Song of the Day: “Melissa” by The Allman Brothers

One of my favorite tunes by the Allman’s. Beautiful tune.

To tell you a little story on how the song was written… Gregg Allman wrote this song on Duane’s guitar. Gregg struggled to write songs of his own. While he threw out 300 of his own originals, he felt that this one is what he liked best ’cause Duane liked it. So Gregg kept the song and put it on the album, “Eat a Peach” in tribute to Duane since he was killed in a motorcycle accident before that record was released.

I plan on doing a cover of this tune myself when I get it up on youtube, I’ll give you the heads up.

I agree with Ac/Dc headlining “Coachella” but not Drake and Jack White…

Man, I’m tired of Jack White headlining all the big festivals lately. I’m NOT a fan of the White Stripes or his solo career. Jack White is overrated as hell as I’ve never bought his music. Yet, another rapper headlining a festival.

I agree with Ac/Dc, though. Ac/Dc haven’t headlined a big festival in many years so I’m glad they’re getting the opportunity.

I used to appreciate and respect these big festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bamboozle, etc but they are becoming a joke lately. I am beginning to hate them all.

Edit to add: I meant to say that I wasn’t a fan of the White Stripes or Jack White’s solo stuff.

Song Of The Day: “Dollhouse” by The Lucky Jukebox Brigade

Time to support a local band here. I love this band, the Lucky Jukebox Brigade. I downloaded their albums, “Familiar Fevers” and “Pretty Well Damned” from their bandcamp site and can’t stop listening to them. They really are incredible and I would like to get out there and catch them live at some point. Lucky Jukebox Brigade is one of the very few local bands that I love around here other than EBJ, Dryer, Wild Adriatic and the Parlor.

Enjoy this song.

Song of The Day: “Blow Up The Outside World” by Soundgarden

One of the best radio singles by the mighty Soundgarden. Love this song too much. Love how it starts off kind of slow, then it gets heavy and tight toward the end. Chris’s voice is killer in this tune. “Down On The Upside” may not be everyone’s favorite Soundgarden album but I think it’s an amazing record. It’s different than all the others. I still love Soundgarden to this day. Loved this band for years.

Song Of The Day: “Walk Like A Giant” by Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Neil Young has always been a hero of mine musically. Whether he does acoustic or full band electric, I love everything the man does. So far, I have 15 of his albums in my collection and counting! Yeah, I’m that big of a fan and trying to collect all of his discography of albums as best as I can. Neil is a rock genius. “Psychedelic Pill” is the best album he did with Crazy Horse, in my opinion.

This track maybe long but it’s my favorite off the album. It’s just an amazing rock tune. Neil’s lead guitar playing just melts your face, big time. I love all the overdrive effects in this song. Just a badass rock tune.

Why are kids these days listening to garbage like Rihanna, Kanye or One Direction when everybody should be listening to Neil Young instead?

I think Bono’s love for playing guitar isn’t over, he shouldn’t be too worried about it…

Bono claims that he may never play guitar again due to his bike accident. As you all know Bono hurt himself last Nov. in New York City in a bicycle accident. He hurt himself pretty bad. Now he is worried that he may never play guitar again.

It may not seem like that Bono is a guitar player but he is. He’s been playing guitar for U2 for many years. If you watch the live U2 video performances in youtube you can see plenty of videos of Bono playing guitar. He may not be a virtuoso but he’s just a rhythm guitarist from the looks of things. The Edge does all of the lead guitar work obviously. Bono sings most of the time on the stage.

I don’t think his guitar playing days are over as he claims. I’m sure there are ways to get his strength for his arms back and stuff. He might have to relearn guitar all over again, though.

I don’t get all the u2 hate. I’ve always liked them and still do. I’m not that crazy about their newer music… I was more into the earlier U2 like the stuff they did in the early 80’s and early 90’s. My favorite U2 albums were “October”, “The Joshua Tree”, “Unforgettable Fire”, “Zooropa”, “All That You Can’t Leave Behind” and “Achtung Baby”. Everything else they did was kind of, meh.

U2 doesn’t suck, though. They should be respected ’cause look at how many legendary bands out there that stuck together for a long time with the same members? U2 had a 30 year or more career and they’ve always been the same 4 guys: Bono, Adam, Larry and Edge. Many bands over the years have had many replacements in the lineup but not U2. If that’s not impressive, then I don’t know what else it is.
