Thought: “Clash of the Titans” remake is looking like a remake of “300” so far…

Here is Sam Worthington as Persues in the “Clash of the Titans” remake…

Notice the similarities of the other Greek film, “300”, that starred Gerard Butler.

I know “300” is a popular movie, and a lot of people like it, sorry to say, but I didn’t like it too much. “300” felt like too much of a video game to me, and it looks like “Clash of the Titans” remake is heading to that same root.

I’ve been saying from day 1 that “Clash of the Titans” remake is a bad idea, and I still stand by it. The only reason I would go see it, is to just see Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes playing in the same movie together again, that would be the only good reason to see it.

Report: Ivan Reitman says he is down with doing “Ghostbusters 3” if the final script is worth doing…

MTV News spoke with “Ghostbusters” director, Ivan Reitman about possibly directing the third film. He says he is interested in returning as director for “G3” but only if he feels that the story is worth doing it. He is a very important director for the series since he did the first two, so he says he wouldn’t walk away from the third one at all.

Bill Murray came up with the idea of making females as Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd liked the idea and threw a couple of actresses in that he would like to see in it. Ivan Reitman replied to Bill and Dan’s idea, saying that he doesn’t know if the “Office” writers will go for the female Ghostbuster idea in the final script or not.

MTV Movies Blog reports:

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/06/05/ivan-reitman-could-return-to-direct-ghostbusters-3/

I’m sure “The Office” writers will make a final script to make Ivan happy enough to go back on board directing. I hope they do go for the female Ghostbuster idea as well. Being a Ghostbuster doesn’t always have to be a man’s job, right? Women can be quicker and smarter when hunting down the ghosts, so I can see why they want a female Ghostbuster.

Lets hope they make the 3rd one, similar to the first one. If they make it more like “Ghostbusters 2”, then I won’t be interested in it.

Film Review: Drag Me To Hell

Starring: Alison Lohman, Justin Long

Directed by: Sam Raimi

Just got back from seeing the new Sam Raimi movie, “Drag Me To Hell” this afternoon. Sam Raimi returns to his roots, his classic comedy/horror genre into a new film. Here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: Alison Lohman plays a loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home. After learning that this woman is very strange and demonic, she learns that she is actually a monster called the Lamia where she can send Alison’s character to hell. For days, she has been tortured by this Lamia creature which it tries to send her to hell everytime but fails. Justin Long plays her characters boyfriend, while she seeks a promotion as manager at the loan office, she is being haunted by this Lamia demon with strange and evil things happening to her.

My thoughts on the film?

It totally felt like an “Evil Dead” remake, except this is a female version of Ash. A female version of Ash battling a bunch of demons. This movie wasn’t all that scary, although there were many jumps from the seat, I didn’t get jumped being scared one bit. I live my life watching horror films, so I’m used to watching them.

Sam Raimi kept the film low budget, Evil Dead old school style. Similar special effects and similar gore to the Evil Dead series. Similar humor too.

The film was alright, but it wasn’t anything special. I think Sam Raimi did a film like this as a test to see if he can still do horror films after years of doing work for Spiderman. The only thing I give “Drag Me To Hell” respect for, is that this proves that Sam Raimi is capable enough of making, Evil Dead 4.

I can easily see this film being “Evil Dead 4” with Bruce Campbell as Ash in the leading role, instead of Alison Lohman. Alison’s and Justin Long’s acting skills weren’t all that great. Sammy boy still has what it takes to do horror films though, that’s the only thing I give the film respect for.

It was an ok film. Nothing great, nothing amazing. I’ve seen better.

Score for “Drag Me To Hell” = ** (2 stars as in “ok”)

Cool Video: “Twilight Saga: New Moon” official teaser hits myspace…

The 2nd installment of the “Twilight Saga” series, “New Moon” hit the web over the weekend.

I’m sure all the tween girls are loving this trailer and going crazy over it, while all the men are hating on it, but I gotta say, I think the next movie looks better than the first!

Report: Somali pirates vs. Captain Phillips coming to the big screen!!! See? I told you so!

As I predicted, Hollywood is going to make a big motion picture out of this story of Captain Phillips being held captive by the Somali pirates. Columbia pictures has picked up the rights and greenlighted this huge news story to make it into a film. I believe that Columbia is going to make it an action movie with a big name star playing Captain Phillips.

No director and no writer is on board yet, just a bunch of producers.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3i7be20afc33b82a072365c2bbacd96518

Since Kevin Spacey is producing the film, I’m willing to bet, they’re going to get him to play Captain Phillips? Spacey doesn’t wear glasses and doesn’t have facial hair, but the make up and costume designers can simply give him that stuff.

Now a motion picture has been greenlighted for this controversial story, expect the video game industry to start making their own games to give their take on the story. Think how a game like this would be a cool first person shooter?

First look at “A Nightmare on Elm St.” filming…

Well, the remake of “A Nightmare On Elm St.” started filming. Here is Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Kreuger. In these pics they are starting off as Freddy Kreuger being a human character and then they show how he turned himself into a monster that is only seen in people’s dreams?

Film Review: Terminator Salvation

Starring: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Helena Bonham Carter, Moon Bloodgood

Directed by: McG

Yep, so I finally went and saw “Terminator Salvation” on this great day of Memorial Day this afternoon. Here is my review…

Plot/synopsis: This is a prequel set in the future, the story set before the earlier Terminator films if this makes sense. In, “Terminator Salvation” it is set in the year 2018. A full grown John Connor is on a mission in a resistance group, to stop the terminator machines against Skynet from creating the blast, known as “Judgement Day” (a nuclear blast the machines use to eliminate humans off of planet Earth). Connor teams up with another terminator machine named Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) to battle against these machines, while a young Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) joins to help ’em.

It wasn’t all that bad as I thought it would be. It was a pretty fun and exciting movie, just like a typical Terminator movie. The action was fun and exciting. It was good sci fi, it reminded me of “Mad Max: The Road Warrior”.

I thought Sam Worthington made a badass Terminator machine, he was great. Anton Yelchin was a great choice for a young Kyle Reese ’cause Anton looks like a young Michael Biehn.

The Arnold appearance was really cool, although I wish they gave him just a little more screen time. Even though it was a CGI Arnold, I’m glad they gave him some action like Terminator fans would want.

McG did a good job staying true to the earlier Terminator flicks. It ain’t the best Terminator movie but I did like it. I thought it was a pretty good one. The most I was impressed with the movie is the sounds effects, this movie is going to sound awesome on a 5.1 Surround Sound system.

I’m glad to hear Linda Hamilton’s voice overs in the flick too. McG did a good job making a Terminator movie but there could be more improvements. Hopefully Arny will agree to return as the leading role for T5 when his governor run is over.

Score for “Terminator Salvation”: *** (3 stars as in “good”)

RANT: Rob Zombie is a good film maker, like him or not…

This is in response to all the negativity and hate that Rob Zombie has been getting to his new “Halloween” franchise, as of late. When people are bashing and hating on Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” sequels, it just amazes me, how uninformed people really are about Hollywood film making.

The reason I believe that people are hating on Rob’s versions of these Halloween movies is that they are claiming that Rob is ruining these classics. He is only making them better and improving them.

I love the first Zombie’s “Halloween” for a lot of reasons. I’ll talk about the sequel too.

  • John Carpenter – Yes, the original “Halloween” with Jamie Lee Curtis is a classic. Rob has been wanting to re-make the “Halloween” movies for a long while, so John Carpenter gave Rob the approval, but he have to make his own version of it. John ordered Rob to not copy every scene from the original which Rob did exactly that. Rob made “Halloween” his own movie. It’s a different and original film. Rob wanted to show how Michael Myers turned into a serial killer, while John Carpenter’s version didn’t do that at all. Michael Myers is supposed to be a psychotic madman that is supposed to be insane. John Carpenter made the character crazy and insane, but not insane enough the way Rob made him. Rob knows how the character is supposed to be and he did a fine job at it, in my opinion. The way the old Michael Myers (Carpenter’s version) slowly walked around killing people was actually kind of boring, while Rob’s version of Michael Myers made him more fun and entertaining.
  • Michael Myers mask being different than the Carpenter version – Another complaint that the Zombie haters are complaining about, is the new version of the mask. They don’t like how it isn’t the same as the original. Like Carpenter said, Rob wasn’t allowed to make everything the same as the originals, so he had no choice but to make the mask different. I personally find the new mask much scarier and creepier than the John Carpenter version. You have to admit that it’s much scarier looking. I wouldn’t want the mask to be the same, I would want a different look too.
  • Sherri Moon being casted – Rob’s wife, Sherri Moon, is being attacked because they think she has bad acting skills and keep saying hateful things about her, that she needs to quit acting and not being allowed to star in the “Halloween” films. They hate her for that she stars in every Rob Zombie horror film because she’s his wife. Well, yeah. Of course. Nothing wrong with getting a job for your family, is there? Have you ever had a family member who owned a business and he/she gets you a job there for free, no matter what happens? It’s the same with Rob and Sherri. It’s the same with WWE when Vince McMahon gives his kids jobs at the WWE company. As far as Sherri Moon’s acting skills though, the only reason, they are shitting on her acting is because she is Rob Zombie’s wife and she’s beautiful. They are jealous of Rob that he has a hot wife. In horror films, you don’t have to have an Oscar worthy performance. There is bad acting all over horror films. Attacking Sherri Moon for her acting skills is pretty lame and silly, in my opinion. I agree, her acting isn’t the greatest but I thought her character playing Michael’s mom as a stripper worked pretty well, in my opinion. On top of that, Sherri’s been acting in Rob’s film work way before he started working on movies. Sherri’s been starring in many of White Zombie’s music videos and his solo music career videos too. She’s also been appearing on their album covers, a lot as well. Rob has an obsession with her, so what, nothing wrong with it.
  • The sequel getting rid of it’s classic “theme” song – So Rob Zombie ditched the classic theme song from the original Halloween for his sequel. Sorry to say, but I think this is a good plan. To try and have a much darker and scarier score. It helps makes the film original. I wouldn’t want to hear the same theme song in every film, would be boring and Rob felt it was time to ditch it for something new.
  • Rob’s directing style – A lot of people seem to shit on Rob’s camera work and style of directing. I think Rob’s one of the most talented horror directors out there. Sorry guys, but this isn’t the 80’s anymore. All them horror directors in the 80’s: John Carpenter, Wes Craven, George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper, etc. They all had their time. These are the 2000’s years. I’ve had a post that the reason so many horror remakes are happening, is because of today’s technology and they want to make horror films look like new with technology that they didn’t have back in those days.
  • Remakes shouldn’t be happening, they are ruining the classics – This is another popular argument with movie remakes. A lot of people complaining that classic films shouldn’t be remade ’cause they ruin ’em. Ya know, I’ll be honest, I have no problem with remakes and actually glad that the classics are being remade. It’s a good thing actually. People saying that remakes ruin the classics, doesn’t make a bit of sense at all. When they say that remakes ruin the classics, they mostly say it without any insight to backup with their discussion. How is it ruining the classics? You can’t think of an answer can ya? That’s just proof it isn’t ruining the classics. Rob’s Halloween series are successful, like ’em or not. He was the one that started all these horror films to be remade, since the classic films are getting too old, I find it okay to make new versions. I liked the “Friday the 13th” remake, they did a great job with that one. “Texas Chainsaw” remake was really good too.

I really am looking forward to seeing “H2” this year, Rob is a genius film maker and he will be considered a horror directing legend 20 years from now.

Will have a post coming up soon to defend Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” franchise…

This franchise, Rob Zombie’s take on “Halloween” is getting so much negative hate. You think when a director gets so much hate on how bad he makes movies, well, that’s just proving nothing of how really good he is. If he’s creating controversy, and getting people talking about his films, good or bad, he’s doing something right.

I will have a rant later today to defend Rob Zombie’s “Halloween”. I will make movie fans look like they don’t even know anything when it comes to Hollywood films.

Report: “Terminator Salvation” didn’t do well in the box office and it’s no surprise!!!

“Terminator Salvation” only made $43.0 million this Memorial Day weekend, while Ben Stiller’s sequel to “Night at the Museum” makes even more.

More on it here:

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reuters.com/quotmuseumquot-comedy-beats-quotterminatorquot-box-office-reuters

It’s no surprise to me. I guess the only reason that Terminator didn’t do well in the box office is that simply….no Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading role.

If Arnold starred the leading role in this film throughout, then it would be a gaurunteed box office record breaking smash, no matter how bad the storyline is.

This is just proof that Terminator can not be successful without Arny. When Arny gets done being governor, lets hope he does the smart thing, get back into shape with his fat body, agree to star in “Terminator 5” so he can save the franchise.

I am agreeing with everyone else, that I can’t see a Terminator movie without Arny. I’ll still see “Terminator Salvation” this week sure, hopefully either tonight or tomorrow.
