“Breaking Bad” it is, on Netflix…

As soon as I finish watching “24” on Netflix, I’ll immediately start watching “Breaking Bad” on Netflix. The reason is, “Breaking Bad – Season 5” will start airing at the end of this summer in 2012. So I have plenty of time to catch up with, “Breaking Bad” before Season 5. There were quite a few people who’ve been trying to talk me into start watching, “Breaking Bad”, and I think I’m gonna, definitely. Looks like a great show and I never saw it before.

Film Review: Haywire

Starring: Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas
Directed By: Steven Soderbergh

So here’s the first film of 2012, that I’ve just seen today. Before the film, I picked up a few video games, I picked a pre-owned copy “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” and “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim”. I haven’t started those two video games yet, I am going to wait a while ’cause there are still a few games, I need to play before them. On with my review of, “Haywire”.

Plot/synopsis: Beautiful freelance covert operative Mallory Kane is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family, and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

Gina Carano, a sexy MMA Strikeforce fighter, has been getting a lot of popularity in the sport, that she gets a major leading role in a huge action film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Steven Soderbergh is the director of such movies as “Erin Brockovich”, the Oceans trilogy, “Traffic”, “Solaris”, “Contagion”, etc. Sodergh is a director who I’ve admired for a longtime. I’ve seen most of his movies.

This film, “Haywire”, is getting mixed reviews, but I liked this film quite a lot. It told a good plot, and the directing style was pretty unique like Soderbergh’s always is. There have been a lot of actresses starring the leading roles in action films over the years but none of them, really had the athleticism to be considered an action star. Gina Carano is an actual athlete who has it all. She has the sexy looks, a fit body, and she’s also a talented athlete. Gina was perfect for the role and she acted well in the movie too.

The fight scenes she did in this movie, makes you wanting more up ahead. She’ll make you cheer for her as if you’re watching an actual MMA fight which is what the film felt like. During the fight scenes, there was no music playing during the scenes, which is one reason they made it fun. They made her look like a tough badass chick you don’t want to mess with. She made it look like that a man wouldn’t even dare try to pick a fight with a woman, or she’ll kick your ass.

I was also impressed with the supporting cast. We could do without Channing Tatum ’cause I’m not a fan of his acting, but I did like Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, and Bill Paxton being part of the film who all delivered excellent performances.

I think this film is going to be a trilogy ’cause there is more to the story that needs to be told. The ending left open for another movie, of course. I thought it was a fun action flick. My only disappointment was that we need a naked Gina in these films, or show more skin at least. There was a little cleavage here and there, but they only showed them a quick few seconds. If Steven’s goal with these movies is to be sexy as hell, he needs to make her even more sexier for the sequel.

Score for “Haywire” = *** (3 stars as in “Good”)

RIP: Etta James 1938 – 2012

Etta James, a legendary US singer, who sang a variety of genres over the years, she sang just about everything from blues to R&B to rock n’ roll to gospel and jazz, she passed away today, after a battle of leukemia. Etta is famous for hit songs such as, “Dance With Me Henry”, “At Last”, “Tell Mama”, and “I’d Rather Go Blind”.

Etta, first started singing at the age of 5, and she got her start at singing for church choirs in Los Angeles. At the age of 14, Etta started listening to doo wop music after her mother died, and Etta formed her own musical group, the Creolettes. Her talent was first discovered by Johnny Otis (who also passed away just a few days ago), and he was the one who helped get the Creolettes signed to Modern Records.

She started a solo career in 1960 and she continued to perform & make music ever since then before her death. Etta James was 73 years old.

– In 1969: Led Zeppelin appeared at the Wheaton Youth Center, Wheaton, during their first North American tour. Some reports suggest that only 55 fans attended this show, (if so, this would make it the smallest audience they ever played to). This show was on a Monday and the night of Richard Nixon’s inauguration. Zeppelin were paid $250 to appear.

– In 1969: Bruce Springsteen had two of his poems published in the Ocean County College Literary Yearbook Seascapes. Springsteen was in his second semester at the Toms River, New Jersey College.

– In 1982: During an Ozzy Osbourne concert in Des Moines, Iowa, a member of the audience threw bat onto the stage. Stunned by the light, the bat lay motionless, and thinking it was a rubber fake, the singer picked it up and attempted to bite its head off. As he did this, the bat started to flap its wings and Ozzy soon realized it wasn’t fake but in fact a living thing. After the show Ozzy was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for rabies shots.

– In 1983: Def Leppard released their third studio album ‘Pyromania’ which featured new guitarist Phil Collen and was produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange. The album has now sold over 10 million copies in the US.

– In 1988: The Beatles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Yoko, Sean, and Julian Lennon all attend. Paul McCartney does not attend, sending instead a letter stating that continuing business differences with the other ex-Beatles was the reason for his absence.

– In 1997: Ben and Jerry’s introduced ‘Phish food’, a new flavor of ice cream named after the rock group Phish. The ingredients were chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, caramel and fish-shaped fudge.

– In 2002: George Harrison had the posthumous UK No.1 single with the re-release of the 1971 former No.1 ‘My Sweet Lord’. Harrison’s single replaced Aaliyah’s ‘More Than A Woman’, the only time in chart history that one deceased artist had taken over from another at No.1.

– In 2003: 8 Mile, starring Eminem toppled The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers from its four-week hold at the top of the UK box office. The story of a Detroit rapper took £4,440,334 at 423 cinemas in the UK and Ireland.

This could be the reason that the government could ignore our protests…

I know a lot of folks out there including myself are trying our best to protest against the government from signing the SOPA/PIPA bills, but they could ignore the protests completely, and make those bills into law after this….

Read all about it, here.

This story has been in facebook and twitter all day.

While I do respect copyrighted music. I was never a pirate. I never stole music online. I’m always willing to pay music from Itunes and record stores. I always respected the artists work ’cause they worked hard for what they do and they deserve to get paid.

The reason I’m helping to protest against SOPA/PIPA ’cause those bills could shut down Youtube and could be a danger to bloggers like me if those bills are signed.

I understand that these bills are all about protecting the owners work but there are better ways of handling this instead of sending innocent people to prison for many years. That’s why we’re all outraged.

Kev

EDIT TO ADD: Hopefully, President Obama will do something about these SOPA/PIPA bills and throw them out for us. If he actually cares for us American people and want to make a “change”, he should do this for us, but I doubt he’ll do anything. He better not allow them to get signed.

EDIT TO ADD part 2: I don’t know much about Megaupload, ’cause I never used the site before.

Report: Is William Shatner done with Priceline commercials finally???

Oh, give me a break. This is just another one of their jokes. I’m not buying it at all that the Shat is done with Priceline. It’s just to help hype up the upcoming Superbowl, appearances. They’re not fooling anybody, lol….

Report: The Boss unveils new album title, tracklisting and new song…

Bruce Springstee, the Boss of rock n’ roll, finally unveiled some stuff of the new album. They are still continuing the E Street Band, since after the death of Clarence Clemons. The name of their new album is titled, “Wrecking Ball”, and will hit stores, March 6th. Judging by the album title and song titles, looks like the music on the album is going to be pretty angry, so Bruce definitely does have a message to say. He also won’t give up the political songwriting in the lyrics.

Read all the info at Bruce’s website, you can also hear a new song off the new album, “We Take Care of Our Own”, here.

I’m a big fan of the Boss but honestly, his political songs are getting old. I wish he would write about other things, looking forward to the new album though.

Report: Ouch! Sammy Hagar slams Van Halen!!!

Sammy Hagar have played with Van Halen for a lot of years in the past, so he has all the right to talk shit about the band all he wants. Turns out, that Sammy Hagar, the Red Rocker, even agrees with the fans that the Van Halen new single, “Tattoo” is not that great. Sammy says that Eddie is a great guitar player but is terrible at songwriting.

Read what Sammy has to say, here.

In reality, you can’t really judge a band just because you think their first single is bad, you still haven’t heard the rest of the new album yet. Maybe the rest of the songs on the album will be better than, “Tattoo”. I’m still gonna buy the album when it comes out. I’ll listen to the actual album first, and then I’ll give my honest opinion on it.
