RIP John Lennon who suddenly passed 36 years ago today…

George Harrison has always been my favorite Beatle but I listened to John’s music over the years. I like John’s solo stuff and the songs he wrote with the Beatles. Everybody wants to post John’s “Imagine” which is a great tune, no doubt but my favorite Lennon song is “Working Class Hero”.

“Show Me How To Live” by Audioslave… thinking about giving this song a try soon…

Some of; you may know that I’m a huge fuckin’ Chris Cornell fan. Like a lot of people, I think he’s a phenomenal singer. Over the years, I’ve tried to follow all of Chris’s projects whether through Soundgarden, his solo career and even Audioslave. There’s no doubt that this guy is one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

I’d like to try to sing this song ’cause it’s a favorite of mine. I could probably get the verses down pretty good but the chorus, not sure… the vocals in the chorus are pretty high. I could give it a shot, though. Maybe I could sing this one.

I’m not a big fan of Tom Morello’s politics but his guitar playing in this song is badass.

You see bands? James Hetfield finally admitted that Metallica aren’t great musicians… you should try that sometime…

I love how humble James Hetfield is. There is no ego in this guy at all. While talking about Metallica’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon playing kids instruments that went viral, James admitted that Metallica aren’t really that great musicians. James admits that Metallica makes a lot of mistakes on stage. He also admits that sometimes Metallica are tight on stage and sometimes they aren’t. He also admits that Metallica are afraid to jam with certain people.

We need more humble bands like Metallica. Most bands these days whether national or local are so arrogant and ego-driven, it’s crazy. A lot of bands out there can’t take any criticism of any kind. When they do get negative criticism, they become all defensive.

When Metallica responds to criticism, they can be like, “Oh, we do our best. We just make music for ourselves, we can’t please everyone”. That’s another humble response.

When a lot of bands go on stage, a lot of bands are like, “We’re gonna go onstage and kill it. Tear the house down”. How about something more humble instead like, “We’re gonna go on stage and give it our best.” I like that better.

A lot of Metallica fans are always negatively criticizing the musicianship of Hetfield, Ulrich and Hammett. They know that Rob Trujillo is a great bassist but they’re always criticizing his look & image… they believe Rob’s image doesn’t fit in Metallica. You see, y’all… playing in a band or a solo act is not about looking great or playing great. You don’t have to be the greatest musician in the world to do what you love to do. It’s about the music, really. That’s what Metallica is in it for. They do it ’cause they enjoy it and you can tell that the boys in Metallica enjoy it. That’s what being a musician is about, “enjoyment”. Who cares if you’re not good looking or if you’re not the greatest player in the world. Just play music ’cause you simply love it. That’s what I do it for.

Kudos, James and keep saying this stuff!

Happy birthday, Billy Idol…

I’m a huge Billy Idol fan. I’ve heard all the albums he has done over the years. I just love his songs and his singing style. He’s also a huge inspiration for my own music. When he sings I love how he sings with grit, distortion or a rasp whatever you want to call it. Singing with a little “growling” but not quite. Billy has the full package for sure. He not only has talent but he also looks great on stage and entertaining as hell to watch when he performs. I’m trying to sing like how he does myself, that gritty and raspy voice that he has. It’s hard to get down, it’s not easy. I’ve looked up to Billy Idol for many years. While he still makes great music, I prefer his older stuff in the 80’s.

Congrats to Metallica. Their new album, “Hardwired to Self Destruct” is no. 1 on Billboard 200…

I’ve always believed that rock & metal can make another comeback. It’s possible that rock & metal can take over the industry again just like the good old 90’s. It’s very rare that a metal album makes no. 1 in the Billboard 200 since pop & rap is still dominating but metal can be no. 1 again.

I still haven’t gotten the new album yet but will pick up a copy when I do my Christmas shopping which should be soon. I think I’m gonna get this album on physical CD instead of digitally. I want the cover and booklet and all.

George Strait calls out the country music industry for not playing his songs on the radio in a new song called, “Kicked Outta Country”…

George Strait is a country music legend who has been in the business for over 30 years. He is a hit maker too. Wrote a lot of songs that we all know and love. Well, it seems like in this day and age of the music industry, nobody cares about him anymore. George wanted to make a point of that with this new song he just released called, “Kicked Outta Country”. FM Country stations all over the United States used to play his hits all the time but these days nobody wants to play his singles anymore. In this song, Strait wanted to rant about that and he points out that other country music legends went through the same thing like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, etc. The country music industry keeps rejecting Strait’s records and people wonder why that is.

http://tasteofcountry.com/george-strait-country-radio-kicked-outta-country/

I can absolutely see why nobody wants to play George Strait’s songs on the radio anymore. Simply put is because they feel he is “way too country” and not “pop” enough. These days the country radio are playing songs by Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, etc. All that stuff I listed sounds way too pop & R&B. That’s what country music is playing nowadays. This is what people are listening to nowadays. Nobody wants to hear real country music anymore. The song I posted above, that’s what real country music is supposed to sound like. Ya know, the southern accent in the singing… the table slide guitar in the background. Nobody wants to hear real country like George Strait, Randy Travis, Clint Black, Dwight Yoakam or Loretta Lynn anymore. Everybody wants to hear crap like Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line, etc. I think you get my point now.

I hear George, though and can’t blame him for writing a song about it. I used to be a country music fan but with the way country is going today? Blech. Today’s country doesn’t sound like country anymore. Why do you think Taylor Swift went pop? The music industry doesn’t care. They’ll make music whatever makes the money and that’s all they care about. Today’s country is sounding pop is ’cause it helps make the industry the money. That’s why they don’t care about real country anymore.

I do like George Strait though. I used to listen to him a lot when I was young.

Happy birthday Jimi Hendrix…

Like always my top three favorite guitar heroes that made me want to pick up the guitar and play are JImmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani. Hendrix is definitely one of the reasons I play. He was the one that made me want to play lead guitar. I’ve been trying to play lead guitar for the past 20 years. I’m still not all that good at lead guitar playing but I’m getting there. When I first started playing guitar, I used to try to figure out how to play Hendrix songs and learn his licks and stuff.

His music has always been important to me. While his studio albums are great, I like to mostly listen to his live albums because listening to him live is way more fun. Probably because Hendrix knew how to jam and was an improv master. I love Hendrix. Will never get tired of listening to his music.

What musicians in today’s industry will perform at Trump’s inauguration???

This stupid article is trying to make it seem like that not many artists in the music industry today supports Donald Trump. Well this article here is a lie. Ted Nugent is not the only music artist who is all for Trump.

No one seems to want to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration

What about singer Wayne Newton who attended one of Trump/Hillary debates as a guest? Also country legend, Loretta Lynn endorsed Trump. Rapper Azealia Banks is a Trump supporter. There is also Kid Rock. Gene Simmons of Kiss also spoke positively about Trump over the year. There is also actor & singer, Robert Davi. What about singer Aaron Carter? Now you can add Kanye West and Paris Hilton to the list.

I can see Wayne Newton singing at Trump’s inauguration for sure. Maybe Kid Rock too.

I’m sure there are more bands & musicians that are all for Trump, maybe they are just supporting him quietly? Maybe they’re just afraid that it’ll hurt their careers if they publicly endorsed Trump so they keep it to themselves.

I’m sure Trump will find music artists to perform at his inauguration. I’m sure some liberal singers will perform at Trump’s inauguration. Try to remember, Trump is an expert negotiator… he’s good at getting what he wants so if he wants Billy Joel or John Legend to sing at his inauguration, he’ll have to make a deal with them.

It’ll be interesting to see who Trump will get to perform at his inauguration. On Jan. 20th, I’ll watch the inauguration on TV to watch Trump get sworn in and all that stuff.
