The Brock talks about the Olympics and the Closing Ceremony

So the Olympics is all over with. It was quite a ride watching most of it. Yes, I did watch most of the Olympics this year. The games that I mostly watched were swimming, diving, gymnastics, freestyle wrestling, and weight lifting. I didn’t care for all the other games. I just watched the games that I liked.

For the swimming, a lot of history making moments. Dana Vollmer and Missy Franklin both won golds, and broke world records, and I was impressed with both of those young women. I still don’t care for Michael Phelps even if everyone believes that he’s the greatest Olympian, but in my humble opinion, he’s not the greatest Olympian in history. There are plenty of other great Olympian men that were overlooked, like Usain Bolt, for example. What Usain Bolt did in track and field was pretty impressive. Bolt should be getting all the recognition, but of course, he doesn’t ’cause he isn’t American. NBC tries to make American athletes look good, while they ignore talent from other countries.

What game was I most impressed with? Like I said, I was most impressed with the swimming races. I was more impressed with the women racing in swimming more than the men though. I was also most impressed with freestyle wrestling. That is real wrestling right there, not the fake bullshit you see in WWE. There were some great wrestling matches, I had fun watching them. Watching the weight lifting was fun too.

I did watch the final men’s basketball game yesterday morning with USA vs. Spain, which was a really great game by the way.

As for the Olympics Closing Ceremony last night. It was alright. Most of it was pretty silly and I didn’t care for most of the performances except for the Freddie Mercury tribute and Brian May performance which was pretty sick. The Queen tribute was the best thing that happened at the Closing Ceremony last night. The Eric Idle performance was cool too though. When the David Bowie tribute came on, I was hoping and praying that David Bowie himself would come out to perform a song, but of course, he never did. I guess, David is really retired from music? It would have been cool to see David perform, “Heroes” last night or something. I just wish Bowie would perform again. Not sure why he is staying away from music after all these years. He just quietly vanished from the music business.

I was looking forward to the Who performance but NBC didn’t show it ’cause the Olympics Closing Ceremony went overtime at the end and NBC ran out of air time. They couldn’t air the Who performance which is kind of disappointing, ’cause NBC promoted pretty heavily that the Who was going to main event the Closing Ceremony, but they ended up not showing the performance at all.

It was a good Olympics year. I wonder what country will get the Summer Olympics in the next 4 years? I hope they give it to the United States next, ’cause we haven’t hosted an Olympics in a long while, I believe.

Olympics part 3…

A commenter wanted a few examples where a UsA athlete would show respect to their opponents who are from other countries? Well Missy Franklin and Michael Phelps both did just that after their big wins tonight. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Athletes show respect to other countries, all the time. The Fab 5 girls should have done that to Russia, that’s what’s I’M TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE!

Kev

More on the Olympics… Fab 5 vs. Russia…

To make things more clear and to explain it better… now I’m not exactly saying that the Fab 5 should go over to their opponents to hug/shake hands or whatever right after a game is over with. What I really mean is that they really need to show that they care. Most athletes in the Olympics do care about their opponents from other countries. Most US athletes are passionate and respectful of other countries. I’ve seen it. I’m sure everyone else had too. They don’t exactly go over to shake hands or hug but they do show ways of caring. When the medals are given, hands are usually shaken as a way to show them respect at the end.

There was something about the Fab 5 that didn’t seem right. Russia was full of emotion and guilt. Crying in tears, and most of the Russian girls were very young, they look like they were 14 or 15. The Fab 5 girls maybe a little older. The Fab 5 girls didn’t even look at the Russian girls. There wasn’t a sign of respect from the US team at all toward Russia, instead they were all over themselves as if they were in a god damn slumber party, while Russia cried their eyes out. Know what I mean? They don’t necessarily have to shake hands or hug, but at least be compassionate for the losing team. Give them a nod of respect or apologize or something. Just something to make them feel better, but the girls in the Fab 5 didn’t do shit. They just let them suffer. Cruel. Just cruel.

There’s too much hate and bullying everywhere, and it even happens in the Olympics sometimes. I like the what the girls in the Fab 5 did, they were incredible young athletes, can’t deny that. They were just too excited for their gold medal win earlier this week, that they didn’t care about anything else around them. It was their ego. That’s what it is.

At least Michael Phelps shows sympathy to the people he races with, he has class.

Kev

Brock says no to Gabby Douglas winning the gold, Russia should have won…no joke…

I’m a proud American, but that doesn’t mean I have to support every American athlete winning the gold at the Olympics. I don’t have to support Michael Phelps because he is an American and I don’t have to support the Fab 5 because they are Americans. When Gabby Douglas, the teen gymnastics sensation was announced the winner of gold last night, I’ve noticed that her or the other four girls in the USA team, didn’t show any respect to Russia again last night. They acted like Russia didn’t exist. They left the Russian girls crying in tears like they didn’t have a care.

While it’s great the USA dominate the Olympics like we usually do, we need to show more respect to the other countries we compete against.

Sometimes the other countries can be talented athletes too, and I’ll admit that China is interesting to watch. Gotta be real about stuff, folks. While I support USA athletes it is interesting seeing unique and different talents from other countries too. I’m glad the Fab 5 are dominating the gymnastics, but they need to show more respect to other countries, and not loving themselves and their huge egos. Make the losing teams feel good about the loss and show respect. The Fab 5 girls didn’t do any of that. They have hatred toward Russia and you can see it too. If you don’t, then you’re blind and clueless.

Kev

RANT: While I’m proud team USA in the Women’s Gymnastics division won the gold, I’m disgusted they didn’t show Russia much respect…

Well, people online love to rant about the Olympics. I don’t rant about the Olympics too much ’cause I like treat most athletes in a positive direction, but this one isn’t going to be so kind. It may be a controversial post, but it needs to be said.

Usually, when an athlete gets a big win like that, they usually congratulate their losing opponent right after the game is over with, as a way to show respect and make them feel better even if they lost. Yes, the 5 women, most notably known as the Fab 5 who went against Russia and Romania last night. The Fab 5 were very impressive, yes, don’t get me wrong, but their egos were over the top. The 5 US women didn’t show any sympathy for Russia and Romania, yet they celebrated with each other for a good long 10 minutes or more. They didn’t walk over to the losing team to shake their hands or hug them or whatever.

Yes, the Fab 5 may have shook their hands at the end when they received their medals of course, but they needed to show them more respect in the beginning. Sure, the US women’s team haven’t won the gold in gymnastics in years, so you may say they deserve a good long celebration, but they were all about themselves last night.

I noticed a few of the Russian women broke out crying because of a bad performance, yet the Fab 5 were all over each other for 10 minutes, while the other teams suffered a big loss. While I’m happy that Team USA won big, I’m also disgusted at the hate and disrespect of other countries in the Olympics. I hope I’m not the only one that noticed this? What the Fab 5 did was kind of disrespectful to the other teams.

Most American’s are happy for the Fab 5, but most people didn’t catch the fact that they didn’t care about the loss that the other teams suffered. It was an incredible performance with the young women, but they must show respect to their other opponents and I didn’t see any from them last night. Sorry to say this. Just had to.

Have I been watching the London Olympics???

Yes! I have been watching it most of this weekend, and having a blast too! I just enjoy seeing talented young athletes going for the gold and chasing their dreams. My favorite games to watch the most in the Olympics are swimming and gymnastics.

I was impressed with the young Dana Vollmer who won a swimming race, and she became the first woman in history to win gold under 56 seconds. Which is pretty impressive. I’ve been impressed with Missy Franklin too. Ryan Lochte for men’s swimming has also been impressing me. I don’t like Michael Phelps. Don’t like him at all. I’m glad he’s doing terrible this year. Time for him to give someone else a chance to shine.

I was blown away with the talented young women during the Gymnastics last night. That was the best gymnastics I’ve seen in a long time and it was fun watching them. Kudos to them, they should be getting all the credit and recognition, not the overrated and boring Michael Phelps.

The London Olympics is pretty exciting this year. I love the Olympic games!

Brock defends the London Olympics opening ceremony…

I am noticing that the Olympics London Ceremony last night, is getting a lot of negative criticism. The negative criticism is mostly coming from people from the USA. So far, I haven’t seen much people from the UK, slamming the Opening Ceremony. If you think about it, you’re not going to see much people from the U.K., slamming the Ceremony, probably none at all. Why? Because it’s their home country. They would love the Ceremony, of course.

What us Americans don’t understand about the Brits, we don’t understand the U.K.’s way of thinking and we don’t understand their way of entertaining people. Last night’s Ceremony, was celebrating pop culture of the United Kingdom. It was celebrating everything from music, to movies, to books, etc. During the children’s hospital segment, that was when Mike Oldfield was on the stage, playing parts of “Tubular Bells” (which is the theme for the film, “The Exorcist”), then J.K. Rowling came on to do some reading. There were also appearances of Captain Hook and Mary Poppins.

If you watch the Ceremony again, I’m sure you can find plenty of songs that were played on there, that you didn’t even catch. Like I said before, the music being played last night, they were playing all the music from U.K. movement: The Who, Led Zep, the Jam, the Clash, Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Stones, Bowie, etc. It even went as far as playing newer British music like the Chemical Brothers and Adele. Anything in the entertainment business from the U.K., you would find in the Opening Ceremony.

Some Americans are wondering why Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) was used. Well, he is a big legend and an icon in the United Kingdom. He may not be very well known and not very liked in the U.S., but in the UK, Mr. Bean is a big megastar. The Brits, love Mr. Bean. I thought Mr. Bean, being a part of it was pretty appropriate.

I like the Brits way of entertaining people. They are unique and different than us. Watch the Ceremony again, if you have it on DVR. There’s plenty of mysterious hidden songs played throughout the Ceremony that are hard to catch. Mr. Boyle was certainly playing a “guess this song”, game with us for sure. Danny Boyle got the job ’cause he understands his country of the United Kingdom, better than anybody. The reason the Ceremony was theatrical and like a musical ’cause the United Kingdom has been widely known for theater. After the work, Danny Boyle did with “Slumdog Millionaire”, it was obvious he would be the only man to direct the Olympics Opening Ceremony.

I’m looking forward to see how Danny is going to close the Olympics. Will the Rolling Stones do their live reunion at the Closing Ceremony? Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s going to happen. Maybe Adele would perform the Closing too, who knows.

As far as the James Bond scene goes, that was alright, I guess, I just didn’t like how they used a stunt double for the Queen to jump out of the plane to arrive in Olympics stadium. They could have came up with a better idea than that, but I guess, it’s part of the UK’s humor. They have a different sense of humor than us. I think Danny Boyle is a genius, and he did a great job last night.

Kev

Brock thinks the London Olympics opening ceremony was great, except the James Bond/Queen segment was pretty stupid…

Yes, I did watch the London Olympics opening ceremony from start to finish last night. The ceremony was directed by film maker, Danny Boyle. The director of movies such as “Trainspotting”, “The Beach”, “28 Days Later”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, and “127 Hours”. Last night was a pretty theatrical show. Almost felt like a musical throughout most of it. It was celebrating the United Kingdom and the history of it, over the years.

As for the title of this topic, I hope I’m not the only one who hated the James Bond and the Queen segment. Where the Queen goes on the plane with Daniel Craig and then she jumps off with a parachute. I thought it was the lamest thing I’ve ever seen, just my opinion. This was probably the only thing I didn’t like about the ceremony.

I thought the Mr. Bean appearance was pretty funny. I’ve always been a Mr. Bean fan, used to watch the show all the time. The Mr. Bean segment was pretty cool stuff.

What impressed me the most of the ceremony wasn’t the Queen Elizabeth arrival and wasn’t the Paul McCartney performance.

I was impressed with Mike Oldfield performing during the children’s bed segment, and then J.K. Rowling doing a little reading a little later. It was pretty cool seeing Mike Oldfield, an instrumental musician who is pretty underrated. Nice to see him get recognition, and I didn’t think he was still playing music. Remember, Mike Oldfield’s essential album, “Tubular Bells”? He was the one that composed the main theme for “The Exorcist” movie. I’m pretty sure most people don’t know that and I’m sure people don’t know who Mike Oldfield is anymore. The guy is a phenomenal guitar player, and he ripping some excellent guitar chops last night. I’m sure the U.K. would know who Mike Oldfield is pretty well, but the U.S. wouldn’t know who he is anymore.

I also loved the dance segment when they were celebrating 70’s rock n’ roll music. Danny Boyle certainly knows his shit with music ’cause they were playing a lot of 70’s British rock that I was surprised of. They were playing the Who, Led Zep, David Bowie, the Clash, Sex Pistols, the Stones, the Jam, etc. All the good stuff. As for them playing Led Zep, I was surprised they picked the song, “Trampled Underfoot”, which has always been a lesser known Zep song, you think they would play “Rock and Roll or “Black Dog” or something. As for David Bowie, he was played quite a lot last night. I was especially impressed they showed small scenes from David Bowie’s film, “The Man Who Fell to Earth” (which I watched on Netflix several weeks back, and it was a really good movie).

During the 70’s/80’s British music segments, all that reminded me of the movie, “Slumdog Millionaire”. They had a little storyline going, where the girl lost her Iphone or something and the guy found it for her, so they get together to kiss at the end, then they start dancing for the rest of it, just like the movie, “Slumdog”. It’s no surprise to me that Danny Boyle was going to make a lot of that theatrical stuff pretty similar to “Slumdog Millionaire”. Because that film is kind of like a musical, and I guess that’s why the Olympics gave him the job ’cause Danny is good with that stuff.

Last night was pretty entertaining. I was also impressed that at the end of the show, that fireworks were blowing up pretty much throughout the entire city of London. That was pretty crazy.

Glad the Summer Olympics is finally here. I’ll be watching it tonight for the swimming and gymnastics ’cause they are my favorite to sports to watch through the Olympics.

Kev

Brock believes that Roger Clemens is still lying to Congress about not using steroids…

Some of you may wonder about my thoughts on this. I still believe Roger Clemens, is a flat out, ‘roid junkie. He walked out of the trial because money and power will do that. With a lot of money, and fame, you can pretty much get away with anything.

Another thing, I’m so fuckin’ tired of bodybuilders, wrestlers and movie stars with muscular physiques getting accused of using steroids. Pretty much most of your favorite sports athletes use ’em too. That goes for baseball stars, football stars, sometimes even hockey, basketball and the Olympics. How come other sports aren’t the badguys for using ’em?

That’s what so messed up about this world!

Report: Shawn Johnson, young Olympic gymnast, retires at 20 years old…

I remember watching most of the Beijing Olympics back in 2008, and I remember watching gymnastics a lot, and watching the young, and talented, Shawn Johnson. I remember being pretty impressed with her. It’s a shame that we won’t be seeing her for the Olympics in London this year. She’s retiring at 20 years old, due to a knee injury during a ski accident. Due to the knee injury getting worse and worse, she has no choice but to retire. Usually people retire from sports at an older age, not this young. So this is pretty inspiring.

I love the Olympics, will be watching it a lot this year too.

More on the story, here.
