Can the Millennium series survive without Stieg Larsson????

This the fourth novel of the Millennium series which is titled “The Girl In the Spider’s Web” written by David Lagercrantz which is set to hit bookshelves on Sept. 1st later this year.

Keep in mind that before Stieg Laarsson passed away, he wanted to keep the Millennium series going. So I guess they’re keeping the series going in honor of him ’cause this is probably what he wanted. I know the Lisbeth Salander stories won’t be the same without Larsson writing them but I’ll still give this book a shot.

The question is can these stories survive without Larsson? Many would think they won’t but I think it’s a possibility that the next book will be a best seller like the first three were. So yeah, I think the Lisbeth Salander stories will continue to thrive but I’m sure a lot of fans would still prefer Larsson writing them. I’m sure there’s a lot of fans would think that these books shouldn’t continue without Larsson but hey? Think about it, the Jason Bourne book series continued after Robert Ludlum died by a different writer of course.

I’ll give the next book a read but if I don’t like it, I’ll probably stop reading them. While I’m sure Lagercrantz tried his best to make fans happy, I’m sure the writing styles will be a little different, though.

Like a lot of people I’m a huge fan of the Lisbeth Salander stories too so I’ll see how the next book is gonna be.

Book Review: “The Art of Asking” by Amanda Palmer…

Today I’ve just finished reading “The Art of Asking” by Amanda Palmer and here is my review.

I have been a fan of Amanda Palmer ever since I’ve seen her inspiring TEDtalk from last year (see video below).

Amanda Palmer is known as the singer of the Dresden Dolls and she’s also most famous for being the “Queen of Kickstarter”. She was successful at Kickstarter for raising millions of dollars for her solo album, “Theater Is Evil” that was released in 2012.

This book is not just a memoir. It’s also a self-help book, the way I looked at it. I’ve read a lot of celebrity memoirs over the years and I’ll tell you. This book here was the most honest and real memoir I’ve ever read. It really was a powerful, moving and inspiring read. Amanda wrote this book as if she’s writing on a blog. She spoke from her mind. Writing all of her thoughts down.

She told interesting stories of how she made a living over the years. She didn’t want to get a regular 9 to 5 full time job like most normal people. She wanted to make money her own way… just by “asking”. Not really “begging”. She started off being a street performer. She started off as a living statue, the 8 foot bride… where she would dress up in a wedding dress and paint her face white. She would have a hat in front of her where people can put money in and when people put money in, she’ll give them a flower. She went from being a street performer to a musician. You probably remember that name Amanda Palmer of her famous band, The Dresden Dolls (I’m sure you’ve heard of them before).

This book is not just about Amanda and music. It’s not about her kickstarter success. This book is all about the art of learning how to “ask”. She just wants you to learn to not be afraid to ask for things like money, help, friendship, love, etc. Whatever. That’s what she teaches you in this book.

I couldn’t put this book down. It took me like 3 or 4 days to read. I’m glad I read it. Now that I finished it, I really want to get into Amanda Palmer’s music now and I’m planning on getting her Dresden Dolls albums and her solo albums too. She really is an inspiring woman. I started looking up to her ’cause she reminds me of myself in so many ways. She’s controversial and different. She’s trying to be understood… just like myself. She maybe the most hated woman on the internet but she’s passionate about the things that she does whether it’s her music or writing. She is somebody I would like to meet in person someday and she is somebody that I could talk to for hours and hours.

She maybe a little weird and a little crazy but who isn’t, ya know? We all are so what’s the big freakin’ deal??? I respect her for wanting to help people and she’s just an awesome woman. I’ve been following her social networking stuff since her TEDtalk last year and still follow her stuff today.

If you like inspiring and powerful reads, you should definitely check this book out. I am glad to finally have read it.

Books to read…

Welp… throughout the Winter, I’ve got some books to read. Right now, I’ve been reading Sharyl Attkisson’s book, “Stonewalled” and I will review it when I finish it. There are other books that I got to get around to reading too. Other books that I got to read that I currently own are Asa Akira “Insatiable” (a memoir written by an iconic porn star), Amanda Palmer “The Art of Asking” and Saul Alinsky “Rules For Radicals”.

Some of you may wonder, why did I get the Saul Alinsky book? Well, I got it out of curiosity after watching Dinesh D’ Souza’s movie, “America”. Obama happened ’cause of Saul Alinsky’s book, “Rules For Radicals” so I wanted to read that book for more research material about Obama. I didn’t get the book to support Alinsky or his writing, I just wanted to research more of how Obama came out to be. I wanted to know how Alinsky inspired Obama to be the way he is now.

Other than playing and listening to music, lifting weights, watching movies… reading books is another one of my favorite hobbies. Reading books have always been my passion since I was a kid. The books I mostly like to read are horror/thrillers, celebrity autobiographies, guitar instruction stuff and politics/history.

I like to read books ’cause it helps me think, stay focused and simply enjoy the peace and quiet. Stephen King is my favorite writer, though. I’ve been a constant reader of Stephen King for years. He’s pretty much the only fiction author that I mostly like to read although I do enjoy other fiction authors like George R.R. Martin and Dan Brown. I don’t read too many fiction authors.

I mostly like to get books on hardcover but once in a blue moon, I’ll buy an e-book for the Ipad.  Reading is good for ya, it’s one of my favorite things to do.

Book Review: Dancing With Myself

This week I finally finished reading Billy Idol’s book, “Dancing With Myself”. I have been a fan of his music for a long time. I’ve listened to his music and watched all of his videos on MTV back in my high school years. Like most, I always thought the dude was badass. The spike blond hair, the famous lip curl that he does and he also has one of the coolest singing voices in rock. Billy Idol started out playing punk music with Generation X but when he went solo he decided to take his music to a different turn by playing dance-rock music. Play rock music that you can dance to with songs like “Rebel Yell”, “Dancing With Myself”, “White Wedding” and many others. Even if you never bought his albums, I’m sure everyone have seen a video of his on MTV and heard a song of his on the radio. This guy is everywhere and he continues to be everywhere in the music industry today.

This was a very interesting book. It tells the story that goes from his childhood to today. Even though he had a difficult and challenging life growing up, he was still able to make his dreams come true by becoming a big rock star. Like most rock stars, he too went through an addiction with drugs, alcohol and sex. While he did have a lot of crazy and funny stories to tell, I was most interested in the punk music scene. Yeah, he talked a lot about the punk rock scene which was interesting stuff. I loved all the punk stories he told.

He also talked about the failure of his controversial “Cyberpunk” album, which after the release of that album… he took a long hiatus from the music business. I remember that too. I remember buying that “Cyberpunk” album when it came out on CD back in 1993. I don’t have it anymore, though because I think I got rid of that album and I regret getting rid of it ’cause I thought that was a great album even if the critical reception wasn’t very well received for that album. I thought the album was different and respected Billy Idol for doing something risky. I wanna get that album back somehow but it’s not even available in Itunes. I could probably get it from Amazon though.

One thing, though, I thought it was interesting that Billy Idol was almost hired for the T-1000 role for the film, “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. It’s true. Billy talked about auditioning for the role with James Cameron for the film. James really liked Billy as the T-1000 but Billy couldn’t get the role ’cause of his motorcycle accident he had. I remembered a lot of stuff he talked about in the book but a few new things I learned and Billy almost landing a role in “T-2: Judgement Day” was new to me, WOW!

You should give this book a read if you’re a fan of Billy Idol’s music like me. As you can tell, I’ve been a fan of rock n’ roll music my whole life, ever since I was a kid and I used to idolize Billy Idol and still do today. After reading this book, I’ll probably get his new album, “Kings and Queens of the Underground”. I’ll get that album this week probably.

Billy Idol is one guy who totally deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it’s amazing he hasn’t been considered yet. This guy had a big hand in changing the music industry. He was also one of the first artists to help launch MTV. He was very important to MTV and he helped MTV take the world by storm with his videos. That was back in the day when MTV was a “music” station.

This book is a great read. It was easy to read and pretty quick. I couldn’t put it down and you’ll be addicted once you start reading the first page. I’m glad Billy Idol finally did his memoir.

Why I love to read rock memoirs by rock stars…

I love to read books written by rock stars. Many famous rock stars have written their own memoirs (or autobiographies) over the years. Rock stars writing their own memoirs is becoming quite a huge trend in the music industry. I have read lots of rock star memoirs. I’ve read books by Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Gregg Allman, Sammy Hagar, Ace Frehley, Dave Mustaine, Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Dee Snider, Pete Townshend, Joey Ramone, etc.

Today, I have just purchased Billy Idol’s new memoir, “Dancing With Myself” for the Ipad in Ibooks. I have been a long time fan of Billy Idol and have been interested in reading his book for a long time. I’m interested in reading his story so I can’t wait to start reading his book soon.

I like reading rock memoirs ’cause they’re simply put, interesting to read. I like to learn the history of their life and career. That’s what they’re for pretty much. It’s an opportunity to get to know them better. Even if you have never met these guys in person, you feel like you already know them but you wanna know more so you read their books. I think it’s important for every music lover in America to read these books. If you really wanna become a big time music expert, you should read all this stuff ’cause it’s good research material.

I think their stories deserve to be told ’cause we get an idea of how they became rock stars and why they do what they do. All that stuff.

There are still plenty of other rock star memoirs out there that I still need to read that I haven’t gotten to yet but will soon. I still need to read Joe Satriani’s book, “Strange Beautiful Music”… gotta get that one at some point.

I think another reason why these guys write their own books is ’cause they want to give you a reality check of what the music industry is really like. Is the music industry always fun and positive as it looks? Not always. There’s going to be ups and downs in the music industry. Being a famous rock star isn’t always fun as it looks.

I can’t wait to start reading Billy Idol’s book. Not gonna read it now ’cause I’m reading a different book about Led Zeppelin (a book NOT written by the band, a book written by Mick Wall).

This is becoming a trend ’cause we’re at the point where all the iconic rock stars from the past are aging and they’ve achieved all that they needed to do so they feel that their story needed to be told. They don’t write these books for the money at all.

I hope more rock stars continue to write them. I wish James Hetfield would write his story ’cause that would be interesting. I also would like David Bowie to write his book (I did read somewhere that he is doing one).

I just enjoy reading them. They can be pretty informative when you want to learn about music.

Jimmy Page previews his photographic memoir book…

Most rock stars write their memoirs by text. Jimmy Page is doing his a little differently by telling his life and music career by photos which is creative and something different! Jimmy Page is a pretty artistic guy so it should be no surprise that he would come up with something like this.

This book looks pretty cool and I’m 100% positive that all Zeppelin fanatics like myself are dying to own this. This book will only be available in the UK for now but hopefully it’ll soon be sold in the US. I’d love to get my hands on that book myself. Jimmy’s one of my guitar heroes. I give him so much credit for making me want to pick up the guitar. I play because of him.

Bruce Springsteen is now a children’s author…

This is pretty cool. Springsteen teamed up with writer/cartoonist Frank Caruso to write a children’s book based on one of Springsteen’s songs called, “Outlaw Pete”. It’s the first song off the album, “Workin’ On A Dream”.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/bruce-springsteen-outlaw-pete-childrens-book-20140828

I’m not into children’s books but this looks like a pretty cool read and I’m actually curious about it.

“Outlaw Pete” is one of Springsteen’s best new songs too. The song really is amazing and powerful. This is a song I’ve always wanted to cover myself sometime but Springsteen sings a lot of high notes which would be a really tough one.

Listen to the track below.

George R.R. Martin warns “Games of Thrones” fans that he plans on killing off more important characters for the upcoming books…

Some of you may know that I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan. Love the books and love the TV show. Some of you know that writer, George R.R. Martin is not afraid to kill off characters that everybody likes.

Well, George warns fans that he plans on killing off more important characters for future “Song of Ice and Fire” novels. This probably means that he might plan on killing off important characters like Tyrion, Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Littlefinger, or even The Hound.

http://winteriscoming.net/2014/08/21/george-rr-martin-kill-main-characters/

I know GOT fans are getting pissed and frustrated that George takes forever to finish the next book but let him take his time. The less time he takes, the better the stories get. Sometimes, less is always more when writing stories.

I have all the GOT books so far and I have the first 3 seasons on DVD so I’m a huge fan of this franchise, indeed. I haven’t seen GOT “Season 4” ’cause I don’t have HBO anymore and I’m just waiting for Season 4 to come out on DVD.

I love this franchise so much, though. The stories are addicting and so are the characters. If you’re not into “GOT’s” yet, what are you waiting for?

Dinesh D’Souza vs. Hillary Clinton… which of their books is selling better???

Due to the unnecessary over hype of Hillary’s book, “Hard Choices” it may seem like that she’s selling good but she really isn’t. Not a lot of people are buying her stupid book. Which is good.

Just the other day when I went shopping, I walked into Barnes & Noble just to look around. Sure enough, as soon as I walked into the store, they have a table right in front with Hillary’s books all over it. You see Hillary’s book being over hyped in book stores all over while Dinesh’s book, “America” is less over-hyped. They don’t hype Dinesh’s book too much and the marketing isn’t that great. They promote Hillary’s book more than Dinesh’s.

Even though Dinesh’s “America” book isn’t promoted all that much in the media, it still seems to be doing quite well ’cause “America” just made no. 1 in the NYTimes Best Selling Non-Fiction so congrats Dinesh!!!

http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/hardcover-nonfiction/list.html

So the question you have to ask is, why do people ignore Hillary’s book but read Dinesh’s book instead? It’s simply because everyone is interested in learning about Dinesh’s take of what’s going on with America. Nobody’s interested in reading Hillary’s bullshit and lies. All this over hype of Hillary’s book was a waste of time and money.

Yeah true, Hillary’s book is at no 5. which is decent for her but not great. The only people who are probably reading her book are all those misinformed liberals who worship Hillary.

When I went to Barnes & Noble the other day, they had more copies of Dinesh’s book on the shelf but there were less copies of Dinesh’s book while Hillary’s book had stacks of them so Dinesh’s book is obviously selling very good!!!

I’m happy for Dinesh. “America” is a great book and you should read it and get yourself informed. People who buy Dinesh’s book are all patriots who love our country.

Yeah, Dinesh maybe in trouble with the law right now and he might face some jail time soon but that’s still not stopping people from buying his book. That’s still not stopping Dinesh from telling the truth. Why does the left worry about Dinesh being the criminal, when the real criminal here is Barack Obama? Yeah, Dinesh confessed to his crime and admitted to it but at least he took responsibility. At least he didn’t cover it up and try to get away with it like Obama would do.

I like Dinesh D’souza. Been a fan of his for a while now.
