You can hear Robert Plant talking to the audience quite clearly.”

Film Review: John Carter

Directed by: Andrew Stanton
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Cranston

So today, I decided to hit the mall to check out the new, “John Carter”, movie released by Disney. Here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: A Civil War vet named, John Carter, who is from Virginia, is transplanted to planet Mars, the red planet. While there, he discovered that the planet was inhabited by 12 foot tall barbarians. While John is being kept prisoner by these barbarians, he met a princess named,Dejah Thoris, to save her from getting forced to marry a man who she doesn’t want to marry.

As some of you know, this film was based on the first John Carter book by, Edgar Rice Burroughs, which is originally titled, “A Princess of Mars”. The same author who wrote the Tarzan series. I never read the book but after seeing the film, makes me want to. I believe I can download the book for FREE through iBooks on my Ipad. Sometime, I’ll have to download it and read it myself.

On with the movie, I was at first pretty skeptical of this movie being made. The trailer didn’t grab me at first, but it grew on me. Plus, I like Taylor Kitsch as an actor. He is most well known for his role as Tim Riggins for, “Friday Night Lights”, plus he did several other films in his career as well. The other movies he starred in weren’t very big roles. They were mostly supporting roles and cameos. Finally, Taylor gets a huge opportunity to star in a major leading role and he ended up getting, John Carter. This John Carter character has appeared in comics and there was already a straight to DVD movie as well. It’s just that this character has never landed a big screen picture, and now it’s the time.

I actually thought the movie itself was very enjoyable and entertaining. It had good writing and good acting. The movie was a good long, 2 and half hours. It is action packed. The special effects are pretty impressive. Taylor did a great job in his first major leading role. Taylor did a great job playing a tough guy character.

A lot of people have been comparing this movie to “Star Wars”, and, “Avatar”, and I agree. This film is similar to those movies, but better, in my opinion. The action scenes were fun. I liked the characters Bryan Cranston and Willem Dafoe played. It’s a PG-13 Disney movie, but it still can be enjoyable for the little kids as well.

What I liked about “John Carter”, they made that movie kind of old school. The way sci fi movies were made back in the 70’s and 80’s. It had that kind of feeling. Kind of felt like David Lynch’s “Dune” or, “Enemy Mine”. There hasn’t been any new sci-fi action adventure flicks lately, and it’s about time that this genre makes a comeback. “John Carter” wasn’t the best movie ever made, but it was just enjoyable and fun.

Score for “John Carter” = *** (“3 stars” as in good)

Report: Finally, the long awaited, “Diablo III”, gets a release date! Hell yeah!!!!

Well, Diablo fans, the wait is almost over. The long awaited, “Diablo III”, PC only game, finally gets a release date! The game is hitting stores, May 15th of this year.

Check it out here.

I don’t play PC games much anymore as I used to, but I’m going to have to buy this one. I love the Diablo games. Yes, I did play the first two when I was a kid. I was pretty obsessed with these games and would play them for hours and hours. It’s been years for a new Diablo game. Diablo II came out in 2008, yes, it’s been that long. Lets hope the long wait will be worth it.

I don’t use my computer to play video games, so I don’t know how my computer will take this game ’cause it will probably be a big file and might crash a lot so I’ll have to see. Would love to play this game.

If you get ignored by the local music websites and the local press, who cares…

Over the years, I’ve tried to submit my music to certain local music websites that should be nameless for a possible review or a simple plug of my music. I got nothing and a lot of them acted like I didn’t even existed or didn’t care if I am a musician or not. You know what? That’s all cool and good with me. It’s not the end of the world. I’m not all that desperate to get publicity for myself. Most local people are following my site anyway, so that’s why I plug my music here and not anyplace else.

The thing that pisses me off about the local music scene, is that these local music websites claim they support all local music. Well if they think they do, that means they should be able to support my music as well, but I get overlooked by a lot of them. Yes, it is kind of ridiculous, I know, but I learn to deal with it. They plug in almost every band & solo artist out there, but when it comes to my music, they don’t care.

I still continue to make music over the years and a lot of people don’t realize it. Even if a few my original songs or covers get a lot of positive feedback, I still get nothing. I still gig once in a while too.

The only way a band/musician can get a lot of local publicity in the local press (blogs, newspapers, etc.), is that they must have a large following. These popular bands help get these websites more views and hits. It seems that only the well known & established bands get the most publicity. This is one thing that I would love to see the local music scene get improved on. I would like to see the local press give the overlooked musicians a chance to get the recognition they deserve. Not just for myself, it should be for other musicians that have been overlooked by the local press, too.

Nope. They just want to keep kissing the asses of the same bands & musicians who continuosly hog the publicity. Call me jealous if you want, I’m not afraid to be real about this stuff.

Don’t get me wrong. I support local music and bands, myself. I’m a big supporter of local music. It’s just really weird that when people claim, they “support all local music”, you know it’s a flat out lie. They’re just saying that to be nice. I am the true supporter of local music than anybody out there. I don’t lie about it either. I support all bands & musicians even if they don’t get any recognition. I respect all talent, be it, either pro or amateur ’cause we all work hard to be heard.

Local music shouldn’t be about who’s better and who is crap. Everyone deserves to get supported. If you’re too opinionated about other musicians, then you have no business being a true local music supporter. Period.

Edit to add: I know this is a harsh rant, but I had to get the truth off my chest.

Gym go’ers should not obsess with the weight scale or how much bodyfat % you have…

I haven’t posted a fitness topic in a while, so I thought I would come up with something. People who go to the gym on a weekly basis shouldn’t obsess with the weight scale or how much bodyfat % you have. To me, I don’t care about either of these things. I don’t have a goal that I want to get lower bodyfat. I’m fine just the way I am. I don’t want to get lower than 10%, because honestly, I think people who  go lower than 10% or 8%, is just disgusting looking anyway. Having bodyfat that low, makes you look like a starving person. You don’t really need to be that lean. When you want to be in a fitness competition, it’s understandable to be that low, but when you’re living in the real world, you don’t need to.

I used to obsess with the weight scale and the bodyfat %, but I don’t care anymore. I already have a good enough visible six pack. You’ve seen the photos yourself. So, I’m proud of the way I look. I don’t need to go any lower or lose anymore weight.

This is why I have cheat meal weekends as a way to help keep it the way it is. If you want a six pack to prepare for the summer, wasting time dong ab crunches is not going pull it. Good eating most of the week and plenty of cardio is key to getting that sexy washboard everyone wants. If I can do it, anybody can.

Yes, I’m still doing the fitness/bodybuilding thing. Keep it going all year long, all year round, although I did have one week off of it this Winter which was last week. Now I’m back into my routine. I’ve been experimenting with the light lifting/more reps thing and that’s awesome too.

Back to the weight scale and bodyfat %, it’s not really all that important to know in life. I haven’t really checked my bodyfat % in a long while, and don’t think I’m going to. You don’t need to know that you’re losing weight by stepping on the scale everyday. You’ll know it when your pants start to fall down, or when your abs start actually showing.

Thought: If you think you get lack of support for your music…

…don’t worry about it. I know there’s a lot of struggling musicians out there getting ignored, I’m not the only one. However, no matter what people think of you or your music, you will always get your share of supporters and fans. There will be some people that will actually care for you as a person and there will be people that will actually like your music, even if a lot of other people don’t.

Believe it or not, but I do have my own supporters & fans as well. I get people that support my music. That is one reason why I continue to do this and one reason why I’m planning to get my music going again. Doing it for my supporters who have stayed loyal to me after all this time.

No matter how many haters & doubters, you get, you will always get loyal supporters that will stick with you, no matter what happens. You will get people who believes in you.

So stop complaining about being a “struggling” musician (I need to do the same) ’cause you never know how many people actually likes you out there. You need stay positive and be appreciative for what you have.

It’s awesome I still have some fans though, I thank them for that. As long as you still have the support of those people, you shouldn’t worry about what other people think of you. Just continue to make the music for the fans that you still have.

Thought: What’s next for Jon Bernthal???

Now that we all know what happened with Shane, this means that actor Jon Bernthal, is officially done with the show. Yep, that’s it. Only two seasons for him in, “The Walking Dead”. Kind of sad though, I was hoping they make Shane live for another season or two.

Now the fans are wondering, what’s next for Jon? He is a phenomenal actor. I thought he did a great job playing Shane.

Before he got the job for, “The Waking Dead”, he did some movie roles and appeared on various TV shows over the years. It’s just that he didn’t become a well known actor until he got hired for, “The Walking Dead”.

Well, “The Walking Dead”, will for sure, open up many doors for his career. Now that he’s a well known star, expect some bigger things for his career up ahead. I’m sure he will get some big movie roles.

I’m pretty sure the horror movie industry are all over this guy now. I can see him starring in more horror films. I think he would make a pretty cool villain in an action film or horror film.

Whatever he does, I’m sure he will succeed.

Kev

Edit to add: On a side note, I just read that Jon went to college in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He went to Skidmore College. Thought it was pretty cool… his info at wikipedia.

Report: We’ll have to wait even longer for the big screen “24”, will this movie ever happen???

Earlier this year, Kiefer kept hinting through interviews that the big screen, “24”, could start shooting this Spring. Well, not anymore. Like the ticking clock is forcing us to wait even longer. It’s being pushed back for a few reasons: One, Kiefer is not happy with the payment of the movie. Two, Kiefer and the film crew don’t want to rush the film. Three, Kiefer’s new show “Touch”, is getting in the way with it.

Deadline, reports.

I guess waiting longer is okay with me. Take your time to make the movie real good, if it ever happens. Most of the shows beloved characters like David Palmer and Bill Buchannan were killed off, so they won’t be able to return to the film at all. The only characters that could return are Chloe and Tony.

The Jack Bauer story can continue. If Kiefer no longer wants the film, there can’t be a replacement ’cause Jack Bauer can only be played by Kiefer, no one else.
