What is K’brocking???

I think “K’brocking” will be the name of my band if I ever get it formed someday. Not only part of that name is part of my initials, I figure the name would be a good eye catcher by adding the “ing” after “Brock”. It’s just a little thing to describe me as, Kev Brock is rocking. So I put ’em both together, “K’Brocking”. Get it? Simple to understand. The name “K’Brocking” is to help give people a hint, that I am a rock n’ roller. Not a folk or country singer.

Edit: “Brocking” is not referring to the dance move you do with drum & bass music, to avoid confusion. “Brock” is part of my last name.

Plans for the future…

Well, I figured out how to move, “The Kev Brock” section of my blog to combine it with the “News” page of this site, that way I can use this blog section to announce upcoming gigs, projects, and stuff like that. Yes, I am planning a comeback to the music scene and this time it’s for real. Before I book a show though, I need to write a bunch of new songs which is what I’m planning to do. After I write a bunch of new songs, I’m planning on saving cash for studio time soon, so I can have better quality recordings. I will also look for a drummer and a bass player to record with so I can have real instruments. This is all being planned for the future, I’m just taken baby steps.

Will I release an official album on CD? Not sure. Can’t afford CD manufacturing as of this point, so I’ll just release all the new songs for free on the internet.

I know I haven’t been playing too many live shows, but I do want to get back out there in a big way. I love performing live and I do miss it.

Reasons why celebrity marriages/relationships never last too long…

So Johnny Depp recently split with his girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, and Tom Cruise is divorcing, Katie Holmes. I hate talking about gossip and personal stuff on here, but I gotta get this off my chest. It may seem pretty cool that a famous person is married to another famous person, but things almost always don’t go too well at the end. They end up splitting or divorcing pretty quickly. Why is this you may ask? Well, this is the price of fame & fortune. Both of them, the celebrity man, and woman, are extremely rich people. One person is richer than the other. Not only money could partly be responsible for splits/divorces, but their work load in their careers are a big part of it. Both of them are almost always busy on their films, that they don’t have time to see each other as much as they would like to. More reasons celeb marriages/relationships don’t last too long, is ego could be a huge part of it too. You may think being a celebrity could be easy but it’s not. It’s a tough world and some of these guys don’t even like being famous at all, they work on film or music, ’cause it’s what they do for a living.

It is bullshit on why celebrity splits or divorces have to be huge breaking news though, in this day and age of the media. If a hot celebrity couple is done, the news would be all over it non stop. Pretty crazy. I don’t get it. Even if we don’t like this stuff being shoved in our faces, the media reports this stuff ’cause it helps make them money, get more ratings and more hits on their websites. That’s what bothers me about today’s pop culture. The celebrity obsession, creepy stuff if you ask me.

If you notice on my website when I talk about actors or music stars, I focus on their careers and their work. Not their personal lives. That’s what the entertainment blog is about. I try not to gossip too much. The Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise split is no surprise though. Don’t worry, Tommy will get himself another woman in no time. He’ll get himself a Katie Holmes look alike, the week after.

Would I go see the movie, “Magic Mike”? I’ll check it out but it can wait for Netflix rental…

The internet has been going crazy over Steven Soderbergh’s new movie, “Magic Mike”, a movie about male stripping that stars Channing Tatum, and Matt McConaughey. I’m not seeing it in theater not because it’ll make me feel gay for going to see it. I’m not a big fan of Channing Tatum’s acting (I also think he’s overrated). Plus, Steven Soderbergh, hasn’t made a great movie since the film, “Traffic” in 2000, that was the last great movie he did. I did like the Oceans trilogy but they weren’t the best, just entertaining. I did like, “Haywire”, but it wasn’t the best, just entertaining.

It’s mostly women going crazy over, “Magic Mike”, which is expected, but I am noticing that straight guys have went out and saw it too. I believe the movie was made for both men and women. The movie is about learning how to party and learning how to pick up women, which is what a lot of men like, so guys can go see the movie for that. The women would go see it for the half naked muscle dudes. I wonder what made Soderbergh want to make a movie like this? I bet his wife begged him to do it.

“The Dark Knight: Rises” is finally coming out in a couple of weeks, so I’ll be going to see that one instead, of course.

I was serious about the website changes…

While this site is now an official music website, I’ll still blog about the entertainment industry. I just moved the blog to a different section as you can see. Just click over when you reach the intro page. I still have more work to do to make this site more professional looking. I think I’m going to promote myself as a musician, full time. In order to get known as a musician and if I want people to take my music a little more seriously, I needed to improve my web presence. Yep, I want back in on this music thing, and want to make a comeback.

Congrats to the Flaming Lips, that’s awesome!

No matter what you think of the Flaming Lips, love ’em or hate ’em, they are one of the most hardest working bands around. The Flaming Lips broke the world record, performing 8 different concerts during a 24 hour period, beating rapper Jay-Z. I love the Flaming Lips, always have. Wayne Coyne is an excellent songwriter, and live performer. He may not have the greatest singing voice, but that’s what I like about him. I said it before, I like singers who don’t take their talent seriously and they just sing for the love of it. I wish I could see them live in concert myself.

More on the story, here.

Cool Photo: Charlize Theron shows off her buzz cut hairdo, or could that be Sinead O’ Connor???

Yep, that’s Charlize Theron, showing off her buzz cut hairdo for the first time out in public. She’s still pretty hot! Although, she won’t keep that look forever. She’ll get the blond hair back when she’s done filming, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, which is what that look is for. I’m looking forward to seeing what her Mad Max costume is going to look like. She will star alongside, Tom Hardy, and the film will be directed by, George Miller. The film has already started shooting in Namimbia, Africa. Hopefully it’ll be good. I’m a big fan of the Mad Max movies, hopefully they can pull it off without Mel Gibson being a part of it. Hopefully, they make it a great action movie.

Songwriting…

Instead of going back to the old songs and re-doing them to full band versions in Garageband, I think I’m going to focus on brand new songs from this point on, for a while at least. I want to see if I can still write new songs, rather than looking back at the past. I’m proud of my older songs like, “Evil Fred”, “Mr. Tough Guy”, “Nightmare Has Begun Today”, “The Dark War”, etc. I think it’s time to go for a different change and focus on new material. I only wrote one new original song which I kept, “A Secret Hidden”, but it’s time to write a lot more. Garageband is inspiring me to write more rock n’ roll music. The heavier rock. Garageband is great software to create rock riffs and it’s good practice to improvise over.

As for the drum tracks, I’m still studying timing, and rhythm. I can play along with a metronome just fine. In garageband, I just keep the drum pattern simple 8th notes all the way through for now. In the future, I will record with a live drummer so the drums can sound more human. The songs will be even more tight with a real drummer playing in the background.

I just want to test out my songwriting skills. Find out if I have what it takes to write songs for full band music, and so far, I think I’m doing a good job. Nothing negative said about my few songs I put out there using garageband. Garageband is awesome. So glad I got the Ipad now. It’s actually a pretty handy tool. Love it.
