Thought: Sorry Madonna fans but I agree with Sir Elton that she needs to stop being a fairground stripper and quit…

Elton John did an interview with an Australian TV show, “Sunday Night”, and the Rocket Man has some harsh words to say about, Madonna. Elton says she is a fairground stripper, and says she hasn’t been making good pop records anymore like she used to. He also says, she’s been horrible to Lady Gaga, which I also agree with.

More on the story, here.

Elton brings up valid points and I agree with everything he said about Madonna. Madonna hasn’t been interesting for a while now. Her last great album was “Erotica” back in ’92. That was a really good album but everything else she has done after that? *puke*

Plus, she’s WAY too old to be looking like a sex symbol at 53. Madonna needs to show Lady Gaga respect, because Madonna was Gaga’s inspiration to begin with. Madonna is the reason, Gaga is here, but nope, Madonna’s jealousy and ego gets in the way.

Congrats to Doug Marks and 30 years of business with, “Metal Method” guitar instructional course…

To you musicians out there, you may have heard the name, Doug Marks. You may have heard the Metal Method, guitar instructional company over the years. I’m sure you’ve even seen Metal Method get advertised through most music magazines, especially guitar magazines like, Guitar World. I have learned some stuff from Metal Method for a little bit. When I first started out on guitar, I had a few cassette tapes from Doug’s course to help get started on guitar playing. Plus, I learned to sing through their “Vocal Power” instructional DVD with, Jim Gillette. This is no fake course, or no scam or anything like that. It’s real instructional stuff, and it really works. Doug Marks is one of the best guitar instructors out there, in my opinion. Someday, I will buy their entire guitar course whenever I have the extra cash, so I can further my guitar chops to a new level. Congrats to Doug and 30 years. Doug Marks gets my respect ’cause it’s amazing that he kept the company alive after all these years.

Report: Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, releases statement, thanks the fans for support and vows to fight back…

Now that Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, is out on bail and back in his hometown, he put out a statement. Talked about a few things. He thanked fans and supporters for their support while he was in jail in Prague. He also explains that the prison guards and other inmates treated Randy kindly. Plus, he vows to return to Prague so he can fight to get his name cleared. As you can see, he is maintaining his innocence.

I wish him good luck. He’s probably an innocent man, sure, but metal singers can’t be trusted.

Cool Video: Listen to Sharon Van Etten’s “Love More” here…

Man, I’m fuckin’ blown away by this song, “Love More” by Sharon Van Etten. So incredibly powerful! This song gives me goosebumps all the way through. Such a beautiful song. A lot of sadness in it too. This is HOW you should write songs. Write songs with heart, that will melt peoples faces, well this song did it to me. I want to get her albums asap. I will soon. Can’t stop listening to her music. She’s definitely one of the best new artists in the, independent market.

Edit to add: Just posted another video where she’s doing the same song, acepella. Shows she can really sing.

Brock’s been falling in love with a new music artist… Sharon Van Etten…

I don’t have any of her albums yet, but I plan on buying her 3 albums from Itunes soon. She’s an independent artist named, Sharon Van Etten, who is a New York City native. I came across her music by accident and fell in love with her tunes. Her music really blows my mind and gives me goosebumps. Beautiful songwriter. She actually has 5 albums, but her first two albums, I believe, she released herself without a label, then she got signed, independently. Her and the band just played Lolapalooza yesterday afternoon and I caught some of her set live youtube stream. She’s an intense performer too. She’s confident and plays with heart. She’s getting popularity pretty quick, and I hope she stays right in the indie market. An excellent artist like her doesn’t need to be signed under a major label. I’m not into today’s singer/songwriter stuff that much, but Sharon’s music is very good. She’s a phenomenal songwriter and I would like to get my chance to see her live. Check her out yourself in the videos below.

She’s got mostly male fans, which is cool. Something about her music that draws men toward her. I’m gonna get her music for my Ipod soon.

Report: Randy Blythe finally freed from Prague prison on bail…

While it’s good news that Lamb of God singer, Randy Blythe, is finally freed on bail, and he’s going back on tour with the band to play, Knotfest, I still kind of don’t trust him being back out there. He could do this to somebody else, if he gets too aggressive on stage. I’m sure the people in Prague are a little suspicious and worried too.

Report: Snoop Dogg changes his staged name, image and genre… he is now Snoop Lion…

After a little vacation in Jamaica, Snoop Dogg is completely retiring from the hip hop genre and wants to forget his past as a hip hop star. He changed his staged name, image and genre. He’s been inspired to play reggae music. He wants to start a reggae career under the, Snoop Lion, name. He already performed 5 new songs for a small crowd, while in Jamaica.

More on the story, here.

After years of making smash hit hip hop records, he’s turning his back on the hip hop industry and his longtime fans? Sure, looks like it! He can change himself, all he wants to, he will forever be known as, the Dogg.

On top of all this, Snoop, is not Jamaican, even though he think he is now. Snoop is an American and was born in California. Most reggae musicians over the years were actual Jamaicans. Snoop is just living in a fantasy world and being delusional. I understand how he wants to grow out of hip hop, the older he gets though, I’ll give him that respect.

Why musicians responding to haters or critics is wrong, and unprofessional…

See? Even the famous musicians can have a big problem lashing out at the haters publicly! Mike Portnoy, former drummer of Dream Theater, left D.T. last year. He is still getting a public backlash about leaving D.T. to this day. I believe that this is what he is responding to.

See Mike Portnoy’s official facebook, here

I’m a longtime Dream Theater fan and I used to respect Mike Portnoy, but after seeing how I see him act on his facebook, I just lost my respect. I unliked his facebook page today.

When I first started out in music, I used to have a problem responding to negative backlashes and I used to lash out at the haters, all the time. Over the years, I learn to ignore everything as much as possible. Even to this day, I try my best to not respond to anything negative about me. Why is it wrong for a musician to lash out at people? Bad karma will come back at you for it later. If you continue to respond to critics in a negative way, you will continue to lose support from people who once supported you and you’ll lose your chances at moving forward in your music career. It’ll make you the badguy instead by responding to everything and defending yourself.

People online are usually pretty honest. If they see musicians misbehaving, make no mistake, people will let you know about it. If you act like an asshole, people will let you know about it. I’ve been there, knowing from my own experience. I’m not right on everything I do online. I’ll admit, I say dumb things sometimes and wish I treated people better in the past…but what’s done is done. Can’t change the past. I still get people disliking me because of my past. I still have people who want nothing to do with me because of my online web presence. Some people claim that my web presence is disturbing, but whatever, ya know? I am who I am, there’s nothing people can do about that.

When you’re a musician and put yourself out there publicly, not everyone is going to like you, period. Just be grateful for the mix opinions, good or bad. I learned to be grateful about mixed reactions and learned to handle things better as I go along.

What are ways for musicians to never get any haters or critics? Simply put, just have a positive & professional attitude, at all times. If you can do that, people will be positive to you in return. That’s good karma. Leave your ego out of things. Don’t explain yourself and don’t defend yourself about things. Don’t say one negative thing at all. I’m trying my best to do just that as you can see. Getting better.

With that being said, making photos or videos flipping the bird at the critics or lashing out at them publicly, that’s a childish thing to do in your part. It makes you look ridiculous. I’ll admit, I’ve been bad at times too. Musicians respond to haters, just to get their fans to show them their support as a way to prove the critics that the musician is respected. That is not a way to show the world that you are respected. You earn the respect by carefully putting yourself out there, professionally. The other guys in Dream Theater must be embarrassed by the way Portnoy is acting on his page.

I’ll have more to say on this topic another time.

Brock defends the London Olympics opening ceremony…

I am noticing that the Olympics London Ceremony last night, is getting a lot of negative criticism. The negative criticism is mostly coming from people from the USA. So far, I haven’t seen much people from the UK, slamming the Opening Ceremony. If you think about it, you’re not going to see much people from the U.K., slamming the Ceremony, probably none at all. Why? Because it’s their home country. They would love the Ceremony, of course.

What us Americans don’t understand about the Brits, we don’t understand the U.K.’s way of thinking and we don’t understand their way of entertaining people. Last night’s Ceremony, was celebrating pop culture of the United Kingdom. It was celebrating everything from music, to movies, to books, etc. During the children’s hospital segment, that was when Mike Oldfield was on the stage, playing parts of “Tubular Bells” (which is the theme for the film, “The Exorcist”), then J.K. Rowling came on to do some reading. There were also appearances of Captain Hook and Mary Poppins.

If you watch the Ceremony again, I’m sure you can find plenty of songs that were played on there, that you didn’t even catch. Like I said before, the music being played last night, they were playing all the music from U.K. movement: The Who, Led Zep, the Jam, the Clash, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Stones, Bowie, etc. It even went as far as playing newer British music like the Chemical Brothers and Adele. Anything in the entertainment business from the U.K., you would find in the Opening Ceremony.

Some Americans are wondering why Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) was used. Well, he is a big legend and an icon in the United Kingdom. He may not be very well known and not very liked in the U.S., but in the UK, Mr. Bean is a big megastar. The Brits, love Mr. Bean. I thought Mr. Bean, being a part of it was pretty appropriate.

I like the Brits way of entertaining people. They are unique and different than us. Watch the Ceremony again, if you have it on DVR. There’s plenty of mysterious hidden songs played throughout the Ceremony that are hard to catch. Mr. Boyle was certainly playing a “guess this song”, game with us for sure. Danny Boyle got the job ’cause he understands his country of the United Kingdom, better than anybody. The reason the Ceremony was theatrical and like a musical ’cause the United Kingdom has been widely known for theater. After the work, Danny Boyle did with “Slumdog Millionaire”, it was obvious he would be the only man to direct the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

I’m looking forward to see how Danny is going to close the Olympics. Will the Rolling Stones do their live reunion at the Closing Ceremony? Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s going to happen. Maybe Adele would perform the Closing too, who knows.

As far as the James Bond scene goes, that was alright, I guess, I just didn’t like how they used a stunt double for the Queen to jump out of the plane to arrive in Olympics stadium. They could have came up with a better idea than that, but I guess, it’s part of the UK’s humor. They have a different sense of humor than us. I think Danny Boyle is a genius, and he did a great job last night.

Report: Lady Gaga confirmed to star in Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete Kills”…

Lady Gaga, confirmed the surprising news that she will be starring in Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to “Machete”, titled, “Machete Kills”. Yes, she will star alongside Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, etc. As you can see in the poster, she’ll be playing a character called, La Chameleon.

I know this casting is controversial to some. Some are going to hate her for this and say that she shouldn’t be in the movie. I would give her a chance and not judge before the movie.

You should know by now folks, that music stars gets turned into actors in this day and age of the entertainment business. As a matter of fact. Music stars turning into movie stars have been happening for years. It all started with Elvis Presley, I believe. Then we got Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Meat Loaf, Michael Jackson, Kris Kristofferson, Dwight Yoakam, Randy Travis, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Madonna, Will Smith, etc.

You say music stars don’t have any acting talent that they don’t deserve to be in the movies? Well, I’m sure they have some acting experience ’cause a lot of music stars do a lot of music videos, so that helps them give some acting experience. Think about it.

Gaga’s role in this film could be pretty cool. I’m looking forward to this film.
