BREAKING NEWS: Dave Matthews Band to take a year off of touring/recording in 2011!!!

After over 20 long years of touring and making albums, The Dave Matthews Band announced they will take a break from it all in 2011. No touring and no new studio albums that year. Although, I’m pretty sure DMB will release plenty of live albums during that year.

I’m not such a big DMB fan anymore as I used to be. Used to love ’em but now I find ’em overrated and un-interesting. I like Phish way more than DMB.

Cool Video: Phish performs the Rolling Stones hit, “Loving Cup” on Jimmy Fallon last night…

Phish performed on TV for the first time in many years. Here they are performing the Rolling Stones classic, “Loving Cup”  in celebration of the band’s “Exile on Main St.” album. Keith Richards was even there to introduce the band to the stage. How cool is that?

See the great performance here:

Now you see how talented Phish really is when they play live. Phish are amazing live performers, I’ve seen them live in concert at least a couple of times. I love Phish and plan on seeing them again this summer at SPAC hopefully.

Report: Why do girls scream and cry for Justin Bieber? It’s because he’s the Beatles of this generation…

Teen star, Justin Bieber appeared on Oprah and admitted he doesn’t understand why girls scream and cry for him. Remember, the Beatles had this same exact thing back when they were Justin’s age. Will Justin be just as big as the Beatles when he gets older?

Most people would find Justin annoying ’cause he’s a kid singer. I’m not into kid singers much but I absolutely have no problem with Bieber. His songs are not that bad, and almost kind of Beatles like. Again, I wouldn’t buy his albums and wouldn’t see him live, but I could listen to him on the radio, that’s all cool with me. His music is fun. In my opinion, Bieber is way better than Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers musically. I still can’t get that “Baby” song out of my head!

Thought: I’m happy for Bret Michaels but still kind of concerned…cancel that tour and take it easy, bro!

It’s great news that Bret Michaels, is expected to make a full recovery, but people should still be a little concerned for him. I think, Bret should cancel the tour and take it easy for a while. What if something else happens to him out on the road? I know he has quite a long tour ahead of him. The shows must go on like they all say, but what if something else can happen to him next time around?

Bret is scheduled to make an appearance in the Capital District area in Clifton Park, at a venue called, “Northern Lights” on May 21st.

He had a rough time in the hospital. I have this bad feeling something might happen to him again. Glad he is alright for now though.

Report: Am I actually agreeing with E! on something? Yeah, who cares about Chely Wright coming out of the closet!

I hate E! but this is a great article…

Why does this have to be big news? My guess is to help promote her upcoming album, “Lifted off the Ground” which will hit stores tomorrow.

I think that is all there is to be said about that.

You don’t really have true passion in music if…

A lot of people claim they have strong passion in music, but do you really? If you think you have true passion in music here are several things you must think about. These are the things that shows people that you have your true passion. Lets look at it now.

You don’t really have true passion in music if:

  • you only listen to mainstream and popular music. People think they have passion in music if you listen to only stuff you see in the Billboard Top 200 and stuff on the radio. I know some people like this. The type of people who refuses to listen to old school music or refuses to listen to underrated bands/artists they’ve never heard of. You try to talk them into listening to other stuff, but they don’t. Some folks would only listen to popular stuff and it’s very strange to me, in my opinion.
  • you don’t play an instrument or even sing. In my eyes, if someone wants to show true passion in music they must play an instrument or sing or something. They don’t have to be good. Just play or do something. Any instrument, it can even be a harmonica or a flute. Doesn’t matter.
  • you never listened to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Ac/Dc, Neil Young or any legendary classic rock band – Any music lover who has never listened to any legendary classic rock band is not an actual music lover, in my opinion.
  • don’t go to live concerts on a regular basis – Whether you go to local concerts or go see national bands at arenas, it’s all good. This is a fine way to show your true passion.
  • you don’t see music as your #1 priority in life – A lot of famous musicians in the music industry got where they are today ’cause they all saw music as their #1 priority. Music is all these guys do. Family and life outside of music maybe more important, yes, but according to actual music lovers, they would place music as #1 than anything else.  If you place music as #2, and place life/family first… sorry, you don’t have true love for music.
  • you can’t pick your own favorite albums instead of songs – Many music listeners would pick a certain song to listen to off an album instead of listening through the entire album. I notice some people would skip certain songs they don’t like and go to the next to listen to that they do like. This isn’t what actual music lovers do. They listen through an entire album like a piece of art. Many true music lovers are never picky with songs they don’t like, most I know would love an album all the way through. I’m the same way. People don’t listen to records like that anymore and it’s really sad.
  • you don’t know a lot about your favorite music artist or band – I find some music fans if they like a certain band or artist, they know nothing about ’em. Don’t know their music history, don’t know their discography, don’t memorize their lyrics, how they play their live shows, what kind of guitars or instruments they play, or whatever. A true music lover would KNOW EVERYTHING about their favorite music artist or band. I think it’s very important to know as much information about your favorite music artist as you possibly can. For example, I know a lot about Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, David Bowie, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, etc.
  • you don’t understand what it’s like being a musician – It is difficult talking about music to people who aren’t musicians. If you talk guitars, amps or music theory to non-musicians, they would be like, ‘eh, whatever”, but when you talk to other musicians about this stuff, they would understand what you’re talking about.
  • you don’t read about music – People would listen to music, but a lot of them don’t read anything about it. Reading books, magazines, etc. about the industry. A real music lover would do these things. Keep up to date of what’s going on in the world of music is important.
  • you only listen to one genre – I hate this question, “what kind of music do you listen to” for many reasons. It annoys me. A lot of folks out there would only listen to one genre, a certain genre that you like. A real music lover would listen to pretty much everything. Rock n’ roll, metal, country, pop, R&B, classical, blues, jazz, etc. I don’t listen to one genre, I pretty much listen to everything if you’ve noticed. I understand people’s taste in music and people are entitled to their own opinions, but there’s plenty of music out there. Listening to other stuff won’t hurt ’cause I think if I listen to one genre all the time, it would bore me.

Enjoy.

Report: If Billy Corgan knows Courtney can’t write her own songs, it must be true…

Billy Corgan is on a war with Courtney Love. Billy attacks Courtney Love in Twitter, using short sentences flaming her without using her name but you know his posts are aiming at her.

His attacks against Courtney are numbered by “Thoughts”…

Read ’em here:

http://twitter.com/billy

I will not be buying Courtney’s new album. Why buy if she doesn’t write her own music? If Billy didn’t want Courtney using his songs he wrote for her album, then he shouldn’t have done it in the first place.

Cool Video: M.I.A. releases new song and new video titled, “Born Free” (Warning: this video is R-rated)

One of my favorite artists, M.I.A., is finally back from her hiatus. She is finally releasing a new album this June. She also released her first single titled, “Born Free” and uploaded the video exclusively on her official website.

Before you watch this, you must be aware that this video is very graphic with violence. It also has strong sexual content. It’s a pretty intense video and fits well with the song.

The film is directed by a guy named, Romain Gavras. You will see SWAT police officers, barging into this apartment building taking people and arresting them violently. You will see drug use and a fat couple fuckin’ each other in bed. Nudity and all. The video will even get far as murdering children by blowing their heads off with a gun. It’s pretty intense and brutal stuff.

What is the message M.I.A. sending through this video? It’s definitely political, indeed. Is it about drug bust? Illegal immigration? Cops gone evil? Note sure. I don’t understand either.

It is a great song though. I’ve always loved M.I.A. Her music is very powerful. I think she’s way better than Lady Gaga. I’m a huge M.I.A. fan and can’t wait for her new album!

Enjoy the video here:

Edit to add: Notice all the young people that the police kidnapped? They’re all redheads. The bus drives by a picture with three red head army guys holding their hands up in the air. What do they have against redheaded people? What is this? Very strange video. Not sure what the message is.

Edit to add part 2: Oh I get it now. Watching the video again, the reason the cops have busted on those redhead people is because those three painted kids on the wall there, they must of used to be in the army. Now they are a militia. Notice, the two red headed kids hiding around the corner as the SWAT bus is driving away, wearing a red bandana around their mouth looking like a militia or a gang, then they come out throwing rocks at ’em or something. It has to do something with that. The redheads want their freedom, like the title says “Born Free”. That’s why the kids are young in the video.
