Jay Reatard’s “Watch Me Fall”….

Today I downloaded Jay Reatard’s new album, “Watch Me Fall” from Itunes. I never heard of Jay Reatard’s solo stuff but I have heard his older music with the Reatards band before, though. When I listened to “Watch Me Fall”, the songs on the disc are very short. He wrote songs for like 1 or 2 minutes long or over. I don’t think he ever wrote a song that’s over 4 minutes long. The kid was a fuckin’ genius. I loved his music. I’m not saying that ’cause he died, I really mean it by heart. The songs on the disc are actually very mellow. He still has this punk sound of course, but it’s so different than his earlier music. The songs are pretty rockin’ and tight. He may not be the greatest singer ever, but the way I see it with music, no one needs to be a great singer to write great songs. Vocals are not important to me. Never was. I don’t care if the singer sings really really good or sucks really bad, as long as they can write killer songs, I’m a fan. His voice fits the music and entertaining to hear. “Watch Me Fall” is a fantastic record.

You won’t be able to find this album in the record stores since Jay Reatard was an indie artist, not a major label act…but I’m sure you can order it online or download it from Itunes. Jay Reatard was a true punk music artist. Green Day and Blink 182 is not punk. Jay was. Jay kept the old school punk sound which is what punk is supposed to sound like today. We lost a great talent and people don’t realize how much of a genius this kid really was. RIP Jay.

Report: Was Jay Reatard murdered? His death is being investigated as homicide…

Doing research on Jay Reatard’s past, he definitely was a very healthy guy. He never did drugs or drank alcohol his whole life. So why would a young 29 year old suddenly pass away for no reason? Murder could explain  this reason. Memphis police are in search of a suspect who could be responsible for Jay’s death.

If it is murder, I hope his killer is found and brought to justice.

Jay seemed like a very happy guy living life to the fullest. Still kind of sad about him being gone and can’t believe it.

Report: Johnny Cash to release “American VI: Ain’t No Grave” Feb. 26th…

Johnny Cash’s label, American Recordings LLC, has officially announced they will release Johnny Cash’s final studio album before his death. “American VI: Ain’t No Grave” was recorded a year before Cash died in 2003. The album was never released. Rick Rubin produced that album. The album is set for release Feb. 26th which I will sure pick up that day ’cause I’m a huge Johnny Cash fanatic. He’s such an inspiration to me. If Johnny was still alive, I’m sure he would keep going with those “American” albums.

Now that you think of it. It’s understandable why they wouldn’t release the album around the time of his death ’cause look at the title of this album. It would be offensive around that difficult time he was gone. That’s probably the reason why the label didn’t release it at the time. This album release is a celebration of Johnny Cash’s birthday which he will turn 78 on the day this album is released.

Report: Slash keeps turning down GNR reunion offer, no matter the price…

Former GNR man, Slash, revealed that he kept getting offers from Axl Rose to rejoin Guns N’ Roses, ever since Slash quit. Slash said he wants nothing to do with the band anymore. He’s happy with the legacy Slash created with GN’R from the past. He feels that if he rejoins them will ruin that legacy. Axl kept offering Slash loads of cash to try and talk him to rejoin, but Slash kept turning the offers down, no matter the price.

NME Reports:

Good on Slash, indeed. A Guns N’ Roses reunion with the original members should never happen ’cause it would ruin the legacy and Axl is ruining it by continuing on. “Chinese Democracy” was a pretty good album, I liked it, but it should have been an Axl Rose solo album, not under the Gn’R name.

Report: Jimi Hendrix to release “Valleys Of Neptune”…

Since there are only 4 Jimi Hendrix studio albums, now there can be a fifth one. The label plans on releasing an unreleased record titled, “Valleys Of Neptune”. A 12 song album featuring the final sessions of the Jimi Hendrix Experience original members. The label wants people to know that this isn’t a lost album found. It was meant to be released before Hendrix’s death. This was supposed to be the follow up to “Electric Ladyland”.

As a massive Jimi Hendrix fan, and inspiration to my own guitar playing, I’m excited for this. I’ll be buying it when it comes out definitely.

Thought: Ke$ha and the fans that brought her to the mainstream…

Everywhere on the internet, you see people talking about this new pop artist named, Ke$ha. I’m like, what? Scratching my head. So I went to youtube to listen to that “Tik Tok” song, out of curiosity. I listened to it at least a few times. I’m like, what the fuck, dude. How can people support this crap? This genre, female electronica/pop seems to be a new trend in the music industry today. Over the years of music, genres changes. Rock n’ roll tries to take over the mainstream of today’s music, but rock fails because the world is so hung up on female  pop. I don’t like Lady Gaga, don’t like Rihanna anymore and here comes another one, Ke$ha. I think it’s lame they put a dollar sign in her name. This is another manufactured pop star made by the industry that is not even real.

I would have to say that “Tik Tok” is probably the worst song I ever heard. I hope Ke$ha’s music career fails fast. Her singing is not great and the music is not great overall. She sucks. It’s fact, not an opinion, FACT! People who buy her album is just wasting their money.

People should be paying attention to real music artists like Wilco or Neil Young, someone that has real talent but nope, these high school and college kids would rather listen to kiddie pop and rap instead. Why do people listen to this Ke$ha garbage? It’s more evidence that people don’t know what good music is anymore.

Happy Birthday – Elvis….

Ever wonder what it would be like if Elvis Presley was still alive today? I think myself that all the time. What would Elvis be doing today if he is still alive? I’m no psychic, of course but, I can see him still being the same Elvis Presley. Still doing the things he always did. I’m sure he would still be making records, touring, and making movies like he always had when he was alive back then.

If he was still around making music, what genre would he be doing? I still see him doing the same mix of rock n’ roll, country and gospel…but with today’s music technology, his music today would have sounded a little bit different.

If Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King and Neil Young are still rockin’ and rollin’ today, then Elvis would be too.

I’m sure Elvis would be doing collaborations with many music artists from the past, especially with Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty who were all massive admirers.

I’m sure Elvis will still be dominating the Billboard and winning a bunch of Grammy’s, and all that. It’s an interesting thing to think about what it would be like if Elvis was still alive. The world would certainly be different if he was. Especially the music world.

RIP The King of Rock N’ Roll.

Ten Biggest Egos in music…who are they???

When talking about egos in music…fans would think the usual stuff…the dude from Nickelback, the guys in Oasis, and Metallica. You have to look at reality. Even if you’re a huge fan of the music artist you enjoy, you have to admit that they have an ego problem.

Here are my choices on the biggest egos in the music industry:

  • U2 – A lot of people like ’em, but you have to admit, they have quite a problem. Doing all these stadium shows, talking about Africa too much, shutting out fans for a free show in Berlin by creating a wall around them, etc. Sorry Bono, you dudes top the list.
  • Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails – Popular band, but you can’t seem to see the fact that Trent is a huge douche. Did you realize that he just ditched all you fans by quitting live shows? He’s only 45 years old and he’s quitting live shows? Don’t worry. Trent will bring the Nine Inch Nails back to the live stage when they get an opportunity they can’t pass up.
  • John Mayer – Is he a musician or a celebrity? Which is it, John?
  • Jennifer Hudson – Is she getting all these opportunities because some of her family members were murdered? I used to feel sorry for her and used to like her, but I don’t care anymore.
  • Joe Satriani – When he sued Coldplay accusing the band of stealing “Viva La Vida” from one of his songs, I think that gives the Satch, an ego award.
  • Robert Plant – Love the guy, but he has a huge ego problem, I’ll admit that. I’ll never forget his responses everytime he shot down a Led Zeppelin tour.
  • Rihanna – She’s been acting different.
  • Courtney Love – Need I say more? Is she even a musician?
  • Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith – Ever since Steven Tyler’s fall, these two have been acting like huge egos in the media lately. I call Joe Perry being the BIGGER ego than Steven. Geez dude, who cares if Steven is having problems with drugs or alcohol. What bands out there doesn’t have that problem? They all do. If Steven wants back in the band, let him.
  • Dave Mustaine of Megadeth – Everyone talks about Metallica having a huge ego problem, but I disagree. I don’t see the boys in Metallica having an ego at all but one guy that has a huge ego is Dave Mustaine. I’ve read plenty of his interviews through Guitar World magazine and they are hilarious. He’s kind of a delusional guy living in his own world but Dave is a talented songwriter and guitar player though, I’ll give him that.

Report: Chris Cornell and wife threatening to sue craigslist over Brittany Murphy video…

Craigslist, the popular anonymous advertising site, is in more legal trouble. Chris Cornell and his wife Vicky, are furious over a Brittany Murphy video that has surfaced for sale at craigslist. On the video, had private wedding footage of the Chris and Vicky wedding. In the wedding video had Brittany Murphy partying on it since she was in the wedding as maid of honour. As some of you may or may not know, Chris Cornell and Brittany Murphy were very close friends. The video was immediately pulled off the site, imagining that Chris’s team of lawyers sent them “cease and desist” letters. The Cornell team claims the video was a victim of stolen copyright and argue it’s a federal crime. The Cornell’s wants craigslist to track down the person responsible for stealing the video.

More on it here:

We better hope that wedding video is copyrighted, if the judge finds that it isn’t, then Chris won’t be able to do anything about it legally.
