Song of the Day: “Stranglehold” by Ted Nugent…

Uncle Ted may not be everyone’s favorite ’cause of his politics but love him or hate him, he’s a rock n’ roll genius. All the haters and doubters will never admit that, right? Like it or not, it can’t be denied he had a very successful rock n’ roll career and he’s still kicking ass! This is one of my favorite rock tunes of all time. Great riff, guitar solos and Derek’s voice is just killer!!!

When ever I get a rock band together, I definitely wanna cover this one myself.

Song Of The Day: “The Old Man Down The Road” by John Fogerty…

Now this is what a true rock n’ roll song is supposed to sound like! “The Old Man Down the Road” is a badass and sick as hell song. I love it so much. I really miss rock n’ roll sounding like this.

It’s got a great riff, great backing band and Fogerty’s voice is just killer! This is a rock n’ roll song you can dance to and bop your head up and down all day long.

John Fogerty is a genius. I love his work in Creedence and his solo career! I had the opportunity to see him live as a solo act once and I’ll never forget that show.

How come rock n’ roll doesn’t sound like this today? This is what a rock single is supposed to sound like.

Song Of The Day: “Fear of the Dark” by Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands. They’ve always have been. I don’t have much music by them, though. I just have their double Greatest Hits album and their latest record, “The Final Frontier”. I should get more of their studio albums though and will. They’ve always been the greatest and yes, they are another band not in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame yet and they are in need of an induction too.

Will Metallica release their new album in 2015? I think there’s a good chance…

Metallica hasn’t released a new album in a long while. Fans are dying for the band to release their follow-up album from 2008’s “Death Magnetic”. What I love about Metallica is that they don’t head into the studio just because their fans want them to. They head into the studio when they’re ready and when they feel the time is right. So therefor, the band goes into the studio on their terms and not everyone else’s. Yeah, it’s true that they take a lot of time in between albums but that’s probably because the band goes on tour more than recording in the studio.

I know how Metallica’s songwriting process works ’cause I’ve seen all of their behind the scenes footage of each album they did. They document every studio session on video. Watch their movie, “Some Kind of Monster” and you would see how the band does things. They just write a bunch of riffs and ideas and then they try to put them together into a song. They won’t stop working on the music until they are happy with it.

Yeah, people want the band to go back to their old-school thrash metal sound. They try to. They tried to do that with their “Death Magnetic” album a little bit, go back to thrash metal. Even though the band tries to go back to their old sound… they can’t. That’s not how music works. Bands & musicians are about moving forward. They just play whatever comes out of them, ya know? That’s all there is to it. There’s no possible way a musician can go back to their old sound they once had. It’s all about musical inspiration.

Will they go back to their old-school thrash metal? Like what they had on albums like “Ride the Lightning”, “Kill ‘Em All” and “Master of Puppets”??? I don’t know. I swore that Lars said in an interview that they’re gonna go back to their early 90’s stuff a little bit. Go back to the “Black Album” era.

However, no matter how many times Metallica tries to make their fans happy… they’re always gonna get complainers and whiners. No matter what kind of music they put out. Even if the next Metallica album is really heavy and tight… fans will always try to find something to complain about. Watch for it. No matter what these guys do, people will always hate, hate, hate. So I can’t blame ’em for not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks.

This band sounds different every album and that’s what I love about ’em. They’re not afraid about going different directions. It’s about evolving. These guys are recording new songs and writing so I’m looking forward to hearing what they got.

Metallica always had the utmost respect from me. I’ve always loved the band no matter how much controversy and negativity that is thrown at them. I’ve always supported the band from day 1 and looking forward to their next album for sure. Don’t be surprised if they go different directions again.

Check out these live performances by At The Gates in this videos here…

Seriously, this band is incredibly awesome!!! After seeing these live videos of this band makes me wish I could see the band live myself. They seem like a fun band to see. Listen to their guitar playing. Aren’t their riffs fuckin’ tight or what? They’re kind of like Metallica and Slayer put together.

After listening to At The Gates makes me want to listen to a lot more death metal and I think I will.

Album purchases for this month…

Due to getting a few gift cards for Itunes, I decided to download 4 albums. Today I purchased…

At The Gates – “At War With Reality”: Once again, this is that death metal band from Sweden that I was talking about. Guitar World magazine helped me wanting to get into their music. This is their comeback album that they released earlier this year. Not sure if you know this but At The Gates broke up around the time “Slaughter of the Soul” was released and that was the album that helped them become more successful. So I ended up getting their new album, “At War With Reality”. You may not be into death metal yourself but give these guys a chance. These guys are actually pretty enjoyable and you won’t be disappointed. They only have 5 albums in their career so far and I think I’m gonna get their other three albums soon. I’m a big fan of this band.

Al Di Meola – “Consequence of Chaos”: I’m a big Al Di Meola fan and trying to get more of his music as much as possible. This is an album he released in 2006 and looking forward to hearing it. He’s beginning to be one of my guitar heroes and I think I’m gonna place him in my top 5. I would like to collect his entire discography too.

Dream Theater – (2013 self titled): I’m a pretty big Dream Theater fan. Have been for a long time. I’ve heard most of their newer music though. So far the only Dream Theater albums I own are: “Octavarium”, “Systematic Chaos”, “A Dramatic Turn of Events” and now their latest self titled album. I’m trying to collect all of their music the best I can too. I love Dream Theater. They’re a prog & metal band with John Petrucci as guitarist… he’s one of my favorite guitarists of all time as well.

The Doors – (1967 self titled debut): I think it’s finally time to start getting some Doors music. I need to hear Jim’s voice and Ray’s amazing organ playing. Their albums were on sale in Itunes for Christmas so I decided to grab one.

That’s it for now! Enjoy!

Song Of The Day: “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead

Lemmy Kilmister celebrates his 69th birthday on this Christmas Eve. Yes, he is 69, you heard that right. The man is still rockin’ with Motorhead to this very day. He has never stopped doing what he loves to do, rock n’ rollin’! He’s been playing for Motorhead for many years and he’s still going with Motorhead. Motorhead still releases albums and they still tour full time. I’ve always respected Motorhead and Lemmy. I still need to get myself some Motorhead music from Itunes soon. I’ve listened to this band for a pretty long time, just never bought their albums much. I think I used to have their “Ace of Spades” album but don’t know what happened to it. Maybe somebody borrowed it and never brought it back or I got rid of it myself, not sure but I’ll get that album again. It’s a great album. Lemmy still performs on stage even if he’s not in the best of health right now. He’s just gonna keep rockin’ until he’s dead. Trust me on that. \m/
