Report: Writer-director found for “Hellraiser” reboot? Pascal Laugier just might be that guy…

A “Hellraiser” reboot is in the works, and French writer/director Pascal Laugier is in negotiations to reboot the series. Pascal Laugier is a french writer/director who has made many French horror films.

The most well known French movie that Pascal directed that was also released in the USA is a film titled “Brotherhood of the Wolf” which that film got Monica Belluci’s fame in the USA.

Laugier says he is thrilled to work on the “Hellraiser” reboot and says it’s a dream project for him. He knows Clive Barker’s work extremely well and says he’ll make sure that he won’t fail this film. This will be Laugier’s first USA film, the rest of the films he made were French.

I used to think the “Hellraiser” reboot is going to suck, but after them getting this guy, I am now looking forward to it.

BREAKING NEWS: Actor Joaquin Phoenix announced he is quitting acting to focus on a music career…

Actor Joaquin Phoenix attended the Paul Newman benefit yesterday and dropped a huge bombshell announcement that shocks the entertainment world of film. Joaquin Phoenix, an actor who is not yet a big name, but he has starred in quite a few major roles such as “Gladiator” (he played Commodus, the main villain), “Ladder 49”, “We Own the Night” and “Walk the Line” is quitting acting in Hollywood films. Yep, you heard that right. Joaquin is done, quitting movies for good. And the man is young, he’s about 35 years old I think? HE’S TOO YOUNG TO RETIRE!

The only reason he is quitting films is that he wants to make it into the music business into a full time music career.

More on it here:

NO! No Joaquin, don’t quit! It’s too soon for you dude!

Joaquin Phoenix is one of my favorite actors. I hope he at least decides to do one more film before hanging it up. He’s a fine actor with great talent.

That movie “Walk the Line” is what probably made him want to move on to music but I can’t blame him. Like I said above, it’s too soon for him to quit and he’s only a young guy. Hope he does one last great film before he hangs it up.

This sucks!

Robert Downey Jr. has signed an extensive deal with Marvel to play Tony Stark as Iron Man in three different films: “The Avengers”, “Iron Man 2”, and “Iron Man 3”.

As you know, “The Avengers” are a huge mix of Marvel comic superheros into one whole group and Iron Man is part of the “The Avengers”. The first “Avengers” movie is aiming for a July 15th, 2011 date and the first “Avengers” film will only focus on the superheros of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk characters first.

I wonder if Edward Norton will sign on to play in “The Avengers” as the Incredible Hulk? That be pretty cool.

Report: Warner Bros. will bring live action “Ninja Scroll” to the big screen…

Warner Bros. just won the rights to make “Ninja Scroll” a Japanese anime action thriller into a live action movie. Alex Tse is confirmed to pen the script.

Since the film is being produced by Leo Dicaprio’s film company Appian Way, Leo does NOT plan on starring in the film so don’t get your hopes up in seeing him in this.

There is no cast and no director signed to this film as of this moment.

Who should play Kagero? The leading character is a Japanese female who is the hero of “Ninja Scroll”.

My vote is Ziyi Zhang, the leading star of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. Ziyi will fit the Kagero role perfectly.

Film Review: Body of Lies

Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio, Russell Crowe

Directed by: Ridley Scott

Synopsis: Roger Ferris (played by Leo) is a CIA operative working in Jordan to hunt down terrorists who have been bombing civilian targets. Later, Ferris uncovers some new information from Islamist mastermind Al-Saleem. There are many terrorist attacks in Manchester, England which terrorists uses a wired cell phone to blow up buildings and people’s homes.

Ed Hoffman (played by Crowe) who is Ferris’s boss has his eye on Ferris keeping an eye on every move to make sure he is safe and alive. After Ferris lands himself in a small hospital after trying to catch the terrorists roaming the streets, Ferris falls in love with a nurse named Aisha who he became friends with at first.

During the movie, Aisha, Ferris’s future girlfriend/lover is kidnapped. Ferris blames terrorist leader Al Salim for taken her which he is protected in a top secret hideout. Ferris gets taken to Al Salim to help find Aisha. Does Al Salim an evil terrorist leader have Aisha? You’ll have to watch the movie yourself to find out ’cause I don’t want to reveal any spoilers ’cause there are shocks and twists in the movie.

My thoughts on the film? As usual Ridley Scott movies never dissapoint. He’s one of my favorite directors for many reasons. Ridley has a unique vision when he’s using the camera and telling stories. I really liked the story and the script for this film “Body of Lies”. It was more of a political film, to let the world know that there are terrorists still out there in this world today in real life.

The acting of Leo Dicaprio and Russell Crowe was of course, real good. Another reason I liked about this movie was how Ridley didn’t use too many big name stars. Most of the cast were unknowns. Russell and Leo were of course the only big names in the movie.

The story was sometimes shocking, it kept you guessing, it was unpredictable. While this is not the best Ridley Scott film ever made (I still think “American Gangster” is his best film), “Body of Lies” was very enjoyable. I really liked it. But it won’t be something I would watch again so I probably won’t buy the DVD.

Score for “Body of Lies” = *** (3 stars as in good)

The “Saw” series….overrated and boring…

Why do people enjoy these “Saw” movies so much? To me, I find them to be overrated and boring. I only saw the first two, and I’m like, “Meh, that’s enough Saw movies for me”. I won’t even see III, IV or V. It’s not that I’m scared. It’s not that I get grossed out or start to puke over blood and guts scene ’cause I very much enjoy that stuff.

I enjoy horror films. It’s one of my favorite genres to pay attention to. I FUCKING LOVE THE HORROR GENRE. I’ve been into the horror genre for years, pretty much ever since I was a child believe it or not. I enjoy scary and dark things. It’s what pumps me up and gets my mind going.

Many would think the “Saw” series is getting just as popular as Friday the 13th, Halloween and the Nightmare on Elm St. series. Well to  tell you the truth, the “Saw” series is not even in Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy’s league. The “Saw” series are all pretty much the same thing. Being trapped in some strange house with some guy trying to play this game with the group of kids trapped in. *yawn* You call that storytelling?

It’s understandable kids would enjoy the “Saw” films since they probably aren’t into the horror genre at all. There are way better horror films than “Saw”. If you look at my Top 20 horror films a few blogs back, I can name plenty of great horror films that I love.

I know a good horror movie when I see one and the “Saw” series aren’t good movies. I know a lot about the horror genre since I spent my life on it. When I was a kid, I’ve read all the Stephen King books, seen the Tales from the Crypt series on HBO back in the day, seen all kinds of R rated horror flicks when I was even underage as well.

There’s nothing special about the “Saw” series. It’s just bad storytelling, and bad acting as well. It ain’t even scary at all either. It is not an original story because these kids trapped in a house and trying to get out alive has been done over and over and over and over again so many times. The “Saw” movies were clearly made for the younger generation around the 20’s – 30’s age range. I just don’t get it. I don’t like the movies at all and there are better horror films out there.

The movie “Dead Silence” which is a horror film made by James Wan who is also the creator of the “Saw” series, “Dead Silence” is a much better film than “Saw”. “Dead Silence” I would say is a creepy film and the story was very well written. I would reccomend “Dead Silence” if you haven’t seen it  yet.

Those that support the “Saw” series, just don’t understand what true horror is all about and they just go see the movies for popcorn “entertainment”. That’s what “Saw” is to me, a popcorn entertainment movie, not a horror film. I know what makes a good horror film and a good horror story. Those who actually do get scared by watching the “Saw” series are probably new to the horror genre.
