family members who run the Dille Trust company. Frank Dille was the creator of the Buck Rogers series. Disney used to own the rights to the Buck Rogers character but the Dille family won the rights from Disney.

I have always been a huge fan of the Buck Rogers series. I’d say bring the film on!

I hope they don’t mess this one up and hope they choose a good actor to play Buck.

Report: “Donnie Darko” sequel is in the works…

A sequel to the 2001 movie “Donnie Darko” starring Jake Gyllenhaal is being made. The sequel will be titled “S. Darko”. Fox studios has already won the North American rights for this film. Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie’s younger sister. The film will be directed by Chris Fisher and will be about a $10 million budget film.

The film picks up from where it left off in the first one where Donnie’s sister is now a full grown adult, and she goes on a road trip with her best friend where they are trapped in bizzare visions similar to the first one.

Donnie Darko is not in the new film but there will be rabbits. Jake Gyllenhaal will not reprise his role for obvious reasons but it would be nice to see flashbacks of Gylenhaal’s character.

Filming is scheduled to begin May 18th…

Well, the first “Donnie Darko” did kind of leave open a sequel, there were plenty of unanswered questions that needs some explaining for the ending of the first one.

I’d say bring on the sequel! I’m interested in seeing how they will continue this creative story. I loved the first one.

As a fan of Billy Idol I’ll probably wind up getting this. This guy rules! This guy was one of the coolest rock stars back in those days in the 80’s. Gotta love his singing voice and the white spiked hair. Billy continues to release new albums occasionally but he is not a mainstream artist anymore like he once was.

Report: Charles Grodin to have returning cameo in the next Muppet movie…

Charles Grodin before

Charles Grodin now

MTV Movies Blog reports that actor Charles Grodin who appeared in leading roles in such films as “Midnight Run” with Robert Deniro and the “Beethoven” series a family film about a father who hates owning a dog is making a return to the Muppet movie series by appearing in a cameo in the next one. Charles Grodin played the leading role in “The Great Muppet Caper” playing the role as Nicky Holiday.

The writer for the next Muppet film Jason Segel wrote a cameo strictly for Charles Grodin, he didn’t quite say if he is reprising the role of Nicky Holiday or not. He also revealed that he has plans in bringing in Sesame Street characters as well so it could be a mix of all Muppet characters.

From MTV Movies Blog:

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/05/06/jason-segel-reveals-surprise-muppet-movie-cameoits-charles-grodin/

Pretty cool news. Sounds like they’ll make the next Muppet movie a huge blockbuster this time around. The last 3 or 4 Muppet films were flops.

I hope they do better next time so it can feel like a real Muppet movie.

Report: “Superbad” leads MTV Movie Awards nominations this year…

The hit comedy film “Superbad” starring the great Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, a film about three high school “virgin” kids desperate in getting laid at this drinking party they want to go to has lead the MTV Movie awards nominations this year. The MTV Movie Awards will be aired live on MTV this year on June 1.

The Associated Press Reports:

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20080507/D90GG0KG1.html

When I first heard of “Superbad” I thought it was another one of them stupid teen comedies, so that’s why I passed on seeing it in theater and waited for DVD release instead. When it came out on DVD and I watched it, I thought the movie was fantastic and one of the best comedy films I’ve seen in a long time.

McLovin’ is one of the coolest movie characters!

Report: Tom Cruise might return to Mission Impossible 4…

Summer Redstone who is a entertainment mogul, and also the chairman and controlling shareholder of Viacom and CBS corp is actually giving actor Tom Cruise permission to star in “Mission Impossible 4” if Paramount Pictures is up for it. Paramount Pictures banned Tom Cruise from filming movies with the company due to his never ending media frenzy creating controversy in the news.

While Redstone gave the ok to Cruise starring in Mission Impossible 4 it is still all up for Paramount Pictures who still owns the series.

Yahoo movies reports:

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/20080506/121008240000.html

Paramount should do what’s right and not lift his ban from filming movies. The dude deserves no place in Hollywood and no one cares for Tom Cruise anymore.

We used to love him back in the 80’s and the early 90’s when he was great, but today he is such a douchebag.

Report: Heath Ledger Joker dolls (or action figures) flies off shelves…

The newly made and released Heath Ledger joker action figures are selling out quick. They are priced at $9.99 and people in NYC are having a hard time trying to find one. Toys ‘R Us in NYC says it will take a while to get more in.

More on it here:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/05062008/news/regionalnews/jokers_wild__ledger_dolls_fly_off_shelve_109586.htm

Now, don’t tell me that people from all over the states and the world, traveled to NYC just get a Heath Ledger Joker action figure. Come on now. They are just plastic toys! Are they really worth something or will they worth a lot 20 years from now?

I love Heath Ledger as the Joker myself but a toy is a toy!

I can’t wait to see “The Dark Knight”. Honestly, out of all of my most anticipated movies I want to see, I’m dying to see “The Dark Knight” over everything else. “The Dark Knight” will indeed be the best Batman movie ever made. “The Dark Knight” is my no. 1 most anticipated film.

Report: Terminator 4 to get a PG-13 rating…

Filming is starting this week for “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” set for release May 22nd 2009 and the film makers want to make it a PG-13 rating to make the next Terminator film more family friendly. This move was inspired after the release of “Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard”. They actually think T-4 will be a more successful film being a family film.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117985086.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Well, look like I won’t be seeing this in theater. First no Arnold, then the PG-13 rating. Just two reasons that the film will bomb, big time. Nobody wants to see a Terminator movie with less violence and no swearing. Sorry but that’s the truth.

Report: MacGyver movie finally coming to the big screen???

Announced today at Maker Faire 2008, the MacGyver creator and (real life inspiration of the character) Lee David Zlotoff revealed he has a big budget MacGyver movie in the works that is for sure to be a major blockbuster motion picture.

Zlotoff won the rights for the Macgyver film years ago so he could have full control of the film. Zlotoff is now finally getting the ball rolling on the film however, he is still keeping plans of this film under wraps for now.

More on it here:

http://gizmodo.com/386877/holy-crap-macgyver-blockbuster-film-coming

Hmmmm…

As long as they have Richard Dean Anderson back as MacGyver, I will go see it. If they have another guy play the character, forget it.

To my understanding, Richard Dean Anderson is still currently playing in “Stargate SG-1” aired exclusively on the Sci-FI Channel, if he’s still capable of acting, I’m sure he’s still capable of playing MacGyver.

Having someone else play MacGyver would be travesty and the Macgyver movie would bomb without him for sure. This was one of my favorite TV shows ever made, I loved Macgyver.

PLEASE BRING BACK RICHARD!
