Thought: Scarlett Johansson could be the first successful actor turned singer…

Lets see, the Bacon Brothers failed in music. Steven Segal failed in music. Billy Bob Thornton failed in music. The same goes for Russell Crowe and Bruce Willis who are also musicians. Has there ever been a successful hollywood actor turned musician in the music industry? I don’t think there ever was.

Scarlett’s upcoming album “Anywhere I Lay My Head” has been getting a lot of buzz lately. She sings Tom Waits songs on it. And you can betcha there’s going to be plenty of die hard Tom Waits fans out there that will be curious to hear her album. Her fans of her films will also buy it definitely and David Bowie fans also. So the album will definitely sell well.

I listened to that “Falling Down” track like over 10 times yesterday and couldn’t get over how great it was, the song sent chills down my spine. Scarlett does sing for real as she did a singing segment in her film “Lost in Translation” during the karoake scenes. I never really get all that excited for upcoming music albums, but I’m looking forward to picking this one up. I’m itching to hear more songs off that album now.

Report: Stone Temple Pilots plans to go back in studio after tour…

Stone Temple Pilots spoke with Billboard that they want to head back into the studio to record a new 6th Stone Temple Pilots album after their summer tour later this year. They also plan to release a DVD of that Houdini Estate show in Los Angeles where they had their reunion debut.

Billboard reports:

Sweet news. Hopefully the new STP record will be tight and heavy. Old school grungy STP.

Ac/Dc, STP, Metallica, and Guns N’ Roses coming out with albums this year.

We may get a rock revolution after all!

Report: Smashing Pumpkins “Zeit Geist” to be their final album?

Jimmy Chamberlin wrote on the Pumpkins official blog that the band will not record another album on CD. But he claims that the band will never break up and always will be making music, just not on CD’s you buy at the record stores. Sounds to me the band will release songs in mp3’s similar to what Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead has done.

From the Pumpkins blog:

http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/blog_3471

Don’t worry, Billy and Jimmy will release another Pumpkins CD down the road again although they claim they won’t.

NEW: Hear the first single off Scarlett Johansson’s new album “Anywhere I Lay My Head” featuring David Bowie NOW!!!!

You can hear the first radio single “Falling Down” that David Bowie duets with Scarlett Johansson for her debut album “Anywhere I Lay My Head” exclusively at AOL…

Listen to “Falling Down” here:

It’s a fantastic song. I absolutely love it and I’m looking forward to the album. It does have a Tom Waits vibe with Bjork mixed into it. I liked Scarlett’s vocals and the song is unique.

“Anywhere I Lay My Head” hits stores May 20th.

Enjoy. 🙂

Report: An old school experience for Metallica at Record Store day…

After days of hard touring and hours of recording in the studio for the new Metallica album, the boys in Metallica decided to take a day off from all that to have some fun meeting fans at a six hour autograph session at Record Store day.

The autograph session took place at Rasputin Music in Mountain View, California. The store used to be Tower Records. Obsessive Metallica fans camped out in the parking lot for days hoping to be the first in line to get the wrist bands to enter the store.

Hundreds of obsessive Metallica fans traveled there from across the states and from different countries just to meet the band in person. The band will even chat with fans for a while so they won’t feel like they just go there just to get an autograph. The band was willing to sign everything the fans wanting them to sign, they even posed pictures with fans. Weird fans came in looking like old school metal like the way it used to be in the 80’s. Seems like James, Kirk, Lars, and Rob were having the time of their lives and having a blast at that record store.

Metallica are even loved by children who are fans as you see in the link below, they posed photos with kids that were there.

Read the whole story here along with photos of the day:

Pretty cool, if I had the money, I would have flown down there to meet the band myself. Sounds like a fun time.

A few videos of that day below.

I’ll believe it when we actually see the damn thing on the shelves at the record stores.

Come on Axl, let America have our free Dr. Pepper!

Thought: My Top 10 Favorite Ac/Dc songs…

In celebration to the long awaited return for one of the greatest rock n’ roll band of all times, Ac/Dc, I figure I would name my top 10 favorite songs by the band and I’ll explain why too.

Here is the list:

  1. Thunderstruck – Simply one of their best tunes. The opening one string riff, the thumping and the “Thunder” chant, then the band ticks in, and blam. The song is on. I was never too crazy about Brian Johnson’s vocals that much but he sang this song beautifully. I always liked Ac/Dc for Angus and Malcolm’s playing mostly. “The Razor’s Edge” was one of my favorite albums of theirs.
  2. Hell’s Bells – One of the best songs on “Black In Black”. The sound of the bell, the arpeggiated opening riff, and once again, blam, the song is on and the band ticks in. Ac/Dc is good at that. Again, Brian Johnson’s vocals are great in this song.
  3. It’s A Long Way To the Top If You Wanna Rock N’ Roll –This song just makes you want to bop your head up and down throughout the entire thing. Bon Scott’s vocals are fun and catchy. The guitar riff is so bad ass. It’s such a great rock n’ roll tune. What’s cool is that Bon Scott plays the bagpipe in this tune.
  4. Highway To Hell – Another great song from the Bon Scott era. A very dark song, energetic and tight playing by Angus and Malcolm. A classic.
  5. For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) – Simply one of the baddest rock songs ever written. Such a great melody that makes you want to sing along to.
  6. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution –This has always been one of my favorite tunes off “Back in Black”, I’ll play this song to death, the riff catches on ya immediately right when the song starts, it’s a perfect song to end that album with.
  7. Stiff Upper Lip – One of their newest songs from the album title track. I always dug this tune ’cause it has a bluesy feel to it. You can dance to this one. Angus and Malcolm don’t use any heavy distortion, just clean guitars and a little overdrive. A great tune in my book.
  8. Moneytalks – Easily, a song that you can never get out of your head. Great guitar playing, awesome vocals by Brian Johnson. A really good rock song. You can definitely sing the chorus to this song all day long.
  9. T.N.T. – Simply such a bad ass song. One of my absolute favorites. Another tune makes you want to head bang to.
  10. Whole Lotta Rosie – A heavy rock song inspired by old school blues. Such a kick ass song all around.

The reason I love Ac/Dc so much is because they simply write killer songs. All of their music is so simple and basic, they’re more worried about writing catchy songs not worry about how technical their guitar playing is.

I’m looking forward to the new Ac/Dc record this year. I hope the new one don’t dissapoint.

Thought: Feeling much happier and better without myspace…

It’s been a few days since I dumped myspace music last Friday morning. Since then I have been feeling better and happier without it. Myspace is not good for your music at all, and those that think it is, are delusional than I thought. You know deep down inside that I’m right and telling the truth. Why obsess with myspace? There is nothing important about it to your music.

The reason all them unsigned artists/bands run their own accounts is because they are not famous. The famous musicians in a major label that do have “official” accounts do not run their own myspace. Because they are too famous enough to be in that website. Famous people don’t have time for the internet, they are too busy with their own careers. Famous musicians do use the internet like we all do, sure, but it’s very rarely they go online to surf the net, only when they are taking a break.

The truth is unsigned bands/artists who have their myspaces are people with no lives. Most of them pretend to be popular on that site, by adding everything randomly as they can. Most of them accounts in bands friendslists are not even their true fans, people who do not even associate with their music at all. People who just added the band for another friends count. Bands wasting time adding everything like adding other bands/artists randomly, adding supermodel women, celebrities, etc. Why do you think a lot of bands have at least 20,000 friends? People barely adds them the truth be told, they just waste a lot of time adding everything they can. Bands who are not really popular here in this area who pretend to be online (I know quite of few bands and artists in this area, I’m not naming names, who are not popular at all but they pretend to be in myspace), this is why I call some Capital District bands/artists fakes and posers, not naming names. It’s not just with Capital District music, it’s the same with all bands in myspace, pretending they’re popular in myspace when they really get “jack squat” for crowds at their live shows.

In my myspace music account, I liked to keep a low profile. I don’t go around adding everything I can ’cause it’s a waste of time plus, I wanted to see if some people out there truly enjoy my music for real that way and it does work. I’ve had come across some people in myspace that were true fans of my tunes. The thing with your music, you want to see if people out there truly love your tunes, not distract it by pretending that you’re popular.

There are other websites where I can promote my songs where people can listen and enjoy, I’ll find something has nothing to do with myspace. Any website that where you don’t go adding friends, or waiting for your e-mails to be read and replied, and stupid bullshit like that. Any website where you don’t go looking through everyone’s profile and keeping in touch with everyone.

I’ve always thought about launching a “protest” website to start a war against myspace of how that site is damaging the music industry but there’s gotta be enough myspace haters to do something like that though, so I’m not going to do that. There’s nothing slanderous or libelous for having an opinion on something. But don’t worry, one day down the road, the bands in myspace are going to realize that I’m right and they’ll leave the site to start the war on their own.

Myspace is not important. All it is just a little toy, just a play thing for people to drool over. I’ll keep my personal account and will use that but I won’t add anything randomly, I’ll only add people that I know, the true friends that want to keep in touch with me, and the local bands that I know well that I’ve seen at the shows. I’ll keep my personal profile at a low friends count, lower than a 100 friends. I won’t be in my myspace personal profile much though, I never have been in my personal page much and will remain the same. Myspace will keep adding more features just to keep people addicted, just to keep people on the site.

I will never go back there for music ever again. People can live their lives without myspace and they can live their lives without me there. I’ll be on other places on the net where my followers can drool over like my blog and stuff like that. You won’t miss me.

Report: Kid Rock wins another lawsuit dismissal…

I’ve said it once before and will say it again, if you’re Kid Rock, you can win against anything. Kid Rock once again wins another lawsuit dismissal. A 29 year old woman named Kelly Ann Kozlowski filed lawsuit against the rap country rocker accusing him of shoving her in the snowbank when she said “no” to sleeping with him. She called police but police did not press charges, so she filed lawsuit.

Kid Rock’s side of the story was different. Kid Rock invited the Kozlowski woman into the studio as a guest (not for sex) but Kid Rock kicked the woman out after she got rowdy and she was drunk that night. He never attacked her.

The judge dismissed the lawsuit after learning that Kid Rock was out of town promoting his new album or busy performing concerts that he is not able to testify in court.

More on it here:

http://www.eonline.com/news/article/index.jsp?uuid=add96ab0-f822-4be5-a415-6a06da724e09

My question is, why is Kid Rock such an easy target in getting sued all the time or getting into fights? There is nothing wrong with Kid Rock. He is just an innocent man that just wants to play his music that he always enjoyed doing.

I think people wants to attack him out of jealousy ’cause he was once married to Pam Anderson.
