Report: Phish to appear on Jimmy Fallon to cover Rolling Stones song…

It’s a rare thing that Phish does TV performances. Why? Because they hardly ever do it. Their last TV performance was way back in 2004. I don’t know what show they appeared on that year but I’m trying to find out by google research, not finding anything.

On May 13th, Phish will be going on Jimmy Fallon, to perform a Rolling Stones cover off their, “Exile on Main Street” album. During Phish’s 3 day Halloween fest in Indio, California. Phish performed “Exile On Main Street” in it’s entirety. Phish will be performing one song off that record on Jimmy Fallon.

Yes, Phish do play covers at their live gigs. They have always been known to do that.

As to which song Phish will play from “Exile on Main St.”, I’m thinking either “Soul Survivor” or “Sweet Virginia”.

Report: Lady Gaga plans to stick around music for a very long time…

Lady Gaga wants to let fans know that she doesn’t plan on quitting the music business anytime soon. She reveals she’ll still be doing music even when she’s in her 50’s in the future, like Madonna for example.

More on it here:

http://www.nme.com/news/lady-gaga/50442

That’s good. The more Gaga, the better. I have her first two albums, “The Fame”, and “The Fame Monster”. She’s great music to workout to. I don’t like much of today’s music but Lady Gaga is who I love as a music artist. I’ll be getting every album she comes out with now. I one day hope, will get my chance to see her live in concert as well. Big fan.

Cool Video : Axl Rose doesn’t like being heckled by his own fans…

This is some funny shit here, shows how much of a douchebag, Axl Rose, really is on and off the stage. When rock stars get objects thrown at them, rock stars usually ignore that stuff and keep going with the show, but with Axl Rose, he doesn’t like it. For those that are new with Guns N’ Roses, this is nothing new with Axl threatening fans to leave the show if things get thrown at him. Axl’s been doing this for years. I’ll post older concert footage where Axl pretty much does the same thing.

Watch a few videos below.

The Music Business Heretic agrees with me, thanks…

A site called the Music Business Heretic responded to my post about bands/musicians moving to a new area hoping to further their music career, and guess what? They agree with me. How cool is that? Anyway, it appears that the guy that owns the Music Business Heretic is an entertainment lawyer in the music biz.

Read their response here:

Just thought I would show you.

Going to the next level is a tough road in music. It takes a lot of work and dedication. If you move to a different area, hoping to have a better music career right away, chances are that you are only dreaming.

A few signs that you take yourself as a musician too seriously…

There are too many musicians and bands that take themselves too seriously in music. I don’t take myself too seriously in music. I only play for the passion and the love of it, that’s it. I don’t really care for all those exciting and bigger things that these bands obsess with over too much.

Here are some things that you may be taking music too seriously and some needs to get over yourselves…

  • Ego – This is a huge one. LOT of egos out there but that’s okay, it’s part of the music business. There are musicians out there that think they are talented and god’s gift to music, it’s just funny stuff. Then they get defensive when they get criticized in a negative direction.
  • You are in it for the “money” – There are bands out there that are in it for the money and that’s it. Nothing wrong with getting paid for something you love to do, but being paid to play music means jack shit to me, I don’t care about money when it comes to music. I’m always willing to play live for free, no matter what. If I get paid, fine, I’ll take it but money means very “little” to me when it comes to rockin’ out. That’s how you show the true passion when it comes to playing music.
  • Obsession with fans/popularity – That stuff is nice, don’t get me wrong. I’m not really into this just to try and get as many fans as possible. If I don’t get popular, cool. I pretty much like to make music for myself but if other people enjoy it, I’m fine with that also.
  • Obsession with opportunity – What I mean by this, is bands thinks it’s so amazing to get great opportunities in music. Like opening for a famed national act, performing on TV, performing on a huge festival or winning battle of the bands and things like that. That stuff is nice, I’m sure it would be cool but I don’t understand why other bands think it’s so glorious. I don’t see anything special about “opportunity”. Just be appreciative for the music that you created, and not worrying about rising above to the next level.
  • Making friends and partying after gigs – Hey I enjoy talking to people and meeting new folks in the music world, don’t get me wrong, but I am not into this just to make friends at the shows and to party hard and drink after the gigs that so many bands are into. I don’t even drink anymore. So if I ever start gigging in the future again, you would only see me drinking bottled water which is what I’ve been drinking mostly these days. I haven’t touched an alcohol drink in way over a year. Getting drunk and loaded doesn’t give you that six pack which is what I’m trying to get, lol. On top of that, bands drinking after shows is really lame and stupid anyways.

Yep, making music and writing songs is pretty much all I care about. All that stuff above shouldn’t matter and should be less important to you.

Report: Tom Hanks teaming up with Green Day to bring “American Idiot” to the big screen…

It’s no secret that Tom Hanks is a big music lover but who knew that he is a huge fan of Green Day? It seems that he is. If you pay attention to the “American Idiot” album, the album is kind of like a theatre musical, that’s why it is headed to Broadway later this Spring. Now expect this to head to the big screen with the help of Tom Hanks.

Will Tom get himself an acting role in the “American Idiot” movie or will he direct it? Who knows, he could do either one or both if he wanted.

Report: Stone Temple Pilots to release new album, May 24th…

The reunited Stone Temple Pilots have already finished their new album and it’s ready for release. The album will have no title and it will be released this Spring, on May 24th.

Lets hope this is a good one and hope they return to their old grunge roots. I like STP a lot, but only their first two albums. I thought “Core” and “Purple” were both incredible and amazing records. Everything else the band did after those two albums weren’t that great.

I’ll get this album through Itunes when it’s out.

Report: Lady Gaga to star the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s romantic/comedy film?

Remember the report that Quentin Tarantino has plans to make a romantic comedy film next? Well look like, Tarantino has already started casting. Pop star, Lady Gaga, is in talks to star the leading role in Quentin Tarantino’s next film. The article fails to say what movie it is, but I assume that it’s Tarantino’s romantic comedy film that he’s planning.

This shows that it is a possibility that John Travolta could be re-teaming with Tarantino but could it be this movie? Get the clue, Lady Gaga has something to do with song and dance, so does John Travolta. John is also a singer and dancer. Are we going to see a John Travolta and Lady Gaga dance scene for the next film? I wouldn’t be surprised that John Travolta could get the male lead, and you shouldn’t be surprised either.

This would be a great acting comeback for John too, to work with Tarantino again.

Report: Guitar World snubs Michael J. Fox for “Johnny B. Goode” in their “Top 10 Big Screen Moments” list…

I usually like Guitar World magazine, but I’m dissapointed in their “Top 10 Big Screen Moments” list, where they list the top guitar moments of all time in film. I agree with everything in this list, but I can’t believe they snubbed Michael J. Fox, left him off the list. Marty McFly playing “Johnny B. Good” in “Back to the Future” is the greatest guitar film moment of all time.

Check out the list here:

http://www.guitarworld.com/article/top_10_big_screen_guitar_moments

Are the editors of Guitar World living under a rock? Have they even seen, “Back to the Future”? Marty McFly playing “Johnny B. Goode” is such a badass scene. It’s such a shame that scene was left out of the list. If you’re going to do a top “Best Guitar moments in films” list and not include this in, you’re not the true music lover that you say you are.

Varg Vikernes of Burzum interviewed for Guitar World…

So I got this month’s Guitar World magazine with Jimi Hendrix on the cover. I read some of it over the weekend. In the magazine, had an interview with a guy that kind of caught my attention. His name is Varg Vikernes, the frontman for his band, Burzum. It’s a black metal band. While I am a fan of heavy music, I never listened to black metal before. If you want some really scary shit in the metal industry, forget Ozzy Osbourne and Marilyn Manson, check out this guy, Varg Vikernes. Varg is a musician from Norway. He was just released from prison after a 15 year sentence for the murder of Euronymous of another death metal band called, Mayhem. Varg was originally sentenced for 21 years for murder and burning down several churches but he was released early for parole.

Now he’s out, and had an interview with Guitar World magazine. He’s made several albums under the Burzum name. He doesn’t have an actual band, he’s a one man band, actually. Played all instruments himself. He’s made two albums while in prison. While he’s not allowed any instruments in prison, he was allowed to have a synthesizer so he recorded two albums in prison. He’s got a new album out, but he made that one in a studio.

I was curious to hear Burzum music, so I went looking for tracks in youtube, and they are interesting. Varg Vikernes was a pretty controversial figure in the Black Metal industry. Expect him to be a little more well known now that Guitar World got him.

Listen to a Burzum track here, which I actually kind of like. Interesting sound and unique.
