I'm a musician, singer/songwriter, blogger, writer, poet, bodybuilder, movie lover, music lover, video gamer, history/political buff, conservative/republican, etc. I like to do a lot of things.

I still love Sly, I just want him to concentrate on his acting talent more than his action hero stuff…

With the upcoming release of “The Expendables 2” later this year, I’m looking forward to it of course, but I would like to see Sly concentrate on his acting talent, instead of being an action star and entertainer. Don’t get me wrong, I love Sly the action star, that’s the reason why I got into his flicks to begin with, but I love his drama acting too.

I think the best acting he ever did was the first “Rocky”, and the movie “Cop Land”, when he played Freddy Heflin. Once in a while, Sly would come out with a good movie with good acting talent. I just wish he would do that again. It seems that Sly has lost it with the acting in action movies lately.

I love Sly’s earlier movies in the 70’s and early 80’s more ’cause his acting talent was really great back in those days. Stallone movies in the 70’s like “Lords of Flatbush”, “Paradise Alley”, “F.I.S.T.”, etc. His acting was really great in those movies, you should see them if you haven’t yet.

Sly has more action movies coming out after “Expendables 2”. He’ll be doing that Walter Hill movie, “Bullet to the Head”, and he will be doing that action/thriller with Arnold, “The Tomb”.

I just wish he would do another serious drama film where he can show off his acting talent again. I know he has the acting talent, he needs the right film to show it. He keeps doing action movies ’cause that’s what he’s well known for and he’s more successful at that than other genres.

Maybe when he does the fifth Rambo movie, he could kill it with his acting talent again, I’m hoping. I don’t think he’ll ever get Oscar nominated again, but he could if he worked on his acting some more.

I’m still am a die hard fan of Sly, don’t get me wrong. Just want him to be more of an “actor”, instead of an action star. I’m sure you get my point and you might even agree with me.

The big problem with bodybuilders posting progress pics online to get feedback…

Usually, when I post progress pics online, shirtless photos of me, to try and get feedback on my progress, I would usually get a few responses, but not a lot. I would even get a few thumbs up on the pics but not many people will tell me, “good work so far”, or, “you’re looking great, keep it up”.

When other people post their progress pics in facebook, they would get a lot more responses and more feedback than I do.

I think I’m just figuring things out, that when you don’t get enough responses, no matter how big & muscular and fit you get, you’re not pretty looking enough. In other words, I don’t look like the sexy bad boy you see in the magazines. If I was good looking and pretty enough, maybe I would get a lot of responses then, but to be honest, I don’t care to be that perfect looking muscle guy that the women drool over. I think all that male model stuff is silly and so fake to me, anyway.

I want to look natural, therefor, it’s why it’s called natural bodybuilding ’cause you’re not going to look perfect but you’re still muscular. People don’t post these progress pics for attention or ego. Many of us get accused of admiring ourselves when we post ’em.

The internet is a good opportunity to prove people that you’re really into this, plus, the shirtless progress pics is a good motivational tool to get other people interested in bodybuilding. That’s why bodybuilders do it. They just want to show people how they are progressing ’cause they can’t tell their own physique and can’t tell how they look. So they let other people tell them.

So I’m not worried about not getting enough feedback on my pics. I know I’m not the best looking guy in the world, and I’m proud of it. When you don’t get many people replying to your pics, they might be a little jealous of you and they want to be like you. Which is good. You want to make people jealous,  part of a motivational thing. That’s what makes me want to keep me going.

Bands & artists needs to be careful of how they put themselves out there… especially the new and younger musicians…

The older and more professional bands & musicians are usually good at putting themselves out there ’cause they know what they are doing. They’ve been around it long enough ’cause they know how the music industry works and knows how the music world goes.

For the younger bands just getting into the scene, they’ve got a lot of learning to do. The younger bands seem to be doing everything they can to get noticed. They seem to be jumping at every opportunity that throws at them. It seems like they’ll get any gig they can get, and they seem to be wanting to play almost anywhere.

I understand bands & solo musicians do whatever they can to achieve their dreams & goals, but they need to do their careers responsibly and carefully. I mean, there are sleazy things they have to watch out for. They have to be careful of the scams that go around the music business, the pay to play schemes, they have to worry about getting ripped off by venue owners, etc. All kinds of bullshit.  This is why you can’t say yes to everything that throws at you. Some of these bands will still think this stuff is legit and a good opportunity for them. Plus, worst of all they have to watch out for sleazy club & venue owners ’cause not all of them are going to be so kind to you, believe me.

If I ever get my own band going, I’m going to be careful with everything and take everything we do seriously. Before getting booked a gig at some venue, look into it in detail and make sure the gig is worth it before saying yes to it. Don’t be afraid to turn down gigs you don’t agree with. You don’t need to agree with everything in the music world. Don’t be afraid to be real and honest about things.

Of course, when you say this stuff to other bands, they’ll think you’re full of shit and they’ll get upset easily, when all you’re doing is just looking after them as a fan and friend.

If you want your career to be on a positive note, you have to take everything you do seriously. This post is not just aimed at the young and new bands, this is aimed at the some of older bands as well, ’cause even they can mess up their careers sometimes as well.

Take it all seriously… the way you put yourselves out there. Your music, the way you promote yourself, the way you book gigs, the way you enter contests & other competitions, the way you talk to people, etc.

Another thing, communication skills. When you want to put yourself out there, you have to have your best communication skills possible. Having a good attitude and being professional is a must. Bands make the mistake that they think they can act however they want to in the music scene. They think they can act like an asshole to people whenever you want to, but if you want your music to go somewhere you can’t. Bands have the worst communication skills, it’s crazy.

This goes for me too. In the past, I wish I put myself out there better but I learn from my mistakes and I’ll learn to do much better in my next musical run.

I love shred guitar but…

… you don’t want to do that all the time. I love listening to shred music. I do love listening to guys like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, and others. They are the greats, no doubt about that. I do want to play fast lead guitar myself, but you can still play great, heartfelt and powerful guitar solos just playing slow solos with just a few notes.

Like David Gilmour has done with Pink Floyd for example. He’s the master at playing slow guitar solos with only playing a few notes, and it can still sound fuckin’ amazing! Jimmy Page has played a mixture of both fast and slower guitar solos.

You don’t want to play fast guitar solos all the time, or the music will sound like shit. You want to play fast or slow over a song, only when the song and the right tempo calls for it. I can play guitar fast okay, but not super blazing fast. Using the metronome, the fastest I am able to play is somewhere around 170 – 180 bpm’s. I do want to play even faster someday, but taking my time and practice.

I don’t care to become a shredder, I just want to improve my lead guitar playing chops. So I can be able to do all lead and rhythm work myself. My guitar studying and learning is coming along well.

I’m going to start making my own backing tracks in garageband so I can practice playing solos over them (just instrumentals with no vocals). I would also like to start getting together with other musicians ’cause that’s good practice to is jamming with real musicians. Another way of improving your lead guitar playing is playing along with solos on music that is not a guitar. For example, in jazz music, you can play along with a sax solo or play along with a violin in classical music.

I really want to be a better guitar player and trying the best I can to get there.

Why Obama needs to go….

So you see Republicans going after Obama. Guys in the election and other people who has no part in the election like Sarah Palin, and Ted Nugent continue to attack Obama. Why are these guys trying to go after him? Why are the Republicans desperately trying to get him defeated? Why do people think he’s a horrible president?

I never liked Barack Obama ever since he started running for the last election. I was rooting for McCain/Palin, I remember.

Here are 10 reasons why Obama is not qualified to be president and why he should be out of office:

  • Obamacare is Unconstitutional – This is pretty much the big one, why a lot of people are going after him. Rick Santorum was the first to bring this to people’s attention and now it’s being looked at in Supreme court. Why is it unconstitutional? Because citizens must purchase it. They force you to pay a lot of money for it and Americans believe it shouldn’t happen.
  • Obama is anti-second amendment – He wants to make the gun rights more strict. There is a lot of talk that he wants to get rid of the rights.
  • Obama’s done nothing to save the economy – He promised change and more money for the United States. Where is it? He’s done nothing but make the economy much much worse than before.
  • Obama constantly raises gas prices – How is this helping the economy?
  • Obama is a liar  – He has lied about way too many things over the years. Especially all this nonsense on Bin Laden. Remember in 2009, when he made it clear that it was no longer necessary to kill, Bin Laden? What’s with the flip flopping?
  • Obama does nothing about Iran – Iran is a dangerous threat with possible nuclear weapons, but Obama won’t do anything to launch a strike on Iran when people’s been begging him to for a long time now. Yet, he thinks Israel is a danger to the US. What’s wrong with that picture?
  • Obama spends way too much money – George W. Bush was a big money spender, Obama spends even more. How is this helping the economy?
  • Obama promised to get people more jobs, but rejects the Keystone Pipeline – The pipeline would have been a good opportunity for jobs and better things, but Obama doesn’t want it.
  • Obama’s past connection with terrorists – He has been long associated with Bill Ayers, who is responsible for bombings during the 1960’s and 70’s, in response to involvement in the Vietnam War. Does this mean that Obama himself, is a terrorist too?
  • Obama may not be an actual U.S. Citizen – Donald Trump was the first to bring this up and he demanded Barack to release his long term birth certificate for the world to see, which Barack actually did. The certificate showed that he was born from Hawaii but it could be a fake?

There are plenty more reasons why he is such a bad president. I hope he won’t get re-elected. I was hoping Rick Santorum would keep going for the election but I understand him for giving it up because of his sick daughter.

If I were to vote for someone else now, it may as well be either Mitt Romney or Ron Paul. I don’t care for either of those guys, but anything to get Obama out of office!

How I run my personal facebook page…

A lot of local musicians who have their own personal facebook pages, would have a lot of friends in their friends lists. Meaning, they would have somewhere between 1,000 to 5,000 friends or way more. Not me.

I don’t care to have that many friends. I like to keep my facebook page, short and simple. What I use it for, is to keep in touch with family, friends, people I knew from high school, supporters/fans, local musicians, people who I think are interesting or cool to me, etc. I don’t add a bunch of random people. I’m very selective and choosy of who I add and don’t add.

I believe that those people who add a bunch of people randomly, are just desperate for attention. Not naming names. They just want to make themselves look popular online when they are not really. And I’m pretty sure, that other people didn’t send them add requests. They go around trying to add as many people as possible, to see if they actually accept them.

Of course, if you call them out on this, they would think it’s marketing or promoting of their music, when you know that’s a flat out lie.

I’m okay with adding a bunch of random people on my facebook music fanpage, but with my personal facebook, no.

How to deal with musicians with big ego problems…

So we talk about how to tell musicians who have big ego problems, lets talk about how to deal with them. When you become a musician, and the more popular you become, you’re going to run into a lot of musicians with huge ego problems. A lot of them will think they are better than you and more important than you.

The trick is, don’t let them. Don’t let them think they are better or bigger than you, no matter what they say or do. Other local musicians have tried to destroy my reputation as a person and a musician lots of times before. They tried to do it with all the bullying and harassment over the years, but they failed every time. You need to be one tough, son of a bitch. The trick is, you want to think you’re better than them. It really works too.

Another trick is, just keep going with the music. Keep playing and prove them wrong that you are talented and something special. You don’t have to give up music if so many musicians are coming after ya. When they do that, it’s pretty likely they are jealous of you and they will never admit it.

This is another reason why you need to be a bit of an egomaniac yourself, so you can stay above them. Don’t let ’em ruin you. Other musicians just want to see you fail at your career ’cause they know that you are talented, that’s why they do what they do. Period.

Still trying to get bigger chest gains…but doing less and less will get you there…

Some people think doing a few chest workouts one day a week will get you bigger chest gains. It could, but you could also be over training your chest muscles as well. I see guys in the gym doing all kinds of chest workouts. They would do a lot of heavy lifting too.

I’ve been experimenting different ways of trying to get bigger chest gains. For the past month or so, I’ve been lifting everything really light, doing a few chest workouts one day a week.

For the next month or so, I’m going to start lifting a little heavier with only doing 1 chest workout a week. Yes, just one workout. Today, I just did benching with the Smith machine (it’s okay you don’t need a spotter with a Smith machine ’cause that’s what the thing was made for), that was it.

More isn’t more, less is more. That’s what I’ve been trying to concentrate on. While the rest of my body looks pretty muscular and decent, I still need work on the chest though. Maybe I have bad genetics, I don’t know. Maybe that’s why I can’t get bigger chest gains but I’ll keep trying.

Just like I can’t tell with my own talent in music. I can’t tell how I look in fitness either. That’s why I need to do those progress pics.

I do want to have a great body and taking my slow time to get there. I’ll post new progress pics sometime this Spring. I want to see if I can get bigger gains first and then I’ll post them for feedback.

Yes, I’m still into bodybuilding. My second passion behind music, so I’ll never give that up either. I just want to look better, tougher, and hopefully, sexier. I want to look good playing guitar, so I try to get in shape before getting a band going.

Kev

EDIT TO ADD: I know it takes years of hard work to get bigger chest gains, it’s a slow process.

In defense of Ted Nugent… he meant no harm…

I’m sure most everyone on the internet are going, “Oh no, Ted Nugent is such an evil and hateful person, he should be in jail for threatening, President Obama”. Boo Hooo… That’s what people in facebook are acting like now. I posted something about that. About me siding with Nugent, like usual people call me crazy and insane just for stating an honest opinion.

This Nuge vs. Obama thing gets mixed opinion. You’re either siding with the Nuge or not. Some people support Ted Nugent, and some people don’t.

Usually, when people hate on Ted Nugent or a Republican’s political views, those people are most likely Democrats or Obama supporters. Obama supporters will defend the President no matter what is said about them and there are a lot of Obama supporters in my facebook.

I don’t like President Obama like some other people. I think the Republicans are doing a great job exposing him, on how bad of a president he is.

I don’t take what Nuge said seriously. I think the point he was trying to make was that he wouldn’t want to be living in this society if Obama was re-elected, that’s what he meant by, “I would either be dead or be in jail”. He didn’t exactly say that he was going to go out and assassinate him. Plus, it was his way of trying to get more people to support Mitt Romney. He was actually defending Mitt Romney. He was trying to turn off Obama supporters to get them to vote for Romney instead.

So he did whatever it took to get his point at people. There was a reason he spoke in that tone. If he said it in a more positive and kind manner, then his goal that he was trying to achieve failed. Remember what I said in a previous post before? Do whatever it takes to be successful at something even if it meant to be an asshole? That’s what Nuge is doing. He’s trying to help Romney get more voters, so he went after Obama.

He meant no harm. He wasn’t threatening. Secret Service won’t even do anything, and he won’t get arrested. Why? 1st Amendment, that’s why.

The only way for him to get arrested is that there must be enough evidence to see if he’s actually going to do it, assassinate the president. That’s why the Secret Service, wanted to question him. They’ll find him innocent, believe me.

I don’t think he’s going to retract his words, and I think he’s going to stand by the things he said. I wish people would learn to not take these guys seriously. Even if their thoughts are a little crazy, sure, they have the right to speak what they want.

I’ll write a blog saying why I don’t like Obama soon, maybe this weekend.

Thought: Why Adele, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry are the best thing going in the music industry today…

It’s VERY rare that I like pop artists. I can’t stand most pop music, but I would like very few of them. As some of you know, I’m mostly into rock and roll & metal. Stuff that aren’t too commercial and mainstream. However, I am a huge fan of Adele, Gaga and Katy Perry. Why?

Not only that these women are great singers, and songwriters, I also admire the way they express themselves. I dig their music ’cause their music is rock n’ roll in some way or another. I don’t consider these three artists guilty pleasures either. I really do like their music like a real fan. I own CD’s by all three: Adele, Gaga and Perry.

They are the true Divas of today’s generation. They have what it takes to make the industry, stronger and better. Plus, they write songs with heart and passion. They write amazing and powerful songs. To those that don’t like any of them, just won’t admit that they are great.

These women are the future of music and they’re not going away, anytime soon. If these women weren’t around, then the music business would fail. It’s too early to say, you can betcha they will become big legends 20 years from now. Future, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers? Absolutely!

All three of these women write pretty real and honest songs. They write songs that everyone can relate to. Plus, they are so much fun to listen to and I get chills hearing their music. I would love to see all three of these artists perform live if they ever come around here on tour. Hopefully at least one of them will play a concert here. I think I would love to see Adele live more than the other two.
