Film Review: The King’s Speech

Starring: Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush

Directed by: Tom Hooper

So today I decided to go see the  movie, “The King’s Speech”. Here is my review.

Plot/Synopsis: The story revolves around Prince Albert, Duke of York (Colin Firth) who is about ready to become King George the VIth. Prince Albert must prepare for a major speech when he becomes King George VI, must do a radio speech for a large audience. However, Prince Albert has a very bad speaking problem, aka, speech impediment. Prince Albert’s wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) tried to get her husband to work with a speech therapist named, Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Prince Albert must improve his speaking skills to prepare for the day he becomes, King George VI.

I saw this film because of the Oscar buzz, obviously. I wanted to see why it got the  most nominations. I can see why, because the film is really good. The movie was actually entertaining and fun. It has a very huge chance of sweeping up all the awards at the Oscars. Sorry to say. Of course, I was most impressed with Colin Firth’s acting. The man was amazing. Probably the best acting I’ve seen in a long time, so I know he will win Best Actor, no matter what happens. The script was really good, the drama actually kept me at the edge of my seat, and it kept me guessing. It’s a thinking movie for sure. To make the movie not boring, they added a lot of humor through it.

I know this a short review, but as long you love a film so much, there’s not much to say about it, since it is perfect and nothing wrong with it. The film was fantastic, and worth seeing. Definitely go check this one out.

Score for “The King’s Speech” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Game Review: Call of Duty “Black Ops”

So I’ve been playing, “Call of Duty: Black Ops” a lot lately. I’ve became addicted to it, quickly. Not sure when I’ll stop playing this game, lol. I’ve played the “campaign” storyline game. I was really impressed with it. The new “Call of Duty: Black Ops” game is getting a lot of negative reviews, because they claim the storyline is boring, the haters claim that the action and graphics is pretty much the same, but I disagree. I find nothing wrong with the game at all. I personally find it the perfect Call of Duty game all around.

I would like to take the time to defend the game, on why I think it’s the best Call of Duty game ever made. The story takes place during the Cold War in the 1960’s. The story focuses on the CIA’s Special Activities Division, Studies and Observation Groups. These soldiers go on missions around the globe, such as the Ural Mountains in Russia, Cuba, Loas, and Vietnam. It mainly focuses on the story about a Russian experiment, called Nova. 6, which is a dangerous plague set out to kill people.

In the game, it opens with SAD/SOG Alex Mason, who is a soldier you play. He is found strapped in a chair, in a room with television screens all over. He is in a room, not knowing where he is and he doesn’t know who his captors are. The missions in the game are flashbacks from the past, leading up to explain how Private Mason got held captive in that room. In that room, there are numbers flying everywhere. Giving you clues on something of what’s ahead. In the story, President John F. Kennedy was brought into this. Yes, JFK is an actual character in the game. And they showed actual and real Kennedy footage in the game too. Kennedy wants to assasinate a villain name Dragovich, so a soldier name Dreznov brainwashes Mason to go and hunt down Dragovich, before Dragovich assasinates President Kennedy.

You see, I really liked the storyline. While the storyline might be a little silly for some, the way I look at it. It’s a very serious storyline, that is very political focusing on President JFK. I see this game as a homage and tribute to JFK. When the games over, you can actually play President Kennedy and kill zombies in the White House, which is crazy but fun. While the Call of Duty: Black Ops, “campaign” storyline is mostly fiction, of course, there is also some real life history thrown into it. The storyline kept you hooked to the end.

I als played the Zombie online play, which you team up with three other people online to kill zombies in other maps. The zombie game is a blast. You start off with fighting a few zombies at a time, and a whole bunch more will come out after a few rounds. It’s actually pretty challenging to play.

As for the regular multiplayer, it is pretty much the same as the other COD games except the maps are different, the weapons and there are a lot more camping spots. “Camping” means, hiding out and wait until another player walks by so you can get ready to kill. I know everyone hates camping in first person shooter games for online play, but they do make hiding spots for a reason, right? I find nothing wrong with the multiplayer. Server works for me fine. I never got kicked out and the connection was perfectly fine.

Therefor, I’m pretty happy with “COD: Black Ops”, it’s an excellent game. I don’t know what the haters and critics are talking about. I’m going to play this for a while longer, then I’ll move on to the new, “Gran Turismo 5”.

Report: Sometimes dead is better…yet another Stephen King movie on the way to the big screen, “Pet Sematary” re-boot greenlighted…

First, “The Dark Tower” with Ron Howard, next here comes, “The Stand”, and now here comes the “Pet Sematary” re-boot!!! There is quite a lot of Stephen King movies on the way to the big screen! The “Pet Sematary” re-boot will be written by “1408” writer, Matthew Greenberg.

The story revolves around the Creed family moving to a new home. When just settling in their new home, their son is killed. An old cemetery was found, it was said that when you bury the dead in that cemetery, they come back to life. Louis Creed, the main character, takes his dead son to the cemetery to bring him back to life. When his son did come back to life, he ended up being evil. The original film starred, Dale Midkiff, Fred Gwyne and Denise Crosby.

Read more on the story, here.

Hmmmm, sounds like a perfect project for Rob Zombie! Imagine what Rob Zombie could do to it? He could make a gruesome and disturbing version.

So you ask, what’s with all the Stephen King movies being greenlighted lately? Well for one, he’s the most famous author in the world. He’s an icon. Hollywood wants to do films on everyone one of his books as they possibly can. Plus, Stephen writes his books as if they were a movie. I’m also sure that Stephen had a hand in getting these movies greenlighted. He would want Hollywood to do movies on all of his books. Stephen wrote screenplays for most of his own movies as well.

I’m such a huge Stephen King fan. I’m obsessed with his writing. I’ve been reading his books ever since I was a kid in high school. Collected all of them. I still buy his new books every time he comes out with a new one. I just got his new short story collection, “Full Dark, No Stars” which I will read soon. I’m reading the Harry Potter series right now. Stephen King is my favorite author, die hard fan.

Body hair shaving, actually considering about doing it…

Some people may wonder if I ever consider body hair shaving, for more muscle definition. I think about that all the time. I used to disagree with body hair shaving, but I’m starting to agree with it now. All these progress pics I put out, maybe people will give feedback on them more if I shave body hair. I don’t have hair on my chest and belly, but my legs and arm pits are pretty hairy though. Before you do body hair shaving, you must read about it first before you do, so you can do it safely and do it without getting razor burns or itches.

There is nothing gay about leg shaving for men, it’s pretty normal with bodybuilders and athletes. It’s okay. I’ll need to get an electric clipper, I’ve read. They are safer to use than regular razor blades. When I shave my legs, maybe people will be able to look at my progress pics easier without being creeped out, lol. I’ll do it sometime when I’m ready.

I feel my legs are getting bigger though. I feel I got pretty decent size quads, the calves are okay too. I love doing lower body workouts. It’s my favorite part of fitness, actually. After you do your leg workout,  your legs will feel weird walking around for the next couple of days, but that’s good. You want your legs to feel like that, ’cause that means the muscles are repairing.

If I want to get more responses to my progress pics, shaving body hair might help do the trick.

BREAKING NEWS: The White Stripes officially split!!!!!

Out of no where, the White Stripes announced the shocking news today, that Jack and Meg White will both end, the White Stripes band, effective immediately!

Read their statement, here.

Wow! I’m even shocked and kind of sad for this news! This was one talented duo! I loved them. I never bought their albums, but I saw them on TV many times and heard their singles on the radio a lot. They only released 6 albums, so they had a pretty short career.

I’m gonna have to get their 6 albums now, I’ll download them from Itunes soon.

I’m sure Jack will continue with his two other side projects, the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, but Jack will probably form a new project on his own. Maybe do a solo career?

BREAKING NEWS: Rod Stewart to sing for Jeff Beck again!

Rod Stewart revealed, that he is getting very close to a musical reunion with the Jeff Beck Group. He explains that the new Jeff Beck Group will hit the studio in Feb. to record new material and after that, they will send the demos to Rod. If all goes well, Rod will be the lead singer for the Jeff Beck Group again.

More on it, here.

Remember, Rod Stewart was one of the founding members of the Jeff Beck group, pictured above. Yep, he was the first lead singer when the band first started in the late 60’s. This was Rod at his best before his “Maggie May” crap. I’m sure this project will happen. Can’t wait!

Report: Metallica to finally hit the studio for “Death Magnetic” follow up, this Spring!!!

Usually, whenever Metallica put out a new album and go on a big world tour, after that, they take a long break from music before another new album. Not this time. Lars Ulrich revealed that after they finish this tour, they will head back into the studio for new material this Spring. Possibly in March or April. This will be the band’s follow up album from “Death Magnetic”.

Read more on the story, here.

Good news. I’m glad Metallica is not making us wait for another new album after this tour! Hopefully they stick with the “Death Magnetic” speed metal stuff and not change their sound again like they do every album. They do a new style of music every album they do.

I know Metallica have a lot of haters, but I love them.

Report: Jack Lalanne laid to rest, Schwarzenegger eulogizes the fitness pioneer…

Jack Lalanne, the Godfather of Fitness, was laid to rest today. Arnold Schwarzenegger was there to attend the funeral service, of course, Arnie’s wife, Maria Shriver was there too. Another fitness icon attended the funeral, and that is Richard Simmons.

Read what they have to say about, Jack, here.

Yep, Jack started it all. He really did. If it wasn’t for him, there would be no YMCA, Planet Fitness or Gold’s Gym. All these fitness guys Jack Lalanne, Schwarzenegger, Stallone, etc. They’ve inspired me to never give up my dream. I’m never giving up on this fitness thing, guys. I’ll be doing this for life too, like Jack.

You just don’t know how badly I want the fit and muscular body. Yeah, I want it very badly. If you want something badly, stay committed to it and you can achieve your dream. Don’t listen to anybody that gets in your way, and keep going. This is about you. Not about other people. If other people laugh at you and treat your bodybuilding dreams in a negative direction, to hell with them. Again, it’s about you.

Anybody can get into fitness. Either lose weight or get ripped. It doesn’t matter what age, what you look like, who you are, etc. This is for everybody. I’m not trying to be a fitness guru, I kind of want to help other local people get fit. So I try my best to give other people advice and things like that. I’m actually thinking about becoming a personal trainer in the future. Not at this point ’cause I need more experience and more knowledge, but becoming a personal trainer is something I would like to do when I get older. I could make good money doing that, training other people locally.

Report: Stephen King’s “The Stand” big screen version on the way…

Warner Bros. and CBS, have teamed up to bring Stephen King’s, “The Stand” to the big screen. “The Stand” was first brought to us in 1994 with a mini series that starred Gary Sinise, as Stu Redman, the leading character. The studios will sit down with directors and writers, to find the right take for the big screen version. Mosaic and Roy Lee are producing. Stephen King, the man himself, will be involved in some way, nobody knows yet.

“The Stand” is an apocalyptic story that tells of a plague virus which killed most Americans, leaving only some survivors. The survivors try their best to survive while they fight off the evil antagonist, Randall Flagg. Randall Flagg, was responsible for sending out that plague.

The Hollywood reporter, reports.

Honestly, I always thought, “The Stand” needed a big screen movie instead of small screen. Glad they finally considered it! The TV mini series sucked because they left so much out of the book. I think “The Stand” theater version should be a three part trilogy, and each film being three hours long, so they can fit everything in.

I don’t want Frank Darabont directing this. “The Green Mile” was a great movie, but “The Mist” sucked so bad. Darabont would ruin this one too. I’d say give this one to a talented director, like Christopher Nolan, Darren Aronofsky or Ridley Scott. “The Stand” big screen version should also be R rated, not leaving out the swearing, the violence, and gore.

Who should play Stu Redman? Should Gary get it again? Nah. I’d say give it to Christian Bale or Ethan Hawke.
