Report: Soundgarden reunite, but without Chris Cornell…

You thought a Soundgarden reunion would never ever ever happen, but it surprisingly did!!! Tom Morello gave us a surprise at his solo gig at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle, Washington, by reuniting the original members of Soundgarden to perform on stage but without Chris Cornell being the frontman. The rest of the guys in Soundgarden were there: Kim Thayill, Ben Sheperd, and Matt Cameron. Tom Morello joined Soundgarden on rhythym guitar. Some guy by the name of Tad Doyle was fronting Soundgarden that night.

Is this a sign that Soundgarden would come back to the music industry for a world tour and new album but without Chris? Sure, why not! I’d say go for it!

See a video of the reunited Soundgarden performing at the Crocodile Cafe below. Enjoy.

I will be seeing Phish at SPAC Aug. 16th!!!

Yep, you heard that right. Just ordered tickets to see Phish at SPAC before they even went on sale! I ordered inside tickets for it. So I’m definitely going! Getting psyched for the concert.

I don’t own a single CD by Phish, but I’m going to start getting some. I’ve heard Phish’s music lots of times before, but honestly, it’s much better seeing them live than hearing them on CD. I’ve seen Phish already once before and their shows are such a blast. How did I get them before they went on sale? I know someone that works for SPAC in Saratoga Springs.

Going to be a great time. I also want to see Billy Joel and Elton John at the Times Union Center but the tickets to that one will be pretty pricey, I definitely want to see Metallica in Albany in the Fall though.

I don’t go to national concerts much anymore, but when an artist comes around here that I admire, I’ll definitely go. The Phish shows are worth going to and worth the money for sure. Looking forward to the show! Can’t wait!

I’m glad Trey agreed to have Phish for Saratoga Springs. I remember him saying that Trey promised us a Phish concert after he completed drug rehab here in the Capital Region. Trey lived in Saratoga Springs during his rehab here, so I can see why he would want to play here.

Report: David Bowie to release Vh1 Storytellers performance on CD/DVD July 6th!!!

This is not quite a new album by David Bowie yet, but close enough. I guess you can call it, “new and old” by Bowie. Bowie will be releasing for the first time, his old Vh1 Storytellers performance recorded back in 1999 on July 6th of this year!!! It will be released in CD/DVD format.

As a huge fan and admirer of David Bowie, I’m very excited for this and I’m definitely picking this up!

Report: Jimmy Chamberlin writes blog on why he left the Smashing Pumpkins…

Jimmy Chamberlin wrote an honest blog on his own website, explaining why he quit the Smashing Pumpkins, after the news hit the web. He admits that he can’t put all of his energy into the music of the Smashing Pumpkins anymore. Sounds like he doesn’t have appreciation and lost interest with the music of the Pumpkins. He has no negative grudge with Billy Corgan, he says he gets along with him fine.

Jimmy says, he will continue to make music with his own band, the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex and he will pursue other musical projects as well. Sounds like he was getting bored in the Pumpkins and wanted to pursue other musical adventures.

Jimmy is right, that it’s Billy Corgan’s right to continue on with the Smashing Pumpkins name without Jimmy. It’s Billy’s band, Billy owns the copyright name to the Smashing Pumpkins, so he does what he pleases with it. The Pumpkins had different band members over the years, happens all the time with all bands.

Report: Metallica announces Fall North American tour, and yes, they are coming to Albany, N.Y. in November!!!!

It’s very rare that Metallica comes around here in the Capital District area. They unleashed their Fall North American tour, and they have the Times Union Center in Albany,  N.Y. listed for November 12th.

That’s another concert that I think I’m going to go to.

I usually don’t go to national concerts anymore….but there are two national shows I’m looking forward to seeing this year. Phish at SPAC and Metallica at the Times Union Center. Look like I’ll be getting tickets to both.

Report: Chris Cornell defends his new album, “Scream”…

Chris Cornell is getting so much negative heat on his new album “Scream”, which is an R&B and electronic influenced album which is produced by Timbaland. Chris claims it’s mostly the older Soundgarden fans that are shitting on the album. They don’t like him going the distance from the hard rock and metal genre that Chris usually does.

Then he goes on saying, he’s just doing whatever makes him happy, that he needs to discover new things and go in different worlds when it comes to making music. Meaning that he doesn’t want to stay in one genre, all the time.

I agree. Chris brings up a good point. Musicians do get bored playing the same genre all the time. It don’t hurt to mix it all up a bit.

I haven’t even heard his new album, “Scream”, yet, but maybe I will pick it up sometime and check it out.

Chris is aiming for a younger fanbase, and he’s doing a great job at it too.

I’ll be getting “Guitar Hero: Metallica” at the end of this month!

The reason I haven’t started “Resident Evil 5” yet is because I’ve been playing “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” quite a lot. Just to try and get good at the game before I get, “Guitar Hero: Metallica”.

I’m real excited for “Guitar Hero: Metallica” ’cause that game has a very impressive selection of songs. A better selection than any Guitar Hero game in the past. The boys in Metallica did a very good job choosing the songs for the game. I’m sure it will be entertaining to play.

I enjoy Guitar Hero. Whenever I get tired of playing long hours of action/adventure games, I’ll want to play something fun and challenging instead like Guitar Hero or something.

I know musicians hate the Guitar Hero franchise but hey, it’s just a fuckin’ game, that’s all it is. You should respect it because it gets people off of violent games and gets their mind on the music. I think Guitar Hero is a great franchise and a wonderful thing for the music industry.

Sure, musicians would rather play the real thing instead of a plastic toy, but hey, you should take a break from the real thing, get some kids together or family and just play Guitar Hero with other people. You will find it a lot of fun.

I don’t like it when musicians bash the Guitar Hero franchise. The famous bands that have songs on this game, they obviously love the game ’cause they wouldn’t be on it if they hated it. The famous bands and musicians like Metallica, Aerosmith and Slash…they all defended the Guitar Hero franchise and do a great job at it too.

I enjoy playing Guitar Hero because it actually makes you feel part of the song when you put that little plastic guitar in your hands and play along with it. Musicians may not think that, but it’s true. It’s not just for kids only, it’s really made for the entire family. A family friendly game.

Guitar Hero is great. The franchise will always be huge and they will never die.

Report: Jason Newsted might play with Metallica on stage at Hall of Fame…

Kirk Hammett says, not only that Jason Newsted will be able to be part of the induction, he may also be able to reunite with the band on stage for one night only. Jason might play bass for a song at the Hall of Fame with Metallica.

More on it here:

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=116567

I wonder why Metallica picked Flea to induct? That’s kind of a weird choice. What no Dave Grohl, no Lemmy Kilmister or Kerry King of Slayer to induct the band? Why Flea? I’m sure the band Metallica will explain their decision on Flea soon.

Like it said an earlier report, Metallica tried asking Dave Mustaine to join them on stage at the Hall of Fame, but Dave declined the offer due to a major Megadeth tour and recording in the studio for new album, although Dave was flattered he was asked.

Report: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves the Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan records new album by himself…

The longtime Smashing Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, has left the band…again. Billy Corgan will continue to write music under the Smashing Pumpkins name, but he will record the new album by himself with no other musicians involved.

Billboard reports:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/smashing-pumpkins-sheds-chamberlin-billy-1003953891.story

To those who aren’t musicians and don’t know much about music, you ask, “How does a musician record a whole album by himself?” Well it’s easy. Billy plays all instruments, not just guitar, you gotta love the magic of studio. You can record as many tracks as you want and mix ’em together to make ’em sound like a full band. He’s recording the next Smashing Pumpkins album as a one man band kind of thing. Using MIDI instruments and ProTools is also a good tool for doing music by yourself.

When recording in the studio, songwriters don’t really need a live band, they have a choice to be a one man band or play with other musicians to make it sound live.
