Black Sabbath posted this message on their facebook page last Friday:
“We were saddened to hear yesterday via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current Black Sabbath plans…we have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open… We are still in the UK with Tony. Writing and recording the new album and on a roll… See you at Download!!!
– Tony, Ozzy and Geeze”
Bill posted this message on his site yesterday, read it, here.
Even if Sabbath welcomed Bill to come back to the band whenever he wanted, I think Bill just wanted to get payed a lot of money that everyone else couldn’t afford to pay him. People on the internet are blaming the labels, they’re blaming Sharon, etc. Sorry people, but there is no one to blame but Bill himself. He is being an ego driven greedy douche. This was all his decision.
If you knew Black Sabbath’s history, Bill had trouble sticking with the band for years. Read Tony’s book, “Iron Man”, it’s all there. Most fans are upset that the drummer could get replaced. Again, more evidence that there’s a lot of new & young fans out there who don’t know much about Black Sabbath. Sabbath went through so many members over the years, so I’m sure they are used to replacing musicians by now. They would have no trouble replacing somebody as I’m sure Ozzy & Tony would find somebody quickly.
My question is, did Bill already start recording drum tracks for the new album? Will they keep his drum tracks or scrap ’em for the replacement drummer?
I support Bill, yes, because he is a phenomenal drummer, but I won’t deny the fact that he is being greedy and all he cares about is money here. It wouldn’t surprise me if Tony ends up getting, Vinny Appice back.
The original Black Sabbath drummer, Bill Ward, wrote on his official blog, that he may pull out of the Black Sabbath reunion with original members, that was originally announced on, 11/11/11. He is claiming that he never got a signable contract. He said he will stick to the reunion, if the other guys in the band gives him a signable contract.
More on the story, here.
Bill is just bullshitting like usual. To the fans that are new to Black Sabbath, this wasn’t the first time he bailed out on a reunion. He’s done it plenty of times before. Also, if you read Tony Iommi’s book, “Iron Man”, Tony said that Bill Ward was always a difficult man to deal with. Bill had trouble staying committed to the band in the past. He’s just a selfish and greedy man. I think Bill is all about the money, and not the music. Disrespectful to Tony who now has cancer.
Who needs Bill. Let him go. As long as we have Ozzy and Geezer back, that’s all we need. Some of you may say, no Bill, no Black Sabbath reunion? True that but drummers can always be replaced ’cause they’re not that really important.
I’ve said it before in the blog, that something might happen with Black Sabbath in the future, and I was right. Bill and Tony always had a hard time getting along and it’s still happening.
EDIT TO ADD: I meant to say, “Bill had trouble trying to stay committed to the band”, not Tony. My bad.
Today on Friday the 13th, Tony Iommi wrote a little message on his website, thanking the fans and supporters for their support and well wishes toward his cancer announcement, that Black Sabbath made earlier this week.
Even if Tony is sick, he is letting the world know that he is in good spirits and he is still recording the new Black Sabbath album, with the original members. He says the recording is going well, and they vow to finish the rest of it.
Read his message, here.
He still didn’t say anything about the tour. What will happen with the full Black Sabbath world tour they had planned? I have a feeling they might have to cancel out of that. They might just play one gig.
If they do end up cancelling the tour completely, that will be understandable. This is such a bummer though. I’m sure the rest of the guys in Black Sabbath are heartbroken too. Life isn’t fair.
Over the weekend, Metallica had their 30th Anniversary concert at the Filmore in San Francisco, and they had a few surprises for the fans.
The videos below Metallica reunited with their former bandmate & bass player, Jason Newsted for the song, “Whiplash”. Metallica also jams with Ozzy & Geezer Butler for “Iron Man” and “Paranoid”.
Pretty cool. Congrats to Metallica on their 30th Anniversary. Love ’em or hate ’em, they are the kings of metal whether you agree with it or not. I’m sure many fans would like to think they should have retired a long time ago, but sorry to say, Metallica isn’t going away anytime soon. I’m positive Metallica will be around for a long time, they’ll be together until they get old and die.
The news of the return of Black Sabbath is great news. We’re all getting very excited. The only thing I’m worried about is the kind of reception the band is going to get when they release their new album. They haven’t released a new album in over 30 years with Ozzy being the frontman.
You have to ask yourself these questions. Will the public still care about them after all the years? The long time metal fans will accept their return of course, but people who like other genres of music outside of metal, might have a hard time accepting their return, though.
Back in the 70’s, Black Sabbath had a hard time trying to get successful with a major label ’cause they used to scare the shit out of people with their music. Could they scare people all over again with their new album? This isn’t the 70’s anymore. In today’s generation, metal fans won’t be scared of their music anymore ’cause they listened to metal for years so I’m sure they are used to the dark and scary lyrics by now. With their upcoming album, I’m pretty sure the album will create a stir in the music industry depending on how dark the lyrics are going to be.
They could get families trying to ban the album to stop kids from buying it to prevent suicides of kids by listening to that music. They might even offend churches and religions with their music. Other countries around the world may even try to ban the album as well. Things like that. Whatever it is, they’re gonna create a stir when they return.
People may know who they were back in the 70’s, but many of people of today won’t know who they are. Black Sabbath with Ozzy will definitely have to try and get their popularity back, and it might be hard for them to do for today’s industry.
Could their new upcoming album be a no. 1 record in the Billboard? It’s too early to say but it’s possible. I’m hoping the album will be really heavy and dark. There will probably be some old school sounding Sabbath on there and I’m sure they will come up with a new style as well.
It’s gonnna be interesting to see what the future of Sabbath is gonna be like up ahead. We’ll just have to wait and see.
In May of 2009, Ozzy Osbourne filed lawsuit against guitarist Tony Iommi, both men who were members of the legendary metal band, Black Sabbath. Tony Iommi is currently full owner of the Black Sabbath band name, 100%. Ozzy is upset because he feels that all 4 members of the band (also includes Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) deserves part ownership of the name, “Black Sabbath”. The judge gives this lawsuit the “ok”, that means the war is on. This battle will go to the court room.
Things already gotten heated in the court room today as it sounds like Tony Iommi is not very happy with Ozzy ’cause Iommi’s lawyer is fighting back. Both Ozzy and Tony themselves weren’t in court today, their lawyers were. When the lawsuit proceeds to battle, maybe Tony and Ozzy will be in court personally?
Tony may own the band name, yes, but Ozzy helped him create the name. See how Ozzy would be upset? Ozzy wrote the song “Black Sabbath” for their debut album, they got the name from a horror film that starred Boris Karloff with the same title. So that’s proof that Ozzy came up with the name himself and the rest of the guys agreed to use it. Also, please try to understand that the four guys in Black Sabbath created a huge legacy over the years, that’s another reason that Ozzy feels every member deserves share of the name.
I’m totally siding with Ozzy. He’s so right. This is going to be quite the interesting war and I’ll be keeping an eye on it. I hope Ozzy wins. I’m sure he will.
