IDW Publishing has teamed up with Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions to publish a limited four-issue comic book series with the story taken place before the new “Star Trek” movie happens. They explain that the comics will be a like a countdown type of thing before the new “Star Trek” film directed by J.J. Abrams hitting theaters everywhere May 8th of 2009. The first of the comic book series “Star Trek: Countdown #1” will be published and released in bookstores everywhere in January 2009.

The comic book series will be about a combination of both the original Star Trek and “The Next Generation” characters on how they will be passing the torch to the new movie of the younger cast.

Interesting. I’ll have to pick up the first comic when it comes out.

Another thing about the new “Star Trek” film by JJ Abrams, I wonder what their premiere red carpet showing would be like. I wonder if the actors from the original Star Trek cast and actors from The Next Generation will show up at the “Star Trek” premiere in May.

We all know the original cast will show at the “Star Trek” premiere, but I wonder if we’ll get an appearance of Patrict Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Levar Burton, etc. at JJ’s “Star Trek” premiere as well. We’ll just have to wait to see what cast members will show up. 🙂 I’m sure William Shatner will be at the premiere, no doubt. Of course, Leonard Nimoy will be there ’cause Leonard is in the new “Star Trek” film as the adult Spock.

Just finished watching “The Incredible Hulk”…

So I finally got around to watching “The Incredible Hulk” movie on DVD this afternoon, the new 2008 Hulk film that stars Edward Norton. This is not really a full review, this just a quick thought. I really enjoyed it. Definitely much better than Ang Lee’s version of “Hulk” released in 2003. Ang Lee’s version of the “Hulk” was more like the comic books, “The Incredible Hulk” directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Ed Norton was more like the TV series. Of course, the new “Incredible Hulk” film included cameos of Stan Lee and Lou Farrigno. What Marvel comic movie Stan Lee isn’t in? He’s pretty much in all of ’em. Surprising cameo appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in the film, and I’m like, here’s the beggining of the Avengers!!!

“The Incredible Hulk” isn’t the best superhero movie ever, but it was fun and entertaining. It is reccomended to check out for yourself if you enjoy superhero flicks.

I discovered that my DVD player isn’t working anymore so I just played the DVD on my PS3 system. I’ll have to trash my DVD player and just use the PS3 to play DVD movies on. Yep, the PS3 plays both DVD and Blu Ray. The PS3 is an amazing little system.

Actor Warren Beatty who played the iconic character “Dick Tracy” the 1990 hit film which he starred in and directed himself, is suing the Tribune Co. so he can keep the rights to this famous fictional character. Confirmed: Will Smith and Steven Spielberg teaming up for “Oldboy” official!!!

As reported earlier, Will Smith and Steven Spielberg, two movie giants were in talks of teaming up to remake “Oldboy”. MTV Movies Blog confirmed the news that it is now official that they are teaming up. It is actually going to happen. Will Smith doing his first film with the legendary Spielberg. One thing though, that Will Smith himself points out that Spielberg’s version is NOT a remake of the 2003 Korean version. Spielberg’s version will be strictly adapted from the original comics.

Film Review: Twilight

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart

Directed by: Catherine Hardwicke

Just got back from seeing the movie “Twilight” the movie adapted from the book by author Stephenie Meyer. The movie does pretty much follow the same story as the novel does.

Story centers around a young Bella Swan moving into Forks, Washington with her father Charlie. There she goes to a new high school where she meets new friends and where she runs into Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen was a loner who didn’t want to talk to anyone but until he met Bella, he changed. As their friendship grows, they fall in love with each other after Bella finding out what Edward Cullen really is, a vampire. Edward is a good vampire, not an evil one. While in Forks, Edward invites Bella to play a game of baseball with his vampire family. Suddenly, the Cullens run into some evil when a vampire named James who is a tracker vampire decides to hunt Bella for sport. Edward and the rest of the Cullens team up to try and save Bella’s life.

My thoughts on the movie? I was surprised by it. It turned out to be a good one. Nothing excellent or nothing amazing, but the movie itself was fun and entertaining. That’s all it is. Just a fun and entertaining movie. What I like about the film is how the film is full of unknown actors. Basically the entire cast, you don’t even know who these actors are. There is not one big name star in the film.

As I said before, the film had something for everyone in it. Romance, drama, even a little comedy, horror and violent action scenes. The movie starts to get pretty violent toward the end of the movie, and there is even “mild” blood and gore as well. Nothing gross out that’ll make your stomach turn or nothing like that, but there is blood in the movie.

Stephenie Meyer the author herself, makes a tiny cameo appearance in the film. I won’t say where she is in the film but she is in there somewhere. I recognized her right away and was like, there she is right there.

I was impressed by Robert Pattinson’s acting in the film, he played the Edward Cullen character real good. Nothing Oscar worthy or anything like that, but his acting was something special. His acting made you kept glued to him everytime he appeared on screen. The dark cinematography was great. The acting of a teenage cast, they didn’t make this feel like a teenage movie, their acting skills was actually very maturing.

As far as the audience turn out goes, yes, there were a bunch of teenage girls in the theater that I was in, but there were guys around my age sitting by themselves watching the movie too. There were actually people in various ages of the theater I was in. The film is for everyone. You can’t immediately assume that the “Twilight” series is for teenage girls only when it isn’t true at all. I believe the series goal is to fit along the lines of “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings”, and “Chronicles of Narnia”.

People should stop making fun of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” series. She deserves the respect because she is bringing the horror genre to the younger generation. Whether you hate the Twilight series or love it, respect Stephenie Meyer for the work. There is too many fantasy and family oriented fiction for young adults but never anything in the horror genre. This is why Stephenie Meyer is huge in the media for this. The horror genre over the years was mostly aimed at adults, but Stephenie Meyer wanted to bring the genre to young adults. It’s that easy to understand why she’s so popular. It’s not because of the teen romance thing, it’s how she’s bringing the horror genre into kids lives. I enjoy the storytelling in the “Twilight” series.

The “Twilight” film is real good. I enjoyed it. Check it out. If you’re too embarrassed to see it in theater like a pussy (it ain’t like you’re seeing a porn or anything), wait for DVD if that works for you.

Score for “Twilight” = *** (3 stars as in “good”)

Report: Jason Bourne to become the next James Bond? Universal Studios scores rights to Matt Damon’s iconic character…

Universal Pictures has made an overall deal with author Robert Ludlum that gives them the right to make any Jason Bourne movie based on his books and gives them the right to make films on his other novels too. Ludlum Entertainment gave Universal the go ahead to continue the Jason Bourne saga.

The series was originally supposed to be a three part trilogy but since the “Bourne Ultimatum’s” huge success, they decided to get right to work on a fourth installment. The 4th Bourne will be an original story, it won’t be adapted from one of Ludlum’s novels. Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are still on board for a 4th Bourne, the film is confirmed for a summer of 2010 release.

Although there are only 6 novels in the Jason Bourne series written by Ludlum, Universal feels they can keep the stories going.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117996277.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

What do you think? You think Jason Bourne can take the spotlight of James Bond in the future? Universal wants to keep Jason Bourne going forever. Matt Damon can’t play the character forever so obviously there will be different actors playing the character whenever Damon hangs it up.

While I did like “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy”, those are good movies, I think “The Bourne Ultimatum” is the best of the three. It’s very rare to me when I think a third sequel of a trilogy is the best of the three. “The Bourne Ultimatum” is an amazing action flick, such a thrill ride with incredible action sequences throughout the entire film, non stop.

I hope the 4th Bourne will be even more action packed.

I will see “Twilight” Friday afternoon…

“Twilight” film finally comes out this Friday. I will go to the Wilton Mall to see it Friday afternoon on opening day.

While I’m sure there will be a bunch of teenage girls in line waiting to see the movie, I don’t care. As I always say, I don’t care what age limits the films are aimed at. I’ll go see any film that grabs my attention. No matter what genre and no matter what kind of film it is. If other people make fun of me for getting into stuff like this, I don’t care about that either. I like what I want.

I will post a review of this film. It’ll probably end up being a good film and I hope the film stays true to the novel and doesn’t change the story. The Twilight series is not just a teen romance, it has everything for everyone in it: romance, drama, horror, even violent action scenes, etc. The movie will be fun and enjoyable.

For you fathers out there who have teenagers as your kids, take your kids with ya to see this film. Even all the dads out there would probably like it. So far, the critics are giving the film positive reviews. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
