Foo Fighters to make comeback with 8th studio album and HBO TV series…

Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters took a little bit of a hiatus since their 2011 album, “Wasting Light” and the Foo’s are ready to make their full time comeback. The band is coming back with a new album and a new show for HBO directed/produced by Dave Grohl himself.

More on the story here:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dave-grohl-confirms-new-foo-fighters-album-details-hbo-doc-series-20140515

Seems like Dave is getting himself into movie making more than making music. Last year he made the documentary, “Sound City” and now he’s doing a documentary for the Foo Fighters.

Is Dave slowly aiming for a career in Hollywood? I think if there was ever a Kurt Cobain biopic film, I think Dave should direct it. I doubt Dave wants to get into Hollywood full time but he might consider it when he retires from music.

I’m glad the Foo Fighters are back. I’ve always loved the band. Loved them for years since their first album. Still do love ’em! While most of today’s rock music is garbage, the Foo Fighters is the only band these days that are considered true rock n’ roll.

Can’t wait for their new album!!!!

Jimmy Page, “It’s time to play again!!!”…

Jimmy Page just recently had an interview with the Boston Globe, discussing his current projects and future projects… the guitar master just dropped some big hints that he maybe finally ready to release a new album and to hit the stage again. NOT with Led Zeppelin but perhaps, a solo album or with a different band? Jimmy Page spent the last few years working real hard on the Led Zeppelin remasters and now that he’s all finished… he’s finally ready to play music of his own. However, he doesn’t know who’s he going to be playing with yet for his next record and tour, though. Jimmy’s been sitting on some new material and he says he’s ready to get that stuff out there.

Read what he have to say here:

http://www.guitarworld.com/jimmy-page-hints-new-material-its-time-play-again

Will Jimmy form a super-group of some kind??? Kind of like what John Paul Jones did with, Them Crooked Vultures???

On Jimmy’s next project, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gonna get the Foo Fighters involved. He’s very close with Dave Grohl and the band. Maybe Dave can drum for Jimmy’s next album? Jonesy can play the bass on it as well. If not Dave Grohl, maybe Jason Bonham will drum for Jimmy’s new album? Would be cool.

You’ll never know what Jimmy will do next. He’s always unpredictable. He hinted that he wrote a lot of songs on acoustic guitar so his next record maybe more acoustic??? Whatever he’s planning, I know it will be genius.

It’s been a long time since he’s done something on his own. Even though there won’t be a Led Zeppelin reunion anytime soon, I’m sure Pagey will STILL play a lot of Led Zep songs on his next tour. I’m predicting a Jimmy Page comeback for 2015 maybe???

“Weird Al” Yankovic in studio recording new album???

Is Weird Al in the studio recording new album? Looks like it. I wonder what parodies he’s planning on doing for his next album? Did he just give us a hint in this photo? Wondering if he’s planning to do “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult? It’ll be cool if he did an album of classic rock parodies but I doubt that’s what he’s got planned. He’s probably gonna focus on the current pop scene… do parodies of stuff like Lady Gaga, Bieber, Kanye, etc.

I like Weird Al… always had.

Al Di Meola…

So yesterday afternoon, I got around to listening to Al Di Meola’s album, “Elegant Gypsy”. This was the first album I purchased of his and it’s a good one to start off with. I picked, “Elegant Gypsy” first ’cause I know that album has always been an important album of his career. After listening to it, I can see why. Al Di Meola is a genius. I definitely wanna get more of his albums. He has over 20 studio albums ’cause he’s been around for a long time. His music is relaxing and enjoyable to listen to.

I’ve read too many interviews on him through Guitar World magazine so I finally decided to start getting into his music. He’s got a lot of albums so it’ll be tough to collect ’em all so I’ll just pick his best records. I can see why so many famous guitarists look after him, though. He inspires a lot of metal and shred guitarists mostly.

Glad to finally start getting into his music. Someday, I’ll play guitar just as good as him.

When will people stop putting jam bands to shame? It’s so wrong…

Back in the 60’s and 70’s, jam bands used to be welcomed in the music industry but in today’s industry, jam bands are not treated so kindly by the fans anymore. These days everybody have to say negative things about jam bands like Phish, DMB, moe and others. Why do people today are putting jam bands in a negative light? Probably it’s because of the hippie movement and the drug culture. That’s the only reason why I think people are pretty critical of jam bands. People also think that the music is boring and they think they play songs way too long. Their musical talent is usually criticized too.

No matter what people think of jam bands… the jam band genre is still alive and well. There are tons of national, independent and local jam bands all over the USA. Jam band shows whether national or local still get huge crowds. Jam band music will never die.

You see, I love jam bands. I’ve always had and always will. That’s why I love music like Led Zep, Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Phish, The Grateful Dead, etc.

I don’t drink and don’t do any illegal hard drugs but I don’t have to be into that stuff to enjoy the music ’cause that’s what it’s all about. It’s about the music with these jam bands. Musicians in jam bands are incredibly talented and intelligent people. They deserve more respect in the industry for sure.

Jams bands play one song on stage for a long time ’cause it’s called “jamming”. That’s what they all do. “Improvise” and jam out. They can’t help it when they play a song for 30 minutes or more. On top of that, jam band shows are so much fun to go to. That kind of music can be such a blast to dance to and cheer them on all night. This is why jam band music is still alive and well. People enjoy dancing to them. Jam bands are still making records and selling out shows… that is one fact that cannot be denied.

I love listening to jam bands ’cause I love the improvisational part of it and on top of that, I just love good guitar playing. Jam bands is where you’ll find all the great guitar playing.

Whenever I form my own band sometime (when I’m ready that is)… this is the kind of music I’m planning on playing. I’m still gonna play rock n’ roll with a little bit of overdrive/distortion but it will be jam rock music. Kind of like Hendrix, Cream and SRV. This is why I’m trying to improve my lead guitar skills and improvisational techniques to prepare myself. I want to learn how to jam and improvise. Become an improvisational master. To do that, I must be good with ear training and music theory — I’m really getting the hang of both and getting better with both. Yes, ear training and music theory both go together. What’s the point of playing in a band when you’re not good at either one? When I get a band, I’m probably gonna play music similar to what Led Zeppelin and the Allman Bros. did… go on long jams and freak out. That’s the kind of musician I aim to be and that has always been my goal ever since I picked up the guitar years ago.

Nothing wrong with psychedelic jam band music. I personally love that stuff. Like this genre or not, jam bands accomplish a lot in the music business. They did more than any other band or pop artist in this fake industry. Plus, jam bands play music “real”. They don’t fake anything.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela is gonna be my new obsession, I think…

I’ve wanted to get into Rodrigo Y Gabriela for a long time so I decided to get two of their albums from Itunes. I bought their new album, “9 Dead Alive” and their 2006 self-titled release. I listened to both albums last night and was pretty much blown away with both records. Rodrigo Y Gabriela are two Mexican acoustic guitarists that play instrumental music. What genre do they play? It’s hard to tell. There’s all kinds of music going on. There’s a mix of flamenco, jazz, classical but they are MOSTLY rock and metal influenced, though. I’ve read that this duo was formed ’cause they were big fans of Metallica. Metallica inspired them to get together.

They have a total of 5 studio albums and I’ll buy their other 3 albums sometime in the future.

I know Rodrigo Y Gabriela have been around for a long time… I’ve been reading a lot about them through Guitar World magazine and seen a lot of their performances in youtube over the years so I finally decided to start getting their studio albums.

I’m really liking these two and becoming a huge fan.

Their newest album, “9 Dead Alive” is pretty amazing stuff. The album is pretty tight. They really know how playing acoustic guitar is done. They play with feeling and with heart which a lot of guitarists are missing these days. They also fuckin’ shred on the instrument!

I love listening to instrumental guitar music. Have been listening to that stuff for years. I think I’m gonna want to start making instrumental guitar music myself sometime. That’s part of why I wanted to get into finger picking and all that stuff. That’s why I want to listen to more jazz and classical for inspiration.

I’m never giving up the singing but someday, I will make an instrumental guitar demo. It’s always been my dream.

Check out Rodrigo Y Gabriela. These two are the future of acoustic guitar. They will change the acoustic guitar industry. Youtube Rodrigo Y Gabriela if you wanna check ’em out.

Metallica to headline this year’s Glastonbury…

Metallica have played every continent around the world (that includes Antarctica) and they have played all major music festivals but the only major festival they haven’t played yet was the legendary Glastonbury Festival. Metallica is officially booked to headline the Pyramid stage.

I love Metallica and all but I wish this band would switch up their set list. Don’t they ever get tired of playing the same greatest hits at every gig? That’s all their shows seem like. Their shows seems like a greatest hits album… all of the time. “Enter Sandman”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Master of Puppets” etc. The same songs at pretty much every gig. The band have plenty of obscure songs they hardly ever play live and I wish they would start playing that stuff too.

I’m sure they’ll still put on a killer set at Glastonbury, though. Metallica never stops touring. They tour all year-round non-stop pretty much. I don’t see them stopping any time soon. Motley Crue may have given it up but Metallica will go on even longer.  Metallica will keep playing until they can’t.

Finally, we don’t get a rap artist headlining a festival for once!

Sharon Van Etten’s new song, “Taking Chances”…

I’m really digging Sharon Van Etten’s new song, “Taking Chances”. Can’t stop listening to it. Love the opening bass intro and Sharon’s voice is just haunting — gives me goosebumps. I’m not into that many indie label artists that much but I fuckin’ LOVE Sharon. I think her music is amazing stuff. To hell with Phantogram, Sharon is what it’s all about! She’s the real artist who matters!

Sharon’s got a new album coming out May 27th which I will probably get. Two of my favorite artists has new albums coming out that day. Sharon and Neil Young. Look like I’ll be getting both of those. I’ll buy ’em from Itunes probably.

Enjoy the song.

Greg Allman wants his biopic film, “Midnight Rider” to not go forward…

Everybody knows about the Greg Allman biopic that was supposedly to be in the works titled, “Midnight Rider” but Sarah Jones who was one of the film crew (pictured above) was killed by getting hit by a train while filming. She was just young, 27. William Hurt who was supposed to play Greg in the film pulled out ’cause he did it out of respect for Sarah. Now Greg Allman himself wrote a small letter to the director of the movie urging him NOT to go forward with the movie. Greg didn’t explain why he wanted him to stop making the movie but he’s probably doing it out of respect for Sarah.

Maybe it’s a good idea for the film to not go forward??? Out of respect for Sarah’s family and friends. Shame what happened and it’s tragic for sure. RIP to Sarah.

Is Liam Gallager teasing Oasis reunion???

Hmmmm… look like Liam and Noel Gallagher buried the hatchet and getting together for an Oasis reunion. Oasis haven’t put out a new album since 2008’s “Dig Out Your Soul”. The band broke up after a heated confrontation between the Oasis brothers. They never really got along over the years. They’ve always hated each other. Look like they’re on good terms with each other now?

I hope they’re coming out with a new album. I’ve always been a huge fan of Oasis. I own some of their albums and covered a few of their songs over the years. Oasis is fucking great and they’re probably coming back.

While the band has been on a hiatus, Noel started his solo career and Liam went on with a different band called, Beady Eye.

If they’re getting back together, who knows how long this reunion will last though. Once they get together again, they could be hating on each other pretty quickly so I’m hoping they’re getting along now.
