Report: The plot to the new “Muppets” movie is out and it’s disappointing…

The plot to the new “Muppets” movie is out, and I don’t really like it at all. I like the Muppets and I want them to have a good movie. After reading the plot, I’m already worried about this film, that we might get another shitty Muppet movie.

The plot is, the original Muppets: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Animal, Gonzo, etc. have all retired to move on to new careers. Three new Muppets are introduced in the film and they go help find the original Muppets to reunite the gang. The movie will be taken place in Los Angeles. Probably around the Hollywood area, so expect a lot of celebrity cameos.

Read more on the story, here.

The only great Muppet movies were, “The Great Muppet Caper” and “The Muppets Take Manhatten”. They were excellent films, but the other ones were pretty crappy. I really hope this one will be good, but I don’t know. I’ll wait to see a trailer first, and then I’ll make my decision if I want to see it in theater or not.

Report: New “Muppet” movie to hit theaters next year in 2011 on Christmas Day…

Disney studios has greenlighted the new “Muppet” movie to hit theaters Dec. 25th of 2011. Even if the plot/synopsis has not yet been revealed, lets just hope it’s NOT another Christmas Muppets movie. We already had two of those. One of them was the Muppets remake of “A Christmas Carol” and the other was “Letters from Santa” the TV movie. Do we really need a third Muppets Christmas? Let’s hope it ain’t another Christmas film. I’m a huge fan of the Muppets by the way, always have been.

Report: The Spierig brothers directing “The Dark Crystal” sequel…

Yes, you heard that right, peeps. There is officially a “Dark Crystal” sequel coming soon to the big screen. The Jim Henson company is teaming up with Omnilab Media to bring the sequel from the 1982 fantasy epic, created by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, also the creators of “The Muppet Show”.

The story to the sequel is set centuries later, the world has fallen into darkness once again. A mysterious girl made of fire teams with a Gelfing outcast, came to steal a shard of the legendary Crystal (the crystal seen from the first movie) to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet. Peter and Michael Spierig will direct.

Another thing to think about, will Frank Oz be involved with the film somehow? Maybe, I don’t know. The sequel sounds interesting, although I don’t agree with the sequel going on without Jim Henson himself. I’ll still go see it if the trailer is good enough.

Edit to add: Another thing to think about everyone is that since this isn’t the 80’s anymore, since the directors from the movie “Daybreakers” (the vampire movie that stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe) are helming the “Dark Crystal” sequel, expect them to use plenty of CGI and fancy visual effects. Will they still use puppets in the movie? Possibly…but don’t expect the puppets they used to look like back in the 80’s. They will probably make brand new puppets to make the creatures more realistic. The human characters would probably be puppets just like the original film, but all the monsters and stuff will be different. It will probably be much darker than the original. Will they bring the character Aughra back? What about Jen and Kira? I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of the characters back from the first film for the sequel as well. I hope they don’t mess this up and make it a really good one.

TV Review: “A Muppets Christmas – Letters to Santa”

Just finished watching the Muppets special on NBC titled “A Muppets Christmas – Letters to Santa”, here is my review.

Plot/synopsisThe Muppet characters wait in line at the Post Office in New York City waiting to mail their Christmas cards, later they realized they weren’t Christmas cards. They were actually letters to Santa Claus written by children. When the Muppets return back to their apartment building, Claire, a little girl who is friends with Gonzo, felt dissapointed when Gonzo reveals that the Muppets won’t be around for Christmas, they will be on vacation.

The Muppets then begin to realize that Christmas for children is more important than a vacation so to get into the Christmas spirit, they decide to help these children by delivering these letters to Santa Claus. They try everything they could to deliver these letters, then they have no choice but to travel to the North Pole and see Santa themselves.

It was actually very good and entertaining. I liked it a lot! They kept it old school Muppets the way it’s supposed to be!!! They brought every single Muppet character back in one entire hour! Yep, every single Muppet character besides the well known ones, they also brought back Sam the Eagle, The Swedish Chef, Beaker, Sweetums, Lew Zealand, Dr. Teeth, Janice, Zoot, Statler and Waldorf, etc. Yep, the whole gang is there.

Celebrity cameo appearances by Mayor Bloomberg, Whoopi Goldberg, Uma Thurman, etc.

The story was great, the songs were fun. It was a good show and a job well done!!! Bring on the new Muppet film for the big screen!!!

Score for “Letters to Santa” = *** (3 stars as in good)

Report: Brian Henson to helm “Happytime Murders”, an adult oriented puppeteer film…

Brian Henson who is the son of the late and great famous puppeteer, Jim Henson, will helm a new puppeteer film titled “The Happytime Murders”. Jim Henson is a legendary puppeteer responsible for bringing us the Muppets, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, etc. Jim Henson was also the director of great films such as “The Dark Crystal” and “Labrynth”.

Brian Henson is a puppeteer and film maker just like his father. After Jim Henson passed away, Brian continued to make more Muppet films in his father’s honor to keep his legacy alive with new Muppet films such as “The Muppet Christmas Carol” and “The Muppet Treasure Island”.

The Jim Henson Co. greenlighted to make “Happytime Murders” with Brian directing the pic. The film is supposed to be dark and comedic but it is a film intended for adults, so expact a hard “R” rating. The plot idea for the “Happytime Murders” will be about a world of humans and puppets exist in the real world, the puppets are viewed as second class citizens. A group of puppets has been casted to make an 80’s children’s TV show called “The Happytime Gang”, each cast members gets murdered one by one while making the TV show. A drunken LAPD private eye investigates the murdered puppets.

This will be the first puppet film with a dark tone since 1982’s “The Dark Crystal” which as you saw in my top 50 films list is one of my favorite films of all times, I have the DVD to “The Dark Crystal” in my collection.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

Sounds great!

This film will indeed create a lot of controversy in the news. I can see children’s parents trying to boycott this film ’cause they think this will give Jim Henson a bad name with puppets getting murdered.

With the way Hollywood running these days, I wish the Henson Co. good luck on releasing this film. Just ask Warner Bros. for the “Watchmen”, they know what it’s like.
