Jimmy Page previews his photographic memoir book…

Most rock stars write their memoirs by text. Jimmy Page is doing his a little differently by telling his life and music career by photos which is creative and something different! Jimmy Page is a pretty artistic guy so it should be no surprise that he would come up with something like this.

This book looks pretty cool and I’m 100% positive that all Zeppelin fanatics like myself are dying to own this. This book will only be available in the UK for now but hopefully it’ll soon be sold in the US. I’d love to get my hands on that book myself. Jimmy’s one of my guitar heroes. I give him so much credit for making me want to pick up the guitar. I play because of him.

Morrissey reveals he’s been getting treatment for cancer…

I never bought albums from the Smiths or Morrissey’s solo career but I have heard a lot of songs from both over the years. I was meaning to start getting into music by the Smiths and Morrissey’s solo pretty soon. I’ve always respected Morrissey. He’s a talented guy and I respect him for his brutal honesty.

Morrissey reveals here that he’s been getting treatment for cancer. I support cancer victims ’cause I’ve had important people in my life who have died from it. Cancer sucks.

After reading Morrissey’s “If I Die, I Die” comments, it sounds like he isn’t afraid of death at all! I am praying for this guy and hope he fights the cancer successfully. Hope he gets well.

Avenged Sevenfold doesn’t suck, in fact… they freakin’ kick ass!!!

The metal band, Avenged Sevenfold, have gotten some mixed criticism over the years. This band is very popular and successful but this is another one of those bands that you either love or hate. My question why all the hate? I just listened to their latest album, “Hail To The King” this morning and I didn’t hear what is so bad about them. In my opinion, these guys fuckin’ rock. \m/

I was impressed with their latest album, “Hail To the King” and now it makes me want to buy their previous albums pretty soon. They only have like 5 or 6 albums in their discography so technically they’re a pretty new band. I really dig this band, though. There’s nothing wrong with this band at all.

The way I heard them, they are thrash metal kind of like what you hear in the 80’s. They are like Metallica and Maiden put together. I think the guitar playing in this band is great. They come up with awesome riffs and guitar solos. I also dig the singer’s voice whose name is, M. Shadows.

Before badly judging the band, you should actually listen to them first. It took me a long while to get into this band but now I understand them and believe in them. I think they’re great. This is one band that deserves to become the next Metallica/Kiss but like Gene Simmons said though, the way this industry is going these days the legendary status will never happen for A7X sadly.

You should give A7X a chance like I did.

6 album purchases this week…

So today, I decided to hit the mall for something to do and check out the film, “Gone Girl” which I will review right after this post. I purchased 6 music albums both digitally and on physical CD.

Here’s the list of albums I purchased this week:

  • Robert Plant “Lullaby and The Ceaseless Roar” (physical CD) – I told ya before I was gonna get this album and I did. I really enjoyed his “Rainbow” single and that was good enough for me to want to get the album. Even though I haven’t heard the album yet, I’m sure it is amazing.
  • Avenged Sevenfold “Hail To The King” (physical CD) – It took me a long while to get into these guys. At first I didn’t like them but over the years, I’ve read so much about this band through various music magazines. Mostly through Guitar World since this band is hyped a lot in that magazine. Chris Jericho the wrestler also talks about this band a lot so I figure eh, maybe I should have a change of heart with this band and actually listen to them? So I listened to a few of the band’s songs in youtube and ended up liking them a lot. I ended up buying their most popular album, “Hail to the King”. I’m sure it’s a good one.
  • Slash and Myles Kennedy “World on Fire” (digital) – I’m a huge fan of Slash’s solo career so I got the new album by him. I’m sure it rocks like always. I’ve been a huge fan of Slash’s guitar playing for years.
  • Joe Bonamassa “Different Shades of Blue” (digital) – I’ve been interested in Joe Bonamassa’s music for a long time and finally getting into him too. He’s one of the great blues players left these days. He really is a brilliant guitarist. Can’t wait to listen to this album which I will soon. Joe is coming to perform for us in Albany pretty soon which should be a kick ass show, I’d like to go to that show but won’t be able to.
  • Yes “Heaven & Earth” and “Fragile” (digital) – I’ve heard their songs on the radio over the years but never bought their albums. I’ve read a great interview with Steve Howe in Guitar World recently and that was good enough to make me want to get the new Yes album, “Heaven and Earth” so I bought it and downloaded it from Itunes. Along with it, I also bought their classic album, “Fragile”.

I’m planning to give all these albums a listen this weekend.

Roger Waters responds to fan criticism about not being involved with “Endless River”, he tells them to “Get a Grip”…

Roger Waters himself responds to fan criticism about not being involved with the new Pink Floyd album, “Endless River”. He says that he left the band like over 30 years ago and he hasn’t been a part of Floyd since, yet people kept bugging him about it. Even people kept bugging his wife about it. Roger must be getting frustrated and annoyed. He sounds like it from the article above.

I don’t think he wants to be involved with Pink Floyd ever again. Even though he buried the hatchet with Gilmour and Mason, he just wants to move on and do his own thing, ya know??? If Roger wanted to be involved with Pink Floyd, I’m sure Gilmour and Mason would allow him to come back anytime he wants to.

I understand how people can’t see a band without it’s founding members but hey, band members changes over the years. We’re in this day and age where fans wanna see legendary and iconic bands continue on with their founding members but they refuse to support the fact that bands move on without their founding members. Quite sad, really. I’ll have a rant about that in a different post another time.

I hate that bands wanna move on without their founding members too… I’m feeling everyone but that’s the name of the game in the music business. That’s how it is. Bands continue on ’cause that’s what they do, play music. They do what they have to do… they don’t give a shit what the fans think, sorry to say. They just do what’s right for them.

Al Di Meola will release electric album in 2015…

Al Di Meola just announced that he will finally release an all electric guitar album next year in 2015. Sounds like he hasn’t done an electric album in a long time. He has been doing a lot of acoustic stuff lately.

Check out the video above. Ain’t he a pretty sick player?

I’m glad I finally got into his music and plan on getting another album of his this week. I wanna get more of his music.

Jimmy Page planning a solo tour and will play material spanning his entire career…

People will never leave Jimmy and Robert alone on the Zeppelin reunion. *sigh* Move on and get over it, people! I would like a Led Zep reunion to happen myself but I understand bands want to move on. I support their decision of wanting to move on. They already gave us that reunion back in 2007 but nope, fans won’t leave the band alone. Crazy, ain’t it? I’m a die-hard Zeppelin fanatic and would support anything they do.

I’m happy for Jimmy, Robert and Jonesy wanting to move on to do their own projects. Robert just released a new solo album and Jimmy Page is getting ready to play music again. However, he’s gonna start a new band. So he’s probably gonna go on a solo tour and release a new album.

When Jimmy forms his new band, it doesn’t look like he’ll be collaborating with big-name musicians. Jimmy hints that he will be finding musicians that you never heard of before so that means he’ll be looking for unknowns, from the article above, Jimmy says: “If I was to play again, it would be with musicians that would be… some of the names might be new to you. I haven’t put them together yet, but I’m going to do that next year. If I went out to play, I would play material that spanned everything from my recording career right back to my very, very early days with THE YARDBIRDS. There would certainly be some new material in there as well.”

As you just read, Jimmy will be playing songs spanning his entire career everything from Led Zep, The Yardbirds, Coverdale/Page, his solo career (yes, he released a solo album called, “Outrider”) and other projects. He said he will throw some new material as well so that means he probably plans on releasing a new album.

It’ll be pretty cool if Jimmy can get a singer who can sing like a young Robert Plant. Someone with real singing pipes who can get to those high pitch screams like Robert did back in the day.

I’m looking forward to Jimmy getting back out there next year. He really is one of my guitar heroes. He’s the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place.

Is Tony Iommi done with Black Sabbath??? Not yet…

Tony Iommi maybe suffering cancer right now but even that is not slowing him down. He is just going to keep playing music until he can’t. Ozzy says that Black Sabbath is planning one last studio album and tour in 2015. The album will feature Tony, Geezer and Ozzy in the line-up still. Will Bill Ward be on board for the final Sabbath album? Who knows. We’ll have to wait and see what Bill says. He’s probably still gonna say “no” until Sabbath gives him what he wants, a negotiable contract but anyway, even if Bill doesn’t want in… who cares. Sabbath have went through so many members over the years.

Anyway, the next Sabbath album will be considered the 20th Sabbath album and would be the 10th album w/ Ozzy as singer.

I thought Sabbath’s latest album, “13” was pretty sick but it could have been heavier and darker. Hopefully, the next one will be a lot heavier. “13” was still a great album, though.

Even with cancer, Tony is still a pretty amazing guitarist and he can still come up with badass guitar riffs and play ripping solos. I’m sure he’ll do the same with the next album.

Robert Plant sings Doo Wop with Jimmy Fallon…

I thought this was pretty good. Jimmy Fallon singing Doo Wop music with Robert Plant. Seeing Robert’s reaction to the Ipad was funny shit… that had me crackin’ up. The way Robert reacts to the sample recording is funny too.

Guess Robert is still trying to figure out today’s technology, HA!

Keep in mind back when Robert was young like in his 20’s, there was none of this stuff. Back in the 70’s, there were no computers, internet, social networking, Iphones, Ipads, etc. So I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know anything about today’s technology.

Enjoy the video. I’ll be getting the new Robert Plant album soon. I really loved the “Rainbow” song.

Al Di Meola begins work on new studio album???

Al Di Meola posted that cryptic photo above teasing fans that he maybe working on a new studio album. Notice how he wrote, “recording sessions” in the photo. That means he’s been in the studio recording again. Over the past year, Al Di Meola have been touring pretty heavily. Look like he finally wants to take a break and record a new album.

If he is indeed recording his new album, this will be his 24th studio album. Yeah, he’s been around that long. His latest album was his Beatles tribute album that he released last year.

I’ve been interested in this guy’s music for years and I’m just finally starting to get into him. I only have three albums of his on my Ipod for now but will try to get a lot more of his albums. I own his Beatles tribute album and it’s amazing stuff.

I got interested in Al Di Meola ’cause I’ve read so much about him through Guitar World magazine pretty much. Other musicians have talked about him and he’s done plenty of interviews with Guitar World. I’ve also been watching his live performances in youtube quite a lot so now I’m finally starting to collect his studio albums.

He really is a sick guitarist. He’s one of the best out there right now. He’s one guitarist who should get mainstream recognition and he absolutely deserves a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction too. Sure, he’s mostly jazz but if you listen to his music, he puts a lot of rock n’ roll and fusion into his music too. He counts as a rock n’ roll artist too. The guy can play just about anything.

He’s beginning to be one of my guitar heroes. I can’t stop listening to his music and I definitely want to collect as much of his albums as I can. I’ll be looking forward to his new one too! Bring it, Al!
