When will Johnny Depp ever start a full time music career?

We all know that iconic actor, Johnny Depp, is a musician. He’s a guitar player and singer himself. We see Johnny on and off in the music industry. He mostly focuses on his full time movie career instead.

Will Johnny Depp ever come out with his first album? Maybe even tour? I’m sure he will at some point, but I would think he didn’t start a career in music yet ’cause he just does it for fun. Music is his second passion other than acting.

Maybe when Johnny retires from film, he’ll start a music career then. I’m sure he will release his first solo album someday, just give it time.

Cool Video: Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” trailer is finally here, and I’m dissapointed!!!

Yesterday, Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” with Johnny Depp starring as Barnabus Collins, finally dropped.

Yep. I think I’m done with Tim Burton. Had it with him. The guy hasn’t made a good movie in a long time anyway, and he hasn’t done anything original lately either. He’s been doing too many remakes recently.

I was hoping, “Dark Shadows”, would be very much like the classic TV series. I used to watch, “Dark Shadows”, all the time as a kid, obsessively. I believe Mr. Burton ruined, “Dark Shadows”. Just like he ruined, “Alice In Wonderland”, “Sleepy Hollow”, and “Charlie & The Chocolate Factory”.

He hasn’t made a great movie since “Mars Attacks” in 1996 (Yes, “Mars Attacks” was great).

Enjoy the trailer for “Dark Shadows” below, or not.

Netflix Pick: The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

So last night, for my Saturday night movie, I decided to check out “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus”. Another film I wanted to see that happened to be on Netflix streamable.

This is another excellent film that I was impressed with. I think it’s one of Terry Gilliam’s best films. Terry Gilliam is the man behind all the Monty Python flicks such as “Monty Python and the Holy Grail’, “Monty Python and the Life of Brian”, he also did, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen”, “Twelve Monkeys” and “Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas”.

The story of “Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” takes place in London, England, where Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) would show an audience a sideshow troupe where he would take them to a journey into the “Imaginarium” which makes dreams come true. Parnassus tells a story to his daughter Valentina, Percy the midget and Anton that Parnassus is immortal and he has lived for a thousand years. He fell in love with a mortal woman, made a deal with the devil, trading his immortality to the youth. As part of the bargain, he promised his son or daughter to Mr. Nick on their sixteenth birthday. Valentina is now almost to the doomed age and Doctor Parnassus makes a new bet with Mr. Nick, whoever seduces five souls in the Imaginarium will have Valentina as a prize. Meanwhile the troupe rescues Tony, a young man that was hanged on a bridge by the Russians. Tony was chased until he finds and joins the group.

While the plot is very strange and a little confusing, I thought this a very well made movie. It was fun. It had great performances but I was most impressed with the style of the movie. It was very visual and creative. Different.

Some of you may or may not know that this was Heath Ledger’s final film before his death. He only had a small role in this film but it was an excellent performance, of course. Heath was originally supposed to star throughout the entire film but he obviously died around the time the movie was still filming. So Terry Gilliam hired three actors to take over the role of Tony which were: Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. All three of those actors did a great job playing Tony, but of course, they couldn’t top Heath’s performance in the role.

The film had some unique costumes, and unique cinematography I’ve never seen before. This is a very different Terry Gilliam movie than all the others. You all know how some of his movies can be weird. The guy has a strange imagination when it comes to storytelling. Terry wrote and directed most of his movies so all of this is his creation. He’s quite an interesting guy.

If you like Terry Gilliam flicks, this is one worth checking out.

Report: Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp to finally star in a movie together???

Two of Hollywood’s biggest movie icons in the world, Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp, have never starred in a movie together, ever. I don’t think? If they already did one, correct me. I’m pretty sure they never collaborated. A Hanks and Depp team up may actually happen. Thanks to Kathryn Bigelow, who is moving forward with her movie about, Argentina, currently titled, “Triple Frontier”. Tom Hanks is already signed to the leading role. Depp is currently in negotiations with Kathryn, to star alongside with Tom. It is another mobster movie, set in Argentina. See the full article here at, Deadline.

Hopefully, Depp would say yes to this project ’cause I’ve always wanted a Depp and Hanks team up. This sounds like it’s going to be another violent action movie for Kathryn. Is Tom about to go violent again like he did to, “The Road to Perdition”? Sounds like it. “Triple Frontier” sounds interesting. Kathryn is a great film maker as I thought, “The Hurt Locker” was one amazing flick.

Film Review: Alice in Wonderland

Starring: Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter,  Crispin Glover, Anne Hathaway

Directed by: Tim Burton

I know I’m a few days late on this review, but earlier this week, which was last Tuesday, I did go see the movie, Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland”. Before that I went to Best Buy and picked up the new “God of War III” video game. I’m not going to start “God of War III” right away ’cause I need to finish the first two games first. I’m still at the end of “God of War I”.

Now lets get on with the review:

Plot/Synopsis: Tim Burton decided to do his take on the famous Lewis Carroll novel, “Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland”, which is a famous children’s novel that I loved ever since I was a kid. The plot and story is pretty much the same idea, but Tim Burton’s version is just a little bit different than so many other versions of “Alice” we’ve seen over the years. Yep, same thing, Alice discovers another world where the White Rabbit takes her and she meets all these strange characters such as the Caterpillar, Chesire the Cat, The Mad Hatter, etc. Except the only difference, that Alice doesn’t dress up in armor, and getting a sword to actually fight the Jabberwocky in the novel, but I can understand why Burton threw that in there ’cause I guess he wanted to match the idea with the poem that was written about the Jabberwocky, that was actually taken from the novel. This isn’t really a spoiler since the trailers already showed Alice in armor with a sword.

I’ll be honest, that I usually hate Johnny Depp and Tim Burton collaborations. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of these guys, but when they work together on a film, I have no interest. Their work is so overrated and too mainstream, that I get sick of these guys working together all the time. I never really wanted to see this version of “Alice In Wonderland”, but I was kind of talked into seeing it…but since I’m a huge fan of the Lewis Carroll novel which is a book that I love, I decided what the hell, I’ll go see it to see if I like it or not.

A lot of people were shitting on this movie. Saying how bad it was, giving the movie mixed reviews. Not many people I’ve seen online giving it positive reviews. When I went and saw it, you wonder what my thoughts are?

Well, here’s the answer…..scroll down a bit…

I FUCKING LOVED IT!!! 🙂 Really, I was that surprised by the film. Were the negative critics watching the same movie? I thought the film was fucking brilliant! It’s exactly what a live action “Alice” movie should be! Tim Burton really did his homework to make the movie right. He must of studied the novel and seen all the earlier remakes. Burton didn’t want to fuck around and make the right version of “Alice”. This is probably the best version. The Visuals were just perfect. The way it was supposed to be from the novel. The humor is there as the book had a lot of humor in it. It had a lot of dark themes and adventure in the film just like the novel. The acting wasn’t that bad, but I thought the writing of the script was well written. Special effects and cinematography is what the film needed to get the look in  your head of what the novel is supposed to be like.

I thought Crispin Glover was a badass as the Knave of Hearts, he was my favorite character from the film. I guess Johnny Depp was the right fit for the Mad Hatter. Helena Bonham Carter did great voicing the Red Queen as she sounded evil and it made you want to hate her every time you saw her on screen.

It was a very entertaining film. Definitely thumbs up for this one.

Score for “Alice in Wonderland” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

RIP Johnny Depp??? Is he dead or just a hoax???

Damn. Rumours hit the nets pretty hard that Johnny Depp died in a tragic car crash in France. Due to what? Drinking and driving. The crash was real but nothing has been confirmed if Johnny is dead or alive. Like everyone else, I hope this rumour is fake. If it was true, TMZ would have confirmed it right away. I’m sure TMZ is looking into it now. Lets hope it’s not true. I’m sure it isn’t ’cause Johnny has been one of my favorite actors for years. It would be a huge loss for the movie industry if it turns out to be real.

Kev

Edit to add: The rumour was started bya fake CNN article in an Angelfire domain name and it was posted in Twitter. People say Johnny is still alive and well, but we’ll know for sure when Johnny himself would let us know. I’m sure he would come out to squash this rumour quickly, he probably will later today.

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i will be the location for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth installment of the highly successful Walt Disney Pictures’ action adventure film series starring Johnny Depp, according to a news release Monday from the governor’s office.

The Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger met with Gov. Linda Lingle on Friday to share the news that the islands of Kaua‘i and O‘ahu will be sites for the production of the feature film, which will begin shooting this summer and is slated to be released in summer 2011.

The production is expected to generate an estimated $85 million in direct and indirect spending in Hawai‘i, providing a needed economic boost for the state’s economy as well as creating hundreds of jobs for local residents, the release states.

“Disney’s long-term commitment to Hawai‘i — from ABC’s ‘LOST’ to the new Disney resort on O‘ahu scheduled to open in 2011, and now the upcoming filming of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ — is a testament to the company’s confidence in our state as a great place to do business,“ Lingle said.

“The Walt Disney Company has a great relationship with Hawai‘i that we’re looking forward to building upon with the filming of the latest adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew,” said Iger.

“We’ve always sought out the most extraordinary and exotic locations for the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “and previously shot briefly on both Maui and Moloka‘i for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.’ Hawai‘i provides an amazing range of both land and seascapes, and we’re delighted to return for ‘On Stranger Tides.’”

The state’s Creative Industries Division and the Hawai‘i Film Office, which are housed in the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, began working with Disney last year and organized a series of meetings and conference calls to help secure the business.

Georja Skinner, the state’s Creative Industries Division administrator who oversees operations of the Hawai‘i Film Office, worked collaboratively with the governor’s office, Department of Taxation and Tourism Liaison Marsha Wienert, along with Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau, Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, the Kaua‘i Film Office, the City and County’s Honolulu Film Office, The Resort Group, Ko Olina Resort and Disney Vacation Club to help secure “Pirates of the Caribbean” for Hawai‘i.

“Hawai‘i competes on a global basis for productions and to have Disney choose Hawai‘i over other states and countries is a huge win for us,” said Skinner. “Creative industries are by nature collaborative and what I think made a difference for us is the combination of our tax incentive as well as local film, travel and destination industry support.”

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” joins a list of feature film and television productions slated to film in Hawai‘i this year. Warner Bros. feature “Hereafter,” directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon, completed filming on Maui last week.

Pre-production is also beginning for the feature film “The Descendents,” starring George Clooney and directed by Academy Award-winning writer/director Alexander Payne. The film is based on the book by Hawai‘i resident Kau‘i Hart Hemmings. Several network pilots, as well as a Japanese drama series and a Korean drama series are also scouting Hawai‘i for projects this year.

Report: Tim Burton to work on “Dark Shadows” after he completes, “Alice In Wonderland”…

Tim Burton announced, he will get right to work on, “Dark Shadows” with Johnny Depp, after he completes, “Alice In Wonderland”. Johnny Depp is still set to play Barnabas Collins in “Dark Shadows”, the iconic vampire from the TV series. “Dark Shadows” was a low budget vampire soap opera that aired on TV back in the 70’s/80’s.

More on it here:

I’m a big “Dark Shadows” fan, so hopefully Burton/Depp will do a good job which I’m sure they will.
