The Beatles spent a lot of time rehearsing and recording for their album “Let it Be”. There was a day when Paul McCartney invites his wife and his daughter to try and brighten up the band members after working so hard. I think Paul brought little Heather in to cheer the band up some.
There was a funny moment in the doc when little Heather witnesses Yoko doing those weird chants and even Heather looked a little freaked out.
A few minutes later, Heather wanted to join in with the Beatles so she excitedly walks up to John’s mic and John looks at her, nodded his head letting her know it’s “okay” for her to sing with the Beatles.
To be honest, Heather was more enjoyable to listen to than Yoko, lmao. I thought this was one of the cool moments in the doc. It was funny.
So last night, I finished watching “The Beatles – Get Back” documentary on Disney Plus. It’s a 3 part documentary directed and produced by Peter Jackson. Yes, that Peter Jackson the same guy who directed the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the “King Kong” remake. Well Peter Jackson has been working on this documentary for a long time and he finally finished it and it’s now out on Disney Plus exclusively.
As a big Beatles nerd myself, I’ve been looking forward to it and now I’ve just seen it. Watched Parts 1 and 2 over the weekend, just finished Part III last night.
What are my thoughts on this Beatles doc? I freakin’ loved it! It was very good and I was impressed with Peter’s directing style. It’s quite different than his movie making and honestly, I think Peter is way better at making music documentaries and I hope he does a few more of them on different bands.
Anyhow, “Get Back” really focuses on the making of the “Let It Be” album and its famous rooftop concert that the Beatles did. During the making of this album, the Beatles wanted to document all of it for a future TV special. The original goal of the Beatles for this project was that they wanted to write and rehearse 14 songs for an album and perform the 14 songs live and for a TV special. Later on, though, plans sort of changed when George Harrison briefly quit the band. They were unsure where to play those 14 songs so they suggested the rooftop of their own building at Apple studios.
So the Beatles went up there on the Apple rooftop and played for a little bit. The original plan was to play the 14 songs on the rooftop but they were only able to play a few of them on the roof ’cause the city people bitched to the cops about the noise so they had to stop the show. Since Paul McCartney was committed to playing the 14 songs, they finished the rest of them in the studio.
Why did the Beatles choose to play on the rooftop of Apple? There was no reason actually, they just simply wanted to. They just went up there and did it. Even the people in the city streets loved the Beatles playing up there, not everyone liked it ’cause like always there will always be complainers and whiners so they got the cops to get them to stop the show. Even though the Beatles got in trouble with the cops, it didn’t seem to bother them at all ’cause after all that the Beatles were all smiles and laughing so obviously they were very proud they did that.
Anyway, even though it seems like it may be fun to play in a band… it’s not as fun as you might think it is. Being in a band can be overwhelming and tough. It takes a lot to keep a band together and to try and get all members to get along which is what Paul McCartney tried to do. The Beatles didn’t always get along. As you watch this documentary, you will see some pretty heated arguments with members of the band.
After watching this doc, it made me get new profound respect for Paul McCartney ’cause he was never my favorite Beatle. George Harrison was always my favorite but now my respect for Sir Paul grew pretty massively. Paul is my favorite Beatle now. Paul is a real musician. He definitely knows what he is doing musically, he knows what all the notes and chords sound like. Paul plays every instrument too. He’s mostly known for playing his small Hofner bass guitar but he also plays electric guitar, bass, piano and drums. Plus, Paul has a killer singing voice too.
After watching this Beatles doc, makes me want to get more of Paul McCartney solo albums and the albums he did with Wings. I’m gonna start getting some of that stuff soon.
Anyway, it was an interesting doc and definitely the best rock documentary I’ve seen in a long while.
I’m listening to the Beatles “Let It Be” album as I type this and I’m trying to figure out why the album only has 13 songs when the goal was 14. That’s because one song was dropped from the album release, “Don’t Let Me Down”. It’s a shame ’cause it’s an incredible song and the best song out of the 14. It turned out that Phil Spector dropped the song from the album release. If you want to get the “Let it Be” album with the song “Don’t Let Me Down” on it, you would get the alternative version, The Beatles “Let It Be… Naked” ’cause the song is on there.
It’s interesting to see the Beatles rehearse ’cause all they do is clown around and laugh most of the time. The movie did have some comedic moments, though.
My only negative is that Yoko can be quite annoying with her awful singing ’cause she sometimes joins in with her annoying chanting or whatever she does.
Other than that, this was a really good doc. Yeah, I’m a Beatles nerd myself. I have most of their albums and trying to get them all with only 5 more to go.
Man, I can’t believe people. Phil Spector, the legendary producer dies in prison. I can’t believe that so many people are actually mourning the guy especially a lot of musicians/bands and music lovers. Proves that people in this crazy world are so fucking stupid and brain dead.
Phil Spector was a madman and psychopath with so many mental issues… yet most people forgot the fact that the monster shot actress Lana Clarkson in the mouth at his own mansion. Yes, he shot her once but it was still a gruesome murder and she didn’t deserve that.
Truthfully, I think “most” people know that… many just won’t publicly admit it ’cause they are assholes and desperate for that kind of attention when someone legendary dies. Yes, Phil was a legend but he still shot and killed an innocent woman.
The fucking headlines, man… they won’t say it either. Some headlines in the press actually got it right but most of the mainstream media and the music press wants you to forget it happened.
This is just more proof that people are awful and society is so messed up, ya know????
It’s been said that Phil died of either covid19 or natural causes, which is it…. but who cares, though. Phil died in prison so he got what he deserved and Lana got her true justice and god bless her now. People want to celebrate the life of Phil Spector after his passing and not Lana Clarkson? Unbelievable. Fuck that murdering monster, he gets no respect from me.
I don’t care about that monster Phil Spector and it’s insane to me that so many do after what he did to that poor woman back in 2003. That’s the problem, people don’t care about murdered women nowadays.
I was kind of pissed when I saw people in mourning of Phil. People are crazy and insane, I tell ya. I had to rant about it in FB a little bit.
Out of curiosity, I’ve decided to read the full Quincy Jones interview at Vulture for myself since this article sent twitter into a frenzy. I can see why ’cause there are a lot of crazy shit in it. What kind of crazy shit?
Well lets see here… Quincy saying that the Beatles were horrible and couldn’t play. Talks trash about Michael Jackson and accuses him stealing songs. Talks trash about Donald Trump and accuses him of starting racism in America and claims to have dated Ivanka. This guy also thinks he knows who the real killer of JFK is and reveals the alleged killers name.
This guy even goes as far as trying to out Richard Pryor and Marlon Brando as homosexuals.
Wow! What a fucking asshole and a liberal nutjob! It’s a shame he would try and make Michael Jackson look bad… I mean, didn’t they used to be brothers like best friends or something?
It’s also funny that he would talk trash about the Beatles like that and I’m sure many Beatles fans are upset with him now.
I’m sure the Trump family aren’t happy with Quincy making claims about him dating Ivanka… hopefully Ivanka herself will shoot that claim down ’cause that would be funny.
What’s even more disturbing is that Quincy is trying to out Richard Pryor and Marlon Brando as homosexuals… Quincy even made wild claims about Pryor and Brando slept with each other! Yes, Pryor’s widow may have confirmed it’s true but that doesn’t make it true either. Quincy and Pryor’s widow could be out for more attention it looks like. I think the rumors of Pryor and Brando being gay are all bullshit. Not true at all.
Quincy is just a rich buffoon who sits in his mansion trying to think of ways how to get more attention for himself. I don’t care how famous and legendary Quincy is… no doubt the guy is an asshole in real life. Not all famous people are good people. The world of fame is crazy. You’ll meet a lot of egos and narcissists out there for sure. Quincy is one of them. It’s hilarious that Quincy calls Trump a narcissist when he should look in the mirror.
Quincy is a douchebag and I hope I’m not the only one that thinks so. He just thinks that being rich and famous makes him entitled to say whatever he wants. That is all.
George Harrison has always been my favorite Beatle but I listened to John’s music over the years. I like John’s solo stuff and the songs he wrote with the Beatles. Everybody wants to post John’s “Imagine” which is a great tune, no doubt but my favorite Lennon song is “Working Class Hero”.
It seems that Ellie Goulding, a pop singer from the UK will be the artist for the opening theme song of James Bond’s next film, “Spectre”. She drops a big hint in the photo above leaving Abbey Road Studios. Remember now, Adelle recorded her “Skyfall” theme at the same studio.
Weird. I never really heard of Ellie Goulding until now.
Heather Mills, the ex-wife of Paul McCartney appeared on “The Late Late Show” and she publicly slams her ex-husband on national TV.
Heather Mills says that Sir Paul had to do a collaboration with Kanye and Rihanna so he can stay relevant as a solo artist. She says he did it so he can still be remembered ’cause half of the kids she sees still don’t know who Sir Paul is.
She kind of brings up valid points. Honestly, I never liked Sir Paul as a solo artist anyways. Paul was only good when he did all those albums with the band Wings and of course, the James Bond theme song, “Live and Let Die” but other than that he hasn’t been relevant since then.
I think Sir Paul collaborated with Kanye and Rihanna as an excuse to keep himself in the mainstream.
I was never that big of a fan of Sir Paul’s solo career to begin with. George Harrison has always been my favorite Beatle.
Probably one of my favorite songs off the “White Album” other than “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Helter Skelter”. This is the best album by the Beatles too, I think.
34 years ago today, we lost one of the Beatles and that is none other than, John Lennon. John and Yoko were returning to their NYC apartment where they were staying and John was shot by Mark David Chapman as the couple was just entering the building. John was rushed to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead later on.
Like most, I’m a pretty big Beatles fan. I have most of their records and trying to collect them all. I’m also a huge fan of John’s solo stuff as well.
