Film Review: Righteous Kill

Starring: Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Brian Dennehy, 50 Cent, Carla Gugino, John Leguizamo

Directed by: Jon Avnet

I just got back home from seeing the movie “Righteous Kill” the new film that stars Robert Deniro and Al Pacino, another re-teaming of the two biggest stars in Hollywood. The last film they starred in together was “Heat” released back in 1995.

In this film, Robert Deniro plays Turk, and Al Pacino plays Rooster, both New York City Detectives and police officers. Brian Dennehy plays Lt. Hingis, the boss of the two detectives. The film starts off with a murder of a young girl that just got raped and murdered. The two detectives, Turk and Rooster believe they solved the case years ago.

Whenever someone committs a crime, Turk and Rooster hunt the criminals down, the court lets them all walk which the serial killer murders all the criminals that got away with their crime. Deniro’s character Turk has been having an affair with Karen Corelli played by the sexy Carla Cugino, they weren’t lovers, they were just friends and intimate with each other. Karen is a sexual woman who sleeps around with other police officers as well.

The NYPD department later began to realize that the serial killer could possibly be a police officer because it was the cop’s way of getting rid of criminals for good. All the blame was pointed at Turk (Deniro), they tried to make Deniro look like a killer throughout the entire film but they finally realize it wasn’t him and there is a different serial killer cop suspect on the loose. Each time the criminals were murdered by the cop serial killer, he would leave a poem trying to frame Deniro’s character for the crimes.

Who is the serial killer in the film? You’ll have to see it yourself to find out.

As far as my thoughts on the movie goes, the film wasn’t as bad as the internet made it out to be. I actually liked it. It was a decent thriller. Although it was pretty easy to figure out who the real killer in the film was, I knew who it was all along. But hey, this is Robby D and Al Pacino playing in a film together again, any film with them in it is good. Their acting was great as usual. I just wish the script could have been written a little better.

It was also great to see Brian Dennehy play in a film again, he’s looking real good too. After seeing this movie, goes to show that Dennehy still has what it takes to play Will Teasle in a Rambo film again ’cause Dennehy’s character in “Righteous Kill” immediately reminded me of Will Teasle. So Sly, if you decide to do another Rambo, please bring Will Teasle back!

They had a great actress choice to play alongside Robby D and Al, Carla Gugino is a smoking hot woman.

Other than that, “Righteous Kill” wasn’t that bad of a film, I just like it for Robby D and Al, the story was interesting although it could have been written better as I said before.

Score for “Righteous Kill” = *** (3 stars as in “good”)

Report: Internet Movie Database launches free streaming of full length movies and TV shows…

The popular internet of the world of entertainment “IMDB” which is a site owned by amazon.com, just launched a free service where you view full length movies, TV shows, and much more.

Go to IMDB and check it out:

http://www.imdb.com/

Hell yeah, that’s pretty sweet!

IMDB is one of my favorite websites, I’m always on there looking for information about movies and stuff. The streaming of full length movies and TV shows is a great idea.

They have some pretty sweet movies in the new and classic section of movies.

Did you miss the season premiere of Saturday Night Live and didn’t see the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin skit? Not too worries, they have it right on there.

Enjoy.

Report: Diesel, Cohen to return to XXX 3…

Vin Diesel must of had a change of heart in sequels lately. In the past he used to turn sequels down like crazy. Now that he’s done “Fast and the Furious 4”, Diesel is now confirmed to star in “XXX 3” to reprise his role as Xander Cage with Rob Cohen helming again.

In “XXX 2: State of the Union” Ice Cube starred the leading role with a different director. Does this mean that Ice Cube will be starring alongside Vin Diesel if Cube’s character is written in the third one? There is no word if Samuel L. Jackson will star in “XXX 3” or not as he already starred in the first two. Yes, I’m sure Samuel L. Jackson will star in the third one too, they just haven’t asked him yet.

Variety Reports:

Good news. I liked the first XXX movie. Action packed. Good to see Vinny doing sequels again.

Report: Activision denied Brett Ratner’s permission to make “Guitar Hero” live action film…

Since film maker Brett Ratner has expressed his interest in making a live action “Guitar Hero” film adapted from the hit video game, Ratner himself asked Activision if he could make a film on it. Well, Activision says NO!

Although Activision didn’t give Ratner permission to make the film, he isn’t giving up and he’s going to continue to pursue it.

More on it here:

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/09/brett-ratner-gu.html?xid=rss-hollywoodinsider-20080910-Brett%20Ratner%20says%20’Guitar%20Hero’%20movie%20isn’t%20happening…yet

Way to go Activision! Yeah!

I don’t want Hollywood making a Guitar Hero movie at all no matter who’s directing it. It would kill the sales of the video games and hurt the music industry themselves.

Activision did a smart move here!

There is a behind the scenes video of Terry Gilliam’s next film “Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus”. The film also stars Jude Law, Johnny Depp, Collin Farrell, Verne Troyer, Tom Waits, etc. Check it out in the link below to see the behind the scenes featurette. The film looks way cool and unique. Looking forward to seeing it when it comes out.

This is the last Heath Ledger film, not “The Dark Knight”. This was the film that Heath was still working on before his death. Remember that now.

Terry Gilliam is a great film maker.
