Report: Rollingstone magazine to shrink…

Jann Wenner the longtime editor in chief for Rollingstone magazine plans to make it shrink to a regular magazine size. For over 40 years the magazine has been in business, the magazine is known for it’s large and wide size. Jann feels that time is over.

The smaller size of Rollingstone will hit newstands Oct. 17th.

More on it here:

That’s a good thing they are doing! It’s about damn time too! I always hated that large size and it’s hard to read the magazine like that. Now the sentences and paragraphing in the magazine won’t be so wide, lol. The smaller magazine will make it much easier to read. Kudos, I like that idea.

The Listening Room: Metallica debuts new song “Cyanide” at Ozzfest 2008…

Metallica played Ozzfest 2008 this year, the Ozzfest festival was for only one day this time around and it happend August 9th. Metallica threw out one of their new songs from “Death Magnetic” to debut at this year’s Ozzfest, you can hear it and see the band in great quality too. Report: Trey Anastasio unveils new songs at comeback solo show in Brooklyn…

Look like Trey Anastasio has been writing new songs for a new solo album while he was here in the Capital District area for his drug treatment program. He must be cleared of the law now since he is going out of the area performing gigs.

Trey Anastasio played his first solo gig in a long time in Brooklyn, New York. He played a bunch of Phish favorites and he’s thrown in a lot of his new songs he’s been writing lately.

More on it here:

Thought: When bands gear get stolen…

When a famous band like Iggy and the Stooges or an unsigned band go on a long world tour and they get their gear stolen, the bands will immediately go online to ask information on where the gear is. Hoping to get the gear back after using the online world, thinking the online world will help a band get the gear back.

When bands do this, I usually just sit back and laugh. Do they really think the internet will be any of help? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Come on people! Quit being so delusional!

When thieves steal all of the bands gear from their band vehicles, they’ll have to get over the fact, that the gear will be gone for good. The bands are never going to get the gear back. What do you think the thieves are musicians and they stole the instruments and equipment for their own use? NO!

I’m sure they already soled them to music instruments stores for money, what else do thieves steal them for? It’s either more money for their own use or drug money. They trade the instruments in for drugs probably. I read reports that Iggy’s gear truck was found, but in the truck was completely empty, not one piece of his gear was inside of it.

Does a band honestly think they are going to get all that gear back? Plllleease. That’s a LOT of fuckin’ gear there!! I don’t think the thieves will ever be hunt down because they are good at these things without being caught. No one’s ever going to find out who the thieves are, it’s going to be tough to find out.

Do you honestly think the thieves will come out and give the gear back to the band after several online posts? LOL! Sure, I’d be upset and pissed off too if my gear and instruments got stolen at a gig, but I don’t think I’ll call the police to try and get it back because that stuff can be easily replaceable.

Who cares about the gear. There are better things in life to worry about. Iggy and the Stooges are rich people, they can easily replace the gear in no time. The thieves only steal things when the owner of the valuables are not around, so you’re never going to find out who they are. Sorry but that’s the truth you’ll have to learn.

I predict the Stooges will never find out who the thieves are and where their gear went. The only way to find out who the thieves are, if the thieves gives up, comes forward and turn themselves in. That is pretty unlikely that’ll happen.

Report: Metallica gets own XM Radio station…

Metallica announced on the band’s official website that they just got their own XM Sattelite radio for a little while. During August 16th through September 30th on XM 51 you will get to hear all Metallica, all the time 24/7!!!! They will be playing nothing but Metallica songs from all Metallica albums including the new one “Death Magnetic”! The name of the station is called “Mandatory Metallica”. They won’t have this station forever, only for over a month. There will also be live concert recordings being aired and there will be live interviews by each band member.

So for those who own monthly subscriptions to XM Radio, enjoy this while you can:

XM Radio is very cool. I want to get one someday and it’s definitely much better than FM radio over here.

Report: Sugarland founder sues current band members…

The popular country band Sugarland, is being sued by the band’s original founder and former bandmate, Kristen Hall who is the one who formed this group herself. She filed suit against this band for $1.5 million when she was promised she would get her share of profits even after she left the band back in 2005 to pursue a solo career. The current members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush has made an agreement with Kristen long ago to share any profits but she was never paid.

The band’s newest album, “Love on the Inside” hit no 1. in the Billboard beating Miley Cyrus in a short period of time after the single “All I Want To Do” became a mainstream success.

Billboard reports:

Kristen created the band, so she has every right to be doing this, so I’m with her on this one. If you own the band, you have every right to get profits shared. It doesn’t matter if you play in the band anymore or not.

Kristen should not have allowed the band to continue without her in the first place.

All I want to “Do do do do do Do do do do…”

Report: Ac/Dc invites fans to be in next music video…

Ac/Dc is inviting 150 fans to be casted in the next Ac/Dc music video. If you are in the London, UK area on August 15th, you’ll get the opportunity to be filmed in a music video if the band chooses you. My belief is that the band is looking for extras at a rock concert video setting to be in an audience. You not only get the opportunity to get filmed in a music video, I’m sure they’ll give you an opportunity to meet the band in person as well.

According to various music sources on the web, the song to this video will be a new single titled “Rock N’ Roll Train”, the single is set to debut on radio/TV stations August 28th. So mark your calendars that day so you can hear the new Ac/Dc song after all these years.

Do you live in the UK and want to be lucky? Fill this form here:

http://acdcrocks.com/ukcasting/

I’m looking forward to hearing the new song! I’ll be back home from San Diego on Aug. 28th so I’ll be able to hear the song when I get back from vacation.

I’m sure that song will get leaked online before it’s scheduled to come out.

Report: The Police play final gig in NYC at Madison Square Garden Aug. 7th…

The Police – Sting, Andy Summers, and Stu Copeland played their final and last gig ever at NYC in Madison Square Garden Aug. 7th. The band played a sky rocketing 151 shows and the band made more than $358 million playing those shows.

The band played most of their usual hit songs that everyone knows such as “Message In A Bottle”, “Everybreathe You Take”, “Roxanne”, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and plenty more but the band threw in a few surprising cover songs such as Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love”.

Sting invited his young daughters to the stage to dance along with their father during “Every Little Thing She Does…”. During the band’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”, during the guitar solo of that song, Sting went backstage and a video screen appeared with Sting getting his beard shaved. Sting then came back out on stage, clean shaven.

When the band closed off their set, the three of the band member stood next to each other and gave the audience one final bow, hugged, and runned around on stage while the Fat Lady sang. A Looney Tunes song “That’s all folks” played as the band walked off stage.

The setlist for Madison Square Garden August 7th:

“Sunshine of Your Love”
“Message in a Bottle”
“Walking on the Moon”
“Demolition Man”
“Voices Inside My Head” / “When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around”
“Don’t Stand So Close to Me”
“Driven To Tears”
“Hole in My Life”
“Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
“Wrapped Around Your Finger”
“De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”
“Invisible Sun”
“Can’t Stand Losing You” / “Reggatta de Blanc”

Encore one:
“Purple Haze”
“Roxanne”
“King of Pain”
“So Lonely”
“Every Breath You Take”

Encore two”
“Next To You”

The Police will also release this concert to CD/DVD which Best Buy scored the right to exclusively sell it through, that way for the fans who didn’t go will still get to experience the final concert. It will be released this year on Oct. 7th.

Billboard reports:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003836921

Sounds like a good show, I’ll buy the live CD/DVD when it hits stores.

Now Sting will probably go back to his solo career and release a new solo album after this.
