5 positive things to say about Scott Weiland…

The mainstream media and some music fans wants to say all kinds of negative stuff about Scott Weiland. Over the years, I supported the man the best I could and he always had my back and support almost most of the time. I would always try to defend the man too. No matter what anybody thought of Scott, I always supported the man. I’ve always loved Scott’s music since the days when STP started coming out in the 90’s. He’s been a hero to me since high school.

What are 5 things about Scott that are positive about him?

  • He was a great vocalist, musical genius and a great live performer too:  Love him or hate him all you want to, you can’t deny that the man is one of the greatest rock frontmen of all time. The man really knew how to sing. When he sings, his phrasing is so good and he knew how to make his vocals sound melodic. He doesn’t just sing along with the guitar riff like most singers do, this guy actually SINGS and did it well. He was also one of the best live performers around and knew how to put on a show ’cause he was a showman and entertainer.
  • He had a real passion for music:  Even though the doors kept closing on him with STP and Velvet Revolver, he just kept going musically with either his solo career or the Wildabouts. He had a big passion for music for sure and you can’t deny that. The man loved what he did and he showed it.
  • He appreciated his fans & supporters: Scott was really good with his fanbase. He appreciated them all. He would interact with fans online with his instagram/facebook/twitter and all that stuff. Plus, he is willing to meet fans out in public and take photos/sign autographs or whatever. Scott was a pretty classy guy.
  • He gave the best interviews: Scott always gave the best interviews in the music press ’cause I’ve read a lot of them. He always gave honest and intelligent answers. I’ve always enjoyed reading or listening to his interviews. I’ll admit that sometimes his interviews can get pretty weird but that’s because he was probably high or drunk on something but other than that, he can give some really cool interviews.
  • He was a pretty strong and tough dude:  He may have had all kinds of negative stuff thrown at him but he knew how to stay above it all. Even though he didn’t get along with STP and the Velvet Revolver, he kept on keepin’ on. Staying strong and lived life the way he wanted to.

That’s it. I didn’t think he deserved to be called a “trainwreck” and all that stuff ’cause we all have our problems. Despite his problems, he was a good man.

Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts “Blaster” album is actually really really good!

12313875_10153327745563131_8985405902396290441_n

I’ve decided that I’m gonna celebrate the music of Scott Weiland this weekend by listening to everything he did. His stuff with the Stone Temple Pilots, The Velvet Revolver and his solo records. The first album I decided to listen to was the Wildabouts album, “Blaster” that was just released earlier this year.

“Blaster” surprisingly was a really good album and I think I’m gonna wanna get my own copy soon. It has great guitar playing and Scott’s singing on it is killer like always. It’s a shame. The Wildabouts was a good band and it’s a shame their career was short-lived. It looks like that band is gonna be done for good now due to Scott’s passing, Jeremy Brown’s passing and the arrest of their bass player. This band had the potential to become huge but that’s life, ya know? It’s a shame they lasted for one album and a shame that this album is the final album before Scott’s death.

Like I said though, I think there will be more music of Scott in the future. Could there be more unreleased music of STP, The Velvet Revolver and the Wildabouts? Expect all that to happen real soon. I’m sure Scott had plenty of unreleased material over the years. They have to look through the vault to see what they can find. I’m sure this won’t be the last of Scott’s music, there will be more.

Back to “Blaster”, it was a great album and you should check it out yourself.

Will STP release a new album of unreleased material of Scott’s songs? I think they will at some point…

The guys in STP sent out a statement about Scott’s sudden passing. Letting the world know that the surviving members still care for Scott which is nice to see. Like I said in a post before, even though Scott and the other guys had a tough time getting along over the years, they always loved each other like brothers. I think the other guys in STP kicked Scott out of the band ’cause they want what is best for him and they wanted Scott to get well, ya know?

On a side note… I think the surviving members will honor Scott in someway like release a new STP album of unreleased material with Scott singing. I can see that happening ’cause I’m pretty sure STP has plenty of unreleased material they put aside over the years. Songs that didn’t make the past albums. We’ll wait to see what happens.

Scott Weiland was on crack, not heroin…

Ya know, if Scott was on heroin then he wouldn’t be out in public at all. He’d be out in hiding laying down all day ’cause heroin slows your body down so he had to be on something else. Scott probably got turned on to drugs again ’cause of the Wildabouts. Did the Wildabouts did drugs together? They probably did ’cause I’m sure they were hard partiers for sure. Drugs killed their guitarist, Jeremy Brown.

This should be a wake up call to Barack Obama ’cause this could happen to him too. Hey Barack, you listening, fella? You dumb crackhead, you.

RIP: Scott Weiland 1967 – 2015

While this was bound to happen, we can not deny that Scott Weiland was one of the best rock frontmen of all time. He was a talented singer and one of the best live performers we’ve ever had. I had the opportunity to see STP live in concert once with Scott fronting and it’s a show I’ll never forget. I grew up listening to STP. I was in high school when STP entered the Seattle grunge movement and I’m like… wow, who are these guys? I remember when I first bought STP’s album, “Core”, I played that album to death on my CD player then I continued to listen to all of their records.

Honestly, though, Scott’s death didn’t surprise me. Remember, before his sudden passing, Scott wasn’t looking too good at all. Scott kept claiming that he was clean for 13 years but you know it was a flat out lie. He was definitely back on the drugs again, no doubt.

1) It was probably the reason he was kicked out of STP in the first place ’cause he probably got back on the drugs (heroin probably)

2) When he did interviews, he was looking frail and tired.

3) Scott’s disastrous “Vaseline” performance with the Wildabouts was a pretty good indication that he became an addict again.

We’ll know for sure whether or not Scott was back on the drugs once the toxicology report comes out.

While I’m sure Scott had a lot of problems with the guys in STP, not getting along and all, I’m sure the Deleo Brothers and Eric still loved him and cared for him, though. Like everyone else, I’m sure the surviving members of STP are bummed about his passing too ’cause Scott helped rise STP into fame and stardom.

Today’s a sad day and a huge loss in rock n’ roll for sure. Like I said, I grew up listening to STP and I’m a fan of Velvet Revolver as well. Scott was 48 years old.

Dream Theater names their next album, “The Astonishing”, will be a double album too…

The mighty, Dream Theater finally finished their next album and they just revealed the title. It will be called “The Astonishing”. It’ll be a double album too, it looks like. It also looks like it’s gonna be a concept album, kind of like the Who kind of thing where the whole album tell a story. The songs on the album looks like are gonna be stories and will have fictional characters.

While there are many tracks on the album, I’m sure most of them will be spoken word stuff telling the story and many of the songs will be just regular songs with James Labrie singing on them. It’s gonna be like a theatrical kind of album kind of like The Who “Tommy”, Pink Floyd “The Wall” and stuff like that.

I can’t wait for the next Dream Theater album as I’m sure it will be pretty epic. They’re one of my favorite bands right now as I’ve been listening to them for a pretty long time. Before the release of Apple Music streaming, I was trying to collect all of Dream Theater’s albums but since Apple Music is here… I got to listen to the rest of their discography. Dream Theater is pretty phenomenal and they’re kind of underrated. They aren’t a mainstream band when they should be.

First Scott Stapp goes into meltdown on facebook, now Sinead O’ Connor…

Those facebook “like” pages that are being run by famous people should be really used to focus on their careers. They shouldn’t be used as their personal blog. I understand that the internet is a good tool to vent and get things off of your system but to rant about what goes on in your personal life is not a good idea. I’ve seen real people like us that went into meltdown on facebook before. I’ve seen people in my facebook venting about how much their life sucks and I’ve seen possible suicide notes get thrown on facebook as well. It’s crazy, ya know? Facebook is a public place and when people are having problems in their personal lives, they can’t help themselves but vent. In the world of the internet, you’re gonna see a lot of whacky people on here for sure.

https://www.facebook.com/sineadoconnor/?fref=ts

I was never a Sinead O’ Connor fan, never really liked her music but I wish her well and hope she gets the help that she needs. People are shamefully picking on her when they shouldn’t have. Yeah, this woman is a bit of a whack job but she has her problems like the rest of us.

That’s the thing when celebs go into meltdowns… why? Because it shows that they are really human and they have feelings too. The world of fame isn’t so glorifying and perfect as people think. You may wanna think twice before getting famous if you’re thinking about becoming a rock star. That lifestyle could “overwhelm” you for sure. It’ll get to you, the workload. That’s why a lot of musicians got themselves into drugs, alcohol and why some of them have become suicidal. All that stuff. Fame maybe fun but if you’re not careful with it, fame can destroy your life.

Jimmy Page planning possible instrumental album next year…

Now that Jimmy Page has finally finished all of them Led Zeppelin remasters, he’s ready to get back into music again. There will never be another Led Zeppelin reunion but that’s still not stopping Jimmy from going solo again.

Jimmy reveals what his plans will be for his next solo album. He’s planning his next solo album to be all instrumental and he’s planning to have all kinds of music on it meaning everything from rock n’ roll, blues, acoustic, etc. After he’s finished with the album… things could change, though. If he feels that his instrumentals will need vocals then he’ll probably hire a vocalist or more than one vocalist if he’s planning to do another one of those albums where they have many special guest singers like he did with “Outrider”.

http://thenortheasttoday.com/jimmy-page-of-led-zeppelin-reveals-solo-album-and-live-return-plans/

If he did suddenly decide to have singers on his album, who would he work with? My top 5 choices:

  1. Robert Plant (even if they will never reunite for Led Zeppelin ever again, there’s still no stopping Jimmy & Robert working together again. Could they do a follow up album to “Walking Into Clarksdale”? Would be cool. Would love to see the Robert & Jimmy duo to make a comeback.)
  2. Chris Cornell (This would be an awesome team up.)
  3. David Coverdale (Wouldn’t it be cool if Page & Coverdale buried the hatchet and finally make a second Coverdale/Page album? I doubt this would ever happen but it would be badass.)
  4. Dave Grohl (This could be a definite possibility. Page and Grohl has been long time friends so I can see them working together on something. If Dave doesn’t end up being the singer on Jimmy’s album, I could see him drumming for it as well.)
  5. Josh Homme (The singer for QOTSA/Them Crooked Vultures would be a pretty cool team up. )

Anyway, I would prefer Jimmy to keep his new album instrumental ’cause I’ve always wanted him to do an instrumental album. A Jimmy Page instrumental guitar album would be badass but whatever he decides to do, I’m sure would be badass!

I’m a huge Jimmy Page fan. I followed everything he did throughout the years, even all of his post Led Zeppelin projects.

Why live albums are better than studio albums, in my opinion…

There’s a lot of people out there that don’t like to listen to live albums but I love them! Reasons why live albums are good to listen to are: 1) You get an idea of what the band & artist is like at their live concerts which is what they’re for to begin with 2) You can hear different versions of your favorite songs live on stage ’cause a lot of bands & artists don’t play the songs the same way twice 3) There is more freedom to spontaneity and improvisation…

Here are my top ten favorite live albums in no particular order:

  • Led Zeppelin –  BBC Sessions
  • Jimi Hendrix – Live at the Fillmore
  • Allman Brothers – At Fillmore East
  • David Bowie – Bowie At the Beeb
  • Johnny Cash – Live at Folsom Prison
  • Motorhead – No Sleep ’til Hammersmith
  • Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart – Live From Amsterdam
  • Jefferson Airplane – The Woodstock Experience
  • Nirvana – MTV Unplugged In New York
  • KISS – Alive

That’s pretty much it. I’m sure there’s a few more, though.

Just finished listening to Rush’s entire discography of albums…

All this week I finished listening to all of Rush’s studio albums. Listened to their entire body of work. I’m a huge fan of Rush. I’ve already heard a bunch of their studio albums before but now that Apple Music streaming is here, I got to listen to the rest of their albums. I’m a pretty big Rush fanatic. I love Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart. All 3 are phenomenal musicians. I even got the opportunity to see the band live in concert myself once which is a concert I’ll never forget (saw them during the “Test for Echo” tour, I think). Rush has a total of 20 studio albums.

I also listened to their 2003 live album, “Rush In Rio” and will soon listen to their new live album they just put out this year titled, “Rush – R40” which is their 40th Anniversary tour album.

I love all Rush studio albums but the 5 that I loved the most are:

  • Fly By Night
  • Signals
  • Grace Under Pressure
  • Test For Echo
  • Vapor Trails

Hopefully Rush will get back into the studio to record again. They’ve always been an exciting band to listen to. I still love them now.
