Report: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry laid to rest today…

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the first lady of Star Trek, has been laid to rest today. She was laid to rest at a Los Angeles cemetery. The funeral service was open to the public. It was even opened for Star Trek fans, yes, many of the Star Trek fans showed up wearing Star Trek uniforms, pins, and other clothing you see in the series. Some cast members of Star Trek showed up as well. Star Trek veterans, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, and George Takei were there to mourn their friend. There was no sign of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy being there.

More on it here:

Isn’t it amazing that so many die hard Star Trek fans all over the country travelled all the way to L.A. to support a famous person they don’t even know? At a funeral? As a die hard Trekkie myself, I couldn’t even attend the funeral ’cause it would be too emotional for me. Yes, I probably would have cried if I attended the funeral. This moment is almost like Spock dying in “Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan” but this is obviously real life.

RIP Majel, such a sad loss. We shall celebrate her work with the Star Trek computer for one last time when we see JJ Abrams new film.

Such a huge loss in the Star Trek community. As a huge Star Trek junkie myself, I’m sad of her death too.

I remember when Deforest Kelly died in 1999, and he is still missed as well. I think Deforest would be proud of JJ’s new “Star Trek” film.

RIP: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry 1932 – 2008

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, has passed away due to leukemia, she was 76. She died at her home in Bel-Air, California where she was surrounded by family and friends. She was known as “The First Lady Of Star Trek” since she was married to Gene Roddenberry.

She has done voice over work for the Star Trek computers in the original Star Trek, The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and most of the Star Trek movies. She recently did voice over work as the Star Trek computer for J.J. Abrams new “Star Trek” movie as well.

Other than doing her voice over work for the Star Trek computer, she had an on screen acting role playing the character of, Lwaxana Troi, who is the mother of Counselor Deanna Troi, on the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” series.

Report: J.J. Abrams says that Leonard Nimoy as the adult Spock in “Star Trek” is no cameo…

If you read this interview with J.J. Abrams about the new “Star Trek” movie, he confirms that Leonard Nimoy playing the adult Spock is no cameo. You will get the adult Spock pretty much throughout the entire movie.

My guess is that the adult Spock is the narrator of the story, he’s telling the story of the younger cast.

Read the interview with JJ Abrams here:

Very cool. I’m happy to hear that Leonard as Spock is not a tiny role, and glad he is the lead.

Will JJ give the adult Captain Kirk a tribute in the film where Spock is visiting Kirk’s gravesite? I hope JJ does.

Keep in mind that both “Terminator Salvation” and “Star Trek” are both being released on the same weekend in May. “Star Trek” is being released May 8th and “Terminator Salvation” is being released May 9th.

Oh my, talk about a huge competition in the box office.  Now I can see why “Terminator” and “Star Trek” don’t want to release on the same day ’cause of the box office thing. “Terminator” is being released on a Saturday and it’s very rare that movies get released that day.

That May weekend is a bad time to release “Star Trek” ’cause I have a feeling “Terminator” will destroy “Star Trek” in the box office anyways, but we’ll wait and see.

I will see both of those movies, of course.

Report: JJ Abram’s “Star Trek” to release a comic book prequel mini series before film’s release…

IDW Publishing has teamed up with Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions to publish a limited four-issue comic book series with the story taken place before the new “Star Trek” movie happens. They explain that the comics will be a like a countdown type of thing before the new “Star Trek” film directed by J.J. Abrams hitting theaters everywhere May 8th of 2009. The first of the comic book series “Star Trek: Countdown #1” will be published and released in bookstores everywhere in January 2009.

The comic book series will be about a combination of both the original Star Trek and “The Next Generation” characters on how they will be passing the torch to the new movie of the younger cast.

Dark Horizons reports:

Interesting. I’ll have to pick up the first comic when it comes out.

Another thing about the new “Star Trek” film by JJ Abrams, I wonder what their premiere red carpet showing would be like. I wonder if the actors from the original Star Trek cast and actors from The Next Generation will show up at the “Star Trek” premiere in May.

We all know the original cast will show at the “Star Trek” premiere, but I wonder if we’ll get an appearance of Patrict Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Levar Burton, etc. at JJ’s “Star Trek” premiere as well. We’ll just have to wait to see what cast members will show up. 🙂 I’m sure William Shatner will be at the premiere, no doubt. Of course, Leonard Nimoy will be there ’cause Leonard is in the new “Star Trek” film as the adult Spock.

Thought: The new “Star Trek” movie, how will it do in box office? Will it be the most successful Star Trek film ever?

The most successful Star Trek movie out of them all, the one that made the most was “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”, the Star Trek movie that bombed was “Star Trek – Nemesis”. I’m reffering to the overall amount of money the films grossed, not talking about the opening weekends.

As you can see…

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=startrek.htm

Most of the Star Trek movies are pretty successful.

What do you think? Do you think the new “Star Trek” movie with JJ Abrams will top “Star Trek IV”?

I predict yes, definitely. As you see in the link all the Star Trek movies didn’t do well in it’s first opening weekend, but I am predicting the new Star Trek movie will be a huge money maker in it’s opening weekend. We all know that JJ Abrams “Star Trek” will make more than 70 million in it’s opening weekend or way more. That’s exactly how it’s going to top “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” gross wise.

JJ Abrams just saved Star Trek. He’s going to revive the series totally. Bring the series to a positive note. JJ Abrams is attracting a lot of people who aren’t even Star Trek fans at all to see the film anyways. So this new film is obviously going to be HUGE!!!!

The new film will do fine without William Shatner in it. It won’t bomb without Shatner, trust me on this. This movie help made Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana huge stars, these young actors weren’t too well known before and they are getting well known quick!!!

While I do love most Star Trek films, there is one out of the 10 that I don’t like. The only one I thought that sucked was “Star Trek: Insurrection” but the rest of ’em are great in my opinion. Yes, I even liked “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier” although many people said that was the worst Trek film.

The Star Trek franchise is great. I’ve always loved it! The series deserve to get successful and huge for once and JJ Abrams will make that happen. Watch out George Lucas!!!

Thought: WTF??? Was Captain Kirk and Uhura ever in love?

So you’ve seen the “Star Trek” trailer I posted here in the blog. And you see a young Captain Kirk getting it on with a young Uhura. I’m sure those of you who are not much of a Star Trek fan and you’re thinking to yourselves, “WTF? Was Captain Kirk and Uhura ever in love?”

In answer to your question…yes, they were at one point…since JJ Abrams goal with the new “Star Trek” movie to be a complete homage to the original series…that is why he had to throw the Kirk and Uhura relationship in there.

Captain James T. Kirk had always been known to be a womanizer in the series and the films. In the earlier episodes of the original Star Trek series, there is one episode where Kirk and Uhura were intimate.

The video below…
