Film Review: Bad Teacher

Starring: Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel

Directed by: Jake Kasdan

Today I decided to see a movie. Was gonna go see “Super 8” but the movie changed the time schedules and “Super 8” was at a later time. So I ended up seeing “Bad Teacher” instead. For shopping, I did pick up a few things. I did pick up the new “Duke Nukem: Forever” game and picked up the “Feast for Crows” (the fourth novel of “Game of Thrones” series).

Here is my review for “Bad Teacher”…

Plot/synopsis: Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is a poor Chicago area teacher who curses at her students, drinks heavily, and takes copious amounts of drugs. She plans to marry her wealthy fiance, but when he dumps her, she tries to win over substitute teacher Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), who is also wealthy. Their colleague Amy Squirrell (Lucy Punch) is also pursuing Scott, while the school’s gym teacher Russell Gettis (Jason Segel) is making advances on Elizabeth.[3]

Halsey minimizes work and maximizes financial gain by filling her lessons with showing videos, cheating to win a prize, and for that purpose drugging the man in charge of the state test to steal the test questions, having sex with him and taking photographs of that, and through blackmail getting away with it all.

Well, I guess you can say that this is the first bad movie I’ve seen of 2011. Yes, it was bad. It was a piece of shit. I didn’t even sit through the whole movie. I walked out of it toward the end. Yes, the movie was that boring. Was trying to stay awake throughout most of it, and I didn’t burst out laughing once. The writing was bad, the acting was bad as well. It’s just not a good movie.

Cameron Diaz is 38, almost in her 40’s now. She’s too old for the hot girl thing, in my opinion. She was hot in her younger years, I admired her back then, but she is pretty unflattering in this movie. I don’t know why everyone is praising this movie. Even Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel couldn’t save it. Justin Timberlake needs to go back to music and golfing where he belongs. He’s not a good actor even though he is trying. He belongs in the music business that he’s known for, he’s not an actor.

Just don’t see this one and wait for DVD. I wish I had my 7 dollars back after seeing this piece of shit.

Score for “Bad Teacher” = * (1 star as in “poor’)

Netflix Pick (DVD): Girlfight

I just finished watching the movie, “Girlfight” that stars Michelle Rodriguez. I was very curious to see it because I am a huge fan of her acting and her films. Plus, she’s a gorgeous looking woman as well!!! I loved her in the show, “Lost”, and wanted to see more Michelle. Just rented the movie, “Gilfight”, from Netflix so here is a brief review.

Michelle was pretty young at the time this movie came out. It is her film debut, the film that made her a mainstream actress. She plays a tough girl type of character in high school, where she got into too many fights with other girls. Her brother is training as a boxer at a local boxing gym, so she takes a visit there. While there, she becomes obsessed with boxing and wanted to become a fighter herself. She gets trained there and she is forced to fight against men because there was no women’s boxing where they were. She was the only female fighter.

I was very surprised by this movie. I thought it was a real good one. Even though her character, Diana Guzman is fictional, she felt real and believable. It felt like a biopic film of a real life fighter when it isn’t. That’s how good this movie is. Michelle was really built and jacked back then, too, wow, the muscles on her in this movie. I know this is an older movie, it was released in 2000, but I’m just trying to see more of her work. I also think this is one of the best boxing movies.

It certainly isn’t better than “Rocky” and “The Fighter” but it’s certainly almost up there. I just enjoy watching boxing films. I think there needs to be more boxing movies based on women fighting. Even though the sport of professional boxing is no longer popular anymore, boxing movies is still going strong since “The Fighter” won a lot of awards and was pretty successful in the box office.

Back to “Gilfight”, Michelle plays a lot of tough girl characters in her career, but she’s a real badass in this flick. While she is pretty mean in this movie, she does have heart. Once you start the film, it’ll keep you watching. Michelle Rodriguez is a popular actress and people say she got all the recognition for this movie that she’s known for, now I can see why. This is obviously her best role. She also got recognized for her work in “Lost” and “The Fast & The Furious” series, but it’s this film here, “Girlfight” that made her recognizable.

Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. I enjoyed the film.

Cool Video: “Apollo 18” trailer is here!!

Inspired by hand held camera low budget movies such as “Blair Witch Project, “Paranormal Activity”, “Quarantine”, they take found footage movies in a different direction by taken the genre out in space. “Apollo 18” is about the last mission on the moon taken place in the 1970’s, where two astronauts visits the moon and explains why we never visited there again.

I know this footage in the film isn’t real although they claim it is, it’s obviously scripted and acted, but it is inspired by the real story.

I think the trailer looks interesting. I’m interested in science and outer space stuff, so this will be good to see.

Enjoy the trailer here. The film comes out Sept. 2nd of this year.

Report: Haley Joel Osment makes a comeback to acting to star in a film about Frankenstein…

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Haley Joel Osment, in the movies, haven’t we? Yes it sure has! The last time we’ve seen Haley in a big screen movie is Steven Spielberg’s “Artificial Intelligence” which that film was released back in 2001. Haley is no child anymore, he’s a full grown man now.

I think the reason for the time off is that back in 2006, remember the dangerous car accident he had? He struck into a brick mailbox and his car flipped over near his home. He was drunk and on drugs, of course. I remember, he was arrested for it and he was sentenced to three years probation, was sent to AA, and education classes.

Look like he is all done with that stuff and he ready to make a comeback in film. Haley’s comeback film is a horror film titled,”Wake the Dead” which is a re-telling of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” in our current time.

More on it, here.

Nice to see Haley back, and hope he stays out of trouble. I was a huge fan of the “Sixth Sense” and “A.I.”, both are great films.

Cool Video: “Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol” trailer is online!!!

Finally, the “Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol” trailer is here! I watch the trailer and I’m actually very impressed with it. I liked the first Mission Impossible film but I didn’t like the 2nd and 3rd one. This one actually looks very promising. I hope this is a good movie but it’s pretty common that trailers try to make bad movies look good. I’ll go see this one, so I hope it doesn’t suck. From the looks of the trailer, it looks like an action packed ride.

I’ll have to re-watch the first three, “Mission Impossible” movies before this one comes out though. I hope the 4th one don’t disappoint.

Cool Video: Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” trailer is finally online!

We all know Steven Spielberg took a long break from directing his own movies. During his break, he spent most of his time producing other films. He just finished “War Horse” his latest directorial film and it will hit theaters this Christmas. I love Steven Spielberg movies so I will probably go see this one. The film looks very good. Glad he’s finally back to serious dramas where he’s best at. This is his first directorial film since 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”.

He’s got a few more directorial films coming up. The animated “Adventures of Tin Tin” and he’s got the “Abraham Lincoln” biopic coming up soon.

John Williams scored the music for “War Horse”. Since John Williams is still scoring movies, will he score for Zack Snyder’s “Superman”? I’m hoping.

Enjoy the trailer for “War Horse”. Looks great.

Report: Tom Petty to Michele Bachman, “Ummmm, maybe you should ask me first before you use my song.”

Remember Jackson Browne sued John McCain for using “Running On Empty” at the rallies without permission? Well, it’s de ja vu all over again. Presidential 2012 hopeful, Michele Bachman just received “Cease and Desist” letter from Tom Petty’s lawyers, ordering her to stop using his song, “American Girl” at her rallies.

More on the story, here.

When will people respect copyright and understand it?

What is one musician or band from Albany that I think deserves fame nationally???

I think Sean Rowe has a very good chance in hitting the big time very quickly. I predict Sean will make it big before Phantogram makes it. I mean, hell, Sean is on the same label as Tom Waits and Nick Cave, which is pretty impressive. I’m such a huge fan of Sean’s music that I can’t stop listening to his album “Magic” on my Ipod. That album is such a masterpiece. It’s the best album I ever heard by a musician in the Albany area, period. That album has so much passion and intensity to it, how come other bands aren’t writing like that?

Sean has an Albany show in Aug. at the Market Place and I’m going to do my best to make it out to this one. Ya never know, this could be the only time you’ll see Sean in Albany and then he could hit the big time, next year. I’ve supported his music for years, been reading his blogs about “nature” and “foraging” is interesting stuff, and I watch his youtube videos too.

Sean is the only music artist in this area that deserves fame more than anybody, in my opinion. I’m sure most would agree with me on this one. He works hard, promotes hard, travels hard, and he has lots of fans every where. That’s why he gets my respect.

I’m sure we’ll see Sean perform on Jimmy Fallon pretty soon, just give it time. I’m kind of surprised he hasn’t performed on national TV yet, but he will, I’m sure.
