Phish at SPAC last night…

I went to the show last night. Phish at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. Amazing as usual. This was their best show. Tight all the way through and danced my ass off throughout their entire set.

It was a long gig, it went a little over 5 hours long, two sets and an encore. Most songs are long 10 – 30 minute jams of course.

I didn’t recognize any of the songs, and didn’t know the names of them, but still, it was amazing and impressive musicianship. The original members of Phish were all on stage.

Shockingly enough, they even covered Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” to make fun of the song for a laugh. The guy that sang the song (which is one of the band members of Phish) sang it really bad and was dressed like a woman, it was supposed to be bad as a sense of humor kind of thing.

They ended their show with a cover of Ac/Dc’s “Highway To Hell”.

See their setlist at the band’s official website here:

Phish concert tonight at Spac…

Tonight is the Phish concert at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. This is the final show the band’s summer tour. So this will be a huge one.

Trey to have a few special guests to jam with on stage at SPAC? Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, etc.??? We’ll have to wait and find out.

It’s going to be a fun show. I will write all about it when I get back.

Report: Police officers ask Bob Dylan for ID and they didn’t even know who he was…LOL!!!

Bob Dylan, was in Long Branch, New Jersey, as part of the Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp tour which he is set to play a show at a baseball stadium in Lakewood. Before the gig, Dylan was out for a stroll in Long Branch town to kill some time for something to do.

A young female police officer asked Dylan some ID, but the American folk rock legend didn’t have any ID on him. The police treated him like if he was an unknown person like he was a bum or something.

Dylan explained to the police that he was on tour, still the police didn’t know who “BOB DYLAN” was. Crazy, right? Dylan was very nice to the police and cooperated with them 100%.

Hilarious! Ha!

How can anybody not know who Bob Dylan is?

They didn’t realize they were talking to an American legend and icon in person!

Now they know!

Thoughts: Top 10 bands/artists that should have played Woodstock ’69…

With the 40th Anniversary of “Woodstock ’69” now here, the Woodstock celebration continues. What bands that should have been booked to perform at Woodstock ‘ 69?

1. Led Zeppelin – They were asked to perform at Woodstock ’69, but the band turned it down. A shame, they would have been good. In 1969, Led Zeppelin were a new band at the time as they only released Led Zeppelin I album that year. Even though Led Zep didn’t have much original material that year, I’m sure the band would have thrown in a bunch of cover songs to fill the set time at Woodstock.

2. The Doors – They would have been a great addition to the Woodstock ’69 lineup, they turned down the gig ’cause Jim was uncomfortable playing outside gigs.

3. Fleetwood Mac – with Peter Green fronting the band at this time of year in ’69, this would have kicked ass!

4. Pink Floyd – Enough said?

5. Bob Dylan – As much as I don’t like Bob Dylan too much, it was very weird on why he didn’t play the festival.

6. Tommy James and the Shondells – Another band that was asked to play but turned down, I’ve always loved this band, them being a part of Woodstock would have been something very special.

7. Jethro Tull – I wonder why they never played, it would have been a great opportunity for them.

8. Cream – Eric Clapton’s 1960’s heavy rock blues band would have been great!

9. B. B. King – Don’t hurt to have a little blues, don’t it? B.B. would have been perfect as well.

10. The Allman Brothers Band – Although they only had one album released that year, I can definitely see them playing on that Woodstock stage.

Report: Brooks & Dunn speaks on retiring from the country music industry…they blame it on writer’s block…

Earlier in the week, country music group, Brooks & Dunn, announced their retirment from the country music industry for good…this sparked a lot of controversy all over the web. After the huge internet response, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn speak out on why they are leaving music.

They made it clear that “writer’s block” is reponsible. The duo claims they ran out of material and ideas to write new original songs. They claim they made music in every possible way they could think of that they can’t think of what else to do.

The Associated Press reports:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h4mxWhr-sQKJEedTIaeRYdEr4iCAD9A1NEC03

Very true. Sometime’s writers block is responsible for singer/songwriters and bands for quitting music. They write all the songs that they think of in their head and when no inspiration hits, nothing comes out. You wrote all the music you wanted in the past, sometimes it gets boring playing the same chords/riffs and similar lyrics in songs all of the time.

Don’t worry, Brooks & Dunn maybe back in the future. I’m pretty sure they’ll one day come out of retirement in the next several years or so when they want to get together to write new songs again.

Report: Johnny Cash to become a character in “Guitar Hero 5″…

Shirley Manson of the iconic band, Garbage, will not be the only one appearing as a character in “Guitar Hero 5”. Activision is also adding the legendary, Johnny Cash as a character as well for him to perform during his song “Ring of Fire”.

More on it here:

Yep, I think I’m completely sold to “Guitar Hero 5”. I think I will get it definitely now they added Johnny Cash as a character, badass.

They next need to add Dave Mustaine as a character for the game when he does “Sweating Bullets” in it, and they’re all set.

Brock gives a shout out to two area Capital District bands: Railbird and Lunic…

I have always said that most Capital District local music today is mostly shit and music that don’t grab me at all…but there are two new bands that came around the Capital District, New York area that really impressed me.

One band that comes to mind is Railbird, a Saratoga Springs based band…

Check out Railbird here:

http://www.myspace.com/railbirdmusic

This is another female fronted band called, Lunic, they recently opened for Creed at Spac. I didn’t see the Creed show, but since Lunic is an Albany based band, I decided to check them out. Lunic is unique and great rock n’ roll like you’ve never heard of.

Lunic here:

http://www.myspace.com/lunic

I wanna try to go out and see these two bands more often. Really good stuff and finally, bands that write really great original music!!!

You don’t see much of that here. Consider me a fan of both of these bands. No offense to other Capital District musicians but Railbird and Lunic is some of the best music I’ve ever heard around here.

Report: George Strait actually writes more on new album, “Twang”…

Brooks & Dunn maybe quitting the music industry for good, but not George Strait. Strait, another country music legend, is obviously still going. George Strait released another new studio album this week, a new album titled, “Twang”. This is his 38th album. Yes, he’s been around for that long.

The thing with George Strait is that out of his 37 albums in the past, he hardily ever wrote his own songs. Other songwriters wrote for him mostly, George only wrote his own songs once in a while. This album, “Twang”, he pretty much wrote the entire record himself. In this article, he vows to write his own stuff from this point on.

Report: Phish reveals tracklisting of new album, “Joy”, disc to hit stores Sept 8th…

Trey Anastasio and Phish has revealed the tracklisting of their new album, “Joy” which will hit record stores everywhere Sept. 8th this fall. Phish will also end their summer tour this coming Sunday, Aug. 16th at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

I will be attending their SPAC gig this Sunday and it will be thrilling to be part of their last gig of the tour this year. I’m pretty sure, Phish will give Saratoga Springs their best gig.

I’m also looking forward to their new album which I will definitely pick up. I don’t have any Phish albums in my collection but I’m going to start collecting their entire discography. I’m going to have to order Phish albums online though since at Best Buy and F.Y.E. has mostly Phish live albums, I want their studio albums.

I love Phish so much, they are one of the best bands going in the music industry today.

Report: Hank Williams Sr. biopic is coming to the big screen…

Nashville based film studios, 821 Entertainment Group and Strike Entertainment has greenlighted a biopic movie to do a film about the legendary country singer, Hank Williams Sr. Marc Abraham who works for Strike Entertainment will write the script. A director and the leading actor for the Hank Williams role has not yet been found.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118007124.html?categoryid=16&cs=1

Since Hank was just a young kid back in his time, the actor must be young too. Heath Ledger would have been my top choice to play Hank ’cause he would have been perfect in my opinion, but since Heath is obviously gone too…I don’t really know who else to play Hank.

Emille Hirsch wouldn’t be a bad choice to play Hank Sr. though.
