RIP: Phoebe Snow 1952 – 2011

Phoebe Snow, a legendary folk singer, most famous for her anthem song, “Poetry Man” died today, due to complications from a stroke she suffered last year. When she was a teenager, she bought a Martin 00018 acoustic steel string guitar and played almost every club in Greenwich Village in, New York City. The name Phoebe Snow is a staged name that was originally taken from a fictional character created by Earnest Almo Calkins as a way to help promote the Lackawanna Railroad.

In 1972, she was signed to a record deal when an A&R rep saw her perform at the Bitter End club in NYC. The A&R guy was so blown away by her performance that he signed her on the spot. Toward the 90’s and the 2000’s years, she appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show many times, and performed at his wedding. She also performed for Bill Clinton’s, Camp David in 1999. Phoebe Snow was 58 years old.

About John Lithgow’s comeback to the movies, he is coming back!!!

I was just doing a little research on actor comebacks in the list for the previous post and I just found out that John Lithgow is making a major comeback to the big screen. He has a major role for the upcoming, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, movie, but wikipedia or IMDB didn’t say what character he is playing. After finding this article, John is playing James Franco’s father in the film. Since John is playing a guy who has Alzheimer’s, expect for some really GOOD acting chops by John that could be Oscar worthy for an supporting actor award. Now that I know that John is in this movie, I’m really looking forward to it now. I forgot he signed on to this movie.

Top 10 Actors that need a comeback to the movies…

There are a huge number of actors that worked on film for most of their lives and suddenly, they just vanish and disappear. No longer doing film. You don’t even know if the actor is taking a hiatus or have retired for good.

Here are the top 10 actors, that I think that need a comeback to the movies.

  1. Kurt Russell – Kurt hasn’t done a new movie since Tarantino’s “Death Proof”, but expect him to return soon, he’s been signing to new movie roles lately.
  2. Robin Williams – He hasn’t done anything new since “Old Dogs” with John Travolta in 2009. He has talked about wanting to come back to movies before as he’s been wanting to be the Riddler for the new “Batman” flick which never happened.
  3. Paul Reubens or Pee Wee Herman – He should be returning to the big screen very soon. He’s working on a new Pee Wee film with Judd Apattow.
  4. Bruce Campbell – The former Evil Dead star has been doing the TV show, “Burn Notice”, but I would like him to make a comeback to the big screen. His last big screen movie was “My Name is Bruce”.
  5. Patrick Stewart – The former “Star Trek – TNG” and “X-Men” star hasn’t done anything new in a long long while, why? Because he’s been doing a lot of theatre as of late. I would like him to do a new big screen movie again.
  6. Gene Hackman – Whatever happened to this guy? He hasn’t done anything in years. He’s almost 80 years old, but he was a great actor and would like him to come back for another movie sometime.
  7. Rick Moranis – The former “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, and “Ghostbusters” star retired way back in 1997, but if “Ghostbusters III” ever gets the greenlight, you can expect him to reprise his role as Louis Tully for one last time. I hope he’ll be up for the role.
  8. John Lithgow – He’s still acting, he’s been doing a lot of TV. His latest TV work, he did the last couple of seasons of “Dexter”. I’d like to see him in a big screen role again, he’s a fine actor.
  9. Joaquin Phoenix – Enough said?
  10. Charlie Sheen – With the huge popularity he has now, and him being all over the news, this would be a great time for a Charlie Sheen comeback to the movies. I loved him in the movies back in the day, “Platoon”, “Wall Street”, “Men at Work”, “Major League”, etc. This would help the box office, if he made a comeback to film. Will he star in “Wall Street 3” or “Major League 3”? If a “Two and a Half Men” return doesn’t work out for him, hopefully, he’ll return to the big screen.

That’s it. Enjoy the list.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all blog readers. Enjoy your chocolate bunnies or ham dinners or whatever you got going on celebrating this religious Holiday. What did I do for today?

Just did some work on homemade shelves that I had other people help me build. Just sanding them and painted one of the shelves. We built homemade wall hanging shelves to put in this room. A homemade built CD shelf, DVD shelf, and a book shelf. I just painted the CD shelf today. Will be putting another coat of paint on it tomorrow. Now that’s what I spent my day doing, actually did some work.

After a nice prime rib dinner, I’m now relaxing for the rest of this evening. Probably going to watch some more “Dexter” before “Game of Thrones” comes on tonight. I didn’t feel like playing guitar or working out since I did all that work on the shelves today. The Greenwich Y was closed today anyway because of the Holiday. I’m going to hit the Greenwich Y tomorrow.

Not much to blog about today since entertainment news is slow on the Holidays. No Superman or Batman movie news yet, they must be taking the Easter Holiday off too.

Music is not always a happy world…

Some people always wondered why I’m always brutally honest about “music” and “bands”. Well, here’s the thing. A lot of people out there mistakenly think that the world of music is such a “happy” and “lovely” world, all the time. Yes, I agree that music can be a lovely and happy thing, but not always. You have to be real about stuff, ya know. The second you’re brutally honest about something, like say something bad about a band that a lot of people like or something they are doing, you’re all of a sudden, the badguy just because you were honest. This is what I always tried to do about music. Bring out the truth about “things” that people don’t understand.

Music is one crazy world. Obsessive fans will always side with the band, no matter what you say about them. That’s how people interact in the music world.

A lot of bands and acoustic acts, obsess with opportunity. Trying to get to that next level in music. A lot of them want to move forward and get bigger opportunities. As I always say, I just want to enjoy myself. I don’t care about “fame”, “popularity”, “money” or “being a rock star”. I just do this for fun and make myself happy, pure and simple.

I just like writing my songs, playing the gigs, I’m set. That’s all I need. That’s all I want.

This is why some people think I’m a “negative” person when it comes to music discussion, ’cause I like to bring the truth out about things. This is just the way I am. You need to have different feelings when it comes to music ’cause it would be boring if it was a “happy’ world, all the time. The music world is not always “happy”. Everyone is positive about music just to be friendly, not everyone have to be that kind of person.

Report: Sam Raimi dying to get Hilary Swank for a role in “Oz: the Great & Powerful”…

This is an interesting story, I gotta post this. Sam Raimi is dying to get two time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank, as one of the elder witches for “Oz: The Great & Powerful”, but Disney disagrees with that casting and they want Michelle Williams instead. Sam is still fighting back at Disney trying to get Hilary for the film.

This isn’t the first time that Sam fought for a certain actor he wanted for a movie, because it was him that wanted Tobey Maguire for “Spiderman” and Columbia Pictures wanted Wes Bently originally. Sam won the fight against Columbia and he got Tobey Maguire for Spiderman.

So maybe Sam has a chance in being successful in winning Hilary for the “Oz” film?

Read more on it, here.

I take it that Sam might have a short temper problem. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he’ll beg for it until they say yes. I agree Hilary would be a great pick, she’s a phenomenal actress and one of my favorites. She would make a great witch.

Hope Disney does the smart thing and let Sam have Hilary. I’m sure Sam will win once again. If Disney doesn’t let him have her, then that makes them greedy douchebags. Kudos on Sam, fight on!

BREAKING NEWS: Well, so much for Lindsay Lohan’s acting career…

Well looks like Lindsay Lohan could possibly no longer be doing, the “Gotti: Three Generations” movie that she was signed to, because she’s headed back to jail. Sentenced for 120 days, probation violation.

Who knows if she’ll serve the full 120 days though, I doubt it. She’ll find a way to make her sentence a lot shorter like she usually does with her team of lawyers.

Playstation Network is down and it’s pissing me off too…

The Playstation Network is creating controversy all over the web, because it’s been down the last few days. I hear ya, I’m frustrated that it’s still down myself. The Playstation Network refuses to say why they’ve been down, but it’s obvious they’ve been hacked again. They must of gotten hacked pretty badly. Everyone knows they’ve been hacked again. Hopefully they fix it this weekend.

I was going to play some more “Gran Turismo 5” today but that game takes the PNS in order to play it. I could install the new “Mortal Kombat” game and maybe I could play that instead, hopefully that doesn’t take the PNS to play.

Report: Robert Zemeckis to direct a live action movie that will star Denzel Washington…

Robert Zemeckis hasn’t done a live action flick in a long time, right? His last few movies have been nothing but animated films. Zemeckis has finally decided to make a movie titled, “Flight”, that will star Denzel Washington. Denzel will play a commercial airline pilot in which the plane malfunctions and saves the day with his heroic flying.

Deadline, reports.

This movie definitely sounds like it was inspired from the Captain Sully story. I’m glad Zemeckis is finally back to live action ’cause I love his live action flicks.
