Film Review: Up In the Air

Starring: George Clooney, Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga, and Jason Bateman

Directed by: Jason Reitman

Today, I just saw the movie, “Up In the Air” and here is my review.

Plot/synopsis: George Clooney, plays a businessman named, Ryan Bingham. He has no life outside of his business. The only thing he has is his job where he flies around the world, firing people off of jobs. He loves his job so much, that it’s basically all he wants to do in his life. He meets a young woman named, Natalie (Anna Kendrick), who has the same job he has. After Ryan noticing she doesn’t do a good job firing people, Ryan teaches her. As Ryan partners with Natalie in the job, he starts a friendship with her. Later, Ryan falls in love with a woman named, Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga). Ryan wants a relationship with her and tries to turn it serious. He was so in love with Alex Goran that he tries to get out of his job to try to spend his life with her. Ryan hates the idea of marriage and relationships, he was all about his profesional work. Ryan begins to understand marriage and relationships after learning about his sister getting married. He wasn’t sure if he should spend his life with women or traveling on airplanes with his work. Which will he choose?

This film was directed by Jason Reitman, who I believe is the real life son of “Ghostbusters” director, Ivan Reitman. This guy also directed, “Juno” and “Thank You For Smoking”. I believe that “Up In the Air” was truly his best directed film. The film was thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. I wasn’t bored one bit. My eyes didn’t close at all and didn’t yawn. A very very very good movie.

As usual, George Clooney is always an amazing actor. He did it again by pulling off his great acting chops like he always had. Anna Kendrick surprisingly was very good and I think she’s definitely going to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this role. The story was funny but it got serious most of the film. The acting of the entire cast all around was great. Jason Bateman, the former child star was also very good. There is also a huge surprise cameo appearance by legend, Sam Elliot, he has a tiny role in the film. I won’t say what Sam Elliot plays, but he still has the acting chops as well.

The script did a great job keeping things very unpredictable, as you never knew what was going to happen next. There were some shocking scenes, especially the surprise ending of the film. It’s a short film about an hour and a half long, but still an excellent movie. This film is definitely better than most of George Clooney’s new works. Films like “Leatherheads”, “Burn After Reading” and “The Men Who Stare At Goats” were all shit movies that I thought were crap. “Up In the Air” was amazing and I hope George keeps choosing good roles like this. George is one of my favorite actors and I’ve seen most of his movies in his filmography. Some of my other favorite movies George has starred in are: “From Dusk Til Dawn”, “Michael Clayton”, “O Brother Where Art Thou”, “Three Kings”, “The Perfect Storm”, “The Oceans Trilogy”, and “Syriana”. Add “Up In the Air” to that list.

After seeing this film, I think “Up In the Air” will definitely be a big Oscar winner. It’s a tie up along with “Inglourious Basterds”. I would seriously suggest you to check this movie out. I loved it!

I will next be seeing “Sherlock Holmes” this week and I will review that one as well.

Score for “Up In the Air” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Report: George Clooney suing paps and magazines for invasion of privacy…

You don’t mess with the rich and famous, or they’ll go mad and take your money. George Clooney and his new girlfriend were vacationing at his Italy home. George had a 13 year old girl at his home as a guest and she was snapped by a pap while she was changing in a private guest room. Two magazines in Italy published the photos, Clooney plans to sue both the paps and the magazines.

TMZ reports:

http://www.tmz.com/2009/08/14/george-clooney-sue-lawsuit-paparazzi-elisabetta-canalis-italy-photos-underage/

Is George delusional or something? Why would he say that he doesn’t know the law in the United States but he knows more about laws in Italy? Hello, George….taking nude pics of underage girls is illegal over here in the US too, idiot.

I like George as a film actor but sometimes he can be one crazy man outside of Hollywood.

I understand him completely why he would sue for invasion of privacy, but what is a 13 year old girl doing at his home? Is she a relative or friend of Clooney’s girlfriend? Or is the 13 year old just a friend of Clooney himself?

George is being a dumbass this time.

Report: Clooney’s appearance on “ER” scores high on NBC!!!

As this was expected and no surprise to me, Clooney’s appearance on “ER” scored the highest ratings. Last night’s “ER” episode was the most watched show on NBC. Clooney’s episode scored a 10.7 million viewers in all during that 10:00 p.m. hour. I expect the ratings go even higher as the series head to it’s final episode. Clooney probably filmed only four new episodes of ER, that’s it.

Thought: Clooney on “ER” last night…

I watched it last night, Clooney on “ER”. Clooney returning to the show for the first time in years, wasn’t just an appearance or a cameo, he was on the show throughout the entire hour.

I’m sure the cast and crew were shitting their pants like a mofo that George Clooney was filming with them. George’s acting put the others to shame. It’s his talented acting skills is what made him leave “ER” to become a huge movie star in the first place. George made the other cast mates look like little kids.

George and John Stamos didn’t appear on screen yet, but with three episodes left, maybe they will before the show ends. It definitely felt like the old school “ER”, again last night though.

I’m not that big of a fan of “ER”, but I did watch it a lot when Clooney was on back in the old days. Sometimes I’ll watch the new episodes too. It’s sad to see a good show go. It’s life, I guess. TV shows can’t go on forever, they all have to end at some point.

I’ll keep an eye on the ratings report to see how the ratings did with Clooney appearing on “ER” for the first time in years. I’m sure the ratings did really well. If the ratings were low, that would be sad too.

Confirmed: George Clooney to return to “ER” for one last time….

Reports are swirling the web that George Clooney is confirmed to reprise his role as Dr. Doug Ross, on the longtime hit TV show “ER”. Clooney starred in the show from ’94-’99, then he moved on to become a huge movie star like he is now.  This is the final season of ER after 14 years of being on the air. Clooney is set to appear on the final episode of “ER”.

While Clooney was filming for the last “ER” episode, it was a very secretive filming that only very few cast and crew is allowed to see.

Great news that he’s on board for the final episode. I figure he would be. It would be a huge mistake in his career if he did drop out. Now that Clooney is on the last episode of “ER”, I will watch the final episode even though I’m not much of an “ER” fan. I’m sure the whole world will tune in and the last “ER” episode will indeed be the highest rated episode.

I like George, he’s one of my favorite actors as well.

Film Review: Burn After Reading…

Starring: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton

Directed by: Joel and Ethan Coen

Just saw the movie “Burn After Reading” this afternoon, the new Coen Bros. movie. I saw this movie ’cause I like the Coen Bros. work and I saw this because Clooney, Pitt and Malkovich are all starring in a movie together which is great casting.

The plot centers on a CIA analyst named Osbourne Cox (who is played by John Malkovich) quits his job after being accused of being an alcoholic when he wasn’t. Then he begins to work on a book based on his life in the CIA. Osbourne’s wife wants to divorce him, she then makes a copy of a computer disc full of his personal and financial files that were in his own privacy.

The disc ends up up at a business called Hardbodies which is a work out gym, Brad Pitt’s character, Chad, first gets a hold of it, he teams up with his fellow co-worker Linda to use the disk to blackmail Osbourne so she can get the money to pay for her cosmetic surgery.

Linda (played by Frances McDormand) is a single woman who dates men off dating services, where she meets George Clooney’s character, Harry. Linda is only using Harry because he is a Treasury (someone who works for the US Government).

Does Osbourne Cox get his personal disc back and does he save himself from getting blackmailed by Linda and Chad? You’ll have to watch the film yourself to find out.

As far as my thoughts on the film, while I do love the Coen Bros. While I do love George Clooney, PItt and Malkovich. I thought this was a bad film. Bad acting. Bad writing. Boring story. Slow pacing. It was a real snooze fest. This is probably the worst film of 2008. I didn’t like it. It’s a shame because the Coen Bros. are great film makers and I loved every film they did until now.

I prefer their earlier work. Their last film “No Country For Old Men” was absolutely amazing. What a dissapointment that they went from Oscar award winning film to a horrible film. Thumbs down to “Burn After Reading”. What was Pitt, Clooney and Malkovich smoking when they signed to this? They probably didn’t like the story either, they probably starred in it ’cause the Coen Bros. directed it.

Score for “Burn After Reading” = * (1 star as in poor)

Report: Will George Clooney make one final appearance on “ER” before the show is done for good?

Before George Clooney became a huge movie star, he first got his recognition as an actor in the hit TV show “ER” which the show is leaving us for good on it’s final and last season ever.

Will George actually agree to appear on “ER” before the show is out? The cast and crew of “ER” are trying to get him back. Will George reprise his role as Dr. Ross for one last time?

I actually agree that George would be insane if he turned down the return to the show. I’m not much of a fan of “ER”, I do watch it sometimes, it is a good show.

George will return, I know he will agree to it. He’s too big for TV but I’m sure he will return to “ER” since he is a veteran of the show. He would want to see his old cast mates again before the show goes out.

Report: George Clooney is up for “The Challenge”…

George Clooney just bought the rights to make a film titled “The Challenge” which Clooney himself may possibly write it, direct it and star the leading role in although Clooney’s spokesperson say he hasn’t confirmed which role he will take part in for the film.

“The Challenge” will be adapted by the novel written by Jonathan Mahler. This film will be similar to “Michael Clayton” as “The Challenge” will be centered around lawyers. The synopsis for “The Challenge”, is about a lawyer named Charles Swift (which I believe who Clooney will play) and law professor Neal Katyal mission is to make sure that the Osama Bin Laden driver, Salim Hamdan gets a fair trial.

Clooney have been after Mahler’s novel for quite some time and the author gave Clooney the go ahead to make the film.

Hamdan was sentenced Aug. 7th to 66 months in prison in support of terrorism but was acquitted of the serious charge to committ murder.

While George is mostly known as an actor, he is a very good director too. I enjoy his directing style. And I hope he directs this one.

Report: George Clooney and Sarah Larson split…

When blogging about entertainment news, I almost always stay away from celebrity couples and relationships, but I feel the need to report this one. After a year of being an item together, 47 year old George Clooney and 29 year old Sarah Larson just officially split up. It sounds like Clooney himself dumped her according to unidentified sources. Clooney says he still loves her and all, but Clooney dumped her ’cause they had little in common and he didn’t want to be committed in a relationship anymore for a while. Clooney’s reps refuse to talk about his private life.

FOXNews reports:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,359468,00.html

That’s kind of too bad. I thought Clooney and Larson had something going together, and actually thought they were heading to marriage.

Well ladies, Clooney is single again, so go get him!
