Song Of The Day: “She Talks To Angels” by the Black Crowes…

So as everyone knows, Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes announced the break up of the iconic rock band after a 24 year long career. I didn’t even know they were still together until now.

I am a fan of the Crowes; however, I only own one album by them in my music collection. The only album I own of theirs is “Shake Your Money Maker”, their first one. It’s a great album.

These guys are definitely future rock n’ roll Hall of Famers and I’m sure there will probably be future reunions. The Crowes breakup is too bad. They only have about 9 albums in their discography. I wish the dudes best of luck.

Trey Anastasio to front the Grateful Dead for final shows in Chicago!!!

This is is pretty big news for Deadheads and Phish phans. The 4 surviving members of The Grateful Dead will play 3 nights at Soldier Field in Chicago and Trey Anastasio is set to front the band replacing the late, Jerry Garcia. The Dead picked Soldier Field to be their final show ’cause that was the venue where it had Jerry’s last performance before he passed on.

This is huge for Trey and I’m sure it’s a dream come true for him to play with the Dead! WOW! I’m a fan of both the Dead and Phish. Congrats Trey!!!

I’m sure these concerts will be recorded for a DVD/CD release so I’ll hear it then! I’m sure It will be a killer show!

Billy Joel set to headline Bonnaroo festival along with Mumford & Sons and Deadmau5…

This year’s Bonnaroo lineup have been revealed and the headliners this year are pretty surprising. Billy Joel and Mumford & Sons are set to headline. I’m not much of a fan of Deadmau5 ’cause I never really listened to them before. I am a fan of Billy Joel and Mumford & Sons, though.

Billy Joel To Headline Bonnaroo 2015

It’s very strange to me on how Billy keeps performing live yet he refuses to go back into the studio and make a new record for all of us. Billy claims he’s done making music in the studio but I don’t buy it, though. The man just admitted last year that he lost his passion for recording new music. He no longer wants to go through all that. He also claims he has made enough music for us.

In my opinion, I think Billy is just being a lazy bum. I know he’s capable of making a new record. I also think he’s quietly writing new songs behind our backs ’cause he’s a musician and that’s what musicians do, make music.

Making new music is something you should never give up doing. Billy maybe getting older and he’s aging yes but that still doesn’t mean he have to stop making new music. Elton never stopped going into the studio, he’s still going. So is Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young.

I understand Billy has been a part of the music business for years and he’s getting tired of it but once again making new music is something you should NEVER give up.

I think Billy should give us one more record. I’m sure fans would welcome another Billy Joel record anytime!!! He should do it for the fans.

Song Of The Day: “Oye Como Va” by Santana

I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a pretty big fan of Carlos Santana’s guitar playing. All of his new stuff is alright but I like his earlier music back in the 70’s more. I love the album, “Abraxas”, one of my favorite albums of all time. Santana is a genius guitar player and he’s still rockin’ today. Still doing his thing.

“Oye Como Va” is one of my favorite instrumentals. It’s an awesome jam.

I listen to albums… not single songs…

While I do appreciate Itunes and things like Ipods & other mp3 player gadgets, my only gripe about them is that they ruined the magic of listening to the “album”. Thanks to Itunes, people now mistakenly believe that listening to “single” songs on an Ipod is the right way to go about listening to music. They just pick their favorite songs to listen to off the album and many even listen to only “radio” hit singles. A lot of people have been doing this in this day and age. Listening to their favorite “single” songs instead of the full album itself.

If you asked me what songs that are on my Ipod, you probably won’t get much of an answer. My answer will probably be, “I listen to albums, not single songs”. It’s true. I’m a full album guy. I’m not very selective and picky of the music that I listen to like a lot of people are. Instead of listening to the whole album itself, people would only listen to the songs that they like on it and ignore the ones they don’t care for.

That’s not how I listen to music. I repeat, I’m a full album kind of guy. In order to be a “true music lover”, you need to appreciate the album like a piece of art. No need to be so picky at all, just listen to the entire album and enjoy.

When I listen to albums, I’m not the one to pick which songs are great and which songs are bad. I like to critique the whole album itself. I don’t like those who just pick a few songs to listen to off an album. If you buy and album and if you’re picky of what songs to listen then why be a fan of music at all??? That’s the only thing I don’t like about music sites like Itunes and Spotify.

Appreciate albums like a piece of art. That’s how you show your true love for music and your passion for it. When I put on an album, I almost always listen through the whole thing from start to finish. That’s how music is supposed to be listened to, in my opinion. That’s the way it used to be in the old days but when Itunes/Spotify came around and changed things.

When I buy an album, I’ll probably appreciate all the songs on it. Kind of hard to explain but I think you know where I’m getting at. It’s pretty rare that I’ll dislike an album. Mostly all the albums I bought over the years are pretty good. If I buy an album and don’t like it, I’ll just get rid of it.

Appreciate music like an art. Being selective of songs to listen to is not showing your true passion for music, in my opinion.

Joe Satriani hits the studio for new album…

Joe Satch just posted this announcement that he began work on his next album which will be his follow-up from his 2013 record, “Unstoppable Momentum” (which kicks total ass, btw).

While I do like shred guitar virtuosos such as Joe Satch, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Yngwie and all those guys… I give the utmost respect to Joe Satriani and Al Di Meola. Joe Satriani and Al Di Meola are both of my heroes and both of those guys are coming out with new records this year so bring ’em on!

How big of a fan I am of Joe Satriani? HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just fucking love the guy’s music and I’m trying to collect all of his stuff as much as possible. I’m trying to collect his discography. Of course, I first got into this guy’s music by hearing his iconic album, “Surfing With the Alien”, that was the album that got me into his music. I even got the rare opportunity to see Joe Satriani live years ago and it was an amazing night, I’ll never forget it. So far, I have 7 of his albums and counting.

Next time I download music from Itunes, I’ll get another Satriani album. I just love his music, man. He’s a genius musician and guitar player. I also love the work Satriani did with Chickenfoot ’cause I have the two of their albums as well.

Listen to a track of his below from his latest album for your listening enjoyment.

So Joe Satriani, Al DiMeola and Slayer all have new records coming out this year. I’m looking forward to all of them!
