Happy Birthday: Jimmy Page

There’s another huge birthday to celebrate in the world of music today. Today is Jimmy Page’s 67’th birthday! Happy Birthday, Jimmy! This is the man that inspired me to pick up the guitar. I like a lot of guitarists out there but Jimmy Page is my no. 1. I too hope he comes out with a new music project soon. It’s been a long time since he’s done something since the Led Zeppelin reunion at the O2.

Thought: Why Led Zeppelin refuses to release their music for Guitar Hero or Rock Band…

Everybody wants the mighty Led Zeppelin to release their own Guitar Hero or Rock Band video game, but it will never happen. They never released their music to any of these games in the past. Why is this? Is it ego? Money? No, it’s neither. Led Zeppelin not releasing their old music to video games is nothing personal against the fans. The reason Jimmy Page wouldn’t allow it is because he wants kids to pick up a real guitar and learn Led Zep songs on a real guitar. Not on a video game.

That is why, Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White made that movie, “It Might Get Loud”. The movie was made in hopes of inspiring more people to pick up the electric guitar.

I have no respect for Guitar Hero or Rock Band anymore. I used to think they were cool, but they are no longer interesting. I have a couple of Guitar Hero video games in my collection but I don’t play ’em anymore. I feel more comfortable playing the real guitar myself.

I’ve been playing a lot more electric guitar, and I’m just loving it too much. Trying to get better at guitar solos, that’s my main focus. Maybe someday I’ll video tape myself playing the electric guitar to just noodle around and show off a bit. Playing the electric is amazing. I feel like home playing it. I suddenly lost interest in acoustic guitar and want to get used to electric now.

I’m glad Led Zeppelin will never release their music to video games. It’s a good decision.

Report: Robert Plant releases 9th solo album, “Band of Joy”…

Robert Plant, just released his 9th solo album, “Band of Joy”, which is a name that was taken from his first band before forming, Led Zeppelin. The new album is concentrating on mostly: country, blues, gospel and of course, there’s some rock n’ roll on it as well.

Robert wasn’t very big in his solo career, but he had a few very successful solo albums such as “Manic Nirvana, “Now and Zen” and “Fate of Nations”.

Read more on it, here.

I’m happy for Robert that he’s still doing music since, the Led Zep reunion. Hopefully Jimmy Page will come out with a new music project sometime.

Hear a new song from his new album, a song called, “Angel Dance” in the video below.

Report: Robert Plant gives up rockin’ for good!

Robert Plant, wants to let Led Zeppelin and metal fans to know that the legendary singer no longer wants to rock hard. Yep, he is completely done with fronting hard rock bands whether it would be for Led Zeppelin or another project.

Robert plans to do different genres of music.

He feels he is getting too old for rock n’ roll, his ears aren’t taking it and he claims he can no longer sing the genre anymore like he used to in the 70’s and 80’s. Which is understandable, after years of Robert singing Zeppelin songs and other side projects, singing to high pitch screams and singing at high notes, he just can’t do that anymore. Why do you think Led Zeppelin had to lower down a few keys at the O2 reunion show a few years back?

Robert fails to say what genre he plans to stick to for the rest of his life but will he stick to folk music, country, bluegrass? Probably. I can see him doing jazz or blues down the road too.

I can’t blame, Robert, and I respect his decision.

John Paul Jones is still rockin’ and playing in bands like with Them Crooked Vultures. Jimmy Page hinted a comeback to music a while back but haven’t heard anything yet on what Pagey is planning on doing next. I’m pretty sure Jimmy Page will never give up hard rock music. Whatever project Jimmy Page does next, I’ll always support and looking forward to seeing what Jimmy would do next. I hope Jimmy don’t make us wait any longer. We want Jimmy Page back in the music world soon!

Report: Jimmy Page accused of stealing “Dazed and Confused” riff from folk singer…

Jimmy Page just got sued by legendary folk singer, Jake Holmes, claiming that Page stole the main riff for the Led Zeppelin hit song.

More on it here:

http://www.tmz.com/2010/06/29/led-zeppelin-dazed-and-confused-jimmy-page-lawsuit-jake-holmes/

In order for something to be considered, “copyright infrigement” both things needs to be exactly the same. After listening to both songs in their entirety, are y’all sure they both sound similar? The Led Zeppelin version is in the key of G and the Jake Holmes version is in the key of C#, Holmes tuned the song way down.

In the old days, it was originally the “Yardbirds” that first played the song. Holmes was in favor of the Yardbirds remaking the song ’cause Holmes was the opening act of the Yardbirds at the Village Theatre concert in 1967. Holmes let the Yardbirds play the song ’cause the band credited his name.

Read for yourself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazed_and_Confused_(song)

So why is Holmes suing Page now? Is it because Page is more of a rock god and Holmes isn’t? Even if Page may have ripped off the song, there are tons of other Led Zeppelin songs where Page took the riff from other bands. Look at how many bands that plays the same fuckin’ “Rock and Roll” riff all over. What about the main riff to “Black Dog”, look at how many old bands that sound like that. Look at how many old bands that sounds like the riff from “Communication Breakdown”, and hell, Zep probably took the riff of “Kashmir” from another band as well.

These things happen all the time in music. In my opinion, it’s not called, “stealing”, it’s called “borrowing”.

I think this lawsuit is gonna get Holmes no where and to me it’s pretty silly. I think Holmes sued Page out of pure jealous rage. Btw, I didn’t even know Holmes is still alive and the guy is like 70 now I think.

Not A Cool Video: Mary J. Blige, Steve Vai, and Orianthi butchers “Stairway to Heaven”…

I like Steve Vai and Orianthi, and all. Both are amazing guitarists, but why would they go on Idol to cover “Stairway” with Mary J. Blige? I know they’re trying to be cool by covering Led Zeppelin, but this cover version is such an embarrassment, it makes me want to vomit all over the place. Did Simon Cowell actually enjoy this? This is such a nightmare performance. I know Mary J. Blige is trying to be rock n’ roll, but she doesn’t fit the genre. Sorry, Mary J., go back to R&B where you belong. She’s getting a pretty big backlash for covering this song too. What were Jimmy Page and Robert Plant thinking when they gave her the permission to cover it? Wow, this is terrible.

Report: Jimmy Page ready to rock again…but not revealing what he’s doing yet…

Robert Plant is busy making music with Alison Krauss, John Paul Jones is busy with Dave Grohl for the band, Them Crooked Vultures. Jimmy Page is the only Led Zeppelin member, not doing anything musically at this point and this guy is not waiting any longer!!! He’s dying to make new music and get back on the road again!

Jimmy Page admits he hasn’t done anything since the 02 Led Zeppelin reunion show two years ago and he feels it’s about time to do something new again. He has new music up his sleeve and ready to share it with us.

While he won’t reveal what he has planned for us, he definitely plans on coming back to the music industry in 2010.

Jimmy Page has been well known to collaborate with other artists for years and I wonder what artists will he work with next? It wouldn’t surprise me if he is collaborating with Jack White and the Edge, for an album and tour. Probably is. If I’m wrong, can’t wait to see what Jimmy has got planned. Sounds exciting!

Report: Robert Plant admits Led Zeppelin reuniting would screw up the band’s legacy…

After many months of Robert Plant constantly denying to re-join Led Zeppelin, saying that he’s committed with his project with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant speaks out on the real reason why Led Zeppelin wouldn’t reunite for a tour and new album. Simply because he feels it would be difficult for him and the rest of Led Zeppelin to bring the past into the now. He also feels that the Led Zep reunion would screw their legacy.

Hmmm, I’ve been saying something like this in my blog for the past months as well. Good for Robert, he’s smart about this. They played a good final show at the O2 in 2007 Dec. 10th, let that be Led Zeppelin’s final show and that’s the way it should be. Hopefully this will get people to stop talking about Led Zeppelin reuniting. I’m glad it’s not going to happen. I don’t want their legacy ruined either.

Cool Video: Myles Kennedy confirms he won’t be singing for Led Zeppelin members but he did audition for them though…

The Eric Blair Show caught up with Myles Kennedy at the NAMM music convention, and Myles Kennedy singer for Alter Bridge, confirmed he won’t be singing for Led Zeppelin, he is committed to Alter Bridge. Myles did however, say he auditioned for Pagey, Jonesy and Bonham. Myles explained how it was a great opportunity for him and he said it was a surreal moment. He kept tight lipped on the songs he played with the band though. So there you have it, no Myles Kennedy for Led Zeppelin.

Which is great though, this makes it very unpredictable on who Pagey, Jonesy and Bonham will choose as their singer!

Check out the interview in the video below.

Report: Jimmy Page confirms Led Zep members will record new album and tour without Plant…

Jimmy Page’s reps confirms that himself, Jonesy and Jason Bonham will record a new studio album, and go on a long world tour in support of it. However, it still stands that Robert Plant will not rejoin them. Robert is happy with his bluegrass project with Alison and Robert are still friends with Jimmy Page and the rest of the band. Robert also gives the new band approval of going on without him.

The reason it’s taking so long for Jimmy’s new band to find a singer, is that they are looking for a perfect fit. It’s been rumoured for a long while that either Chris Cornell, Steven Tyler and Myles Kennedy could land the gig as Robert’s replacement singer. Both Jimmy and Robert has said the new band won’t be called Led Zeppelin, they’ll have a different band name.

More on it here:

Look like they are getting real close to announcing the replacement singer very soon! Cool. I hope Myles Kennedy isn’t the singer but I am happy about the choices of Chris Cornell and Steven Tyler.

Although Cornell denied plenty of times that he isn’t joining the new Led Zep, he could be lying possibly, so he wouldn’t give out secret surprises.

I always pictured in my head Steven Tyler the Aerosmith singer being the frontman for Led Zep, Aerosmith has covered Led Zep tunes, and Tyler sings like Plant back in the 70’s.

I hope it’s either Chris or Steven, ’cause that would be pretty cool.
