Bands & musicians being humorous, acting like they’re comedians, is it good for your career???

There are too many bands & musicians acting like they’re comedians these days. Try to act funny in front of their fans as a way to entertain their fans and entertain themselves. I see this in facebook a lot. Bands putting up jokes in their status’s or try to post up random funny photos with humorous quotes in them. They would also post funny youtube videos, to get their fans going. They would even go as far as making fun of other bands & musicians that they think that looks funny.

Nothing wrong with making people laugh and being humorous, I like a good laugh and I try to be funny myself at times, but I try to keep the humorous stuff away from the music as best as possible. You have to ask yourself, “Do you want to be a serious musician or be a comedian?”. I would want to see myself as a “serious” musician.

Don’t overdo the comedy too much or it’ll make it look like that you don’t take music so seriously as you look. Plus, not everybody appreciates bands trying to act funny and silly publicly. Some may find your jokes offensive, and pretty childish. Or worse, some may find you’re not funny at all and may think you’re stupid as hell.

So is being funny, a good career move? It all depends. Sometimes it can be good and sometimes it can be a career destroyer.

Some people think I’m funny as a way to make fun of me, and not exactly laugh with me. I understand this, and I don’t care. It’s just that when a band does this it creates a mixed reaction from the public. Some fans would go along with it to joke around about other musicians for a laugh, but there maybe some that may find it wrong and inappropriate.

A lot of times, I just wish bands would quit clowning around and just concentrate on the music, but they won’t do that. They’re too obsessed with the attention they’re getting of being funny with their fans.

I’m all about the music, writing it, and sharing it. That’s all I care about. If I wanted to joke around with people and have fun, I’d do it privately or joke around with people in person.

When bands try to be funny, it just shows that they’re bored, when they really should be working on the music. It takes away from their music and shows they’re not being productive of what they really should be doing.

Long guitar solos in songs…

Ya know, I always keep saying that I’m going try to make my songs short like maybe 2 or 4 minutes long, but I have a feeling that I’m never going to be able to. Here’s why.

I know people would want to see me write a short few minute songs, but it’s something I’ll never be able to do ’cause I’m used to writing long songs. Plus, I’ve been listening to so much music that has long guitar solos in them for so long. Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, Grateful Dead, Phish, etc. They’re all my inspirations for that.

With that full band song, “Secret Hidden“, gives you a little hint of what I’m about to do with full band music. While that song does have a pretty long guitar solo, but if I play that song in a band at a gig, I’ll probably end up playing the solo to that song even longer.

I’m not sure if you’ll call me jam band music, people can call it whatever they want to, but I’ll always consider myself rock n’ roll. I’ve always wanted to be a rock n’ roll musician for years and I feel it’s time it finally needs to happen. That’s why I’m doing my best to improve my timing & rhythm, improvisation/ear training, scales/modes, etc.

I want to play like I’m on fire and melt some faces, man. Play like my heroes. When these famous legends jam live they don’t even sing that much in songs and just jam throughout most of it. That’s what I plan to do. If you’ve noticed in that song, “Secret Hidden”, there aren’t much lyrics in that tune, I just wrote it quickly.

I love guitar solos. It’s my favorite part of music. I’ve been trying to improve my lead soloing ever since I picked up the guitar. It’s a hard thing to master but you’ll get better at it as years go along and if you’ll keep it up. You don’t become a great guitarist over night. Takes years of hard work. You just need to not rush it and not get too far ahead of yourself.

I do want to become a great guitar player and doing all I can to get there.

Report: Chevy Chase caught bashing his own TV show that he stars in through voicemail…

I haven’t been following the Chevy Chase vs. Dan Harmon feud that’s been going on for a while lately, but I think I am going to follow it after this story that just been reported. Chevy left a voicemail to the, “Community” creator, Dan Harmon, saying that the show is mediocre and bashes the show some more after that. Chevy says he knows comedy more than anybody and he has been doing it for years.

More on the story, here.

I watched “Community” for a little while and he has a point. The show is not that great, and not funny. Why would Chevy still star in it even if he didn’t like it? I would say he’s in it for the money alone for sure, but I also would like to say that he accepted the job just to keep acting. Nobody knows who Chevy Chase is anymore ’cause it would be hard for him to stay in Hollywood films.

If you knew Chevy Chase’s career as I do, he is also right on the money that he has been doing comedy for years, longer than anyone out there. He got his start in SNL, then he moved on to Hollywood films. Everything from “Caddyshack”, “National Lampoon’s”, “Funny Farm”, “Spies Like Us”, etc. The list goes on. The guy is a comic genius. I love his movies and always respected Chevy.

Clark Griswold was one of his best characters he ever played, of course.

I’ll be following this feud ’cause this feud seems like another version of Charlie Sheen vs. Chuck Lore. What is it with big TV stars feuding with TV creators? Ego and jealousy for sure.

Report: Ronnie Wood says the Rolling Stones could be recording a new album soon…

The Rolling Stones may not be going on tour this year for their 50th Anniversary but instead, Ronnie Wood, says the band could be headed back to the studio soon for new music. The band is going to back into the studio this month just to throw ideas around and to see what happens. He explains that doing this is like training for the Olympics.

If the Stones do release a new album with new original material, this will be their first studio album with new music since 2005’s, “A Bigger Bang”. It’s been a long time since they put out a new album.

I’m no big Stones fan but I do like some of their songs. I just own their Greatest Hits album only. I wouldn’t buy their full albums. I do respect Keith Richards and the Stones legacy. I’m just not that crazy about Jagger’s singing, though. Keith is one of the best rock guitarists and I respect him.

BREAKING NEWS: Ronnie Montrose death ruled a suicide…

The cause of death of legendary guitarist, Ronnie Montrose, has been revealed. He committed suicide, he didn’t die of cancer. The family released a statement confirming it, but they wouldn’t say how he killed himself understandably, and nobody needs to know. This is sad news and a sad way for someone to go out. Suicide is never the answer no matter if you have cancer or whatever.

Rick Santorum is dropping out of GOP Race ’cause he’s putting his family first…

I know there are going to be plenty of haters that are going to blame it on Rick that certain people believe he won’t have a chance in making the GOP race, but I believe he still had the chance in getting ahead of Romney. Rick was doing real good in the GOP race as he was catching up to Romney, so yes, Rick still definitely had the chance if he wanted to keep going. He could have kept going if he wanted to but…
he has a sick daughter named, Bella (pictured above).

She was just released from the hospital and now she is hospitalized again, I read. No matter what you think of Rick Santorum, love him or hate him, he did a great job in the GOP. The man knew what he was doing, and I admired him from speaking his mind on anything he wanted, even if his thoughts pissed many off. I like people like that. People who are not afraid to speak the truth. Rick could have won the GOP if he kept going, but Bella is the only reason he’s dropping out.

To all those haters out there who are disrespecting Rick ’cause of his decision, you are also disrespecting Bella and the rest of his family, something to keep in mind. Rick dropping out of the race in care for his daughter, just makes me give him even more respect. He’s a good man for that.

Those of you who can’t see that he’s dropping out because of his daughter, makes you the biggest asshole on the planet and lets hope you don’t have a family.

When Election day comes in Nov., I will vote for Romney even if I don’t like the guy just to get Obama out of office.

Thanks for all the inspiration Rick and good luck. No matter what people think of him, I will always support him and will always look after him. I truly believe in Rick. He can always try again in 2016 if he wanted to.

It is a bummer, but I understand if he’s doing it for family.

Got a new Ps3 system yesterday…

Yesterday afternoon, I ended up buying a new PS3 system and trashed my old one as I said I was gonna do. Let me tell you. The PS3 Slim is a much better system than the old fat design.

I started playing a few hours of “Skyrim” last night, and games look much better on the Slim too. The Slim has a better ventilation system too. Also, the picture on Netflix and BluRay discs are supposed to be amazing on the Slim too, that’s another reason I got it.

I plan to start watching Netflix stuff on it today to see what it’s like. I think I’m going to start re-watching, all the “Star Trek” shows on Netflix. Yes, that includes the original Trek, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. I’m a big Trek geek as some of you know and I’ve been planning on watching all the Trek shows on Netflix for quite some time.

Glad, I got the new PS3 Slim, and this system should last for a long time.

Report: Facebook buys Instagram for 1 billion…

I don’t use Instagram like most people ’cause I don’t take a lot of photos. I also don’t have a mobile phone yet. I don’t think I’ll ever get one. I do have a cell phone and an Ipad, that’s all the gadgets I need.

If I see something interesting when I’m out, I’ll take a pic using the cell phone. Not sure if the regular cell phone accepts the Instagram app, I’ll have to find out.

Mark Zuckerbrrg purchases, Instagram, the popular photo sharing site.

Report: Disney finally gives “Maleficent” starring Angelina Jolie, a release date…

This could be a great movie if Disney does a good job with it. Disney just set an official release date for “Maleficent”, starring Angelina Jolie, for March 14, 2014. I’m pretty sure Angie will play this role pretty well (believe me, she can play everything well), but I have a feeling this film will be nothing all that great. I hope it’ll be a good script. Live action Disney movies haven’t been that great lately.

When you do become big & successful, still act like you’re a nobody…

You know that old saying which seems to be my favorite quote in the blog, “Leave your ego at the door”. That’s exactly what you want to do after you do become an established act and become a successful band. Like some of you know, after a band becomes well known or popular be it, either an unsigned band or indie band, their egos would get bigger after that. Acting like their big stars or something when they’re not really. When a band constantly acts like that, it is a bit of a turn off. To me anyways.

There are big & successful musicians out there, that don’t even act like it. They still act like if they haven’t gone anywhere with their music even if a lot of people are listening to their music and supporting it. This is how I would want to be. There are bands and musicians out there that don’t even give a crap about popularity or success. It just happens.

There are even famous musicians under major labels that don’t even care about fame and popularity. Why do they agree to sign on to labels even if they don’t care? Some would blame it on the money but it’s way more than that. Maybe they take their music seriously and have a message to send out with their songs. Things like that, ya know? Plus, most importantly, playing music is what these guys do. They want to be able to make a living off of something they enjoy doing.

If these bands (be it unsigned or indie), cut out their egos completely, you WILL get a lot more respect from everybody. Of course, all these bands will never take my advice. They’ll continue to have huge egos and crave all this attention they are getting from people. Success and popularity is addicting to them. They can’t get over it, and they want more.

Even if I get bigger with my music (I’m not saying it will happen, just what if), I’m not going to continue to act like a big shot about it. I’ll continue to act like a musician and not obsess over popularity. That’s just my feelings on this stuff. So no disrespect at all to bands out there.
