One final thought on Whitney’s death…

What’s pissing me off about all of this is, people quickly putting the blame that crack killed Whitney. Of course, people almost ALWAYS get blamed of dying of drugs just because they die young. All of this talk of people calling her a crack head and getting killed because of it, is just an opinion. It’s not factual. It’s not factual until the Autopsy & Toxicology reports proves it. Whitney’s Autopsy report is all done but they are not releasing anything until her Toxicology is done, which the Toxicology could take months or even a few years.

Don’t always blame it on the drugs, people. Maybe she died pretty clean and her death was accidental? Who knows. People like to talk like this as if they are facts but they are not. It’s just opinion and speculation.

Wait until the truth comes out, and if the autopsy/toxicology reports proves that she OD’d herself and died, then you can talk all kinds of shit about it. If she died clean and healthy, then most of you are wrong.

People online can be ridiculously stupid and not smart as they think they are.

On a lighter note, about Whitney’s funeral, I did watch it. I watched it on TV on CNN. It was pretty interesting. What I liked best about it is Kevin Costner’s eulogy, his speech was very powerful and moving. I also loved Stevie Wonder’s performance, as he is great like always. It got even more sad when Whitney’s casket was being carried out of the Church and Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” was playing.

People might be sick of her, but when a famous legend dies, the industry will be all over it. It’s been this way for years. Remember, music artists and other celebrities dying do “matter”. When Elvis Presley died the media was all over it. It was the same way with John Lennon, Hendrix, Joplin, Buddy Holly, etc. I’m sure people were sick of hearing about them back in those days, but that’s the way the media goes. Everyone deserves to know these things.

Okay, this will be my last post about Whitney for the day, as I’ll get back to posting about other things later tonight. I’m about to watch a movie on DVD right now.

The disrespect and hate toward Whitney Houston, about her drug problems…

I am disgusted and pretty offended at all the hate and negativity toward Whitney Houston online, lately. People post a lot of hateful comments about her drug & alcohol addiction in her past. When that Chris Cornell “I Will Always Love You” tribute surfaced online, people were saying a lot of shit that Chris shouldn’t have done it because she was a drug addict. I mean, really? Do people have to be this hateful?

If I remember correctly, when Ike Turner died, I’ll never forget that everyone actually sent their condolences online about him and respected him. He died of a cocaine overdose, yet everyone still saw him as the music god he was.

Now, what’s wrong with this picture?

No matter what you all think of Whitney Houston, despite her personal problems, she was and “STILL IS”, a music legend. Period.

I’m watching her funeral on CNN as I type this, and it’s pretty heartbreaking.

Don’t always blame it on drugs, people. It’s just wrong and totally unfair. You wouldn’t be saying this stuff, if you had a family member that had a drug addiction problem. She was a music icon and a genius in the pop music world.

Grow up and respect the woman.

This Day In Music: 2/18/12

Musician Birthdays: Yoko Ono (singer, poet, author, also most famous as the wife of John Lennon, born in 1933), John Travolta (actor, singer, and dancer, he was made famous in the music industry with “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever”, born in 1954), Dr. Dre (one of the former members of rap group, N.W.A., and most famous for his best selling album “The Chronic”, which included hits, “Let Me Ride” and “Nothing But a G Thang”, born in 1965)

– In 1959: Ray Charles recorded ‘What’d I Say’, in New York City. The song had evolved in concert as a call-and-response between Charles and his female back-up singers. It became Charles’ biggest hit to date, reaching No.1 on the R&B and No.6 on the pop charts.

– In 1965: Working at Abbey Road studios in London, The Beatles recorded two new songs: John Lennon’s ‘You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away’ and a new Paul McCartney song ‘Tell Me What You See’.

– In 1966: Beach Boy Brian Wilson recorded the future classic song ‘Good Vibrations’, which went on to become the band’s third U.S. number-one hit. As a child, his mother told him that dogs could pick up “vibrations” from people, so that the dog would bark at “bad vibrations” Wilson turned this into the general idea for the song.

– In 1971: Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band made their New York debut at Unganos.

– In 1972: On their first Australian tour, Led Zeppelin rescheduled to the following night their concert at the Memorial Drive, Adelaide, after heavy rain left the stage and equipment unsafe. The British Government told the US that it wanted the files to remain secret. MI5 also had files on Lennon, which they had passed on the FBI during the 70’s.

– In 2004: A court case accusing Marilyn Manson of sexual assault was dismissed after the two sides reached a settlement. Security guard Joshua Keasler had sued Manson after the star allegedly put his legs around Keasler’s neck and gyrated against him on stage at a gig in Detroit, Michigan in 2001. Manson was ordered to pay $4,000 (£2,091) in fines and costs in the criminal proceedings.

– In 2005: Britney Spears attacked a US magazine after it published photographs of her honeymoon without permission. Weekly publication Us printed five pages of pictures of Spears and husband Kevin Federline on holiday in Fiji. A statement from US said: “Britney should start her own magazine if she’d like to dictate her own coverage.”

Thought: I’m glad Charlie finally tells the truth about Ashton…

So Charlie Sheen, finally openly admits on TMZ that Ashton Kutcher is a no talent hack!!! Has Charlie gone insane again, or is he telling the truth? Me thinks he’s telling the truth!

I respect most acting talent, but I HATE, Ashton Kutcher. He’s a terrible and boring actor with no talent whatsoever, plus he’s overrated as fuck. I’m sick of seeing Ashton everywhere.

I agree with Charlie, that the show “Two and a Half Men” will fail without him. The show belongs to Charlie, he was the one who helped draw ratings for that show to begin with. I like “Two and a Half Men”, it’s actually one of the better sitcoms. I wouldn’t watch the new seasons with Ashton.

Sometimes I would watch the old re-runs on TV with Charlie on the show. Most sitcoms suck. I only like very few like “Seinfeld”, “Home Improvement” and “Two and a Half Men”.

I’m a Charlie Sheen fan, always has been. WINNING!

Report: Kyle Chandler joins Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden movie…

Kyle Chandler, the star of “Friday Night Lights” and the film”Super 8″, will next star in Kathryn Bigelow’s, Bin Laden movie. Kyle will not be part of Seal Team 6 in the movie, however, he will be playing a CIA agent.

Deadline, reports.

I’ve never seen “Super 8” yet, but I plan on getting around to it soon. I’ve admired Kyle’s acting since, “Friday Night Lights”. He’ll be good in this too. I hope he wins an Oscar for a film someday ’cause he certainly deserves one if he picks the right film for it.

Film Review: Chronicle

Starring: Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan

Directed by: Josh Tranx

Today, I decided to hit the mall to check out a movie and do some shopping around. I didn’t get much for shopping today. Just a couple of movies on DVD (my own copy of “The Help” and “Contagion”), a few music CD’s (the new Van Halen album and Whitney Houston’s Greatest Hits), and a couple more Walking Dead books (3 & 4, I’m planning to collect them all).

When I was at the movies, I was having a hard time trying to find which movie I wanted to see. I almost wanted to see “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 3D”, but then I thought, nah, why see it again when I already have it on DVD, and thinking the 3D won’t make the movie any better, so I said no to “Star Wars”. I also came this close to seeing the new Denzel Washington movie, “Safe House”, but then I ended up looking at the movie, “Chronicle”. The plot to “Chronicle” caught my attention so I ended up seeing this movie today.

Here’s my review.

Plot/synopsis: Three high school best friends: Andrew, Matt, and Steve go to a rave party so Andrew can meet more people. The three teenagers discover a mysterious crystalline object underground through a hole. The strange large object gave them special powers where they can move objects and fly. Andrew video tapes everything to make a documentary of things going on.

This film is another one of those low budget, “found footage” movies. Similar to the “Blair Witch Project”, “Paranormal Activity”, and many others. Most found footage movies are horror films, and finally, we get a found footage movie, that is not horror. This is a superhero movie. It is also an action movie. This movie, “Chronicle” is a completely original story. I don’t think it was adapted from any comic books, not that I know of (correct me if I’m wrong).

This is actually a pretty realistic movie. The writing was good and it made you actually believe that people could do those things. Wish I could!!! The acting was played well by the cast, as the film was full of unknown actors. No big names at all. Who ever did the writing for this movie, certainly knows their shit with the comics and is certainly a comic book geek for sure. This film will make you feel like you’re reading a comic.

There was a lot of intense action. Wow, the action scenes were a blast to watch. The effects and cinematography were pretty cool. The film was made old-school. Kind of like how they made superhero flicks in the 80’s. They didn’t over do the CGI, they used very little, I assume.

Anyway, in this film, while there are no actual superhero’s yet, this is just an introduction of what’s going to happen in the sequel. A villain is introduced in this film but I’m not going to tell you who it is to avoid spoilers. I’m sure the sequel, will have a hero with a costume and all.

I was not bored at all with this film. I enjoyed it all the way through. It was a very short movie. It had mixed emotions. It can get pretty comical as I had a few laughs at a few scenes. Some of the movie can get dark and some can get sad. This is a new “origin” superhero movie that is different than anything else.

I know people are getting tired of superhero films. You don’t even have to be a fan of superheros or comics to watch this film. I was very impressed with the film, and I’m already looking forward to the sequel. While this movie really didn’t do well in the box office (when it should have been a hit), you should really check this movie out.

Score for “Chronicle” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Thought: Why I like to talk about other interests, other than promote myself as a music artist…

There’s a lot of bands & music artists out there who just promotes themselves as a music artist only. They only concentrate on the music, that’s it. That’s how their fans know them as, a musician. Over the years, I’ve promoted my web presence as an entertainment blogger. Speaking my mind on things other than music, like movies, wrestling, politics, bodybuilding/fitness, video games, etc. Why do I do it? Some of you may ask?

I always felt it was important to express who you are, beyond the music. So your fans and supporters, can know other things about you other than music. It keeps them interested and entertained. It’s just my way of getting more fans. Other musicians and bands have other hobbies & interests in their lives, but a lot of them refuse to talk about them publicly. Most bands like to keep for theirselves and concentrate on the music.

Only very few like to talk about other hobbies & interests other than music, like musician Sean Rowe who is a favorite of mine, likes to talk about nature and foraging, which is cool and a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

I wish more bands & musicians would express themselves more.

So this is why I do what I do. When you’re a musician or in a band, you don’t have to promote yourself as a music artist only. If you talk about other things other than music, people will start to see you as an actual human and real. Your fans & supporters deserve to get to know you more, so they can stay loyal to you.

People seem to be confused that I’m more of an internet blogger more than just a musician, but I totally disagree. I’m a 100% both. I’m a human being, that’s who I am, and you can’t separate both. The person behind the blog is just me, and I play the guitar, so to me it doesn’t make sense that people see me as a blogger and not a musician. Think about it, right?

This Day In Music: 2/17/12

Musician Birthdays: Billy Joe Armstrong (guitarist, singer of Green Day, born in 1972), Paris Hilton (business woman, heiress, socialite, singer, actress, etc. She made it in the music business with her hit, “The Stars Are Blind”, born in 1981)

– In 1960: Elvis Presley won his first Gold record for the album ‘Elvis’.

– In 1967: The Beatles started recording a new John Lennon song ‘Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite’ at Abbey Road studios, London. John’s lyrics for the song came almost entirely from an antique poster advertising a circus performance scheduled to take place in Rochdale, Lancashire, in February 1843. John had purchased the poster in Sevenoaks on January 31 while The Beatles were on location for the filming of the ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ promotional film.

– In 1969: Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash recorded ‘Girl From The North Country’ together in Nashville at CBS Studios. The track appeared on Dylan’s ‘Nashville Skyline’ album.

– In 1979: The Clash opened the US leg of their ‘Pearl Harbour ’79’, North American tour at New York’s Palladium.

– In 1996: A Platinum American Express card once belonging to Bruce Springsteen was sold for $4,500 (£2,650) at a New York memorabilia sale. The singer had given the expired card to a waiter in a LA restaurant by mistake and let them keep it as a souvenir.

– In 2000: John Lennon’s Steinway piano, on which he composed ‘Imagine’, went on display at the Beatles Story Museum in Liverpool, England. The piano was set to be auctioned on the Internet later in the year and was expected to fetch more than £1 million ($1.7 million).

– In 2004: Prosecutors in the murder case of producer Phil Spector demanded that a fingernail overlooked by police investigating Lana Clarkson’s shooting should be put forward as evidence. They claimed the fingernail, blackened with gunpowder, could indicate that the 40-year old actress killed herself at Spector’s Los Angeles mansion. Spector, had denied murdering Clarkson.

– In 2005: A 1965 Fender Stratocaster guitar belonging to Jimi Hendrix sold for £100,000 at an auction in London. Other Hendrix items sold included a poem written two weeks after his appearance at the Monterey Festival which went for £10,000 and the first Jimi Hendrix Experience’s single ‘Hey Joe’, signed by all the band sold for £2,000.

Report: CNN will air Whitney Houston funeral this Saturday live for TV/Internet…

Whitney Houston’s funeral this Saturday maybe a private and invite only funeral, but they are still giving everyone permission to see it live on TV and the internet. CNN & HLN will be airing and the Associated Press will be live streaming the funeral too.

Kevin Costner, Aretha Franklin, and Stevie Wonder will speak at the funeral. Bobby Brown has officially been invited, so he will be there too.

More on the story, here.

I’ll be watching. If you plan on watching too, better have a box of tissues nearby ’cause it’s going to be a sad one. It won’t be like Michael Jackson’s public funeral at all.

Even though I never bought Whitney’s music over the years, I’m just thinking of buying her Greatest Hits album.
