Cool Video: “Weird Al” Yankovic performs intimate acoustic gig on NPR radio…

“Weird Al” Yankovic played a short acoustic gig in the NPR radio station and it was recorded on video. I’m a big “Weird Al” fan. I’ve only seen him perform live once at the Palace Theater years back, but this is Weird Al’s best performing. His singing is really good just doing acoustic.

I would like to see Al and just his accordian alone though. Not sure why he didn’t bring his accordian to these performances.

Enjoy these. Al’s singing is better without the electric band, in my opinion. He shows his passion in his singing in these performances.

Report: “Weird” Al Yankovic announces he will direct/write his first live action featured film for Cartoon Network…

“Weird” Al Yankovic is not just a musician, he has also been involved with films for most of his entire life as well. Yes, he’s an actor, director, writer and producer. As you all know Al Yankovic has starred the leading role in “UHF” and a string of cameos in many other comedy flicks. He has also directed many music videos as well.

Al finally gets his opportunity to make his debut film. Not sure if it will be shown in theater or direct to TV for Cartoon Network or not, but this will be a strictly live action. It will not involve animation although the deal was made through Cartoon Network.

Al says this is not a sequel to “UHF”. He revealed that he will have a cameo in it. He will write and direct this movie. He said the leading star will be male, and will be a teenager. So something tells me that either Justin Bieber or one of the Jonas Brothers will get the lead?

See Al’s blog on it here:

Report: It’s “Weird Al” Yankovic vs. James Blunt…

James Blunt is defnitely no fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic. Does Mr. Blunt have a sense of humor? Apparently not.

Al Yankovic asked Mr. Blunt by e-mail for permission if Al could include his parody, “You’re Pitiful” for Al’s next greatest hits album. Guess what? Blunt managers fired an e-mail back to Al Yankovic, ordering Al to not include the song on any future greatest hits album.

Flashback, Blunt once allowed Al to parody the song and make a video for it, for the song “You’re Beautiful”…but Blunt wouldn’t allow Al to put the parody on any of his studio albums.

Al Yankovic, the man himself, isn’t happy about this…as he is all over his Twitter page, complaining about James Blunt’s actions, he’s all over his twitter page making fun of James.

http://twitter.com/ALyankovic

While it isn’t the copyright laws to parody someone else’s work, it’s completely legal, Al is respectful to other musicians work so Al wouldn’t get sued by other songwriters. So Al is very careful about choosing songs to parody.

I think James Blunt has always been a douche bag…so Al should pay no mind to him. James is the one being the prick here…he should be happy that Al respects James Blunt’s songwriting but nope. It’s all ego. James the egomaniac, he thinks he’s too good for “Weird Al” Yankovic.

And congrats to Al on 20th Anniversary of “UHF”. 20th Anniversary edition DVD of “UHF” coming? Maybe a sequel to the movie, “UHF”? Come on, Al, make a “UHF”, sequel. It deserves one. 🙂

Report: “Weird Al” Yankovic finally writes about Michael Jackson…

“Weird Al” Yankovic twittered about the death of MJ, Al Yankovic writes a lot more about MJ to Rollingstone.com.

Read it here:

I expect another MJ parody or an original song style parody of MJ coming from “Weird Al” soon. Al Yankovic will probably do an MJ homage song for his next album. I hope he does.

In response to article about Weird Al’s homage to the Doors…

Read this:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10265362-36.html

I agree that the music of the song itself is very dead on with the Doors. Al Yankovic’s vocals is surprisingly almost close to Jim Morrison, but I think there is a reason that Al’s lyrics aren’t the same as Jim’s styles.

I think there is a legal reason for it. Al respects other people’s work legally and takes it very seriously. Maybe Al didn’t parody one of the Doors songs because Ray Manzarek wouldn’t allow it, for a legal reason. Maybe Al didn’t copy Jim’s writing style because Mr. Manzarek wouldn’t allow it. So I believe it was Ray himself that suggested Al to write something new and different for a Doors homage. I bet it was Ray himself that instructed Al how to perform this song in the studio.

Why would Al want to copy Jim Morrison’s writing style anyways? I wouldn’t like that. Al respected the late Jim Morrison and put Al’s own style in lyric writing for the song.

Al Yankovic made it clear before, his next album is going to be very topical, songs that will be about real events. He’s doing exactly that. His first single before this one which was T.I.’s parody is about the economic times we are having.

Those who are curious about the lyrics of “Craigslist” the new Weird Al tune, here it is here:

http://lyricwiki.org/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic:Craigslist

In my opinion, I think the lyrics are pretty funny. If you read it carefully, understand what Al is trying to say in it, you would find it hilarious.

Even the craigslist founder/owner found it funny as well!

Again though, I think there is definitely a legal reason behind why Al didn’t write the lyrics on how Jim Morrison would have wrote it. Ray was probably very strict about it. Ray has always been protective of Jim Morrison and the Doors music from day 1 ever since they started.

Cool Video: OMG!!!!!! Weird Al homage to the Doors to make fun of “craigslist”, with Ray Manzarek on keyboards!!!

“Weird Al” Yankovic has done it again. This time, he did a style parody of the Doors. This is an original song written by Al Yankovic, it’s not a parody of the Doors, but a style parody. Al Yankovic collaborates with the Doors keyboardist, Ray Manzarek in this song. This is “Weird Al’s” latest official video. It looks like Al is finally coming out with a new album soon.

This is just brilliant work. It’s nice to see Al Yankovic finally release an original song for a single, which he doesn’t do very much in his career. Most of his hit singles are all parodies of other work. This song is an original one written by Al himself.

Which I’m sure he got tons of advice and help from Ray Manzarek himself to make this song sound exactly like the Doors.

Enjoy this. Amazing job, Al. This is your best new work in a long time! Al is a musical genius, period. 🙂

Report: “Weird Al” Yankovic gets cameo in Rob Zombie’s “H2″…

Rob Zombie announced that funny man musician, “Weird Al Yankovic” will be having a cameo appearance in the Halloween sequel, “H2”. Al is set to be a guest on, “The Newman Hour” which is a television program that will be doing a show on Dr. Loomis and his new book. “Weird Al” Yankovic has been well known to star in a handful of cameos in so many films over the years, including the “Naked Gun” trilogy and more.

More on it here:

Does this mean that “Weird Al” is going to parody one of Rob Zombie’s songs from Rob’s upcoming new album? It’s possible.

Report: Weird Al Yankovic to release new parody for Itunes on Oct. 7th…

Earlier this year, Weird Al Yankovic spoke to Billboard that he plans on releasing his new songs early exclusively to Itunes even before his new album comes out. Weird Al announced he is working on a new album this year, and it will be his first since 2006’s “Straight Outta Lynwood”.

Weird Al announced in his myspace blog that he will release a brand new parody that is considered the number one song in the country. It is obviously a parody of a recent hit song this year.

What new parody that Al Yankovic is releasing to Itunes? What band or artist is he parodying next?

See Weird Al’s myspace blog about it here:

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=90827837&blogID=437292861

My guess:

Kid Rock “All Summer Long”

Katy Perry “I Kissed A Girl”

Metallica “The Day That Never Comes”

Report: “Weird” Al hints making topical songs for Itunes…

“Weird” Al Yankovic, an accordion playing parody comedy musician has finally got a new music update. “Weird” Al has spoken to Billboard that he may be going a lot more topical in his music with the help of Itunes. He says he is planning on using Itunes to release his new songs early even if he is not ready to make an album yet.

Weird Al has plans to launch a new tour this summer and he is currently living in Hawaii.

Billboard reports:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003817741

Hmmm, sounds like Weird Al is hinting us about going back into the studio again.

I wonder what songs he will parody next? I can definitely see him parodying that Weezer song “Pork and Beans”, hands down. I’d like to see him try Tay Zonday’s “Chocolate Rain”, that be hilarious if he did that one. And obviously most of today’s music in 2008, ’cause Weird Al has always been known to parody songs in current music that are popular.

It’s good to hear from Al Yankovic again.
