Report: Sam Raimi dying to get Hilary Swank for a role in “Oz: the Great & Powerful”…

This is an interesting story, I gotta post this. Sam Raimi is dying to get two time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank, as one of the elder witches for “Oz: The Great & Powerful”, but Disney disagrees with that casting and they want Michelle Williams instead. Sam is still fighting back at Disney trying to get Hilary for the film.

This isn’t the first time that Sam fought for a certain actor he wanted for a movie, because it was him that wanted Tobey Maguire for “Spiderman” and Columbia Pictures wanted Wes Bently originally. Sam won the fight against Columbia and he got Tobey Maguire for Spiderman.

So maybe Sam has a chance in being successful in winning Hilary for the “Oz” film?

Read more on it, here.

I take it that Sam might have a short temper problem. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he’ll beg for it until they say yes. I agree Hilary would be a great pick, she’s a phenomenal actress and one of my favorites. She would make a great witch.

Hope Disney does the smart thing and let Sam have Hilary. I’m sure Sam will win once again. If Disney doesn’t let him have her, then that makes them greedy douchebags. Kudos on Sam, fight on!

Report: Sam Raimi and Harry Osborn will reunite for “Oz: The Great and Powerful”…

While actor, James Franco, is busy preparing for this Sunday night’s Oscars with Anne Hathaway, Franco has signed on to “Oz: The Great & Powerful”, the prequel to “Wizard of Oz” directed by Sam Raimi. This will be the fourth time Raimi will work with Franco, as Franco played Harry Osborn, in the “Spiderman” trilogy.

James Franco’s latest film is “127 Hours” which is about the real life mountain man, Aron Ralston, who was trapped in a cliff.

Deadline, reports.

Great choice! I think Franco is a talented man. I would like him to get Best Actor award for “127 Hours” at the Oscars this Sunday, but it’s probably gonna go to Colin Firth.

Report: Sam Raimi will finally get right to work on “Oz: The Great and Powerful” next…

Sam Raimi is finally ready to start filming, “Oz: The Great and Powerful”. The former, “Spiderman” director has already let Disney know that he’s ready to film it very soon. They still hope Robert Downey Jr., will be up for the leading role as the Wizard and it’s looking like Downey will be up for the role.  See the article here at, Deadline.

Hmmmm, I still wonder if Sam’s take on “Wizard of Oz” will be dark or will it be a happy film for children or a little bit of both. There’s gotta be a reason why Disney wanted Sam Raimi for this ’cause maybe there is a lot of dark and horror fiction related material in the script?

BREAKING NEWS: Sam Raimi officially signs on to “Oz: The Great & Powerful”!!!! Robert Downey Jr. in talks to play the leading role…

Walt Disney studios wanted him, they GOT HIM! Well, look like Sam Raimi says yes, to the “Wizard of Oz” prequel after all ’cause he just signed his name on the contract, making it official.

Disney is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play, the Wizard of Oz, who was originally played by Frank Morgan. The film will be strictly about Oz. It will tell the story of how Oz landed in that area where Dorothy once visited, and how he became  a Wizard, and all that.

I’m sure Sam Raimi will talk to us more about his idea for the film. Will we see some of the original characters back? Definitely not Dorothy ’cause like I said it wouldn’t work. Maybe the return of the Wicked Witch of the West too? Will we see the return of the dancing and singing, Munchkins? Will the film be dark? Will it be family friendly for the kids? Lots of questions that need to be answered, Mr. Raimi! I’m sure will get answered soon.

Bruce Campbell, I’m sure will be involved with the film. Maybe he’ll have some kind of role in it, too? Hopefully. Sam and Bruce have been best friends for years. Bruce had a cameo role in almost every Sam Raimi flick.

Anyway, looking forward to this project ’cause this is sounding very interesting to me already!

Report: Sam Raimi in talks to direct “Wizard of Oz” prequel…

Now that Sam Raimi is done with Spiderman for good, what’s next for him now? He’s already signed on to “World of Warcraft” live action movie which will be adapted from the popular PC game. Now he is getting close to signing a deal to direct the “Wizard of Oz” prequel, “Oz, The Great and Powerful” by Disney. This one will tell a story of how the Wizard from the original film lands in Oz, the same area where Dorothy visited.

More on it here:

So you ask, is a “Wizard of Oz” prequel necessary? I would say, yes. There is more to that story to be told. If you think a prequel is ridiculous, you can create more stories with “Wizard of Oz” just as you can with “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”. There are plenty of other books that has done other stories based on “Wizard of Oz”. I would say, “Wicked” for starters, perfect example, the Broadway musical. The Sci-Fi channel has done plenty of “Wizard of Oz” stuff.

I wonder if we’re going to see the characters of the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man in the Sam Raimi version of “Oz”? Yep, I bet we’re probably going to see those characters again. We won’t see the return of Dorothy of course, ’cause Sam wouldn’t like the idea of Judy Garland being replaced. It can’t happen…but we might get a reference or two of Dorothy in the film, who knows.

I think Sam doing his take on “Oz” is an interesting idea, I’m all for it. I hope Sam signs to it. Oh yeah, wouldn’t it be badass if Bruce Campbell played the Wizard? You know Bruce would be involved with the film somehow, either leading role or cameo.

BREAKING NEWS: Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire both NOT doing Spidey 4!!!!!

Spidey 4, was in development ever since the 3rd one came out. Now it’s turning out that Sam Raimi the director and Tobey Maguire the film’s leading star, are both not doing it. Why? Simply because, Sam doesn’t like the script. He’s been battling the studios to re-write the script for a long while since he hated it so much. Since it looks like the studios refused to re-write the script, Raimi says, “To hell with it, you’re on your own”.

No reason why Tobey Maguire wants out, but my guess, is that he doesn’t want to work on a Spidey movie without Raimi. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios plan to re-boot the entire franchise, start it all over again.

This is great news actually. I never liked the Spidey movies to begin with. Now, hopefully Sam will finally start work on, “Evil Dead 4”? Here’s hoping. Crosses fingers!

Film Review: Drag Me To Hell

Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long

Directed by: Sam Raimi

Just got back from seeing the new Sam Raimi movie, “Drag Me To Hell” this afternoon. Sam Raimi returns to his roots, his classic comedy/horror genre into a new film. Here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: Alison Lohman plays a loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home. After learning that this woman is very strange and demonic, she learns that she is actually a monster called the Lamia where she can send Alison’s character to hell. For days, she has been tortured by this Lamia creature which it tries to send her to hell everytime but fails. Justin Long plays her characters boyfriend, while she seeks a promotion as manager at the loan office, she is being haunted by this Lamia demon with strange and evil things happening to her.

My thoughts on the film?

It totally felt like an “Evil Dead” remake, except this is a female version of Ash. A female version of Ash battling a bunch of demons. This movie wasn’t all that scary, although there were many jumps from the seat, I didn’t get jumped being scared one bit. I live my life watching horror films, so I’m used to watching them.

Sam Raimi kept the film low budget, Evil Dead old school style. Similar special effects and similar gore to the Evil Dead series. Similar humor too.

The film was alright, but it wasn’t anything special. I think Sam Raimi did a film like this as a test to see if he can still do horror films after years of doing work for Spiderman. The only thing I give “Drag Me To Hell” respect for, is that this proves that Sam Raimi is capable enough of making, Evil Dead 4.

I can easily see this film being “Evil Dead 4” with Bruce Campbell as Ash in the leading role, instead of Alison Lohman. Alison’s and Justin Long’s acting skills weren’t all that great. Sammy boy still has what it takes to do horror films though, that’s the only thing I give the film respect for.

It was an ok film. Nothing great, nothing amazing. I’ve seen better.

Score for “Drag Me To Hell” = ** (2 stars as in “ok”)

Report: Sam Raimi still wants to do “Evil Dead 4″….

This is so awesome that Sam Raimi is still interested in bringing the Evil Dead back to the big screen. Sam Raimi tells MTV News that he still wants to do it. He is dying to bring Evil Dead back to the big screen. He wants Ash back for one more film, get Bruce Campbell back on the chainsaw and the shotgun killing demons and zombies. He says he really wants to do it, but after he gets done promoting, “Drag Me to Hell”, he wants to do “Spiderman 4” first, and then he’ll think about another “Evil Dead” movie.

MTV Movies Blog reports:

I’ve always thought the Evil Dead trilogy deserved one last film to close out the series. I love the Evil Dead movies, all three of them. Yep, I even loved, “Army of Darkness”. “Army Of Darkness” may have bombed in the theater when it first came out, but if “Evil Dead 4” came to us, I’m sure it will be a box office smash if made right.

As long as Sam Raimi, keeps “Evil Dead 4” old school Evil Dead with low budget cameras and all that, it’ll work. I think, “Evil Dead 4” would be great and hope they do one last film. Bring on “Evil Dead 4”, I really want one!!! 🙂
