Why I respect the hell out of Metallica…

Last night, I watched the new Metallica movie, “Through The Never” on BluRay that I picked up for myself earlier this week. It was a very cool film!!! It’s not just a typical live concert movie like all the others out there. Metallica “Through The Never” is something different. It’s not just a live concert, it’s also a fictional movie that tells a story… about a kid named Trip who is a Metallica roadie sent out to do a mission for the band while Metallica plays their big concert. Trip’s story turns into an action/adventure story in the city they were in. The movie had cool special effects and good cinematography. I was most impressed with the live concert in the film, though. The setlist for the gig was good. During the live performances, the movie makes it seem like you’re on stage with the band instead of watching it from the audience. I thought it was a very cool film and definitely something unique.

I respect Metallica so much for a lot of reasons. They get a lot of haters and negative criticism and I just never understood it. Metallica has always been an amazing band to me. I stuck with them even through the “St. Anger”, “Load/Re-load” stuff. Even though those three albums had negative criticism, I still thought they were great albums. I admired Metallica for trying something different musically ’cause they’ve grown tired of the speed-metal thing. They wanted to change and evolve. That’s what bands do, ya know? A lot of bands don’t wanna stay in the same sound. Most of them wanna go different directions. When Metallica released their, “Death Magnetic” album… they tried to bring back the speed-metal genre in that album to keep the fans happy but sure enough, fans will always find something to criticize Metallica about. Fans criticized the sound quality on “Death Magnetic” that people couldn’t hear Rob Trujillo’s bass. They also criticized the songwriting some.

I respect the hell out of Metallica ’cause not only they are great musicians and the best live performers… I respect them ’cause they are not afraid of anything and not afraid to take risks. They’ve got balls for sure. I respect them ’cause they stayed together for this long even though the members went through some heated feuds and they even got clean with alcohol/drugs, they don’t do that stuff anymore.

Love ’em or hate ’em, their legacy is something special. They are the kings of metal. Without Metallica then all of these metal bands that you like would never be around. Metallica helps keep metal alive. They are still great live performers too and they still kill it on stage. I know this ’cause I have had the pleasure of seeing Metallica live for the first time myself during the “Death Magnetic” tour when they played Albany. It was a great gig. I’ll never forget it.

Fans want Metallica to release a new album this year. Metallica has plans to release a new album this year, I think. Metallica are slow at releasing albums ’cause they spend most of their time touring heavily. That’s another reason why I respect them. The band tours heavily on a year-round basis non-stop. More reasons why I respect Metallica is that they are good guys… they love their fans and good with them.

When Metallica releases their next album, you know it’s always going to get mixed reviews. Metallica can’t please everyone these days. People will always find something to hate them about. Doesn’t matter what they do, nope, can’t make people happy. That’s another reason why I respect Metallica. They simply don’t give a fuck. They’ll do the things they wanna do and not care what the public thinks. The “Lulu” thing with Lou Reed is proof of that.

Metallica have accomplished everything. I don’t see them stopping anytime soon. They’re just like every other band, ya know? They too just wanna play, get their stuff out there, get heard just like all bands. Metallica respects other talent. They don’t think they are better than others at all. That’s why they agreed to play festivals with other bands especially their own festival, Orion Fest., so they can show their support to other music artists.

I don’t understand all the Metallica hate. They deserve to be respected for all the reasons I explained above. Long live the mighty Metallica!!! I’ll always love and respect them. \m/

My thoughts on the Red Hot Chili Peppers “faking it” at the Superbowl…

There’s a lot of controversy on this. The Red Hot Chili Peppers getting caught playing their instruments unplugged and they have been accused by a lot of fans that the band have been “faking it” on stage. Ya know…. fake playing the instruments and lip syncing and all that stuff. The band have been accused of not having any real talent after that. So Flea, responds to the controversy by taking to the Chili Peppers website and wrote an open letter to all the fans explaining the whole thing. According to him, he claims that the vocals were live and the instruments were pre-recorded by them, the band. He explains why they did it ’cause the Superbowl didn’t want a bad sound in that stadium. He then defends the band saying that they can really play at their concerts ’cause their concerts are mostly improvised jams and stuff.

Do I believe him? I don’t know. It’s hard to take everything seriously in the music industry in this day and age. Pop singers have been accused of faking it for many years but not many accuse rock bands of faking it. That’s probably why controversy sparked out of this ’cause it’s hard to see a rock band “faking it”. Well, all music is pretty much fake in the major label industry and that includes a lot of rock bands.

Even if the Chili Peppers don’t have any musical talent, do you guys find it a surprise? I wouldn’t find it a surprise in this day and age of the music industry.

I used to love the Chili Peppers. I used to love their older stuff. I think “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” was the best album they did, obviously. “Californiacation” is right behind it. I only liked the Chili Peppers when John Frusciante was guitarist, I don’t care for the new guy. I even saw the Chili Peppers live in concert once before.

On top of that, it’s the freakin’ Superbowl. Pretty much every act during the Half Time Sueprbowl every year, faked their performance… even Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band admitted to faking theirs too.

It’s nice to finally see people waking up on how fake the music industry is today. The industry doesn’t believe in real talent anymore. Just have the good looks and then you get a record deal. Most music is manufactured and that includes Bruno Mars.

This is why I prefer music in the old days 50’s – 70’s. I like new stuff sure… but I mostly like classic music, the old stuff. That’s where the real talent is. Fuck all of this lip syncing and auto-tuned bullshit.

It’s interesting how the mainstream media forgets, “The Day The Music Died”…

Whenever Elvis Presley’s birthday or anniversary death comes around, the media and the internet is all over it; however, when “The Day The Music Died” anniversary comes around… it is ignored by everyone. I’ve never forgotten that tragic day: Feb. 3rd, 1959, and I’ll always remind people of it every  year.

America should care about this day and deserves to be known. Why? Because that day truly was the day the music died. These three musicians changed the world of music forever. These three are the reason why music is here today. They are the reason why we all love music and why many of us are musicians. If these three musicians: Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens weren’t around then Elvis and the Beatles wouldn’t have been around.

It’s a shame that Ritchie’s life and music career was cut short. Ritchie would have had a big music career indeed… he could have been just as big as Elvis and The Beatles. I’ve always been interested in Ritchie’s life story and music.

Today’s music generation certainly have forgotten rock n’ roll in the 50’s. Everybody wants to focus on today’s pop music.

Everybody should learn about “The Day The Music Died”. It’s an important piece of music history we should all learn and know. This day is called, “The Day The Music Died” for a reason as Don McClean called it in his song, “American Pie”.

I love the Ritchie story and the movie “La Bamba” w/ Lou Diamond Phillips (Yes, that movie is accurate on Ritchie’s story). If you’ve forgotten about this important piece of history in music, learn.

When will I make a video tribute to the Big Bopper? Maybe I’ll do that for next year’s Feb. 3rd. How’s that sound?

Bruno Mars & The Chili Peppers…. Superbowl halftime performance thoughts…

Well, there have been mixed opinions from the Bruno Mars & Chili Peppers performance during Halftime Superbowl. Some love it, some hated it. Well, I didn’t even like it myself.

Why? Because that kind of music is not my cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong, Bruno maybe a talented dude, I just feel that he is a Michael Jackson and Prince wannabe a little bit. Even the Red Hot Chili Peppers couldn’t save the performance. The Chili Peppers don’t believe in wearing shirts on stage like usual. I just think the Bruno performance was too boring to me. Not my cup of tea.

I hope the Superbowl will get a rock act next year. I’m tired of all these R&B and pop stars taking over the Superbowl halftime show. We should get a rock act next year but nope. Next year we’ll probably get Miley, Justin Bieber or Kanye.

As for the game itself, like everyone else, I thought the Seahawks vs. Broncos was boring as fuck. It was a pretty bad game. That’s all I gotta say about that.

Motley Crue done??? I wouldn’t take their so called retirement seriously… yet…

Today, the legendary 80’s hair metal rockers, Motley Crue, famous for songs like “Dr. Feelgood”, “Girls Girls Girls”, etc. just announced a pretty lengthy farewell tour w/ Alice Cooper opening. After they finish their tour, the band claims they’re done completely.

Sorry but these guys are full of shit and I don’t buy their “retirement” one single bit.

Usually when legendary bands & artists announce retirement publicly… they usually make huge comebacks years later. Look how many times Kiss have done that? It’s hard to take “retirement” from bands/artists seriously these days. Why? It’s because of their huge egos… they all wanna make that “huge comeback” so they can sell more tickets to their shows.

Motley Crue is a great band though, I’ve always dug ’em.

Don’t take “retirement” seriously. They’ll be back… they always come back.

What was wrong with the Metallica and Lang Lang performance? I thought it was fine!!!

So Metallica and Lang Lang performed the Grammy’s last night, and the Metallica song they ended up playing was “One” which was a great choice of a song actually! I’m glad they stayed away from “Enter Sandman” for once.

Like usual when it comes to Metallica there are always mixed criticism. Some loved this performance and some hated it but what’s new with Metallica haters, ya know? People will hate everything Metallica does these days. Every time Metallica wants to try something different, nope, they can’t make everybody happy. That’s why I respect the hell out of Metallica. They aren’t afraid to take risks with their music and try something new.

I liked this collaboration with Metallica and Lang Lang. The piano sounded different with metal.

When people are hating on this performance, the critique is that the sound mixing is a little off and Kirk’s guitar is out of tune a little bit. People are also complaining about James’s vocals and like always, they still think Lars drumming sucks.

I mean really? I agree that the sound mixing was a little off but despite the technical issues they still played really well. I thought it was a good performance. At least, it proved that Metallica can really play. Metallica never believed in fake playing, auto-tuned and lip syncing like most of the Grammy’s show was just that.

You should still give the Grammy’s credit for finally having heavy music on the show, though. I did watch the Grammy’s last night and to be honest, it was actually a pretty good show. I was impressed with the diversity of genres. They had every genre of music perform on the Grammy’s stage. Something for everybody which was kind of cool. I respect that.

Although, I’m disappointed that Lorde didn’t win “Album of the Year”, Daft Punk deserved it too ’cause they’re good even though that group is gimmicky as hell.

Back to Metallica and Lang Lang, I wish people wouldn’t be so opinionated and hateful. Lang Lang looked like he was having a blast performing with Metallica. Huge smile on his face throughout the performance. After this, I can definitely see Metallica and Lang Lang collaborate again. Maybe Lang Lang will special guest on the next Metallica album, that’ll probably end up happening.

The Grammy’s was actually a decent show. I was surprised.

Kev

Yes, I think I’m gonna watch the Grammy’s tonight…

Yeah, I’ll probably watch the Grammy’s tonight just for laughs and for something to watch on TV. I wanna see the Metallica and Lang Lang performance. I’ve been watching Lang Lang videos in youtube and he’s a pretty sick pianist. Wow!!! After seeing Lang Lang in youtube, I can easily see why him and Metallica would be an obvious collaboration. Lang Lang plays fast piano so he can easily jam along to speed metal.

Anyway as for my predictions on the winners of the Grammy’s tonight, I’d say who the hell cares but I know that Lorde will probably sweep everything, and she will indeed win, “Album of the Year” for her “Pure Heroine” album. It’s a great album so I actually would like to see her win those awards tonight ’cause you know she’s going to.

Other than that, it’s probably gonna be a horrendous show… the Madonna performance will be a nightmare but will be funny to watch.

I’ll write an honest review of the Grammy’s either late tonight or tomorrow.

Kev

Oh great, Madonna is now set to perform the Grammy’s this Sunday, wonder what kind of controversy we’ll get out of her???

Are you ready for a half naked middle-aged woman to take the stage at the Grammy’s this Sunday night? Yes, Madonna is set to perform. For the past several years, she has been quite the controversial performer. She’s not only almost naked on stage most of the time, she’s still doing her “sexual” image like she has always done.

I used to like Madonna but I only liked her back in the 80’s. I don’t like her anymore, though.

The Grammy’s is this Sunday and I’m trying to debate on whether or not I should watch it. I’m actually curious about the Metallica and Lang Lang performance so I’ll probably watch it for that.

Miley may have been controversial at the VMA’s but Madonna can make her look bad easily. The Grammy’s will indeed pull some controversy so they can try to top the Miley thing.

A little rant about Justin Bieber fanatics…

Are those Justin Bieber fanatics this obsessed with him? I’d  have to say that those “Beliebers” are the most pretentious fans I’ve ever come across from. They absolutely worship the kid as if he is god or something. I understand being a big fan of a music artist is all cool and good but I wouldn’t exactly be that obsessed with them. I maybe a huge fan of Led Zeppelin but I’m not that obsessed with the band. If Led Zep do or say bad things, I’m not gonna smile at everything they do as I even think Robert Plant  is an asshole sometimes, I’ll admit it.

Whenever other celebrities bash Justin Bieber like say Patrick Carney of the Black Keys for example, the Beliebers will start attacking that celeb by sending him/her death threats and all that stuff.

No matter how many times Justin Bieber gets in trouble in his life, his Beliebers will back him no matter the situation. He could continue to piss in public places and throw eggs at peoples homes, those Beliebers will still love him. They even stayed loyal to him through all this drunk drag racing stuff. It doesn’t matter what Biebs does. He could take out a knife and stab someone or rob a bank and those Beliebers will still love him. Even if he committed murder and stuff like that, they would still love him. Even if Biebs says something offensive and if he harassed women… once again… they would still love him.

Biebs is always a trending topic on twitter… almost all of the time.

I never really understood the Bieber obsession, ya know? It’s all pretty moronic.

That’s the way fans are in this day and age of music I know but Bieber fans are a different story. If you think Bieber is bad, I think his fans are worse. They are almost like a cult.

Someday the Justin Bieber obsession by those kids will fade out when he gets older. By the time he reaches 30, I don’t think he’ll be doing pop music then and kids will no longer care for him when he’s older.

That’s kind of how fans were when the Beatles were young but Bieber fans today even make the Beatles look bad. Justin Bieber is NOT the Beatles of this generation, that’s for sure. I wish parents would teach their kids on what music artists to support and Justin Bieber shouldn’t be one of them. It’s just crazy. All of it. Despite Justin’s troubled life, he’s still doing the music thing ’cause he still have a lot of fans.

I hate the way the music industry is today. The music industry used to be something special in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s but today??? Blech. I can’t stand all that manufactured and auto-tuned pop shit myself. Back in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, there was none of that auto-tuned and lip syncing bullshit. I don’t see the music industry getting better anytime soon. It’ll continue to get worse each year.
