Report: Does Dave Grohl have the hots for Frances Bean Cobain? Frances says no, and thinks her Mom should be banned from twitter…

This never ending feud between Dave Grohl and Courtney Love, has gotten much worse. Courtney Love accused Grohl of having an affair with, Frances Bean Cobain. She says Dave Grohl never hit on her, and says Courtney should be banned from twitter.

More on the story, here.

I don’t believe it’s true either. Dave Grohl is a married man himself and has children too, I believe. Plus, Dave is way too busy with the Foo Fighters that he won’t even have the time to get into this drama. I’m pretty sure Dave and Frances Bean are close friends, but not lovers.

Courtney is delusional and she needs to shut her mouth. She’s just a jealous woman that the Foo Fighters career is going somewhere with their music, while her career fails. I give kudos to Dave for staying out of her drama though. He should give her a big fat lawsuit and shut her up for good.

What kind of band would I want to have???

In this site, I talk about forming a band someday, which is what I want to do, and some of you may ask, what do I want my future band to be like? I’ll probably just have the basic thing: drums, bass, and guitar. I might go for a 2nd guitarist who does both rhythm/lead well, to make the jamming a little more fun. I’m not sure if I will sing the lead or not yet, but a different singer maybe considered, be it, either a male or female vocalist. As for the other members, I don’t care about the age range. I don’t care if you’re male or female, anybody can play as long they have the talent that I’m looking for. Doesn’t matter if you’re good looking or not. It’s all about the talent.

Bands take themselves too serious when it comes to age, image, and race. I don’t care what kind of person you are, as long this musician gives what my songs need and able to fit my style, you’re in. Simple as that.

I would also look for musicians who doesn’t take money and getting paid seriously. Just want to be passionate about music and be in it for the love of playing it. I’ll get a band someday when I’m ready for it.

EDIT TO ADD: In other words, to keep it short and simple, I won’t discriminate anybody.

Report: Details revealed for J.K. Rowling’s first adult novel, “The Casual Vacancy” is title…

J.K. Rowling’s publisher, Little Brown & Co. has revealed plot details of her next book aimed at adult readers. The title is, “The Casual Vacancy”, and the plot will stay far away from the wizard stuff. Totally different!

The story will be taken place in the UK in a town called, Pagford. Taken from the article, “It opens with the sudden death of a popular man whose unexpected demise shocks the town, which is described as far more menacing than its pretty facade would indicate.

The publisher said that in reality Pagford is “a town at war” with rich people fighting the poor, parents battling their teenagers, and wives in conflict with their husbands.”

The book will be getting released, Sept. 27th.

Very cool, looking forward to reading it. We’ll see how well it sells with it not being Harry Potter and all. Do you think she can still be a successful writer, even if she’s done with Harry Potter? We’ll have to wait and see what happens. If the book doesn’t sell well and it fails, oh well. She made tons of money with the Harry Potter franchise, so I’m sure she’s no longer worried about being a best selling author anymore. She continues to write ’cause that is what she does and I’m sure she doesn’t want to write Harry Potter for the rest of her life. Writers have to write different things.

I really want to see that documentary, “Bully”, the more I read about it…

That documentary coming out soon, “Bully”, looks interesting to me. I read this review about the film in AICN. I’ll have to see it when it comes out.

Doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, and doesn’t matter your age, bullying is a huge problem in the U.S. I agree it has gotten worse lately especially online.

I was bullied throughout most of high school myself (I won’t go into details), which is one of the reasons why I got thinking about getting into either martial arts or bodybuilding. I ended up choosing bodybuilding instead of martial arts. I still want to do martial arts someday though. I do want to learn how to fight for self defense only.

I learned that the more muscular and bigger you get, the more people will leave you alone. “Bully” could be the best documentary of 2012 and don’t be surprised if it gets the Oscar nod for next year’s Academy awards. I’m looking forward to it. I think “Bully” hits theaters at the end of March.

It’s going to be a painful and depressing film to watch, but it’s going to be worth it for educational purposes.

Professional looking bands & musician photos…are they really necessary for a local band???

I’ve been seeing this a lot more often in social networking sites. Bands & solo artists that are unsigned making professional looking photos for their websites, show advertisements, and other promotional stuff. When I mean professional looking photos that means the musician have to play dress up, go in a photo studio and take all these fancy looking photos by a professional photographer which I’m sure charges a lot of money for photos. They claim they do this for marketing material, but I don’t buy it. I think they do it because they want to look like superstars.

I understand that photos are very important for bands & music artists. While I do like music photos myself, I just don’t care for the professional and fancy looking studio photos. It’s just silly to me, in my opinion. When you’re a local musician, you don’t need to spend all kinds of money and don’t need to go through all that.

Truthfully, if you’ve noticed over the years with my music, I never took photos seriously like most bands & musicians do. It’s not that I’m camera shy, I don’t mind getting my picture taken. I have always been focused on the music. I won’t pay a lot of money for a professional photograher to take photos of me in a studio, when you can do all that stuff for free with your own digital camera.

All those photos I’ve had over the years, they were just photos taken at the gigs. I let fans take photos of me whenever they wanted. I didn’t take photos of me at all of my gigs. Some of my gigs, somebody did take photos and some of them, no photos at all.

If I ever start putting out albums, I won’t use too many band photos either. On album covers, I would probably have art work instead of a photo of myself on the front of it. I’m a huge fan of art work. Graphic art, paintings, etc. So I would have stuff like that on my album covers.

I truly believe bands take themselves too seriously with the photos and they need to get over themselves. Especially when you’re just an unsigned musician and local. Don’t rely on photos too much with your music. I know bands love photos, they get too crazy over them because they love the attention and publicity, but truthfully, I don’t care. The only reason I agree to let people take photos of me at the gigs or even take photos with fans, is to be nice in return since the fans have been supportive of me at the gigs. If you’ve noticed I don’t go photo crazy in music, and I like it that way.

Maybe I should start learning guitar solos from other songs note for note…

I guess I’ll have a change of heart with this and give it a try. I never did it over the years, copying solos from cover songs note for note for fear of getting their style, but realizing doing this could do me no harm.

Copying solos note for note, could help get better technique, it could help me stay in time, and could help me get a better ear. Plus, it’ll help me understand scales better and how they shift to a different key like Rob said.

Maybe I should study the styles of my favorite guitar players: Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Satriani, Neil Young, and Clapton. If I want to play like a pro, learning from those guys would help me greatly, I think.

Learning what scales & modes they use and all that stuff. I’ll start learning Zep solos though. I’ll record myself playing the rhythm of the Zep song and play the solo over it. Good practice that way, and I’ll play along with the metronome, of course. What scale does Jimmy Page mostly use? He mostly uses the regular minor pentatonic scale but uses what he calls, a “box pattern“.

When Jimmy Page played in Led Zeppelin in the past, when they played their live shows, Jimmy never played the same solo twice on a song. He always improvised different solos on each Zeppelin song. Listen to live CD’s for proof on that. There are too many different versions of the “Stairway To Heaven” solo on the live albums, they were never the same. The same with “Dazed and Confused” with the violin bow.

That’s where I got that thought from, try not to copy others solos, and did what Jimmy Page did. Make each solo on a song different. Not playing the same solo from the album at a live show. On an album you have to play the solo kind of short but when you play live, you can play the solo as long as you want to. Just jam the fuck out of the song until you get tired. That’s what Led Zeppelin did, and that’s what the Grateful Dead did.

That’s how I want to play in a band, same thing. I think 2 or 3 minute songs is way too short for me. A 7 to 10 minute or a little longer is just right for me. People think 10 minute songs are too long for them but to me, not really. If you make the 10 minute song right with the pacing, it’ll be over quick before you know it. Just don’t bore the listener with the same riff over and over, you want to have different things going on.

I’m all about Led Zeppelin, man. They were the reason I do this. If I get a band, I may not even sing at all and just play guitar, maybe have a different singer. I know I’m not that good of a singer anyway, I just do it ’cause the songs I write need vocals and I had nobody else.

Thing is, I feel weird when people tell me I’m a great guitar player ’cause a lot of times, I don’t feel I’m up there yet. I say in the blog, I don’t have my rhythm and timing down yet and other musicians say that I have my timing down well enough. They said I’ve always had my timing good. In the past, I was never into theory too much so I never understood quarter notes, eights notes, sixteenth notes, etc. until now when I started reading more about rhythm and practicing along with a metronome more often. If I want to get good at home recording, I need to get good with timing, so I can make the drums sound perfectly in sync and stay in the pocket.

I want to be at my best. I don’t realize my own talent, being my own worst critic. So I just let other people do the talking and let them think what they want about my music. Although, I’m flattered for some of the positive feedback I get with my playing.

Book Review: “Commando” by Johnny Ramone

Today, I just finished reading the rock memoir, “Commando”, by Johnny Ramone. He was the rhythm guitarist for the punk rock band, The Ramones. I must say that this is one of my favorite rock memoirs I’ve ever read. Johnny Ramone himself, really wrote this book himself before his death. He definitely did not have a ghost writer ’cause when you read this book it makes you feel like he’s actually talking to you.

This is also the most honest rock memoir I’ve ever read. Most rock memoirs would focus on the sex, drugs & music. Well, this book strictly focuses on the music. The book starts off from the day he was born and goes all the way up to his death.

Johnny was a true punk. He knew what punk was all about and he will tell everything about living the punk lifestyle. Part of being a punk is being angry and having a short temper, all the time. Having the not give a fuck attitude. Johnny was really honest in this book. He won’t be afraid to tell you what was good or what was bad. He will also tell you who he got along with and who he didn’t get along with.

If you think Johnny and Joey Ramone were best friends, think again! Johnny said in the book, that he and Joey hated each other guts. They never got along at all. It was Dee Dee, the bass player, who Johnny got along with the most than everyone.

Johnny also wrote in the book that he never intended to be in a rock n’ roll band to begin with. He was going to focus on being a construction worker and just live a normal life. Other people begged him to become a rocker, so he picked up the guitar, learned to play and formed the Ramones.

Johnny talked about how he wanted the band to be at their best ever, and he wanted to have success. He talked about how the Ramones struggled at first by playing a bunch of shows at CBGB’s in NYC (the club where the Ramones first got their start). Did you think Johnny and Debra Harry of Blondie got along? They didn’t get along at first but they became friends later. Johnny was never the one to become friends with other musicians. He wanted to be friends with normal people. Until the Ramones got even more famous later on, Johnny started becoming friends with other famous musicians such as Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Lisa Marie Presley, Kirk Hammett, etc.

When you see Ramones concerts, do you ever wonder why their sets are always so short and why their songs are so short? It’s because Johnny wanted it that way. He never liked long songs and he didn’t care for guitar solos, even if he did think that Jimi Hendrix was one of his favorite musicians.

Of course, toward the end of this book, when it got to the cancer stuff, that’s when the book got really sad. The book is full of rare and never before seen photos, and all kinds of things. It’s a short book. So it’s an easy & quick read. It only took a couple of days to read.

I’m a pretty big Ramones fan. I don’t own any of their music but I’m going to start collecting their stuff soon, but I have been listening to them for years, though. Heard their stuff on the radio, and listen to them in youtube. While I still think the Clash is my no. 1 favorite punk band, the Ramones would have to be my 2nd favorite. They were an incredible band and it’s a shame that most of the members died.

This book is recommended for all music lovers or Ramones fans. This book will help make you understand them better. They may have been underrated back then, but they are greatly appreciated now!

BREAKING NEWS: Axl Rose writes letter to Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, will not attend ceremony and declined induction…

Well, this is no surprise! Guns N’ Roses is still being inducted, Axl is not going with them. Axl, the frontman of Gn’R, wrote a letter to the Hall of Fame, saying he will not attend and will not be inducted. The reason? He just feels that he isn’t wanted and respected there. I mean, wtf, man? Of course, the Hall of Fame supports him! He’s just being a self centered ego-maniac, like he always is!!!! There is no Guns N’ Roses without Axl because he IS Guns N’ Roses. The guy’s a douchebag, always has been. I usually respect most talent in music but I don’t respect Axl.

Should you really learn guitar solos note for note from your favorite guitar players???

I often get advice from other guitar players that if you want to learn to play better, learn a guitar solo from a cover song, note for note. I disagree. I’ve always believed that if you want to become a better lead guitar soloist, don’t touch any other solos from anybody else at all. You’re just gonna get their style, and you want your own. This is why I never touched other guitar solos from my other heroes. I’m never going to play “Stairway” or any Led Zep solos note for note, ’cause I don’t want to rip off Jimmy Page.

So when I do cover songs in a band, I’m not going to copy the solo off the song, I’m going to give it my own solo. You want to have your own style of lead guitar playing, so that when the listener is listening to your playing, he/she will immediately know the lead guitar player is you.

When somebody tells me to try playing this solo, note for note on a cover song, I’m going to refuse. Don’t get me wrong. I actually tried to play other guitar solos from other songs note for note, I could never do it.

I never understood why other musicians and bands try to copy solos note for note on a song. I never understood why musicians and bands play the same exact solo at every damn show, whether on a cover song or an original.

When I get a band and start playing live gigs with them, I’m certainly not going to play solos the same way every show. I’m going to want to improvise it and wing it out every time. That’s how you become a better guitar player. You don’t ever want to sound like your heroes, ever.

While, I admire Jimmy Page so much, I’m never going to copy his sounds although, I do borrow a little bit from him here and there. You want to sound like you, nobody else.

Report: Black Sabbath to headline Lollapalooza 2012, minus Bill Ward on drums???

While Black Sabbath had no choice but to cancel their entire tour that they planned due to Tony’s cancer announcement, the band said they were still going to play a few shows, as a way to keep the fans happy. Tony maybe okay right now, but this is a good time to play a few final shows before he gets worse with his cancer until he isn’t able to play guitar anymore.

While I’m sure Sabbath is still getting a lot of hate from fans because of the Bill Ward controversy, I wish everyone would give the band positive vibes. Simply because Tony is having cancer and the band deserves to retire on a positive note, but fans continue to disrespect the band by blaming Bill’s departure on Sharon and all that stuff. Look, the band is going through some hard times with Tony’s cancer, you think people would give the band respect? No, people just want to continue to be assholes to them.

Sabbath deserves all the support and respect, ’cause Tony is a legend. With or without Bill Ward, it’s still going to be a great fuckin’ performance. Sabbath went through many different members over the years. I also believe that Sabbath went through a different drummer while Ozzy was still frontman in the 70’s. Bill has always been difficult on the guys, so never blame it on Sharon.

Lollapalooza 2012, could be Sabbath’s last and final gig ever. Perry Farrell, who is the longtime founder and owner of the legendary festival, says he’s thrilled and excited to have Black Sabbath perform. He also says he couldn’t believe they actually accepted his offer to play.

I’m sure Sabbath’s performance at Lollapalooza will get the most attention, than most of the acts on the lineup. I’m sure they will get the biggest crowd too. I’m sure looking forward to seeing it, with or without Bill Ward. I won’t be going to the concert itself but I’m sure the internet will live stream it somewhere, so I’ll watch Sabbath’s performance then.
