Want to become a better rock or metal guitarist? Listen to the blues…seriously…

A lot of rock or metal guitarists out there would be influenced and inspired by other musicians that play the same genre. While that is great and nothing wrong with it, I would strongly suggest more rock and metal guitarists to listen to more blues music. I’m not talking about listening to just SRV, Hendrix or Clapton.

You need to listen to real blues music. The classics. Stuff like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Albert King, BB King, Jimmy Reed, and all those guys.

I listened to all that stuff as much as I could to inspire my rock n’ roll playing. Most of your favorite guitar heroes in the rock and metal genres were inspired by the blues. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were both heavily blues inspired, that’s where they got the heavy rock sound from.

This is probably the reason why my lead guitar playing sound kind of bluesy and my rhythm playing is kind of bluesy as well.

Blues music would get slammed by a lot of musicians. The genre gets accused of “noodling” and being “boring”. It’s not boring. Blues music is serious music and if you actually listen to it, it’ll grow on you. Not all blues music is the same I-IV-V progression. There’s some pretty complex blues music out there if you look around.

Some guitarists would rely on classical music to be inspired in order to become a better guitarist in rock and metal, but you need to listen to blues as well. Blues music is not bad. I’ve always loved the genre.

This is where rock n’ roll and metal came from, guys. It all came from blues music. If it wasn’t for blues music, none of you would have a guitar in your hands right now.

Rollingstone’s Top 500 album list is disappointing, just like most of their top lists are…

Rollingstone magazine revealed their top 500 albums list. Of course, the Beatles dominate the top 10. While most Rollingstone top lists are crap, I agree with no. 1. Beatles, “Sgt. Peppers” is the greatest album ever made, in my opinion. I’m disappointed that Led Zep is not even in the top ten, they are way up there.

Check out the list, here.

I think I’ll do my own version of the Greatest Albums of all time list, I’ll at least do a top 20, and you betcha, Led Zep will dominate my version. I’ll do my version, sometime this week.

Brock calls out this Megadeth facebook fanpage that does guitar giveaways…

There is this Megadeth facebook fanpage floating around, and it’s getting popularity pretty fast. How? The site claims it does guitar giveaways.

It’ll show a picture of the guitar this page is giving away and then it’ll ask you to like it, and share it, you’ve entered the contest. It’s giving away all kinds of expensive musical equipment, not just guitars.

Check it out, here.

WARNING!!!!!!!! DO NOT TRUST IT!!!!

The page is stepping way over the legal line. The contests aren’t legit. Those pics of those guitars and other musical equipment they are claiming to give away, they stole those pics from other instrument websites, just random google photos.

For example that Gibson Les Paul 1969 custom pic was stolen from this site, here.

The page says it isn’t official, but there are tons of copyright infringement stuff on there, with the Megadeth band name and the RoadRunnerRecords name. Plus, the site is disrespecting the band Megadeth, itself.

A lot of people fell for that site, and thinking the giveaways are real, but they pick you as a winner and if they ask you for your address, you’ve made a huge mistake there. Don’t give out your address to people you don’t know.

That page is getting popular and it should be taken off of facebook. The band, Megadeth, themselves haven’t picked up on that page yet, but I’m sure it will get to their attention soon. The owner behind that page, should get a “cease and desist” letter by the Megadeth attorney. I hope they do.

Just kind of proves my point that people don’t use facebook carefully. People are NOT smart using facebook. I almost fell for the giveaways myself, but then I immediately realized that site is out to fool people. Even if you get picked as a winner, you won’t get anything delivered at your home, I’m sure.

Don’t like that page.

Report: Pete Townshend to release “Who I Am” memoir, Oct. 8th in the US…

Pete Townshend and the Who, announced the release date for his memoir titled, “Who I Am”, set to release Oct. 8th in US, and Oct. 11th in the UK.

The book will focus on everything about Pete’s life. It will focus on his music career and his personal life outside of music. All of it.

More on the story, here.

I’m very excited for this book. Why? Because I am a huge fan of Pete Townshend and the Who. I’ve been a long time fan of the Who. I’m a fan of Pete’s solo career as well. The guy is a musical genius, love him or hate him.

I know Pete is accused of being a pedophile by many, but I think that is pretty much one of the reasons for this book. He wants people to understand him better in a more positive direction.

Plus, more importantly, I’m more interested in reading about Pete’s musical career. I want to know how he ended up joining the Who. How he came up with smashing guitars and doing that spin wheel arm thing he does on stage, when he plays the guitar. I want to learn more insight about the Who’s career as well. I want to know more about his obsession with guitars and stuff.

No matter what you think of Pete and no matter what happens to him legally, he will always be a rock n’ roll legend. That won’t change.

The Who were one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands on the planet, I fuckin’ loved them and still do. I’ll be getting this book for sure.

Thought: Why Adele, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry are the best thing going in the music industry today…

It’s VERY rare that I like pop artists. I can’t stand most pop music, but I would like very few of them. As some of you know, I’m mostly into rock and roll & metal. Stuff that aren’t too commercial and mainstream. However, I am a huge fan of Adele, Gaga and Katy Perry. Why?

Not only that these women are great singers, and songwriters, I also admire the way they express themselves. I dig their music ’cause their music is rock n’ roll in some way or another. I don’t consider these three artists guilty pleasures either. I really do like their music like a real fan. I own CD’s by all three: Adele, Gaga and Perry.

They are the true Divas of today’s generation. They have what it takes to make the industry, stronger and better. Plus, they write songs with heart and passion. They write amazing and powerful songs. To those that don’t like any of them, just won’t admit that they are great.

These women are the future of music and they’re not going away, anytime soon. If these women weren’t around, then the music business would fail. It’s too early to say, you can betcha they will become big legends 20 years from now. Future, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers? Absolutely!

All three of these women write pretty real and honest songs. They write songs that everyone can relate to. Plus, they are so much fun to listen to and I get chills hearing their music. I would love to see all three of these artists perform live if they ever come around here on tour. Hopefully at least one of them will play a concert here. I think I would love to see Adele live more than the other two.

I wish Ted Nugent would run for president, I would vote for him if he did…

I love how Ted attacks Obama in the media and I love his views on politics. If Ted ran for President this year, he could easily win. Ted is just not afraid to tell the truth about Obama. He’s just doing whatever it takes to make Obama lose voters, even if it meant being investigated by the Secret Service.

Ted Nugent is the f’ing man. Always liked him. Plus, I love his music as well.

Top 10 Dead Musicians the industry should bring back to the stage…

So the new invention of the Hologram in the music industry is becoming a huge hit. Everyone is talking about what dead musicians they should bring back to the stage. I’m sure a lot of them will bring them back on either their birthdays or anniversary deaths.

Here’s a list of top ten dead musicians that I think that should be brought back from the grave:

  • Elvis Presley – I’m sure they’re already planning something for the King.
  • George Harrison & John Lennon – Get Paul McCartney and Ringo on the stage, get a George and John hologram, we can officially have a Beatles reunion, finally.
  • Jimi Hendrix – Wouldn’t it be cool if an upcoming Superbowl have Jimi  playing the National Anthem on guitar? Yeah it would.
  • Johnny Cash & June Carter – This would be badass!
  • Jerry Garcia – A Grateful Dead reunion with Jerry fronting again would be awesome!
  • Cliff Burton – I wouldn’t be surprised if Metallica is planning on it. Could they do it at their Orion festival?
  • Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, the Big Bopper – The next “Day the Music Died” anniversary???
  • Jim Morrison of the Doors – Bringing the Lizard King back would be great!
  • Kurt Cobain – I hope Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic would plan a Nirvana reunion of some kind, with a Kurt hologram fronting them would be awesome.
  • Bon Scott of Ac/Dc – Maybe in the next Ac/Dc tour, they could make a Bon Scott hologram. I fuckin’ love Ac/Dc! I love both the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson eras.

Feel free to add to the list if you want. Enjoy.

Report: Tom Petty’s stolen vintage guitars found, thief arrested!

Last week, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, were rehearsing for their tour at Culver Studios in Culver City, but 5 vintage guitars were stolen from the band. They were very old and very expensive guitars! The band offered, a $7,500 reward with, “no questions asked”, if anybody had information or even found them.

Well, the guitars were found and the thief was arrested. No details were given at this time, but they will discuss it at a press conference.

More on the story, here.

Tom Petty, the man himself, posted a statement about it on the band’s official facebook page. He wrote, “The guitars have been found! I am extremely grateful to the Culver City Police Department for a job well done and touched by the outpouring of good wishes and concern from our fans and friends.” – Tom Petty

Congrats, Tom! I’m sure he’s extremely happy now! Lessons learned to all bands out there for you vintage collectors. Keep them locked up and keep them in a safe place, when they are unattended. Don’t think that someone won’t grab them when you’re not around.

Cool Video: I must say that the Hologram thing at Coachella was very cool!

Now dead musicians will have the opportunity to perform on stage again!!! Well, sort of! While I wasn’t that crazy about this year’s Coachella lineup, I thought what Dr. Dre did here was very cool, and a wonderful thing to do to pay homage to an artist!

The music industry will probably do this a lot more often for live concerts for TV! Will they do this for Elvis? Hendrix? Janis Joplin? Jim Morrison? Maybe even Kurt Cobain?

I think Metallica should do a Hologram for Cliff Burton, that would be awesome!

I’m not into rap too much anymore but I thought this was very cool! The Hologram will indeed be the next big thing in the music industry.

When will Johnny Depp ever start a full time music career?

We all know that iconic actor, Johnny Depp, is a musician. He’s a guitar player and singer himself. We see Johnny on and off in the music industry. He mostly focuses on his full time movie career instead.

Will Johnny Depp ever come out with his first album? Maybe even tour? I’m sure he will at some point, but I would think he didn’t start a career in music yet ’cause he just does it for fun. Music is his second passion other than acting.

Maybe when Johnny retires from film, he’ll start a music career then. I’m sure he will release his first solo album someday, just give it time.
