Eric Clapton still rocks on the stage at 70 years old and he still looks great too!!!

Eric Clapton played a gig at the Madison Square Garden last night. At 70 years old, he still kills it which is no surprise really. He still plays guitar great and sings great too. I know he hasn’t played live in a long while but it looks like Eric is slowing down on the touring. Looking at his website, he’s got a small tour in the US and then he’ll be headed to the UK in May for the Royal Albert Hall gigs. Then he’s back at MSG and the Forum in Los Angeles in Sept.

Eric no longer tours heavily like he used to… probably because of his age but like I said, he still kills it on the stage and still plays great. From last night’s MSG show, Eric played most of his greatest hits. Here are three of my favorite songs of his in the videos above.

A lot of people don’t like Eric Clapton and think he’s overrated but I don’t think so. He’s a phenomenal singer and guitarist. Loved everything he has done over the year: Cream, Derek & The Dominoes, his solo career, etc. Clapton is a fuckin’ genius. Always loved his music.

All the Clapton haters will never admit that he’s an important music artist in rock n’ roll & blues. We all play the guitar because of him too. Admit it, right?

Happy birthday, Eric Clapton…

It’s kind of funny ya know… thanks to Apple Music streaming, it gave me the opportunity to listen to ALL of Cream’s music and ALL of Eric Clapton’s solo albums in his entire discography. I haven’t listened to the Derek and the Dominos album yet but I will get around to it. I love Eric Clapton. He’s been my favorite guitarist for years. He’s one of the reasons I play guitar and why I do what I do. While I do love Clapton’s solo career, I loved his solo albums in the 70’s and the 80’s better but the stuff he did in the 90’s and up weren’t that good. Although, the only new Eric Clapton album I liked a lot was “The Breeze” that tribute album he did for JJ Cale was the best new album he did. Anyway, I’m a huge fan of Clapton. I was also a huge fan of his stuff in the Yardbirds too even though his career in the Yardbirds was pretty short.

I’m glad he’s still playing music and doing his thing. He’s got a new album coming out this year which I’m looking forward to. Even though I like Clapton’s older stuff more, he will always be a genius.

Happy birthday, Eric!

Happy Birthday, Eric Clapton!!!

Today is Eric Clapton’s 69th birthday. He is one of the reasons I play the guitar. I’ve been a longtime fan and admirer of his. When people ask me who are my favorite guitarists of all time are, here is my top 5: 1) Jimmy Page 2) Jimi Hendrix 3) Joe Satriani 4) Eric Clapton 5) Neil Young.

Yep, he’s definitely one of my top fives.

Someday, I’m gonna play lead guitar just as good as those guys I listed above. I’m really working on it too. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get there for 19 years now and still feel I’m not there yet. I’ve been practicing and learning. Trying to learn music theory, ear training, and techniques. My goal as a guitarist is to become a master improviser and I’m getting the hang of it, I think. Still have a lot of work to do but getting there.

While Eric Clapton is great, I wish he would go back to great blues guitar playing again like in the old days. His music lately has been taking different directions. I’ll always respect the hell out of Eric, though. He’s got a lot of haters & doubters too but I don’t care what they think. Eric is a musical genius.

Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, two guitar legends will once again share the stage at the O2 Arena in London, England on Feb. 13th, 2010.

The two guitarists have been best friends for many years as they go waaaayyyyy back in the Yardbird days.

At the O2 show in Feb. Clapton/Beck will both play a set together jamming on stage, and they will both play a separate solo set alone.

Sounds good. Hopefully this gig will be a live recording for a DVD/CD kind of thing.

Report: Metallica, Springsteen, Eric Clapton, u2, Stevie Wonder and more to perform at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert!!!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is putting on a huge 25th Anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City for two nights on October 29th/30th.

Metallica has been booked to share the stage with U2, Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklin on Oct. 29th. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will hit the stage with Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

More on it here:

Since Crosby, Stills and Nash has booked as “and friends”, they’re probably going to jam with other famous musicians, assuming Neil Young will be there to reunite with them. Crosby, Stills and Nash didn’t reunite with Neil Young at Glastonbury 2009, but maybe they will at this show.

Yep, you can betcha there probably will be a huge Michael Jackson tribute at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Hall of Fame show, because simply put, Michael Jackson was a Hall of Fame inductee back in 2001. Maybe Metallica will cover “Beat It” again like they did at that one Grammy awards show but they’ll play the whole song next time.

James Hetfield singing “Beat It”? It may sound silly, but I think he can nail it perfectly with no problem.

I’m sure all the Hall of Famers would gather around on stage together to jam on some kind of Michael Jackson song together, lets hope they don’t sing, “We are the World/Heal the World”. I think “Beat It” would be the best choice for the Hall of Famers to jam on tributing MJ, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
