Report: Michael Jackson movie is coming…hitting theaters Oct. 30th…

The judge at the court, approves the rights for Columbia and AEG Live to release the Michael Jackson movie to the rehearsal footage of the “This Is It Tour”. The film is already confirmed for a release date around Halloween time, Oct. 30th is the release date.

I think all the horror films that’s going to be released on Halloween will get bombed because of Michael Jackson. This MJ film will indeed be the box office hit of the year, it’s possible to sell bigger than “The Dark Knight”.

Will I see this when it comes out? Sure, definitely. I’ll see it.

Report: Tom Cruise’s son, Connor, to become an actor just like his old man…will join the cast of “Red Dawn” remake…

Connor Cruise, who is the adopted son of Tom Cruise will follow his father’s dreams of becoming a movie star. Connor who is now 14 years old, will join the cast of the “Red Dawn” remake.

If you think about it, United Artists, the film company that Tom is the manager of is helping out with the release of the “Red Dawn” remake…so you can betcha Tom reccomended MGM his son to be signed on to the movie. This isn’t the first movie that Connor starred in, before this, he was in Will Smith’s drama “Seven Pounds”.

How cool would it be to be the son of a Hollywood icon? He must love being adopted to a big movie star like Tom Cruise to get easy fame.

Film Review: G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra…

Starring: Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans

Directed by: Stephen Sommers

So now that I FINALLY have a day off of work, I spent the day at the mall to catch the new “G.I. Joe” movie and here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: The world’s famous action figures and cartoon series has finally hit the big screen in a live action film!!! That’s right, Yo Joe, you’re the real American hero! G.I. Joe. This film is just an introduction so it starts off small to explain how the G.I. Joe army group got together and how the Cobra army was formed. The G.I. Joe military team get together to battle against Destro from forming this evil army to help destroy the world.

Of course, after reading some reviews by critics and other movie fans, this movie is getting another one of these, “love or hate” kind of things. Most people are saying the acting is bad but the action scenes are great, that was it, but I think I’ll take some time to defend this movie.

Yes, of course, the acting of these flicks are going to be bad. In popcorn action flicks, the cast don’t have to have Oscar worthy acting skills, it’s never going to be that way in popcorn action flicks. It’s been that way for years. In popcorn action flicks over the years, it’s always been about the fun and the kick ass action scenes that put smiles on our faces. It’s typical for popcorn action flicks, so why trash “G.I. Joe” about the acting skills of the cast when it’s been the same for other popcorn action flicks in the past? In these kind of movies, the acting skills is not really a big deal and not important.

I have no problem with the acting skills. Yes, I agree the acting is not that great, but it don’t have to be when it’s a popcorn action movie. Hope you get my point.

My thoughts on the film? I was kind of blown away. In my opinion, it’s one of the best popcorn action flicks I’ve seen in a long time. I wasn’t bored and had a smile on my face watching the kick ass action scenes. The action scenes were brilliantly done and such a blast, and a thrill ride to watch!

There aren’t many characters in this first “G.I. Joe” action movie, but like I said, this is just an introduction. The only G.I. Joe characters the new film has are General Hawk, Duke, The Baroness, Snake Eyes, Heavy Duty, Destro, Cobra Commander, Scarlett, Cover Girl, and I think that’s about it.

I’m sure the sequel to “G.I. Joe” live action will bring in more characters from the action figures and cartoon series.

The fight scene between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was absolutely amazing, two ninjas sword fighting each other, wow. Lots of kick ass car chases between Ripcord, The Baroness and Scarlett.

I would say my favorite characters in the movie are Ripcord played by Marlan Wayans, I also liked Snake Eyes, The Baroness…but my only complaint is the new Cobra Commander face mask. They also reinvented the Storm Shadow character, the ninja with the white suit on which I also didn’t really like.

Of course, the film has a few little things I didn’t like here and there, but other than that Stephen Sommers did a fantastic job with the movie. I really enjoyed it. The CGI effects were actually pretty impressive and the sound was great, going to look and sound great on my home theater system when this film hits DVD.

Pretty funny because I haven’t enjoyed a Stephen Sommers movie in years since most of his movies suck considering this guy is the director of, “The Mummy” series, and I don’t like “The Mummy series” at all. The movie was fun and kicked ass.

In the sequel, I’m sure we will see more of the Cobra Commander in the Cobra uniform and see more of Destro as well. I also hope they add these characters to the sequel: Major Bludd, Lady Jaye, Tomax and Xamot, Roadblock, and Bazooka.

Bring on the sequel!

Score for “G.I.Joe – The Rise of Cobra” = **** (4 stars as in “Excellent”)

You ready for this ? Think you can take a Gordon Gekko return to the big screen? I’m sure Michael Douglas will bring the really good acting skills with this role.

I don’t want Shia in this, I prefer Charlie Sheen to come back but look like Charlie didn’t want in. Which explains why Shia got signed instead. It would have been awesome if Charlie came back as well!!!

Report: Spielberg finally picks his next directorial movie since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”…

Steven Spielberg took a break from directing movies since “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” due to working on producing for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” with Michael Bay. Since then, Spielberg kept booking his next projects to direct, he picked several movies like “Adventures of Tin Tin”, the movie about Abraham Lincoln, Will Smith’s “Old Boy” and “Harvey”. Which one did he pick first as his next directorial project? He decided to do “Harvey” which is based on a play and once adapted into a 1950 film that starred Jimmy Stewart.

“Harvey”, is about a man who has an imaginary friend as a 6 foot tall rabbit. Spielberg hasn’t revealed who he would like to have in the leading role but the top candidate could be Tom Hanks. I also think it could be Tom Cruise as well, since Spielberg worked with Cruise twice already.

Film Review: Funny People

Starring: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, Leslie Mann, and many more…

Directed by: Judd Apatow

So on a day off of work, I just came back from the mall to check out, the new Adam Sandler movie, “Funny People”. I have been interested in seeing this flick for quite a while and here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: Adam Sandler plays a comedian/actor named George Simmons, he is a famous man that is living life to the fullest until he learns from his doctor that he is very sick, and has very little time to live. He learned that he has a blood disorder that is incurable.

Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) is an amateur stand up comic who dreams of becoming a famous stand up. George Simmons and Ira Wright first meet up when they perform stand up at the same club. George hires Ira has his comic writer and opening act at all of his stand up shows. Ira tries to help George bring his comedy career up to a positive note so he can go out in his death in a good way. George then tries to reunite with one of his old girlfriends so he can try to be happy before he dies.

Many people online were saying this movie wasn’t that great, some are saying it wasn’t that funny that they thought it would be. I would disagree. I thought this film was absolutely fantastic all the way through! This movie was immensely enjoyable throughout! I wasn’t bored one bit and was entertained.

The acting of the entire cast was superb, impressive acting skills by all of them, Adam, Seth, Jonah, Jason, Leslie, etc. Adam’s acting was the best of the entire cast though.

This is Adam Sandler’s most realistic comedy film ever. Maybe that’s why certain people didn’t enjoy this film ’cause they were expecting it to be a LOL fest like all other typical Adam Sandler flicks. They were expecting this film to be like, “The Waterboy” or “Happy Gilmore” or something but this new movie, “Funny People” is a completely different Adam Sandler movie.

Most of Adam’s acting skills seem the same, but sometimes he brings the good acting chops. I thought Adam’s acting was pretty amazing in this flick, he pulled it off. Wow. Oscar nomination potential for Best Actor for Adam in “Funny People”? I think it’s a possibility! “Funny People” is not Best Picture worthy for an Oscar, but Adam certainly does deserve for Best Actor in it.

Of course, like many other Adam Sandler movies, there are a string of cameos by other celebrities. Celeb cameos in the film such as James Taylor, Myspace founder Tom Anderson (no kidding, he’s in this movie), Eminem, Ray Romano, Henry Rollins, Norm MacDonald, Sarah Silverman, etc.

“Funny People” was a mix of drama and comedy. I thought it was pretty funny all the way through. A very serious comedy that is very real and insightful.

Try to remember that before Adam Sandler was famous, he started out as an improv stand up comic, that is probably why he agreed to do this movie since it may have reminded him of his past.

I think this is indeed one of the best films of 2009 other than JJ’s “Star Trek”. Definitely check it out!!!

Score for “Funny People” = **** (4 stars as in “Excellent”)

BREAKING NEWS: “Alien” prequel is officially greenlighted, Ridley Scott is confirmed to return!!!

Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver have both been talking to the internet for months now about bringing the “Alien” franchises back to the big screen. It looks like it’s actually happening for real this time! Twentieth Century Fox has greenlighted a prequel to the first “Alien” film, with Ridley Scott officially attached to direct. Ridley Scott was the director of the very first “Alien” film that starred Sigourney Weaver which became the most famous sci-fi/horror film of all times.

The story to the prequel is set before the first movie of course. It will be about a crew of people towing a ship back to planet Earth…then sent to investigate a signal near a planetoid.

Although Sigourney Weaver have spoken to online movie news websites about bringing the “Alien” franchises back, it is not known if she will return as the leading character of Ripley.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006722.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Since this is a prequel, they would need a younger actress to play Ripley, and not Sigourney. Makes sense, to me. They can make Sigourney as Ripley as a small cameo, I would think. As long as they don’t make Sigourney’s cameo CGI, I’m all for it.

I wouldn’t support an “Alien” return to the big screen if anybody else directed it, but as long as Ridley is still doing it, I’ll be the first in line to see it in theater! Ridley is one of my favorite film directors. Love the guy’s work.

Report: “Secret of Nimh” to return to the big screen with new adaptation…it’s not a remake of the original film…

MGM studios first brought us, “The Secret of Nimh” which was directed by Don Bluth and was released in the year 1982. “Secret of Nimh” animated film was adapted from the famous children’s book, “Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH” by Robert C. O’ Brien. The character of the female mouse, Mrs. Frisby was renamed, Mrs. Brisby for Don Bluth’s film.

In the new, “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH”, story will be entirely focused on the original book. This is an adaptation from the novel, it is not remake. They plan to make this new movie a mixture of both live action and animation. The new “NIMH” movie will be brought to us by Paramount Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3i64d7e42a898297d743cce7f17982cc1f

This was one of my favorite films as a child. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. The new “Nimh” movie could be good if made right, as long as they stay true with the novel which the Don Bluth version didn’t, then it could be really good.

Report: Interesting interview with film maker, Peter Jackson…

Interesting interview with Peter Jackson, film maker who did the “Lord of the Rings” series, the “King Kong” remake, etc. He is currently making, “The Hobbit”, the prequel to LOTR.

In this interview he speaks about remakes, sequels, adaptations…he also speaks about his movie, “District 9” and other films.

Read it here:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/07/peter-jackson-movie-fans-are-fed-up-with-the-lack-of-original-ideas.html

While I love today’s Hollywood movies, the only complaint that I have about Hollywood is that I too am pretty much fed up with remakes, sequels and adaptations from books/TV shows. Hollywood is over doing this stuff to death. Why? It makes the box office a lot of money, that’s why.

Just so you know, Stallone’s, “The Expendables” is a completely original film. It’s not a sequel from one of his older movies, and it’s not adapted from a novel anywhere. “The Expendables” is completely original from Stallone’s mind…so when “The Expendables” hit theaters in 2010, this is why I think this movie will be the most successful of that year. The film has all the tough guy action stars all in one movie and what’s even better about it, the story is an original piece of work. There’s more reasons why I’m so excited about the film. Kudos to Sly, for finally doing something original this time! Yeah!
