RIP: Adam Yauch 1964 – 2012

Like most fans in the music world, I am very heart broken hearing about the death of Adam Yauch (better known as MCA) of the Beastie Boys. I’ve listened to the Beastie Boys for years. I’ve been a huge fan of them from way back and still am a huge fan of them now. No matter what you think of the Beastie Boys, love ’em or hate ’em. They were geniuses. They wrote incredible songs, and they are very talented live performers. They were such an inspiration to me. I never saw the Beastie Boys live, but I’ve always bought their albums.

Adam’s earlier life, he was born in and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He taught himself how to play bass guitar during high school, and right away he formed the Beastie Boys, with members: John Berry, Kate Schellenbach, and Michael Diamond. The band started off playing hardcore punk music before changing their sound to hip hop. When Yauch turned 22, that’s when he changed the Beastie Boys genre to hip hop music, as a trio. The band released their first album, “License To Ill”, under Def Jam Records.

The band were very successful over the years. Selling millions of records, making lots of hit music videos (which most of them were directed by Yauch himself), they won a few awards, and now they were just inducted into the, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Adam Yauch was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Yauch passed away today at the age of 47. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Introducing the new Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Inductees for 2012!!!

Well, the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame 2012 inductees have been announced today. Here they are.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers – A well deserved induction, I’m sure the guitarists Hilel Slovak and John Frusciante will get inducted with them, but will Dave Navarro get inducted with them too? Dave Navarro was guitarist for the Chili Peppers for one album, so I’m sure Dave will be part of it. I’ve been a fan of the Chili Peppers for years and even seen them live in concert once. Love the Chili Peppers.

Guns N’ Roses – This one is not such a big surprise at all, I think we all knew that they were going to make it, no matter what happened. Guns N’ Roses had way too many different members over the years. I’m sure they’ll all get inducted with Axl. Most importantly the original members: Slash, Duff, Izzy, etc. Now let the original members reunion speculation begin!

Beastie Boys – I know this choice is going to get a lot of hate and negative feedback. People will accuse them of not being “rock”, and I’m sure some of you will think, “What were they thinking?” Of course, the Beastie Boys are fuckin’ rock, man. If you don’t think, “Fight For Your Right” or “Sabotage” are rock songs then you need your ears checked. The Beastie Boys had a legendary career, they accomplished so much,  love ’em or hate ’em. They were the ones that got this heavy rap rock thing going. So I think this induction is well deserved!

Donovan – He’s a Scottish singer/songwriter famous for his anthem, “Sunshine Superman”, which is a song that I love. I don’t listen to too much Donovan but I respected the legacy and his career. He should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame years ago, it’s about time, he’s in!

Laura NyroShe was a singer/songwriter and pianist from New York City, she died in ’97 of cancer. I don’t know much about her but I heard her songs before. “Stone Cold Picnic” is a pretty cool tune.

The FacesThis was Rod Stewart’s rock n’ roll band before his solo tour. It also had Ronnie Wood in this band. I never liked Rod Stewart too much but he did kick ass in this band though. I loved him in the Faces. Maybe there will be a reunion with this band at the Hall of Fame as well.

The Small Faces – I don’t know much about them but I do know that the Faces were formed because of them.

Freddie King – He is an American electric blues guitarist, famous for his instrumental anthem, “Hideaway”, which is also a track that I love. He was a pioneer of putting blues & rock together.

Congratulations to the new Hall of Famers!

Report: Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs replace Beastie Boys for Lollapalooza…

Due to Beastie Boys leading man, Adam Yauch’s shocking announcement that he has been diagnosed with cancer, it has forced the Beastie Boys to cancel their Lollapalooza show and postpone some tour dates, so Adam can recover.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has been booked for a last minute replacement for Perry Farrell’s legendary music festival.

Rollingstone reports:

As much as I hate most of today’s music, I still say the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is the best rock band out right now. Most new rock suck ass, but I fucking LOVE the, Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

I picked up their newest album, “It’s Blitz”. Haven’t gotten a chance to hear the whole album yet, but I listened to like half of it. Very good stuff. I think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are one of the best female fronted rock bands in a long time.

BREAKING NEWS: Springsteen, Phish, Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, David Byrne, and Wilco are the major headlining acts for Bonnaroo…

Yep, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will finally have their opportunity to share the stage with Phish after all these years, that will happen at Bonnaroo 2009 festival. The Bonnaroo Festival is a 4 day music fest with various stages and the festival is at Manchester, Tennessee. Festival will take place on June 11-14.

Other headlining acts are the Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, David Byrne, Wilco, and more. A lot of other surprise appearances by Ben Harper, Kaki King, Merle Haggard, Rodrigo y Gabriela (an instrumental acoustic duo that plays cover songs), and many more.

See the artist lineup for Bonnaroo here:

Sounds like a good show. I’m sure a 2 or 3 hour Springsteen set will be better than his ridiculous 12 minute Halftime show at the Superbowl.
