Report: Superman goes political and hates America, “I’m renouncing my U.S. citizenship”…

“Superman” is in the news again but this time in comic book form. Instead of celebrating the #900 issue of “Superman – Action Comics”, DC has decided to pull off some controversy with Superman by having him renounce his US citizenship. He hates America now, he’s done. Superman will renounce his citizenship at the United Nations but he will continue to fight crime globally but not in the United States.

Read more on the story, here.

Interesting! I love this idea! Most Superman stories were strictly taken place in Metropolis and other areas in the United States. Look like the rest of the “Superman – Action” comics will focus on Superman saving people around the world. Superman will save people in the U.K., Russia, Africa, China, Japan, Mexico, etc.??? He’s going to completely ignore the United States no matter how much danger our country is in?

I’m going to have to buy this issue. There is a comic book store at my local mall. I’ll have to see if they have it. If not, I’ll order it online.

Book Review: Sammy Hagar “Red”

Sammy Hagar, is such a hero to me. He’s an inspiration. Why?

For one, I’ve admired him ever since I was a child. When I was a young child, I couldn’t stop singing, “I Can’t Drive 55”, after I saw that cool video for the first time, back in the day when MTV used to be good. I think that was the first time I first got into music. It was also the first time I got into “rock” music over all. Then I would just listen to Sammy’s “V.O.A.” album from my family’s vinyl collection back in the day and I would play that album to death. I could play that album over and over again, would never get tired of it. “I Can’t Drive 55” is such a badass rock song. It’s one of the best radio rock hits from the 80’s at that time. It also had a very cool music video. Sammy’s “V.O.A.” album also had one of the best album covers I’ve ever seen. Sammy dressed in Red coming down on a parachute in front of the Capital building in Washington D.C., with guitar in right hand. His left hand clenched into a fist.

In Sammy Hagar’s autobiography book, “Red”, is about the life of the legendary, Red Rocker. It starts from his childhood to where he is now. It’s not a very long book. A little over 200 pages, but I read it in a very quick 3 days. Everything about Sammy Hagar’s life & career is all there. How he got into music, his marriages, alcoholism, sex, drugs, rock n’ roll, playing in different bands, etc. A lot of people accused Sammy of being “whacky” and “crazy”, but honestly, I don’t think so. Sammy is actually one of the most honest and intelligent musicians out there. He’s more professional, and real than other famous rock stars. He has personality. He’s been playing arena rock shows since the 1970’s and still playing arenas to this day. He started with his first band, the Montrose, then he went on to a successful solo career in the 80’s. He then joined Van Halen in the 90’s.

He also talked a lot about family life, being a parent. He talked about being a business man. He used to own a chain of bike shops because he liked to ride mountain bikes. After he gave up that, he then opened his own club called the “Cabo Wabo Cantina” which is still in business today.

What I find most interesting about the book is all the stuff that he was open about Eddie Van Halen. Most people mistakenly look at Eddie Van Halen as a successful rich guy who is nice and friendly, but in reality, Eddie V.H., is a pathetic loser and an asshole. All those stories Sammy told about Eddie were interesting, some of it was even funny too. Of course, Sammy talked about how he formed the supergroup, Chickenfoot. I really didn’t care for Chickenfoot’s music at first but after listening to their stuff again, makes me want to get their album.

Sammy is a gifted & talented man who deserves all the respect. All that “abducted by alien” stuff wasn’t in the book too much. He talked about aliens & UFO’s a little bit, but all that stuff is just his humor. I think he’s only joking around about that stuff.

This is a very insightful read. To those who say Sammy is crazy, do yourself a favor and read this book. After you read it, you would think that he is not crazy and he’s actually a normal dude. He’s interesting. I was surprised that he is not an ego-maniac, and he seems very cool, down to earth after reading this book. This is one of the best autobiographies by a musician that I’ve ever read. This book is a must read for all music lovers out there. Check it out.

Book Review: “Big in China” by Alan Paul

So I finally bought the book, “Big In China” by Alan Paul, who is a journalist & musician. Alan Paul writes for the Wall Street Journal, Slam magazine (yes, the basketball magazine), and Guitar World. He is also a guitar player and jazz/blues musician.

This book is about Alan Paul who moves to Beijing, China because his wife was offered a job there and she accepted. While living in Beijing, China, they explore the country, trying to get used to a new place. Along the way, Alan ends up forming a blues band there with Chinese musicians called, Woodie Alan. The band Woodie Alan, became big & famous there. The band line up includes, Alan Paul, Woodie Wu, Dave Loevinger, Zhang Yong and Lu Wei. The story tells how the band was formed and how they get their popularity in China. Their anthem song that made them big is a song called, “Beijing Blues” which is a song that I absolutely love.

I read a lot of books, and I would have to say that, “Big In China” was the most inspiring book I’ve ever read. It’s really amazing, and well written. The story was incredible and I couldn’t put it down. There is music everywhere in this world and I never realized music was this big in China until I’ve read this book. I was never really into world music that much, but hearing the music of Woodie Alan, really moved me. It makes me want to get their CD soon.

I really hope Woodie Alan will become big in the “USA” too. They deserve recognition in the United States, and I think that band will get recognition here once Ivan Reitman makes that movie about them.

Back to the book, it’s not just about music. Alan teaches you about Chinese culture and what it’s like living over there. It certainly is different there. He explains how it’s different living in China than in the United States. Once you live in China, it’ll make you want to like living there more than the U.S.

To learn more about Alan Paul and Woodie Alan, check the band’s website, here.

Get the book, and be inspired. This is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. I hope he keeps writing these stories and there will be sequels up ahead?

Book Review: “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”

So I just finished reading the book, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” by Seth Grahame-Smith.

This book is actually a biography of Abraham Lincoln, except there’s a little mix of vampire fiction thrown in. While this is a fictional book, there’s still a lot of Non-fiction real life history into it, too. The book begins from Abe’s childhood all the way up to his assassination. The book surprisingly has everything about Abe’s history. It’s all there. His marriages to Anne Rutledge and Mary Todd is there. Everything about his political career. The Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, the 1864 re-election, the assassination (which he was murdered by John Wilkes Booth), etc. Yep, the book pretty much covers Lincoln’s entire history.

As for the fictional material, the book focus’s on Abe being a vampire hunter. Abe has a huge hatred for vampires and vows to kill every one of them. The stories are told in journal form by a vampire named, Henry Sturges, who is the only “fictional” character in the book. In the book, it wants to make Abe look like a tough guy hunting down vampires with an axe. The axe was Abe’s only weapon to kill vampires as you see on the cover of the book above. The book is of course, violent and a little gory.

I thought the author of this novel did an amazing job mixing in fiction and non-fiction all in the same book. That had to be very difficult to do with a lot of research. The book is pretty twisted and sick. It’s also silly and goofy. It made you feel like watching the History Channel and a Evil Dead movie at the same time.

Do you know what’s even more funny, that since I finished this book today, I just realized that today is Abe’s Anniversary death. This is one of the best horror novels, I’ve read in a long time. So I shall be looking forward to “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” film when it hits theaters. This is an entertaining read. If you like reading history, politics, and horror, this is the book for you.

Book Review: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

So I finally got around to reading the book, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson. It’s the Millennium Trilogy series that everyone is talking about. The Lisbeth Salander character, her popularity is growing on the world wide web. I wanted to read the book before I see the movie. I know there’s a 2009 Swedish film that stars Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, and there will be an American version of the film coming soon with David Fincher attached to direct, and Rooney Mara set to star as Lisbeth.

The books tells a story about a woman named, Harriet Vanger, who disappeared 40 years ago, and her Uncle Henrik Vanger, wants the truth of what happened out there. Henrik hires Mikael Blomkvist to help find this missing woman. Mikael later teams up with Lisbeth Salander, who is an expert researcher and computer hacker. She is also a punk goddess with a nasty attitude.

This book was hard to put down. I like to read a lot of books, yes, but I don’t spend a lot of time reading other books. For this one though, I kept coming back to it, reading this book, at least a couple of hours a day. This book was that addicting, so I can see why it is a popular series. It was unpredictable and had some twist and turns. Plus, Lisbeth Salander is such a badass character.

Just wait until David Fincher’s version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” hits the theaters. You can betcha, that Lisbeth Salander character will become a mainstream hit easily. The character is already a hit in other countries because of that Swedish movie, but that character will become more well known after that American version hits theaters.

Back to the novel, it was very realistic and detailed. I felt like I was reading a Stephen King novel in some way. The storytelling in this book was very masterful and intense. The story is set in Sweden and not in the USA. The writing style of this book kept you begging some more. The Lisbeth Salander character is the most important part the of the novel. In the book, she’s the type of girl that does what she wants, not giving a rats ass what anybody thinks. I think that’s why she’s a like-able character. That girl is unpredictable, you never know what she’s going to do.

Plus, this is a great serial killer and crime story. I love reading crime fiction and horror stories. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies to do ’cause I need to be inspired. It’s good for the mind, plus it helps with songwriting inspiration.

When David Fincher’s movie hits theaters, I hope he stays true to the novel and not leave anything out. I plan to see the Swedish movie soon ’cause it is in Netflix, maybe I will watch it later this evening.

I wanted to read this book because everyone was talking about it online. It kind of grabbed my attention, so I finally picked up the book from Barnes & Noble. I also picked up the second book, “The Girl Who Played With Fire”, which I plan to read soon. There are other books I’ve been buying recently that I need to catch up on.

Stieg Larrsson was a phenomenal writer, it’s a shame that he’s gone.

Thought: What makes Harry Potter so great…

Some people mistakenly think that the Harry Potter series are made for young adults and children. That’s what I thought too. In the past, I wasn’t into this whole Wizard thing. That’s why I never got into Harry Potter. I suddenly became intrigued with the stories. So I first saw all the movies, and then I read all the books. I now agree that, J.K. Rowling, is a genius writer, and all this publicity she’s getting for the books is well deserved. I think that when I visited the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Universal Studios last Fall is what made me get into it. I visited the Harry Potter theme park and honestly, I thought that place was going to bore me to death. The place didn’t. I found it really amazing and fascinating, so I just had to start getting into Harry Potter to see how J.K. Rowling had her own theme park there.

Why are the Harry Potter series so amazing? I can think of these reasons…

  • The writing – Seriously, J.K. Rowling’s writing is phenomenal. I just couldn’t put the books down. I just wanted more. That is why I was quick on finishing all 7 books. Her writing makes it so you can read it fast. The detail and the insights of the stories is just mind blowing. As you read the books, it makes you feel like watching a movie in your head. Her writing style is just great.
  • The characters – Mrs. Rowling, came up with some of the most unique and creative characters. There are so many characters in all of the books, it’s kind of hard to follow through them all
  • The unpredictability – You just never knew what was going to happen next in these stories. It’ll keep you guessing ’til the very end.
  • There’s something for everyone in the books – These stories are really not just for kids. There is something for everyone, so people of all ages can read these stories. It’s not just for women. The guys can read them too. There is drama, romance, action, horror, fantasy, science fiction, etc. All genres mixed into one. The first book, may start off as a children’s book, yes, but the stories get a lot darker after the first one.

Wizards were only known in Medieval stories (the story of Merlin and King Arthur as an example), and J.K. Rowling wanted to take Wizard stories in a different direction. She wanted to make Wizards have their own little world, and she was successful at that.

Yeah I know, I’m real late getting into Harry Potter. I never got into Harry Potter when the books started coming out and I never saw the movies when they first came out either. I just got into Harry Potter. The story of Harry trying to get revenge on Voldermort for his murdered parents is really powerful stuff. Plus, Voldermort is possibly one of the greatest villains ever created, in my opinion. Voldermort was more evil than Darth Vader, I think.

So if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, I would suggest you to get into it. If you like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or the Terminator franchises, you would like Harry Potter. One warning though, you need to read the books and see the movies in order. If you see, “The Deathly Hollows part 2” in theater, you’ll never know what’s going on, so catch up before the new movie comes out like I did.

Harry Potter is awesome and I’m glad I got into the series. Thanks, J.K. Rowling for her work.

Report: Billy Joel pulls the plug on “The Book of Joel” memoir!!! Bummer!!!

Just a while back, Billy Joel announced on his official website that he had plans in releasing a memoir titled, “The Book of Joel”, which was set to be released in June. Not anymore. Billy scrapped the project, he’s no longer doing it. The reason? Simply because he doesn’t want to go back to the past.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

While it is a bummer, that he changed his mind, it is understandable. He did have a difficult life and him writing about the past, would only come back to haunt him. He doesn’t want that.

If he wanted to write a book, he could have just focused on the music only, leaving his personal life out of it. Oh well, it’s a good idea to keep your life private and not make your life for the whole world to see.

I just hope Billy gets well. I want him to get back into making music, go on tour with Elton John and maybe even release a new studio album. He needs to concentrate on the music.

Report: Alan Paul’s “Big In China” book to be made into a movie, possibly directed by Ivan Reitman???

Most people may have never heard of this man, but Alan Paul, is an American journalist who writes for different music magazines. He mostly writes for, Guitar World, magazine.

Alan Paul is a blues musician, who lived over in Beijing, China for a while. While there, he formed a blues band named, Woodie Alan. The band, Woodie Alan, become famous over in China. Alan Paul, wrote his experiences over there in a memoir, as you see in the pic above. The book is now out in stores everywhere I believe. Ivan Reitman’s “Montecito Pictures”, just acquired the rights to make the book into a major motion picture. The film could possibly be directed by, Ivan Reitman himself.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

This book sounds very interesting to me! I’ll be going to the mall tomorrow, and I’ll probably take a walk over to “Barnes & Noble’, and I’ll look for this book. I’m interested in reading it.

If you don’t know who Alan Paul is, watch the videos below. I think he’ll definitely become more well known once this film hits theaters.

Report: Billy Joel to release memoir, “The Book of Joel” on June 14th…

As a huge Billy Joel fan, I am glad that he wrote his own autobiography. It’s about time Billy! I’ve been waiting for him to do one! Yes, I love Billy’s music. Have been a fan of his for years. His book, “The Book of Joel” will hit bookstores this year, on June 14th. See the official announcement here at Billy’s website.

The reason this is going to be a good read ’cause I want to know more about his musical history. When he was younger, how he got into music and all that stuff. Of course, I’m sure he’s going to write a lot of personal stuff such as alcohol, drugs, depression and suicide that he’s known for. Most importantly, I want to get more insight about his music career. He will talk a lot about Elton John, his longtime touring partner.

He’s a phenomenal musician. I just love his music. He’s very inspirational and powerful. His songs are special. He may not play the guitar, he’s a piano man, obviously, but he’s great at writing rock n’ roll songs on the piano.

I miss Billy in music. I wish he would come back to it. I’m definitely buying this book.

Report: Charlie Sheen is writing memoir, confirms deal with publisher already…

The controversial actor, Charlie Sheen, has said that he’s writing a memoir based on the “Two and a Half Men” fallout with creator, Chuck Lorre. Sheen recently bad mouthed Lorre publicly on the radio with the TMZ, and the rest of the season have been canceled because of his rant. Well, Sheen doesn’t plan on ending this feud anytime soon ’cause he plans on keeping it going with this book he’s writing. The book will be about the behind the scenes, of the sitcom, “Two and a Half Men”, it will lead up to where he’s at now with, Lorre.

It’s not known if it will be an autobiography, but this is all we know so far. Will it be about Charlie’s life? Will it be about his childhood, movie career, drugs, women, etc.? Maybe, don’t know.

Many would think Sheen is crazy, but he isn’t Mel Gibson or Lindsay Lohan. I don’t see how you can compare Sheen to Gibson or Lohan. It’s Gibson and Lohan that are insane. Sheen is completely harmless and innocent, yes, I’ve said that. Sure, Sheen may have personal problems, but Sheen is just like everyone else. He’s not perfect, we’re not perfect. He may like to party and he loves his porn stars, but hey, that’s his business, not ours.

I hope Charlie will get clean with drugs and become a better person, so he can get his career back on track. I think the point with Charlie’s memoir is that he wants to clear things up, save his character and get things off his chest. People may see him as a crazy guy and this fall out with Lorre, people will blame it on Charlie of course, but that’s why Charlie wants to write the book. To expose the greed and egos of the television business, behind the scenes. That’s his plan.

I’ll be interested in reading his book, and will buy it when it comes out.

Read the report here, at Deadline.

Edit to add: Btw, why do people find it a surprise that Charlie Sheen had a porn star addiction? He did that movie, “Rated X” with his brother Emilio, which is about porn movies. That’s not enough evidence that he could be a porn addict?
